What an incredible night! 🤩 Getting to sing the Manbattan Transfer Birdland chart with Janis Siegel conducting and Yaron Gershovsky on the keys...LEGENDARY. I am so lucky to get to sing with these people every week! ❤ Also, there is honestly nothing more fun than this song 🎉 https://www.instagram.com/p/B54FkFiHqVI/?igshid=1h3t91rpq1y8z

Musical Monday
Hello and howdy and welcome to the beginning of another week! The 2019 Tony nominations have been announced and I can’t wait to see what ends up winning all the things. With my #nyc2019 trip planned for after the Tony Awards ceremony (which airs June 9th), I will have the benefit of seeing the Best Musical winner without the usual nominated guess work. However, in 2000, there were four musicals who had the opportunity to take home the Best Musical title. As in nearly all the years, only one did. This week highlights one of the three that did not. Let’s go!
Musical Monday date: 5/6/2019
Musical: Swing!
Book, Music, and Lyrics: Music Orchestrations by Harold Wheeler, Music Arrangements by Everett Bradley, Ann Hampton Callaway, Jon C. Cowherd, Yaron Gershovsky, Ian Herman, Casey MacGill, Michael Rafter, Jonathan Smith, and Jeanine Tesori
Broadway Run: December 9, 1999 - January 14, 2001
Awards Won: 2000 Theatre World Award for Everett Bradely and Ann Hampton Callaway
Other: Swing! received a total of six Tony nominations, including a Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Laura Benanti and Ann Hampton Callaway, and Best Orchestrations for Harold Wheeler.
Fun Fact: At 461 performances, Swing! is the longest-running Best Musical loser of the 2000 Tony nominees.
Swing! has a cast recording, and it’s definitely one worthy of a listen. It’s upbeat, fun, and a jolly-good revue to experience. Next week we will wrap up our journey through the 2000 Tony-nominated Best Musicals. Until then, listen, read, and go see a show!
