I remember the first time I got Yama-arashied. I mean who wouldn't?

I was only into judo for a month and a scrawny blue belt (read: one TWO levels below black) who might not have weighed more than 65kg flipped me over in a split second.

The world turned upside down and next thing I knew I was flat on the tatami utterly confused but not hurt.

What on earth was that throw? I couldn't identify it. Then the sensei walked up and applauded the blue belt for a good yama arashi.

Such a cool name. Mountain squall or gale.

I think a more apt name would be "Instant front somersault".

My first Arashi fanfic.

Before I introduce my Arashi fanfic, I’d like to tell you about how I got into Arashi. To be honest, I am embarrassed by it, because I knew them all the way from when I was in my 7th Grade, but didn’t pay them any attention as I was into nu-metal, emo, and Japanese rock at the time. 

As the years pass, I always encounter their photos, stories, and news but was just glad to see them. Until around 2020 when their YouTube channel released videos of them telling children’s stories in kamishibai format. I became hooked as I’ve never seen a boyband do this. It was fascinating. And then when they released a music video made by the One Piece animators, I was beside myself with glee. It was a fun, well-made music video featuring the group mingling with One Piece characters. Fast forward to today, I’m reliving their memories through their silly variety shows, songs, and photos --- basically I am down the Arashi rabbit hole.  Anyway, here is the link to my fanfic. It’s still ongoing but almost done...well there’ll be a Book 2 so stay tuned.  Working title is 隠された陰影 / Hidden Shadows and the pairings are Jun Matsumoto x Kazunari Ninomiya and Satoshi Ohno x Sho Sakurai. Masaki Aiba is Nino and Sho’s best friend.

I distinctly remember back when Inuyasha chapters were still releasing, one of the fan translations gave Miroku the line "I'm out of my sticky notes of death!" and I laughed SO hard but haven't been able to find it since because I can't remember what chapter it even was. I feel like it was the Yama Arashi one but I'm not sure. They probably just fixed it.

26NOV24 I had my brother out to help in class today. I realy thought that with him helping I could get a student to pass their Nage no kata testing portion. I was mistaken. But, from failure comes learning. And I have fought and fought for them to study the material, and they have fought back against it. Working for over an hour only to fail because you just didn't do the work? That kind of thing sticks with you. Perhaps we shall see redoubled effort.

Sho supporting Ohno’s art exhibition through the years

Frist of all none of the following translations belong to me, I found them on this blog  https://denise-dinc.livejournal.com/372888.html. I will just copy some of them to have them here on my tumblr. I just like to witness such kind of mutual support between them. I can see why Ohno stayed with Arashi for 20 years before finding the right time to talk about the hiatus. These guys have always supported each others.

Sho:” When we were filming our movie, Ohno-kun showed me his works. I was surprised… they were so good. Recently he’s been reading books, they’re all art-related, this guy… he’s really an artist. Ohno-kun has been saying that he wants to have an art exhibition, I hope he gets to do it soon. I want more people to see what he’s got.”

“Is it true that Sakurai suggested to the jimusho (= office) for you to have this exhibition?”

Ohno: “Apparently so. I didn’t even know. Sho-kun has been very interested in my works since long before, taking photos of what I made and making them his phone wallpaper, things like that. So I was really happy when I heard. During that time, Sho-kun was practically the only person who saw my works.”

So I texted everyone, “the flowers aren’t here”, “this isn’t fun at all, shall I order new ones?” Matsujun: Then it was “I’ve ordered them”, “we won’t make it in time if I don’t order now, so I just went ahead and ordered” like that. Sho: I was annoyed about flowers (laugh) Aiba: I can’t imagine this. Sakurai-kun who got annoyed over flowers (laugh) Nino: But thanks to Sho-san! The flowers from the 4 of us got there in time!

As always, it's the concerts. Of course the ideas for the production as well, but he also stayed behind until late for meetings when we have gone home. Although the responsibility is not only on Matsujun, because the ones who say, "That's good," to his ideas are us after all. The output is a consensus from the five of us, so it's not like he decided everything alone. He's really amazing. I don't know how to say this so it gets through, in fact, no matter how I say it maybe it won't get through, but at any rate, I'm no match for Matsujun.
