Au Québec, ce samedi, de la place Toussaint Louverture jusqu’aux locaux du Consulat général d’Haïti à la rue Léo Pariseau, la communauté haïtienne a entrepris une marche pacifique pour demander compte sur la dilapidation des fonds du PetroCaribe. Yama Laurent, championne du concours “The Voice” du Canada de cette année, était belle et bien présente.

Ces PetroChallengeurs ont déclaré que ce n’est rien d’autre que la responsabilité patriotique qui les motivent. Ce n’est pas un intérêt politique, mais une conscience collective afin de divorcer d’avec nos routines.

Les manifestants exigeaient que la justice haïtienne fasse de la lumière et punisse les coupables. Une pareille somme ne peut être disparue sans qu’on ne puisse la retracer.

Sans accuser personne, les slogans n’ont pas changé : “kot lajan PetroCaribe a? Mare yo, mare yo, mare vòlè yo! etc.”

Banderoles, pancartes, T-shirt tous avec la question, aux États-Unis, particulièrement à New-York, les PetroChallengers ont manifesté également. Des doutes planent autour du fait que le festival Labor Day ne se convertisse pas en manifestation avec la présence du groupe Sweet Micky de l’ex-Président Michel Joseph Martelly.

À noter que cela fait déjà trois week-ends depuis que l’actualité est dominée par le PetroChallenge…

OC Review! SHSL Charity Organizer Kyo Katayama!

This is the first public review in a while, huh? I decided to drop the numbering in previous reviews, since it was kind of weird with the hiatuses this blog has had and doesn’t really line up because of all the private reviews, anyways. Luckily, we’re getting back into the swing things with a great character today...

...I’m super excited to announce the newest OC up for review, Kyo Katayama, the SHSL Charity Organizer!

Under the cut, the original form will be in plain text while my comments will be in bold.

Name: Kyo Katayama (If you’d like to provide kanji, go for it, that stuff is way beyond me!)

I’ve most often seen Kyo (as a name) written as 京, which is one of those kanji that’s usually pronounced Kyou, but has some freedom when used for names like this! It’s the same “Kyo” as “Kyoto” and “Tokyo,” and means “capital city”. It also apparently means the number “ten-quadrillion,” which… also seems pretty fitting! In terms of kanji that aren’t used for names as often (which is fine since this is Dangan Ronpa we’re talking about), some other ideas I have are 虛, which means “empty, false, or worthless” and 拒, which means “refusal.”

Katayama is a relatively common name among real-life Japanese people that I’ve only ever seen written as 片山. That first kanji (kata) means something along the lines of “single piece, flake, wisp” or “incomplete, one-sided, one part of a pair,” while that second kanji (yama) means “mountain.

...That was almost definitely excessive, but there’s some stuff if you want it!

Age: 17

SHSL Title: Charity Organizer

This is a good way to take a socialite character, especially since making a lot of money and otherwise becoming famous for doing so is a very justifiable way for HPA to notice Kyo! My one question would be if there was some other way to phrase their title--as it stands right now, it sounds a bit like Kyo organizes the charities themselves, rather than fundraising events--but that’s a small thing that doesn’t necessarily need to be changed.

Gender: Their gender is a SHSL Mystery even to themself, lmao, they/them pronouns

I think that’s relatable for a lot of folks!

Appearance: I’ve got a handful of references, but they’re all sketches, I’m afraid.

They look great! I’m really digging the asymmetric hairstyle.

Kyo is slender and tall, standing at about 5'10". They wear designer suits at all times, and attempt to achieve Super High School Level Androgyny (ha). Their favourite designer is Yves Saint Laurent, despite his death, and most of the clothes they wear are either from his collections, or collections inspired by his work.

You know, that sort of thing.

This is probably pretty straightforward, but I just want to clarify: is this because Saint Laurent was so well known for designing androgynous clothing? (Or at least, trouser and tuxedo suits for women, which was some cutting-edge androgyny in the mainstream fashion world of the 70s and 80s). You don’t go into it later, as far as I can tell--and you definitely don’t have to, since gender doesn’t have to be anything other than this is how I identify--but you might have another small dimension to Kyo if their reasoning is this rich, famous, and very well-respected man designed clothing that aligns well with my gender identity and I feel legitimized.

Background:

Kyo Katayama was born to an upper class family who were themselves born into wealth. Imagine the most entitled rich kid you’ve ever met–now imagine that as a power couple who are independently wealthy and accrue more wealth via the stock market and interest on the money they already have. Are you picturing it? The aura of “I’m better than you”? The barely concealed sneer as they talk about anything below their station? Now you’re picturing Kojiro and Kyoko Katayama.

And how you’d write their names in kanji is--

Nah, just kidding, I wouldn’t go that far! That said, this is a great introduction to Kyo’s family.

Their child, Kyo, is honestly only slightly better. And even that is only a matter of definitions.

Kyo is an only child, who was seen as the most beautiful and perfect combination of their parents’ genetics. They were put into really, really nice private schools and given all the tools they needed to succeed. At school, they found that all the opulence of being part of the upper class was boring. They could do anything they wanted and get away with it, and they knew it. It was made all too clear by their parents, and all their parents’ friends.

Kyo grew up attending dinner parties that their parents would throw, that got more and more lavish as Kyo got older. They’d invite only the uppermost of the upper crust, get together, and talk about rich people things. You know, their yachts, the economy really struggling (we only have one private jet these days! It’s really a struggle!), and how ridiculous and lazy poor people are (why can’t they just work harder??). Kyo loved the parties, and found their own version of greed.

...I really wish I had more to comment on here, but really, so far it’s looking good. These two paragraphs give a really solid summary of their early years and upbringing and show a lot of reasoning for what their future personality turns out to be!

While Kojiro and Kyoko were all about the money, Kyo was comfortable enough in their position to never even really consider money. What they coveted was more important than money ever could be. Attention. Love. Adoration. Their parents would parade them in front of the house guests, having them tell jokes and contribute to the conversation in the adorably quirky way children often do. They were fawned over by the adults, and they ate it up like nothing else.

At school, they used their newfound people skills on their peers in the same fashion. They learned to tell fascinating stories, often taken from their parents’ own collection of tales, and given their family’s love for travel, they were able to gather more and more stories to entrance people. They became very popular, a natural social butterfly.

Charisma is charisma is charisma, but acting in a way that makes adults fawn over you and acting in a way that makes all the kids your age like you can be two pretty different things (for one, they wouldn’t have the “oh, this kid is so cute and quirky!” thing going for them)--of course, it’s very possible Kyo could make themself appealing to every audience, but they wouldn’t learn all their social skills from their parents’ parties (unless their parents’ friends’ kids came, too!)

More than just telling interesting stories and being engaging to talk to, however, Kyo learned the value of favors. If they were nice to other people, other people would feel the need to repay them. The honor system bound them and their peers, and it was a system Kyo quickly learned to exploit. The trick was doing without being asked, but being quick to ask in return. If you sharpened someones pencil in the classroom for them, they owed you. If you did this without asking, they owed you even more based on your thoughtfulness. Your peer’s kneejerk reaction would be to sharpen your pencil sometime at a later date as recompense, but if you were to ask them to, say, fetch a book from the library for you (something that requires quite a bit more effort), they’d likely assent to the idea so as to have their debt paid.

That was an elementary school example, of course, but Kyo learned the lesson well and used it often.

I really like this, and how Kyo went about “using” this unwritten system of societal rules they discovered, but I have two questions about it: First, there were surely peers in Kyo’s group of peers who didn’t ascribe to this, right? Whether they were oblivious, or just didn’t believe in it--how did Kyo react to this sort of thing? Unless their group was made up entirely of high-society children with certain social etiquette completely drilled into them (which, given what you say later, actually seems pretty likely…) Second, does Kyo know about that whole phenomenon where if you ask someone for a small favor, they tend to like you more because you’re in their quote-unquote debt? That wouldn’t garner the favor they were looking for, but it would garner their affection, which seems like it might be something else they’d be interested in! Do they play that unwritten system, as well?

The most important example of this is when Kyo was about 12 years old. Their entire class had taken a field trip to the beach, supposedly to learn about marine life or something, and one of their classmates was pulled under the waves. The girl wasn’t a very strong swimmer, and surely would have drowned if Kyo hadn’t noticed and dived in after her. Kyo had the benefit of swimming lessons their entire life, and easily pulled the girl out of the water.

Get ready for a minor nitpick: why didn’t the beach have a lifeguard or other supervisor who’d be watching the kids closely, especially if they’d be in the water? I remember the (public) school I attended had about sixteen pages of permission slips and policy if we were considering going near water, so I’m a little surprised Kyo’s wouldn’t be a little more prepared, or that the beach wouldn’t have provided a supervisor if the school didn’t. It might be worth dropping in a sentence to explain the lifeguard/supervisor was already busy, or that Yui had wandered off somehow without anybody but Kyo noticing… like I said, minor nitpick, but it’s to justify something hard to believe like a twelve-year-old saving a girl from drowning!

Yui Suzuki was the exception to the rule at the private school they both attended. While the majority of the students were private jet owning rich brats, Yui’s entire family had saved up and all pitched in to let her to go a very good school in a good neighborhood because they cared about her future. She was an unassuming girl, not really unpopular but not exactly popular either, but when Kyo started giving her attention, she preened under it.

The most popular kid in school saved her life, and wanted to spend more time with her afterwards? Holy shit, dude. She was loving it.

Kyo’s intentions toward Yui were not entirely villainous, of course, they were still just a child. However, they were very aware that Yui owed them a life debt. That was the kind of thing you couldn’t repay by giving them a bit of your lunch. So Kyo started hanging around the girl, trying to decide how to use this debt to its fullest capabilities.

On the one hand, even though these intentions aren’t villainous or entirely cruel, this level of aware scheming to get something big out of Yui aren’t exactly normal for a twelve-year- old…

On the other hand, it’s not too wild for a Dangan Ronpa OC, I think.

Plus, being constantly thanked for being a literal life saver was…pretty nice for their ego.

They decided to throw a dinner party, after the fashion of their parents’, to celebrate Yui and Yui’s incredible accomplishment of not dying in the ocean.

I’m glad you included the bit about their parents, because it would have seemed just a little bit strange to just throw a party for this sort of thing.

Since it was Yui’s party, of course, they needed Yui’s opinions on everything. It was there that Kyo realized that Yui had a real mind for parties. She drew up a list of people that one would need to call to get the right kind of catering, found a dry cleaner when it turned out that Kyo’s typical place was booked and couldn’t have their suit cleaned until an entire day later, and soothed Kyo’s nervous breakdown right before the party began.

So from what I’ve read, I’m assuming Yui is from a lower or middle-class family that probably isn’t super well-connected, and presumably doesn’t have the same party “experience” Kyo has, so… why was she so good at planning? Unlike Kyo, who was trained in swimming at age twelve, it’s kind of belief-breakingly strange to think this twelve-year-old would know all the right people to call without some sort of outside help (maybe Kyo, maybe their parents, maaaaaaaaaaybe the internet, but even then, Yui would have to know where to start looking).

That said, you mentioned this was a friend’s character, so I know you don’t have a ton of control over Yui’s backstory and there’s probably a lot more detail in her own backstory where she’s the center, so I’m not going to harp on Yui too much more in this review!

That that said, I do love the little bit about her soothing their nervous breakdown at the end, both because it lets me know Kyo isn’t a constantly-performing chessmaster of a twelve-year-old, and that there is likely some genuine affection to their relationship, even if it is largely based on outside circumstances.

They made an excellent team. Kyo hosted the party, and dazzled the guests to the point that many of them forgot it was for Yui at all. Yui stayed in the background, making sure everything was running smoothly, and occasionally checked in with Kyo, at which point Kyo would call attention to them and establish how they were the best of friends and everybody who wasn’t friends with Yui was sorely missing out.

Yui got to feel useful, and appreciated. Kyo got the attention and glamor they always wanted, plus…an assistant.

They both really got the taste for throwing parties. They threw a handful more, inviting their classmates or children of Kyo’s parents’ friends, before Kyo got the idea for a charity ball. They really liked being told they were a good Samaritan and a hero for having saved Yui, but after a few months, the praise started dying down. Kyo wasn’t done with it yet, so they came up with the idea to save the world.

They threw a party with Yui’s help, just as they had always done, but this time, charged money to enter the party. Their classmates would have to pay the equivalent of $50 a plate (not that much for rich kids, but a lot for your average 12-13 year old) to enter the party, and all the money raised by the party was donated to charity. Yui and Kyo would go back and forth picking the charity they’d like to support this time, and both of them really felt like they were saving the world.

I do have some questions about this--you mention the parties being a status thing later, but were they as well-received at first? Even to parents with the money to burn, was there some backlash on the twelve-year-old who threw parties you had to pay to get into, even if they were for charity? Bear in mind this isn’t a professional organization throwing the party--this is some (admittedly charismatic) kid. Once could be seen as a cute gesture, but over the course of the first few years when they kept throwing these parties, parents might get up-in-arms over what they see as someone coercing their kid to keep paying them money to go to their parties.

There’s also the question of accountability--even if Kyo and Yui are giving all the money to charity, people are going to want proof they’re doing so, especially if they’re two pre-teens/teens who are doing it frequently. Which you never explicitly state they aren’t doing, but… it’d probably be a little more realistic if everyone wasn’t super gung-ho on the parties from the beginning, even if they are (ostensibly) for charity.

This went on for years, with Yui and Kyo becoming closer and closer and adopting more and more the boss-assistant relationship in addition to their close friendship. Others who saw them sometimes thought that Kyo was being exploitative of Yui, which wasn’t entirely wrong,

I am glad you brought this up, though, since this is something else I feel like someone would have noticed and called out.

but the two genuinely like each other. Kyo has never called on the life debt aloud, demanding help from Yui in one way or another, but Yui is aware of its presence. Meanwhile, Yui actually genuinely enjoys working as Kyo’s personal assistant, even beyond the parties. They both know that Yui is the best and that assurance keeps Yui going. It’s a matter of pride, not vanity, at this point.

The charity dinners got bigger and bigger, and they were able to raise more and more money. It became less about charity for those attending and more about status–anybody who wanted to be anybody would show up at a Kyo Katayama party, or else risk being mocked or even ostracized from their rich people friends. If you didn’t go, it was a judgement on your character. Do you not care about the whales? Or, worse, do you not have the cash to attend?

Once every six months, Kyo would throw another party of a different variety. Still a charity ball, still very high profile, but with the prices per entry lowered significantly. This was their way, they said, of letting even those who weren’t the wealthiest give back in a way that was rewarding and fun. These events were highly publicized and had an even larger attendance than the standard parties.

Honestly, given the number of times they made headlines for their charity balls and the work they were doing for the world, if they hadn’t been invited to Hope’s Peak, their parents might have sued.

These last few paragraphs are looking pretty great, though they do leave me with a few questions, mostly regarding Kyo’s plans for HPA life. Would they keep throwing the parties with their now even more well-known platform? Would they relish the attention being accepted to HPA garnered them over that that the charity balls brought them?

You also don’t mention Yui getting in, and… well, like you said later, you two are still deciding on it too! But I’d be curious as to how that would affect their relationship: would her not getting in drive a wedge there? Would her getting in affect their dynamic at all, since they’d both be at the school purely on merit rather than money? Would the casual life-debt play into their interactions in a murder game? These aren’t questions that need to be answered here, but that you can definitely think about!

Accomplishments: Kyo became well known as a humanitarian, and given the large amount of money they were able to contribute to charitable foundations, their money actually had a lot of weight. Due to their funding and presence in the press, a foundation for the preservation of black bears was founded in Kyushu and drastically reduced the number of dead bears in Japan, for one thing. They were able to make significant strides in AIDS research, in providing meals for impoverished children, in establishing centers for homeless women to live and have access to menstrual products, and many more. Despite their motivation for doing this work, they are actually benefiting the world.

Solid! No criticism for this section, though I’d be curious to know if there were any causes Kyo or Yui felt especially strong about contributing to...

Personality: Kyo is one of the only characters were I can just list a list of personality traits and go, but I’ll try to expand on them enough that you can get a solid idea of what’s up with them.

They are, all at once, dazzling, mysterious, charming, vain, hedonistic, quick to anger, never forgets their debts, giving and greedy.

Yeah, those last two do seem contradictory, but it’s really cool how you frame them and go into that… more on that in a few paragraphs!

They can wrap people up in their stories, in their electric personality, and make someone feel really special for the duration of the conversation. They don’t tell a lot about themself, giving just enough detail to encourage curiosity and theories in the people who talk to them, and delight on being asked about themself. They ask lots of questions about the people around them, not out of any genuine curiosity but out of wanting to appear as though they care. Plus, sometimes they learn valuable information about the people who attend their parties. If they find out that a senator or his daughter usually choose hard wood flooring for their summer homes, they may just use that information when throwing the next party those two will be invited to, for example.

If they can remember that information and use it thoughtfully, that also makes me think Kyo is pretty exceptionally observant--which makes sense, with a lot of the other things on their app.

The flip side of them, of course, is simply a product of their birth and raising. They’re an entitled brat, and if things don’t go their way, they need to be soothed or have a full on melt down. Fortunately, things often go their way. They want to be complimented, they want to be admired, they want everyone to be in awe of them, and they want to experience only the finest of things. Put them in a less than satisfactory situation, they’ll seethe until they cry. Their melt downs often manifest as anger rather than sadness or even basic petulance, and because of the power they’re used to wielding due to money and connections, they can be a frightening sight. They like to think of themself as a force of nature.

While this makes a lot of sense to me in some ways (especially those last few sentences, see: “affluenza” and the entitlement brought on by excessive wealth), it raises some questions about Kyo’s attitude and how others see it. Does everything in their life go so well that nobody ever sees them melt down? From what you said about their first party, it seems like they already had a problem with the dry cleaner (meltdown worthy, from what I’m reading here), and problems like that are bound to arise with other parties--not to mention that, even if they are rich beyond measure, they’re still going to face some misfortune sometimes. Has the general public not judged them on that? Are they good enough at keeping it behind closed doors--or is Yui?

One thing worth mentioning; while they absolutely do favors and expect them paid back in full with interest, they also do the same for those who have done them a good turn. They kinda hate it when people do things for them, because the feeling of being in debt makes them crazy. So they’ll do extravagant things attempting to pay back the debt, and it would be fairly easy to catch them in a loop by simply going “No, I don’t think this covers it.” They’d just keep upping the ante, doing whatever they can think of for you, until you were satisfied. They feel utterly bound by the social rules they’ve practically made for themself, and cannot escape them.

I really, really like this about Kyo--this self-made “code of honor” that they follow so relentlessly is very lawful neutral/lawful evil and a really interesting aspect of them!

The biggest contradiction on their list of traits are the last two: both giving and greedy. I feel like I covered this a bit in their backstory, but it’s worth mentioning again. They give and give and give as long as they know they’ll get something in return. They give to charity in exchange for publicity and praise. They save lives to gain servants. But they loathe giving up attention. They’re greedy about the spotlight, desperate for the love and affection of everyone around them.

Like I said above, I like what you’re going for here and how you framed it as contradictory personality traits… but even with what you said here, I’m not sure I’d call Kyo “giving.” Yeah, they’ll give and give… but only if they get something in return, or, as per their self-made code, if they got something in return. To me (and I think most commonly), someone is “giving” when they help/provide for others under no coercion or pressure (which Kyo has under their code) and when they aren’t doing it for compensation (which Kyo… is, even though it’s in the form of favors or affection rather than goods or money).

Other Hobbies or Talents: Technically this does play into their talent a bit, but they’re a math whiz. They’re excellent at bookkeeping, accounting, etc which comes in handy with the large amounts of money they have to move around. They rarely have to use a calculator, just able to do pretty significant math in their head with fairly little effort. It’s just one way they’re better than everyone else, they think.

Yeah, that makes sense! It also helps them “justify” their talent a little more, because until this point, I was wondering if Yui wouldn’t be the better choice for the “organizer.”

Besides that, they love traveling, wine tasting, eating gourmet foods from a variety of cultures, boat racing, and swimming. You know, classic rich people hobbies. They’ve thought about picking up piloting planes, but aren’t yet old enough to get certified so they’ll be looking into it later in their life no doubt.

In a despair setting, would your character kill, or be killed? Kyo is a killer, for sure. They’re the epitome of an entitled rich kid, and have you ever known an entitled rich kid who didn’t kinda come off like a serial killer? Maybe I’m only thinking of the entitled rich kids I know personally.

“If you look into his eyes, it’s like something is missing--he’s never suffered or wanted anything, so part of his personality just isn’t there…”

This was something my friend said describing a very wealthy, entitled person they knew, but I think it applies here, too! I think there is something to be said about the level of someone’s entitlement and how likely they are to murder someone under pressure, so I think you’re right about Kyo!

Still, they honestly believe their life is more valuable than those of the people around them. It wouldn’t take much to kill. Any money motives wouldn’t work on them, naturally, but I’m not really sure what other motives would work well for them. The simplest seems to just be the classic “kill to escape” one. If you have any ideas, let me know!

I’m not sure about their relationship with their parents (from what’s in the form, I’d guess it was something along the lines of “not incredibly close but pretty cordial” by the time they were accepted into HPA), but it seems like Yui might be used as leverage. Which could be potentially complicated further if they were both in HPA and they were each other’s favorite person… and so on and so on.

A money motive wouldn’t work in terms of furthering their own wealth, but under the right circumstances (extreme mental stress, probably, and the ability to reason that the person who they killed should have died), they might kill for the money with the intention of getting the praise for donating that huge sum of money to charity and maybe killing a “bad” person.

With regards to the whole “meltdowns under bad situations” thing, I feel like a lot of stress inducing motives, even comparatively mild ones like constant annoying noise, might encourage Kyo to throw a murder-themed fit.

What would happen if your character did kill? They’re a planner, practically by trade, so even if they did a spur of the moment kill, they’d likely have a plan for how to dispose of the body and evidence already ticking in the back of their head. I like the idea of them meticulously planning a murder that’s absolutely foolproof, with almost no evidence that could convict them, but then just getting so angry at someone they kill them spur of the moment, in some messy and poorly thought out way, and then the rest of it is them trying to salvage what’s left of their plan to try and get away with it. It’s hard to be both impulsive and meticulous at once, isn’t it?

I like this a lot! This definitely follows the contradictory theme that’s been pretty present throughout Kyo’s form, and could make for a very interesting murder in a game or written fangan!

They’d probably plan to poison somebody. Something that’s hard to trace, and could look like an accident. They’d use their reputation as a tool, and make it look like they were one of the body discoverers who immediately tried to resuscitate the corpse. They’re known as a life saver, after all, so why shouldn’t they try to save this life too?

Poison can be tricky, since getting some in a mutual killing game isn’t guaranteed (especially since Kyo’s talent isn’t botany/toxicology/something else that might help them make poison out of traditionally non-poisonous things) and unless it’s made-up super-poison or something, it’s difficult to kill someone quickly with small, easy-to-hide doses.

In reality, though, I could see them doing all sorts of other murders. Drowning has some poetry to it, I think, given their past with saving people from drowning. Stabbing, blunt force trauma, strangulation…you know, anything that they can do with whatever’s on hand. The bloodier the better, in my opinion, but I’d be willing to work with what I’ve got.

From what I gathered, I assumed they’d plot something almost unnecessarily complex to kill someone with the least amount of personal bloodshed/suspicion possible, but then they’d probably end up with the blunt force or strangulation with whatever available objects when they get mad, as you said above. Unless there’s some sort of body of water readily available for Kyo to drown someone in during the aforementioned fit of anger, I don’t know if they’d drown someone just for poetry’s sake (without ample reasoning from what’s already happened to them during the killing game, that is!)

From there they’d run away, clean themselves up (even a strangulation would make them all creased up and sweaty so they’d need to change that) and then run back and try to “save” the person they’d just killed. They could depend on their own high maintenance attitude to explain why they’d shower or change in the middle of the day/night, but it’d be pretty flimsy.

If your character was found guilty of a murder, what would their execution look like? I can’t decide!! If you have any suggestions I’m all ears honestly. I themed this character after the fae, but I can’t think of any really good fairy related deaths that I wanna go with. Something to do with Avalon maybe?? But it doesn’t have enough to do with Kyo, personally, which makes it a lot harder :(

Oh! I don’t know a lot about the fae so it wasn’t at the forefront of my mind while I was reading the form, but with the “everything has to be paid back” code, and such… yeah, now that you say it, I can definitely see that!

Trying to stick to the Fae thing as much as I can, my only thoughts with “Avalon” and “Kyo personally” would be the Lady of the Lake drowning them while bringing them over to Avalon, like the fairies did with King Arthur (according to some authors, I think?) Conversely, if you felt like using a longer, drawn out execution you could have a bunch of fairies save them from an easy, traditional execution like hanging or a guillotine or whatnot, then have Kyo pay back their life debt to them (willingly or not) in a way that kills them?

You could also just use the guillotine route if you wanted to focus on Kyo’s status as an especially entitled member of wealthy high society, with vague fae aesthetic if you wanted to incorporate that?

Other information: Yui is actually my friend’s character, who I helped with the making of. She might be a SHSL Personal Assistant, but I tried to keep the focus on Kyo for this. I can’t think of anything else…….I hope you like them!

Okay, then, looks like it’s time for some final thoughts!

In general, I think the form had enough focus on Kyo for my purposes, and for your own if you were planning to use them in your own work. If you were planning on using them in an RP group, I’d recommend ironing out a few more details with Yui, especially regarding her status or not as a student at HPA.

I pointed out one or two nitpicks in their backstory that stretched my suspension of disbelief a little further than I might have liked, but for the most part, it falls inside the “DR OC” level of a little ridiculous and fantastic, and that can be a little hard to do sometimes, so nice work there!

Like I said above, I didn’t notice the fae motif throughout the app because I don’t know or think a lot about fairies--but someone who does would almost certainly see it right away. From a non-fae point of view, the themes that ran through the app the most was “contradiction” and “mild deception.” Kyo throws balls ostensibly for charity, but mostly for their own sake. They present as an entirely charismatic social butterfly, but have a childish, petulant streak that’s very much a part of them. They’re greedy, but quote-unquote giving when it’s in accord with their personal code. I don’t know if these traits are especially in-line with the fae motif, but they do make an interesting character, I think!
