I did a very quick very speedrun portrait of Laika, who was and will always be a very good girl.

She did not know what was to happen to her. I am comforted to know her handlers broke protocol several times in the run-up to launch to make her more comfortable, to give her some love.

She was a stray street dog who they thought nobody would miss. She was born, lived and died well before I was born - indeed, I believe before both of my parents were born - but I truly love and miss her.

The patron saint of one-way trips and journeys from which you cannot return, indeed.

Good girl, Laika.

Sydney's team is a trollolololol team. The sort that on paper doesn't seem that bad - but get into battle and you'll realise her scrappy team has all sorts of moves that are (for want of a better word) annoying.

Think Swagger. Minimise. Double Team. Curse. Destiny Bond. Toxic. Spore. Sydney uses them all with a grin on her face matched by her long-term partner Pokémon, Mightyena.

When she's not battling or training her team, Sydney can be found helping Nurse Joy to rehabilitate abandoned and injured Pokémon.

I have been using a random number generator to give me a number between 1 and 1042, & whatever number it gives me I have to try to draw that Pokémon. However! The point is to practise drawing things as basic shapes FIRST instead of trying to make it perfect immediately.

Here is what I have done thus far:

I asked the little RNG Elf to generate me some numbers between 1 & 151, & I would draw whatever Kanto Dex 'mon came up... roughly. For fun. It is fun.

Okay - if we ignore the atrocious anatomy, dubious pose that makes it look like she's one of those Twister lollies, those blocky Minecraft travesties for hands AND the poorly drawn babbies first furry dot com, we can post - Punk Sydney and her Mightyena!

For some reason I envisage the Mightyena using Swagger. Dunno why. Just see it as a very Sydney thing to do.

You've heard of WIP Wednesdays, now get ready for Spooky Season Sideas Sundays.

I wanna do more Pokémon paintings or drawings (haven't decided yet) of various Pokémon enjoying 'spooky season' activities. Pumpkaboo is at a pumpkin patch in a wheelbarrow - maaaaaybe. Two Gengars are enjoying some toasted marshmallows by a campfire.

Maybe I will have to have another 'mon enjoying a PSL? Or wearing uggs, beret and comically oversized scarf combo. Hmm.

Mightyena travel and act as a pack in the wild. The memory of its life in the wild compels the Pokémon to obey only those trainers that it recognizes to possess superior skill.

I wanted to grab my colouring pencils for the first time since we had to do a still life study of a cabbage for art class last term. After completing the initial sketch in a coffee shop, I coloured everything in at home.

In other odd news, I went to my very first life-drawing class with some friends from my art class this week.

Picture this: me, young & innocent virginal Yado in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter. Parked opposite the Gurdwara (Sikh Temple). Going into a nice pub with dogs. To do life drawing.

The male model kinda made me think of Dallas, if Dallas were in his 60s, hairier, chubbier & covered in tattoos.

15 min

30 min. I only drew one (1) of his tattoos, & I drew it purely in straight lines because the teacher said we had 1 minute left 🤡 But he was fairly covered.

My teacher suggested 3, I decided 3 for myself. Sharing here for posterity.

Tonight, my art class is gonna have us mount 3-4 pieces of our art we've produced during the course ready for the exhibition, which is /next/ Tuesday.

Ngl, my mental health right now is in such dire straits that I look at everything I make & think it sucks.

Not only that but... no one is available to actually go to the exhibition with me. So... kinda questioning the point tbh 🌝
