is it just me or has homophobia become so normalized in fandom lately under the veneer of "yaoi bad" like... some people are queer. i am queer. characters can be queer/read as queer. its actually so crazy to be harassing queer people and calling us fetishists for wanting/talking about queer content..? i thought we left that in like... 2007. lol.

just as people have done entirely too much in the opposite direction by trying to rehabilitate john as Not Abusive, Actually (entirely as pushback to trashy whumpfic which wouldn't have good characterisation as a priority anyway), this is true also for John Winchester Understanding LGBT Ally takes. yes he wouldn't be throwing around slurs 24/7 like an over the top cartoon homophobe. no i dont think he'd magically transcend the social context of his time and hold zero prejudiced views around queerness, particularly gender nonconformity.

all i can think about is how if youre mean to strangers on the internet. that means the youre mean. if people have to earn their humanity for you not to be mean to them, youre a mean person. if anonymity makes you feel empowered to be mean, youre a mean person. i dont care how right you feel about any given topic. why are you being mean about it. who taught you to be mean? why do you think being mean is okay? i dont get it why you choose to do that. why do you feel the need to be mean?
