#julian dae #loosely based on yu-jin lee's sculpture in her 2008 transforming flesh series. which i can only find one source on sadly #most of this sculpture i see attributed to her via youjin lee which is. similar but not the same name #and all those sites are after the original in 2008 so im assuming that one is more accurate #and i cant find any pictures of the other sculpture in the series tho i CAN find pictures of another series in 2012 #that she used this sculpture in again #anyhow. also it's not even the same bcause i thought the sculpture's spines were mushrooms at first when i saw it #they were not. but it gave me un idea so. this guy again #also the colors look really different on my laptop vs my ipad when i drew it. and now im thinking what if all my colors always look wrong #hell on earth. what do you mean they look different. is my ipad right or is my laptop right. i hate u #like the pink and orange totally look the same on my laptop and the blue isn't nearly as purple as it should be #i hate it here...#OC art #ocs

I have actually had this in my queue for quite some time, and originally queued just for the strange loveliness aesthetic value and the fast that I enjoy monster-narrative motifs. But as I was scrolling around today I realized with a little internal *oh. Oh NO.* that it actually also bears a very strong resemblance to a self-hating daydream scenario I once explored in a short story, essentially having church friends recognize I was warped and Wrong inside and bring me to God/the King to get purged. And in that scenario my inner monster took the form of a spiky dragon who tore out from my back on command and left the "Real" me to get healed.

I had a sudden vivid recognition looking at this just now that my poor past self was probably writing out both internalized homophobia and feeling like mental health issues made her socially unacceptable. But...

The spikes aren't my color, but they are still mine, and part of me, and beautiful. My inner dragon aspect was something I can validly live with all along. And my socially-acceptable body is plain marble,but my inner dragon is capable of such beauty, when she shows through it can be gold.
