Locha was euthanized on November 7, 2022.

I came home between shifts to have some sleep, give pills to Locha and feed them. Tumor was bleeding. Nothing new at this point, a bit worrisome but it should have stopped in an hour or so. It did before. The thing that scared me that morning was that he couldn’t eat. He wanted to, he tried, but he just licked a bit above the food. Like a grown woman I am, I decided to have some sleep. Maybe it was a fluke and he’d be better in the evening, the blood would stop, he'd eat something and everything would be fine. It wasn’t. Locha slept on my pillow. Blood drops were all over my sweet shot. And pillow. And couch. Tumor never stopped bleeding. Locha asked for food and couldn’t eat just like in the morning. Honestly I just started crying. I wasn’t getting the idea in my head fully yet, but subconsciously I knew. Syringe feeding and bags was a no go. Locha would only stress out from it. That was it. Time to let him go. I was crying all the way to the vet, while we spoke, while they said that yes, it’s time.

I should have written it sooner, I just couldn’t. I’m almost fine when I don’t think about it. Almost is a key word here.

My apartment feels empty. I have had at the very least four cats since I was eleven. Or more. Never less. At some point around 2016 I had nine cats. I was “that girl with seven cats” when I was at high school, at college, when I dropped out in my second year and started working. Now I have my two girls and dry blood drops all over the apartment (I dealt with blood drops on the floor and most of the walls. but how do you clean books from it? )

I realize that the reasonable thing is just… Live on. It’s not like my paycheck is big enough for more pets if we are adults here. I need to take care of them and live with just the two of them. But the thought is driving me up the walls. All I can think about is that I need to take someone. I was browsing adoption sites the other night. Crazy.

Anyway I’m slowly going back to normal. I just need some emergency-free period to get myself back together and to remember that there is still joy and happiness in life.

Is Imlie in love with Aryan? No.

Is Aryan in love with Imlie? Possibly, yes.

Love comes in numerous shapes and forms so I guess I can argue that Imlie, where she stands now, loves Aryan too but this is not the romantic wala love which I assume you are asking about. Aryan's love for Imlie is definitely somewhere within the romantic territory.

Currently where they both stand the only mutual feeling shared between them is that of need; these two just need the other person to stay with them. Not in a dysfunctional co-dependent sense. But more on the lines of companionship. "It makes sense that this person remains around me. And I fight against any power that wishes to take this person away from me."

It is from this companionship that love, the romantic wala love because from Aryan's side at least there is a spark of attraction but none from Imlie's side so far, will grow. Hello hi everyone,

New week - new liveblogs! My stance on IB and my actual hook to IB is their interpersonal relationships. Especially of the Obros and Annika Saahil. What I am not into is Annika Shivaay (I love some of their scenes much later when they’re just wholesome beans). It’s really a small moment at the end but I’m afraid it won't be pleasant to watch. Still, I love Dadi and Jhanvi SO MUCH. 

Also - I love Omkara so far. His journey is very nuanced.

Hmm, I have incredibly mixed feelings about this. It’s obviously a highly sexualized moment - with the dark lighting, pool, both of them wet, intense staring and so on. What Shivaay does to her here, is exactly what Arnav did when he threw Khushi off a floor. Highly inappropriate things to do. @katrinadevoort literally like I joke abt it and all but I genuinely love it and there’s so much that can be talked about if you also take the context of its production into account alongside the actual film thats why I never shut up about it and I totally get what u mean abt not being able to rate it. Regarding what u said tho, in the book Shepperton Babylon (which dedicates pretty much an entire chapter to the singer not the song) it notes that the novel it was based on featured a much more prominent role for locha (Mylene demongeot) but the screenwriter didnt find her arc that compelling, believing the relationship between anacleto and the priest to be much more interesting and worthy of exploration, and drastically reduced her role which is why the film kind of feels disjointed when it comes to her. It’s just the hesitancy of the conservative studio (j Arthur rank and other higher ups whose names I forget were notoriously strict) + Roy ward baker (who suggested buñuel to direct actually, but was contractually forced to do this movie against his will and pretty much disowned it) to really delve into this that holds the film back.

Peter could feel his heart in his throat when you suddenly leaned up and placed a quick kiss on his cheek. His face was covered in red in a matter of seconds.

He didn’t mind you doing that. He was just… confused. Confused about your sweet gestures towards him. Did you see him just as a friend, or were the feelings mutual?

He couldn’t stop thinking about you when in class, or during a patrol, you wouldn’t even leave him alone in his dreams.

It had been three weeks, three whole weeks since you moved to Queens and met Peter. He was your first— and only— friend on campus. He was the one who showed you around campus and introduced you to your classrooms. He even helped you with Chemistry.

“I got 96%.” You smiled proudly. You had aced your Chemistry test and now you were planning on celebrating it with Peter. You held up the resulting paper in your hand dramatically, “I would like to dedicate this to my smart and handsome friend, Mr. Peter Parker.”

My top ten Hindi films on Netflix

If you’ve never seen a Hindi film, you’re missing out. Action, romance, comedy, and drama: you can often find them ALL in one of these three-hour films. (OK, not all Hindi films are three hours, but they tend to skew longer than American films, especially the older ones.) If the constant genre-changing doesn’t hold your attention, maybe the singing, dancing, bright costumes and incredible cinematography will. If you’re not sure where to start, check out my recommendations below. Most of these feature strong female characters or have a feminist bent. Here are a few Hindi words to listen for while you’ve got the subtitles on.

pyaar – love, dost – friend, dushman – enemy, zindagi – life

1.) Dangal (2016) – Feminist sports movie, based on a true story. Lead actor and producer Aamir Khan plays Mahavir Phogat, the father of Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari, two girls from a small town in Haryana who aspire to become professional wrestlers, though the state lacks both structural and social support for female athletes. Their father was a professional wrestler who dreamed of winning Olympic gold for India, and failing that, aspired to have a son that could fulfill his ambitions. But he didn’t have a son. He had one daughter, and then another, and then another, and then another. One day, after the girls get in trouble for beating up some boys in the neighborhood that were bullying them, Dad realizes he may not need a son to have Olympic gold winners in the family. Aamir got most of the praise when this film came out, but all the actresses who played his daughters (Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Zaira Wasim, and Suhani Bhatnagar) trained super hard for this film, and it shows 100% on screen. Best song: Dangal.

2.) Queen (2014) – Feminist coming-of-age travel film. This film is about a small-town girl that gets dumped on the eve of her wedding and decides to take her honeymoon to Europe alone, even though she’s never been out of India. Along the way, she makes friends with a diverse group of other travelers, sheds some of her more conservative views, and learns to embrace life fearlessly. Best song: Hungama. Second best song: London Thumakda.

3.) PK (2014) – This film was controversial when it came out because it pokes fun at religion, but it’s ultimately about we shouldn’t allow religious differences to divide us. Aamir Khan plays an alien that pays Earth a visit to try and understand human society. Unfortunately for him, there are a lot of rules he has to learn to pass as one of us (even though he looks human). Fortunately for us, that learning process includes a number of hilarious mishaps. Best song: Tharki Chokro.

4.) Dil Dhadkne Do (2015) – Family drama (but not without comedy, action, and romance) starring Priyanka Chopra (who you may recognize from Quantico or Baywatch). The parents in a family of business moguls decide to celebrate their anniversary by taking a ten-day cruise with some of their best frenemies. What could possibly go wrong? Best song: Girls Like to Swing. Second best song: Gallan Goodiyaan.

5.) 2 States (2014) – One of my favorite romantic Hindi films, this rom-com becomes a family drama when college sweethearts Krish and Ananya have to convince their parents to accept their partners. Krish is Punjabi (North Indian) and Ananya is Tamil (South Indian) and their cultures are very different. Will the parents be able to overcome their prejudices around class, color, and culture to accept their children’s partners? Best song: Iski Uski. Second best song: Locha E Ulfat.

6.) Little Things (2016) – This is a series, not a TV show, but I wanted to include it because I love it so much. It’s a super cute portrayal of a relationship between affluent twenty-somethings living in Mumbai. She’s very career-driven and he’s a little less clear on what his goals are, which contributes to some of the relationship conflicts in season one.

7.) Raees – This is a pretty straightforward gangster movie. A boy with strong values but few career options starts making money the best way he knows how: bootlegging liquor in a dry state. He eventually gets rich and powerful enough to scare even cops and politicians, but ultimately gets in over his head. Raju Ban Gaya podcast described this as a rip-off of Narcos, but I feel that’s a little unfair. They also praised the film’s portrayal of a Muslim protagonist. This movie features a fight scene in a butcher’s market, which, if you’re vegetarian like me, you may find a little hard to stomach. Also, some people get murdered. Best song: Laila Main Laila.

8.) Kahaani (2017) – The feminist thriller/murder mystery you didn’t know you needed. Vidya is living in London and very pregnant when her husband, who has traveled to Kolkata for work, goes missing. She travels to India to find him, but the local authorities, who assume he bounced because he couldn’t handle the prospect of fatherhood, are no help. Anyone that tries to help her mysteriously turns up dead. Can she find the killer before he finds her?

9.) Om Shanti Om (2007) – I included this because it’s a classic, and it’s got a lot of the wackiness I think Americans expect from Hindi films. It’s chockfull of references to other Hindi films, so the more you’ve seen, the more you can appreciate it. However, you don’t need to be a Bollywood buff to be able to enjoy this story about reincarnation and karmic comeuppance. It’s also a good introduction to Shah Rukh Khan, one of Hindi films’ leading men, and one of the world’s highest-paid actors. Best song: Deewangi Deewangi.

10.) Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga (2019) – This is the first mainstream Bollywood with a lesbian protagonist. (The independent Hindi film Fire portrayed a lesbian relationship in 1996 and it did not go so well.) Ek Ladki starts out as a rom-com and then becomes a family drama. The plot gets a little convoluted between the second and third act, but the chemistry between 90s heartthrobs Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla is a joy to watch. Fun fact: Anil, who plays the protagonists’ father in the film, is the father of lead actress Sonam Kapoor in real life.

These are all on Netflix right now. Not sure how many will be taken down next month.

I haven't been here a lot lately — and won’t be for some time — because the last couple of years were… Hard.

You know what’s bad about having close aged pets? They are getting old. And they die. And you have very little time to cope.

Tiger died in the middle of September. He lived with me longer than my parents. I’ve never had favorites. I love all my cats. But Tiger was special. He loved hugs. He slept on my pillow, on my neck, on my head, under the duvet. He was the cuddliest cat ever. Tactile, kind, he loved people and people loved him.

His passing was devastating, cause we at first went to a not so good vet. They misdiagnosed him. They insisted on prolonging treatment which wasn’t working. I felt like I was torturing him. He was in pain and I was giving him pills from which he was only more uncomfortable. So I found another clinic where we got an accurate diagnoses. It was bad. I heard the confirmation: Tiger was suffering for nothing. There was nothing that could be done at this point. Euthanasia was a humane choice.

I thought I had some time to grieve before the next loss. But nope. Couple days later I noticed a lump on Locha’s jaw. And just like that all hopes are gone. Locha is 18,5 too. They were born in February 2004. Locha is the last one still alive. Last piece of my childhood family. I don’t know how to live without them. It just feels so damn wrong. Locha is a special snowflake. He was skittish for the most of his life. Like yeah, human, you can try to pet me, but don’t you think I would sit on your lap. No-ope. You must prove yourself worthy of the honor of petting. When he climbed on my lap for the first time I was so shocked and happy that I cried. Just a little, but cried anyway. And it wasn’t so long ago. Three or four years.

So after finding a lump we went to the vet. They sent us to an oncologist. I was afraid that we may end up with money hunting again. I feared an oncologist would insist on an operation and biopsy (which is pricey and pointless in our situation). Thanks fuck that wasn’t the case! Oncologist was quite understanding. She pointed out that at his age removal of the lower jaw wasn’t reasonable. (It’s rather questionable at a younger age too imo. You can’t make your cat understand WHY they lost such an important part of their body.) And hence no removal you don’t really need to put him through biopsy. We decided to go with supportive therapy. He’s eating on his own, he’s drinking. He wants his petting sessions. He is still his grumpy old self. Thinner than he was, but not that bad yet.

Only this damn tumor is growing too freaking quickly. He can’t eat solid food now. Only muss. And it’s getting much more complicated with pills. If the pill brushes the inner part of the tumor it starts to bleed. And yep. I have photos and it looks rather creepy if you ask me.

I have no idea how long he’ll survive like this. It’s not something anyone can predict or guarantee. I just know that he has less than a year. Maybe even less than a month. And there is nothing more I can do. Only to let him go when the time comes.

So… I’m a mess. I am tired. I lost two of my cats in 2019, I lost my dog in 2020, Tiger and Tiny got ill in 2021, I lost Tiger in September. And I’ll soon lose Locha. Next year, if we are lucky but soon nevertheless. It’s inevitable. And I’m just falling to pieces. This is too much.

(Cherry on the top — i got into fight with both mom and dad and they told me that I'm no longer a daughter to them. And told to go fuck myself, so yeah. Healthy family.)

I’ll return when I’ll feel more like a human than a pile of shit.
