A cover of The Seeming and the Meaning by Stereolab.
youtube
Spent some time over the past couple days doing a full accurate cover of the kind of song I’d like to write, as an exercise in finishing something, and was able to learn and practice a bunch in the process, including some actual actionable information about “mastering,” which is a thing the music production influencers seem to either make sound like a dark art or alternatively tell you is learnable if you just take their upcoming $400 class, be sure to like and subscribe.
Not that there’s any hiring wrong with that! Related, not that you can tell from my mostly unfinished lead vocals here, but I had my second (in person) voice lesson this week, and again, a little trick called “breathing” seems to be one of the key tactics to master.
My homework is Fly Me To The Moon. Maybe I’ll do something with it.
I think a question I’ll need to research soon is what a real “let’s record some vocals” workflow is supposed to look like. Recording a whole bunch of takes to a loop, I think, is a thing I should be doing? And maybe something called comping?
But I know I should be warming up, breathing, and choosing keys that fit my range, which should be especially easy when I’m the one writing the dang songs.

The Modern World
Welcome to the Modern World.
Tumblr media
A new album have been released on Asbestos Digit.
"The Modern World" is a song collection representing the hypothetical scenario of entrapment in a permanent fog where every perspective vanishes as a consequence of the atavistic human instinct towards extinction which eludes any possibility of a better future. A caustic hypothesis, but also close to reality; a stream of consciousness on today's dystopias fought by the saving force of music.
"In the first album that Fabio Battistetti publishes in the Asbestos Digit roster, a thousand suggestions take over from the first listen: the Wergo-style computer music of the Eighties, a hardcore version of the chiptune music that was all the rage in videogames thirty years ago, the cold restlessness of certain hypnagogic electronics and the anxiety of bewilderment that anthropocene man pretends not to feel. A necessary wide-eyed electronic hallucination". - Andrea Prevignano (nov. 2023) The songs were composed through improvisation sessions by Fabio Battistetti between 2021 and 2022.
Fabio Battistetti: Teenage Engineering PO12, Rolard Tr6s, Ableton Live, Korg Kaosilator, Yamaha Reface YC Home recorded, mixed and mastered in San Giovanni Ilarione (Verona), january 2021 to november 2022

Three new random facts about yourself ?
- Within 24 hours after stating that I was so bored I could imagine joining a cult, I found myself at a satanic doowop concert.
- I appear to be a completely different person depending on whether I wear eyebrow make up or not.
- I have never learned how to play an instrument before but I have decided to soon start saving for a Yamaha Reface YC.

First post! Hello. So the bottom keyboard with the yellowed keys is an old Akai MPK 61. Up top is a Yamaha Reface YC - a cute little mini organ thing. You can hook them both up over MIDI and use the big Akai keys to play the little Yamaha sounds. All good fun. I only need about half the knobs and keys though, and it all looks a bit ugly. Time to strip out the parts I don’t need, and bosh everything into a custom case.
