Eddie Diaz is cautious when it comes to dating, if it's not for him then it's definitely for his son Christopher- the literal sunshine in his life, he hasn't been a very good father in the past but he's trying to do right by him now. Which is why he's trying to make sure that everything is perfect for the first time that you are going to be meeting Chris. This is a huge step for him really, it took him months to admit to his own son that he had been seeing Shannon- Christopher's mother again after she had left them back in El Paso.

But..thing's didn't work out and Shannon had died, it had been an accident but it took it's toll on him nonetheless he had sworn off dating completely until Buck had offered to set him up on a blind date. To say he was hesitant to begin dating again was an understatement, the understatement of the year really- yet here he is nearly two years later in a relationship yet again with someone who understands and is willing to wait for him. Eddie was working with a therapist now by your suggestion and he was starting to feel as though he could be more vulnerable and open with you, being more open meant sharing more of his life with you and that meant finally introducing you to Christopher.

Through dating Eddie you've gotten him to be more open, it's shocking- really, to see what a huge difference a few months could make on a person, once reserved and distant he's now talkative and bubbly, more alive than when he was just going through the day to day motions after his ex-wife had died. But that isn't to say that he still isn't careful about who he lets into his life, it had taken him a very long time to even begin warming up to you but you didn't mind.

You were patient and willing to wait for him to come to you when he wanted to share something, you've learned quite a lot during this time: you know that he's served in the military as a combat medic, you know that he wears a St.Christopher medallion that he never or rarely takes off to remind him to always fight to get back to his family, you know that he has a son with cerebral palsy that he loves more than life itself, and you know that he doesn't have a good relationship with his parents anymore. Apparently after Shannon's death they came to visit for the funeral to be there for Eddie...when in reality they were there to attempt to guilt him into giving up his paternal rights to Christopher, they believed that he couldn't provide a stable life for Christopher- that they could give him more than Eddie could.

When he first told you this you had tried to rationalize it but the longer you thought about it the more absurd it became, why did they think that Christopher would be better off with them and not Eddie? What could they have provided for him the he couldn't? What did El Paso have that Los Angeles didn't? Did they really feel like it was okay to just uproot him whenever they felt like to fit their narrative of treating him better?

Ultimately you had told Eddie that you felt he had made the right choice, it was better for Christopher to stay with someone he knew, that was when he had decided to let you meet his son. Tonight was the night, you were going to meet Chris and that would decide the fate of your relationship with Eddie, he wanted you in his life but Christopher would always come first in his eyes.

To say that it had gone amazing was an understatement, you and Christopher had gotten along so well, you were kind to him and even took the initiative in explaining that the two of you had been dating for awhile but hadn't wanted to rush into anything with him just in case things didn't work out, he wasn't upset in the slightest- in fact he was actually glad that you had been able to get his dad out of the slump he was in. Now the three of you are slumped on the couch watching a movie together, Christopher is slowly but surely dozing off between you and him- you're trying to stay awake as well but the allure of sleep is beginning to win you over- Eddie gets up for just a moment to retrieve a blanket but upon returning you and Chris are both fast asleep on the couch. It's such a fine and natural sight that Eddie knows for certain that he's made the right choice of waiting for the right person to be apart of his life.
