Xena really is the best show. Nowhere in the history of television can you experience an episode filled with the complexities of a character dealing with the overwhelming grief of losing her lover and sacrificing a chance to find closure in order to help those she hurt in the past... while also witnessing a bunch of people doing drugs, an intensely filmed staring contest, and a poorly done job of a woman's head photoshopped onto a spider's body. Perfection

So XWP is a lesbian icon but that's not why it's here. My pride postings for this month are for canon lgbtq+ characters/shows and even though the subtext tied text up and did kinky things with it on this show, the romantic queer relationships are (arguably) not text.

No, this show gets an exception because it's the show that made me one of the biggest cliches in the world when I watched it and realized, oh, hey, I'm bi! So that's what's been going on for 25 years. So the characters non-heterosexuality might not be canon, but thanks to this show, mine is.

How I feel about this character:  he's my right hand arm man, my everything, my confidant, my best friend, my silly rabbit... no but actually. he's my first true blorbo and i will always be soft for the idiot. god knows i love a fool!

All the people I ship romantically with this character:  ares is number one but i've been known to dabble in autolycus, strife, gabrielle and even xena. all aboard the multiship please!

My unpopular opinion about this character:  apparently that he's attractive enough to want to ship him with someone, lol. last time i put together a gifset of the men of xena his presence was, shall we say, questioned a bit

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: that he and ares shared even a tenth of a second of screentime. talk about ships made up of whole cloth and wishful thinking...

Honestly, when I think about it I've almost never had a crush on a fictional character, it's always two characters whose dynamic I'm obsessed with and people would assume I had a crush or whatever and half the time Id go along with the idea when I was with friends or whoever because that's what they would be feeling but I myself never like. Put myself into the scenario, it's distinctly just a love of a character dynamic.

you don't need to hate on a female character for doing something seemingly foolish or cruel but you also don't always need to try to justify it, sometimes you can just say "Oh she acted this way because the writers sucked"

but sometimes her actions are perfectly justifiable and you're just bad at sympathizing with her or giving her the benefit of the doubt
