Complete checklist to buy a second hand car
However, there are lots of things, you need to check, like the condition of the engine, body parts, and registration of the vehicle before buying. Skipping a single thing may put you in trouble later while using the car.
Selecting the right car
While buying a second hand vehicle, it is very easy to get attracted by some other options. For example, if you are visiting a showroom to look for a second hand car, you see a six year old Honda Civic for Rupee 8 lakh. Then you see a five year old Toyota Fortuner standing beside at the cost of rupee 10 lakh.
Chances are there that you convince yourself to buy Toyota Fortuner by spending rupee 2 lakh extra that is only five years old. You will get a premium luxury XUV car for rupee 10 lakh, but the cost of maintaining it is far more than Honda Civic. Therefore, it is necessary to make the right choice and consider the maintenance costs while looking for a pre-owned vehicle.
Inspect the condition of the car
The first essential thing to check in a used car is to check the condition of the vehicle. Don’t get confused by the cleanliness and shine of the vehicle as dealers polish them to shine and attract customer’s attention. Try to do test drive and while driving must check the sound of engine and electric component.
Also, check the clutch, mileage, gear, and acceleration of the car to see the working of these essential components. It is best if you bring a mechanic with you to check the condition of the purani car. Such tests will help you to determine if the car is maintained as well as the claims of the seller.
Documents of the vehicle
Is the seller, car’s actual owner? Is this going to be resold for the first time or second time? Check the Serial Number on the RC which shows how many times the car has been sold till now. Also check whether the recent owner paid all the taxes, including taxes on the road?
Ensure that the seller provides you with other documents to be checked like the initial invoice, the car loan provider’s NOC, and the receipt of road tax. Reviewing these documents can help you to verify the ownership history and authenticity of the used vehicle.
Check the insurance
Driving a car without insurance is a crime in many countries. You should check the insurance history before buy second hand car and also check the latest insurance date of validation and if it expired then you should not buy it. By insurance you can check the all history of the second hand cars whether it is an accident free of not. And at the time of document transfer, you need to transfer the insurance as well.
Service and maintenance data
Every car needs service and maintenance at regular period of time as recommended by the manufacturer. Also check the service record by which you can know the condition of the cars for sale if the car has been not serviced at regular interval may not perform well in coming days.
Suppose you are staying in Bhubaneswar and the condition of the roads are not good enough and you are searching second hand cars in Bhubaneswar which has not been serviced at regular interval then maybe you be in problem after buy your dizere car.
Conclusion words
These are the things to check while buy old car. No matters you are buying it from anywhere for example, offline dealers or online platforms like Cifiyah. But these things will help you to get a right car for second hand because second hand car price is not less so we have to take care of it.

Mahindra XUV300 launches in SA
Mahindra has entered the next phase of its evolution with the launch of the bold and dynamic Mahindra XUV300.
Built on the group’s global X100 platform, the XUV300 (pronounced XUV three double O) carries its larger sibling’s cheetah-inspired design language into a new generation of vehicles. At the same time, it introduces a new range of engines and a nearly unmatched level of specification to the local compact SUV segment.
“At Mahindra, our driving purpose is ‘Rise’, which we interpret as the way we challenge conventional thinking and innovatively use all our resources to drive positive change in the lives of our stakeholders and communities across the world.
“The XUV300 is the latest product of that philosophy and combines fresh thinking and our best engineering and design talent. We are very excited to see how our new compact SUV will not only wow customers in our second home – South Africa – but will allow them to Rise!” says Mr Arvind Mathew – Chief of International Operations Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.
South Africa is the first international market outside of India to launch the XUV300, which lands here with both petrol and diesel drivetrains and the choice of a W6 or W8 trim level.
“The XUV300 was launched in India in February 2019 and has already generated over 26 000 bookings in this hotly contested market, which is roughly equal to the total size of the compact SUV market in South Africa.
“The success of XUV300 can be attributed to its combination of style, dynamic driving performance and a high specification level. If the local interest in this new model is anything to go by, it will soon become one of Mahindra South Africa’s top-selling models as well,” says Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra South Africa, adding that the compact SUV market in South Africa represents more than 25 000 units sales every year.
“South Africans love the combination of a high-driving position, bold styling and functionality that SUVs offer and the XUV300 offers this in a bold and dynamic package with a list of features and specifications that are not offered as standard on many vehicles in this segment.” says Mr Gupta.
The XUV300 will attract new customers into Mahindra dealerships as the brand begins its work of becoming a household name in the South African market. With their local investment, strong dealer network and versatile product range, there is even more reason for the local market to start seeing Mahindra as a true South African contender.
“We at Mahindra had an exciting FY19 with the inauguration of our assembly plant, a number of product updates and 30% growth in a declining market. All this has helped us to emerge as the second fastest growing OEM in South Africa. We are confident that in this fiscal year, starting with the launch of the new Bold and Dynamic XUV300 and few more offerings during the year, we shall continue our growth momentum” says Mr Avinash Bapat, Chief Financial Officer of Mahindra South Africa.
Head-turning design
With its dual LED-strip daytime running lights (DRLs), aggressive grille, wide LED taillights and diamond cut alloy wheels, the new XUV300 stands apart from other compact SUVs in the market.
Like the XUV500, the XUV300 is inspired by the aggressive dynamism of a cheetah. This is perhaps most visible in the tear-duct style DRLs on certain models, which flank the bold grille and trapezoidal lower air intake.
The cheetah styling cues are further visible in the XUV300’s squat stance, which is accentuated its 2.6-metre wheelbase in a body that is just short of 4 metres. This stance is further enhanced by wide and bold wheel arches and large wheels on the furthest corners of the vehicle.
Mahindra’s design team also added a floating roof (colour coded roof on darkened side pillars), as well as side cladding and a wide rear-quarter hip line that flows into unique LED taillights, a roof-mounted spoiler and high-mounted stop lamp.
Like all Mahindra SUVs, the new XUV300 has elements of the group’s signature design language that includes full volumes, sculpted sections and muscled surfaces. It also has the distinctive Mahindra billet grille with chrome highlights on the highest specification level.
On the W8 model, the design is accentuated by LED indicators in the heated and folding side mirrors, dual tone roof rails, 17″ wheels and silver front- and rear skid plates.
New generation engines
A brand-new model range deserves brand new engines and Mahindra has launched two new engines with the XUV300, offering buyers the choice of either a turbo-petrol or turbo-diesel engine.
The first is a new three-cylinder 1.2 litre turbo-petrol engine, which delivers 81 kW at 5 000 r/min and a healthy 200 Nm of torque between 2 000 r/min and 3 500 r/min.
The second engine option is a brand-new four-cylinder 1.5 litre turbo-diesel engine that delivers 85.8 kW at 3 750 r/min and 300 Nm in a flat band between 1 500 r/min and 2 500 r/min.
“Both the 1.2 litre petrol and 1.5 litre turbo-diesel engine have been subjected to extensive stress-testing at Gerotek in Gauteng and we are confident that they will not only offer exceptional durability, but also deliver the type of acceleration and high-speed cruising power that South African drivers enjoy,” says Gupta.
All versions of the XUV300 are equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox, which transfers power from the engine to the front driving wheels.
Designed around the driver
In the interior of the new XUV300, Mahindra’s designers have crafted the vehicle controls around the driver and have added a thick-rimmed steering wheel with steering controls, a large tachometer and speedometer and a 17.78cm full colour connected infotainment system on all models.
The infotainment system offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration on the W8 and has in-built turn-by-turn navigation with regional maps as standard across the range. The system also allows the driver to pre-set many of the vehicle functions, including the background display and, on the W8, the colour of the LED backlit instrument panel.
The XUV300’s infotainment system also features Mahindra’s Bluesense app. This app tracks the driver’s driving patterns and scores them on a set of environmentally friendly metrics. The driver can access this information and information on past trips from their phone’s connected Bluesense app or smart watch.
In addition to the infotainment system, all Mahindra XUV300 models are equipped with the new Smart Steering system. Controlled with a button below the infotainment system, the Smart Steering system allows the driver to change the steering feel between Comfort mode, which allows you to negotiate urban traffic with ease, a Normal everyday mode and Sport, with the latter offering a weightier and more responsive steering feel for a more thrilling drive experience.
Abundant Luxury
The new XUV300 is available with two trim levels, both of which offer a level of standard equipment and safety features, including the 17.78cm infotainment system, with an auxiliary port and USB connectivity.
The W6 trim level offers the most affordable entry into the XUV300 range and features air conditioning, electric windows, power steering with Smart Steering, premium black fabric trim, electrically adjustable side mirrors and central locking.
In the W8 specification level, Mahindra has created one of the most luxurious interior packages available in the compact SUV segment.
The XUV300 W8’s list of luxuries includes a second USB charging point, an additional information screen between the colour-customisable LED-lit instrument cluster and electric windows with express up- and down function with anti-pinch technology. There is a glass tilt-and-slide sunroof, also with anti-pinch technology, cruise control and an integrated voice command system with steering-mounted controls.
Mahindra has also added additional driving aids, including its Tyretronics tyre pressure warning system, front and rear parking sensors, a reverse parking camera with parking assistance and automatic rain-sensing wipers.
Other creature comforts that come standard on the W8 specification level include dual-zone climate control with three pre-set memory settings, keyless access with a start-stop button and automatic headlights.
In the XUV300 W8, Mahindra has replaced the fabric seats with its luxurious leatherette upholstery.
“With the introduction of the W6 and W8 model ranges, we are able to cater both to the budget conscious buyer and buyers who do not want to compromise on luxury features, while offering both segments a modern infotainment system with satellite navigation,” says Gupta.
Ample space
With its long wheelbase and width of 1.821 m, the XUV300 offers exceptional interior space for the driver and passengers, with ample head and shoulder room for adult occupants, including three adult passengers in the second row.
The interior space is further improved by a near-flat floor in the rear with sculpted front seatbacks for additional rear leg room. In front, the driver has the benefit of a six-way adjustable seat and a height-adjustable steering wheel.
In the rear, the luggage compartment can be extended both vertically, with the option of three height settings for the luggage floor and horizontally by folding the rear seats forward in a 60:40 configuration.
Uncompromising safety and security
The Mahindra XUV300 offers category-best safety and security features.

Introduction
Who is the king of SUVs? Mahindra? Nope, as the sales charts show Hyundai and Maruti raking in huge numbers with the Brezza and Creta. The best selling SUV in India is a Maruti. Mahindra has been known for making rugged SUVs but who wants to go through forests or no roads? When most hardly take their SUVs out in the wild.
For most, the SUV presence and driving position is desirable but they want the space, comfort and features of a car. Mahindra tried it otherwise with the TUV300 with its rugged old school charm and the KUV100- both did not do well. Finally they have followed the trend and raided the SsangYong model family for a compact SUV and modified it for India. Say hello to the Mahindra XUV300. Is it good? Read on.
Looks
Whoever first sees the XUV300 says the SUV looks much bigger than rivals and mimics the Brezza too. Well, imitation is best form of flattery and the Brezza like square proportions work wonders and makes the car look bigger and appeal to a bigger audience. Mahindra took the SsangYong Tivoli and shortened it and also added some Mahindra attitude.
It works as the XUV300 looks fantastic. The cheetah inspiration is there and the headlamp detailing is also much like the XUV500. I like the way the grille and headlamp connect and how a wide stance it has with broad shoulders. The wheel-arches are well defined plus the big 17inch wheels fill it nicely. The floating roof makes the side interesting while the rear gives away to being more of a crossover with its hatch like tail-lamps. The paint finish and quality is a new high for Mahindra.
Interiors
Inside, more than the exteriors, Mahindra has left much of the Tivoli untouched and that is a good thing. This is unlike any other Mahindra product and fit plus finish is very good. There is a lot of silver used, which along with the light coloured cabin, lends the whole interior an airy feel. The instrument cluster is less cluttered than other Mahindra cars and displays all the info you need. More importantly ergonomically it is much better than other Mahindra cars and by that we mean pretty good space in the door pockets, storage is good and overall quality is for eg a lot better than even Scorpio!
The XUV300 has the longest wheelbase and is also the widest which reflects inside. Shoulder room is amongst the class best with three sitting at the rear easily. The seats though lack a bit of comfort. A slight disappointment is also the small boot which is below rivals.
Features
No contest. The XUV300 races ahead and brings many first in class features plus you can say it has more than cars costing double. There is a 7inch touch-screen which is slick and pretty good in its use-ability while it has Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, cruise control, rear camera etc. The big stuff includes an electric sunroof, front parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system, dual-zone climate control, all round disc brakes, heated mirrors, engine modes etc. In safety it has 7 airbags, ISOFIX / Child Seat Anchors, Corner Braking Control, ABS with EBD etc.
Driving
We drove the diesel XUV300- the petrol review will come soon, as and when we try to get it early for you. The diesel is the same Marazzo 1.5 unit with 115 bhp and 300Nm. While the petrol is a 1.2l turbo with 110 bhp and 200Nm. Compared to other Mahindra cars, the Marazzo was a big leap and the same is here on the XUV300. Refinement is better than its rivals and stuff like vibrations when using the gear lever is absent.
Speaking of which the 6-speed manual being standard (no auto) is again much improved and the smoothest gearbox yet on a Mahindra. At low speeds the steering is light and so is the clutch.
More so the engine does not have lag so in the city you can drive around without shifting down too much. However on the highways is when you enjoy it. The XUV300 has the most torque in its class and it shows. You can overtake and cruise at big speeds easily- it is stable. The ride does not have the choppiness of previous Mahindra’s and is polished and while there is roll, it is controlled. The XUV300 feels agile and nimble for its class. The steering modes, though feels like a gimmick and no real change was felt in the sportier mode. In terms of mileage it delivers 20 kmpl for the diesel.
Variant to buy
There are three variants on offer and interesting some of the talked about features like the sunroof or 7 airbags are on the option pack available on top of the W8 trim. That said the W8 offers the best value as the features really make the car. Talking about the color options, Mahindra XUV300 is available in 6 mono-tone colors and 2 dual-tone colors – Check all available Mahindra XUV300 Colors.
Vs rivals
Prices of the XUV300 start at Rs 7.9 lakh for the base petrol and stretches all the way to Rs 12 lakh for the top-end diesel. The Brezza is cheaper with a price range of Rs 7.7 lakh to 10.7 lakh. The Nexon is the cheapest with a starting price of Rs 6.3 lakh to Rs 10.8 lakh. The XUV is also more expensive than the EcoSport (Rs 7.8 lakh to Rs 11.8 lakh).
Yes, The XUV300 is more expensive than rivals but the top-end has features others do not have. One advantage others have on the XUV300 is the automatic as the XUV is manual only. The Nexon and Brezza are offered in AMT while the EcoSport has also a superb automatic. Compared to rivals the XUV offers a bigger look, more space and features while also having the most torque.
Verdict
Safe to say, that this is the best Mahindra yet. The XUV300 scores in all areas and crucially like features, looks, engine, space- it does very well- more than rivals. It is exactly what the modern day compact SUV buyer wants. The XUV300 is an all rounder and currently the best compact SUV to buy. Over to you Maruti…

Hyundai's new hyundai tucson india comming soon
The Hyundai Tucson is doing brisk numbers in India, outselling the company’s cheaper premium sedan, the Elantra. The company sold as many as 371 units of this smart looking SUV in December 2017 and January 2018 combined and now, as per our sources, Hyundai is looking at adding a new range topping version, the GLS+. We reckon this new version will also help hyundai tucson india attract prospective Jeep Compass owners into their showrooms and here is why.
The Tucson’s current top-end version is the GLS which though feature loaded, is devoid of two essential features in this price segment. First is a sunroof and second, ventilated seats. Hyundai will go a step ahead and offer a massive electric panoramic sunroof with both tilt and slide features. This feature will surely go down well with prospective customers. The Jeep Compass currently does not offer this at all. The next big SUV which offers a panoramic sunroof is the Volkswagen Tiguan Highline but it is priced at over Rs 30 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.
The second feature in the GLS+ will be ventilated seats. Hyundai is already offering this feature internationally and the Tucson’s front seats will get both heating and cooling function. If you remember, the new Verna already comes with cooling seats and it was high time the Tucson got this feature. Though this will not be of help in some areas of the country, we feel it will offer owners bragging rights in front of their friends.
We aren’t sure if the GLS+ will be offered with both the engine options at this stage but as per our sources, production has started and official statement should be coming our way this month.
Hyundai Tucson India Specification
The hyundai tucson india is offered with a choice of a 2.0-litre petrol or a 2.0-litre diesel engine.
The petrol unit is good for 155 PS of power and 192 Nm of torque while the diesel engine produces 185 PS of power and a healthy dose of torque – 400 Nm!
Both the engines come with manual as well as automatic transmission options.
Pricing for the Hyundai Tucson currently starts at Rs 17.99 lakh for the petrol range and Rs 19.99 lakh for the diesel range.
Prices being ex-showroom Delhi which puts it in a safe territory between options like the Mahindra XUV and Tata Hexa on one end and Toyota Fortuner / Ford Endeavour on the other. A 4×4 is offered with the top end diesel automatic GLS version. Here’s a quick look at the operation of hyundai tucson india panoramic sunroof.

Mahinda XUV 500
The in-house conceptualized and developed car was a departure from the usual DNA running on M&M product portfolio, by retaining the core strength associated with Mahindra cars. XUV boasted creature comforts of a car, coupled with go anywhere capability of an SUV, making the car famous among the car buying public. Most of the SUVs will never or very rarely thread their own paths. But the confidence that an SUV instills on our potholed infested roads and the imposing presence makes these genres of car a desirable object on wheels. It had many firsts from Mahindra, transversely mounted engine, front wheel drive and monocoque chassis etc., to name a few. XUV is not a jeep with car features bolted onto, yet it ticked all the right boxes what an aspirational middle class buyer wanted from a car. In-short a butch looking SUV with go anywhere capability without compromising on the creature comforts of any modern sedan.
Living With The Car
Yes, it’s a looker.
The car has a love it or hate it design and the Cheetah design, which definitely grows on you, in any case will attract attention.
No doubt it’s a BIG car with bulginess all over. Commanding driving position coupled with good visibility, makes graduation from a sedan or a hatchback to XUV not a herculean task. Interiors are interesting but there are rough patches all over. The 2015 upgrade has ironed many niggles but still the creases are not perfect. Front seats are supremely comfortable with good support all over. Car has acres of interior space unlike the Scorpio especially in the first and second rows. It’s a proper seven seater with decent leg room even in the third row. But it’s better to limit the usage of the third row for children or strictly for short distances. The car is loaded with bucket loads of features like key less entry, push button start-stop, auto climate control and tyre-tronics to name a few.
Car is powered by M&M’s 2.2 Liter 16 V mHAWK doing duties on the Scorpios but in a different state of tune and dishing put 140 bhp. It’s one of the most powerful motors in the segment and wanting of more power will not be on top of your list. Refinement is good, yet the engine sound coupled with other mechanical cacophony, sweeps into the cabin in the higher revs.
Mahindra have come a long way in the handling department, for the size and high Centre of Gravity, the car has decent handling capabilities. But always keep in mind that you are driving an SUV and not a low slung race car.
Being a diesel along with decent mileage figures which hovers in the range of 10-14 KMPL (depending on the highway/city and how hard you drive) fuel costs are kept under check.
The first service is at 5,000 Kms or 3 months and henceforth every 10,000 Kms. Mahindra comes with three free services valid up to 20,000 kilometers or 2 years whichever comes first. Being a Mahindra customer, you can be assured of reasonable costs for spares as well as service. XUV 500 has warranty coverage for 2 years/ 65,000 Kms, whichever occurs earlier. There is also an optional extended warranty scheme offered by Mahindra known as the shield warranty. This covers the following.
Engine Parts
Transmission System
Cooling System
Steering System
Fuel System
Suspension
Electrical System (factory-fitted)
Chassis System
Engine Oil Specification: SAE 15W-40 API rating exceeding CH-4 (Quantity: 6 Liters)
This does not include extra labor cost and consumable spare parts like brake pads and clutch plates etc.
Mahindra XUV 500 Spare Parts Prices (Consumables)
Front Brake Pad: Rs 4400/-
Clutch Plate assembly with flywheel : Rs 20000
Engine Oil ( 6.0 lit): Rs 1750
Engine oil Filter : Rs 180
Fuel Filter: Rs 1500
Cabin AC Pollen filter: Rs 1000
Being a Mahindra product, it has its own advantages and disadvantages. XUV 500 has some niggles and it doesn’t age perfectly. Cabin rattles starts up early in the life cycle of the car, though the same can be fixed up during the scheduled services.
Though the service is cheap and easily available the service experience with most of the customers cannot be termed pleasant. XUV 500 is the first car from Mahindra loaded with lots of electronic and electrical stuffs, as they are prone to throw some issues. Customers have faced some teething issues from the infotainment system, tyre-tronics and door open alerts etc. Car pulling to sides while driving straight and off center steering are common. Many felt that being plonked with a potent engine, Mahindra should have put better brakes on the XUV and premature brake pad wear was reported by some customers surveyed. We came across some customers whose clutch gave up early as 7,000-10,000 Kms. We remember same clutch plate plagued some Mahindra Scorpios too.
Total Cost of Ownership
Mahindra XUV500 was launched in September 2011. The total cost of ownership includes the following expenses incurred by the owner.
Depreciation: Like most of the cars, XUV also depreciates highest in the first year. Interestingly we observed increased depreciation in the fourth year, this can be attributed to the recent new launches and also 2015 upgrade for the XUV 500.
Insurance Costs (Savings on NCB not taken into account)
Periodic maintenance and spares associated
Parts like tyres, battery, brake pads, clutch etc considering normal usage
No major repair works, accident costs and interest costs are taken into consideration
Verdict
It’s a perfect blend of car and an UV retaining SUV look with comfortness of a car. Of course there are many rough edges, it’s a commendable effort put up by the homegrown manufacturer and from the sales charts it’s evident that their efforts has paid off well. The car continues to do good well in the sales chart, despite competition in the form of Dusters, Terranos, Ecosports and the recently launched Cretas. Launch of these wannabe SUVs put the XUV case further stronger. In terms of sheer value, practicality and road presence XUV is leaps and bounds ahead of them. It’s not a wannabe but a true blue UV with a perfect blend of sportiness and ruggedness to take on that occasional trip Off the Road.
