It was dark.

It was loud. Deafening, almost.

Querl Dox couldn’t see Kara Danvers.

Strobe lights blinded him, and Alex had just gotten shot mere feet away from him.

Brainy had pulled the trigger.

Alex cursed as she stood back up and ran to hide until her vest lit up again.

It had been Kara’s idea to go laser tagging.

Brainy had been confused when she had initially explained the concept, in the all the time he’d known his friends, and all the time he and Kara had been in their relationship, this game had never been brought up. But Kara had put on her puppy dog eyes and he had agreed after a quick rundown of how the game worked. And because of those sweet eyes behind her glasses.

He would do anything for her.

But they were on opposite teams: Kara, Alex, and Lena versus Brainy, J’onn, and James.

Since this was a completely new experience for Brainy, he wanted to be on the same team as Kara to have a guide, but she thought the women against the men would be the most fun. Brainy didn’t agree, but again, he would do anything for her. 

Brainy’s team was ahead by a few shots. His aim was excellent, of course. Alex had gotten him twice in the first few minutes, but he had adjusted quickly to the loud, dark environment, seeing this game as a relatively efficient target practice in case he ever needed to fire anything more serious in the future. But he could definitely see the fun in this, too. Hitting his opponents was enjoyable. He wasn’t going easy on the opposing team, but he hadn’t seen Kara since the beginning of the round when they ran into the arena. He knew she wasn’t using her powers, none of them were, so, where was she?

Brainy stayed low, ducking behind blockades and half walls. He took his turns quickly and stealthily as he swept the neon paint splattered room. He spotted Lena and shot her quickly before he ran up a ramp that led to a second level to get higher ground. He checked his corners and turned when he thought it was clear.

He was wrong.

He was finally face to face with Kara. He smiled at her, happy to finally see her in here, but was met with a raised eyebrow and a devious smirk. Kara’s eyes were light behind her glasses. Her gun was hanging by her side, so he lowered his too.

“Brainy.”

“Hello Kara, I’ve been-”

His words were cut off by Kara grabbing Brainy by his vest and pushing him against the wall. She was careful, but there was still an audible thud when his body made contact with it.

That threw him for a loop, but he didn’t make a sound. He wasn’t sure how to react. His eyes were wide with surprise but grew even wider when Kara’s lips forcefully met his.

It was a deep, urgent, almost rough kiss. It was harder than she had ever kissed him before. His gun dropped out of his hands and they found their way behind her neck and in her hair as he kissed her back. She kept him securely in place as they kissed for a few more toe-curling moments before she abruptly pushed away from him.

Brainy’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion at her behavior before she raised her gun and shot him right in the center of his chest. The color drained from his vest and he was out.

Kara gave Brainy a real smile then and placed another kiss on his lips. This one much sweeter, and she smiled as she placed it. “Sorry Brainy,” she laughed and ran off down to the first level.

The timer ran out right as she disappeared out of his sight and Kara’s team officially won. Brainy could hear James and J’onn each groan from different places in the arena as they realized the final score

Brainy shook his head, a little in disbelief at what just happened, but also in amusement at the stunt his girlfriend just pulled. “Kara, dear heart, that was cheating! I’m surprised at you!” he called after her playfully but was drowned out by Alex and Lena cheering their victory with Kara down below.

Of course, thanks to super hearing, Kara was still able to hear him. She turned to look up at where Brainy was leaning against the bannister on the second level, beaming at her. She blew him a kiss, winked at him, and shouted “I love you” up at him.

His smile grew and he shook his head again, completely in awe of this woman he was fortunate enough to call a partner in more ways than one. “And I love you,” he whispered down to her.

“Who’s up for round two?” Alex asked the two teams loud enough so they all could hear.

Everyone’s voices rang out in agreement and they made their way to the exit so they could get set up again for another game. Kara waited for Brainy to walk back down to the first level, her hand outstretched ready for him to grasp. He brought her hand up to rest against his lips before he quickly kissed her temple.

“I never expected you to play that dirty, Kara Danvers. It was an unforeseen tactic to say the least,” Brainy chided playfully as they walked together.

Kara’s cheeks turned pink and she shrugged. “I wanted to win, simple as that.” She pointed at him. “You didn’t seem to mind though, mister.”

“I…,” He began, but his words floundered. He cleared his throat. “That is not the point. It was still unfair.”

“Mmhmm,” Kara giggled as they walked out the door into the waiting room. “Let’s switch the teams up, yeah?” she offered as the group reset. Murmurs of agreement resonated around the room and they switched vests around. “I want to be with Brainy.”

He smiled at her. “Always,” Brainy reassured and squeezed her hand before they walked back into the black lit arena.

They were together this time.

And they always would be, no matter what.

Summary:

Or, Kara opens a Kryptonian pod, and takes its passenger in, helping him adjust to life on Earth.

But this time, said passenger doesn't look Kryptonian at all.

(aka the "what if Brainy was in the pod from the end of season 1, instead of Mon-El" AU nobody asked for. A full rewrite of season 2, including the musical crossover)

I absolutely loved this beautiful Arrowverse Fanart from the Supergirl ship of Karadox of the characters (Kara Zor-El) and Brainiac 5/Brainy (Querl Dox). If you ask me, I would have really liked this to have happened in the series because the truth is that I really wanted Brainy and Supergirl to have stayed together.

Not much had changed since they had gotten married. Kara didn’t expect to much to change, why would it? they where still the same people. But every now and then there would be a small change like how Brainy moved his legion ring to his right pinky, but he would still fiddle with the ring on his left hand when he was nervous. 

Brainy seemed to be the one who was always changing, like there was a of inevitability about it. Kara never liked changing to much at a time, she did change when she needed to but she was so used to things around her changing so fast like the floor falling out from under her, first her planet, then Jeremiah going missing, then Kenny dying. Her life was already filled with pain and uncertainty that the one thing she always wanted to be certain of was herself. 

but when it came to brainy those anxieties of change never bothered her. He was like water he could be still and clear like refined glass that looked like it could hold all the universe inside it, other times he was like a swelling ocean that could crush you under the height and weight of its waves and had depth the likes of witch you could never imagine, that were both frightening and amazing all at once.

and if Brainy was water then Kara was earth (and not just because she has claimed it as he home) as she is unmovable in principle, she is as stubborn as a mountain and as nurturing as a ripe peach on a dry day, she planted seeds of hope in others and she was like a firmly rooted tree that the branches of shaded and protected all who came to her. The two of them had always been a good match because of this the tree that cools the water and the water that is strong enough to bend, shape and nurture the roots.

Kara came home to Brainy as she always did and saw him working on something.

‘hey babe, what are you doing.’

‘redesigning my uniform,’

‘why whats wrong with it.’

‘nothing but i tradition calls to me to change it.’

‘tradition?’

Brainy then lifted up his belt that to show her that the 3 spots that used to be there where now replaced with a familiar ‘S’, but this ‘S’ was sliver and blue 

‘Do you like it?’

‘Yes, but why the change?’

‘Like i said tradition, as you know both are cultures have house symbols to determine family and status. On krypton with men and women marriages traditionally women take the house symbol of the men and there daughters take the fathers full name as the last name, yes.’

‘yep, as sure as my name is Kara Zor el’

‘yes, but on Colu regardless of gender you take the house symbol of the more powerful or influential family, in this case that would be the house of el.’

‘i guess it would piss off the other Brainiac’s as a nice plus too.’ 

‘Indeed, but i assure you i am far more proud to wear your symbol then there’s’

‘Our, our symbol.’

‘yes ours, hope.’

‘so should i expect to walk in on you re-branding your forehead sometime next week or…’

‘No unfortunately that won’t be possible’

‘that a shame’

‘you have no idea how much.’

Kara had been decorating her apartment for Christmas. she normally held an annual party but this year she was not sure she would with Alex not being able to leave the DEO much since Kara had to hang up her cape (for the time being at lest). James was running as many story’s on agent liberty as possible to at lest try to keep a conversation going and Kara had not been able to talk to Lena for weeks now not since here break up with James as she was burying herself in work. J’onn was volunteering at soup kitchen’s as he always did this time of year. 

so that left Kara by herself a lot lately, feeling sorry for herself and being a bit too selfish for her liking so once she’s finished here she’ll go help J’onn or James maybe give Alex a call. She could do it in a blink of an eye but Kara liked to decorate things like this slowly. That way she can feel more apart of the season as to just rushing through it.

just as she was putting tinsel out of the box she head a knock at the door. when she answered it, Brainy had turned around to face her as he had had his back to the door.

‘Hey Brainy what are you doing here is everything ok?’

he paused at her question and looked confused at her surprise

‘Yes, everything is alright, but you did tell me to meet with you tonight.’

‘I did’

‘yes, you where going to show me ‘It’s a wonderful life’ to get me in to as you put it the holiday spirit.’ 

‘oh right of course i forgot, well come in i was just decorating.’

‘ah yes the colonial tradition of brightening the inside of the home as to distract for the harsh winter outside i am familiar with it, I will help.’

‘thank you.’

the two of them then started to put the tinsel around the apartment, nick knacks on the tables and finally putting ornaments on the tree.

‘thank you for helping me Brainy.’

‘no matter, besides I think this is much better immersion, I always prefer hard data over observational collection.’

Brainy smiled as he put a gold bauble on the tree. 

‘I will keep that in mind.’

Kara was untangling the light on the floor as she looked up at him, Brainy then pulled another item out of the box and paused. 

‘hey, wait Brainy that one dose not go on the tree.’

‘why? what is it?’

he looked down at his hand to examine the green leafy object, Kara then stood up in front of him and took his hands in hers.

‘this is mistletoe and it doesn’t go on the tree it goes up high like in a door frame or a balcony places like that.’

‘why?’

he asked without looking up for his hand the way he said was almost like a child. 

‘will it’s tradition so that its high enough for two people to stand under.’

‘alright.’

Brainy looked up and around the apartment until he found a pace to hang it, he then lifted himself into the air with his flight ring and placed it there. he then lowered himself down still looking at it. he then looked at Kara as if to signal her to come over. she then walked over to him and when she was in front of him he looked up again looking confused.

‘is it not working?’

‘sorry?’

‘is the mistletoe not working?’

Kara could not help but let out a giggle as she shook her head a little.

‘have I miss read the situation.’

‘a little bit,yeah.’

Brainy looked down at his feet he didn’t like getting things wrong especially not in front of Kara. Kara had stopped her giggling but said cheerily 

‘no it’s ok it sweet, I mean your planet is build around technology so what you were thinking makes scents.’

Brainy then lifted his head and put his figures together as he normally did when discussing serous matters. 

‘So if you don’t mind my asking, what is the mistletoe for exactly.’

‘Well I don’t think it’s for anything but there is a tradition for when to people are under it.’

‘yes,yes what is it a prayer, a chant, a sacrificial ritual perhaps.’

‘No Brainy, and what would we even scarifies.’

‘many number of things like hair, valuables and..’

‘ok i get but no that’s not what it is.’

‘then what do you do under mistletoe.’

Kara’s mind made an evil thought she could not shake.

‘how about i just show you.’

‘ok.’

‘close you eyes.’

he did as she said he closed his eyes and put his hands at his side. Kara edged closer to him looking at the details in his face his sweet, soft face. she took one more step so that there was only centimetres between them. Kara then leans in to close the gap between them her lips gently pressing his, he pulled back of a second before realising what was happening. he then embraced the contact willingly, eagerly and with a bit of disbelief. Kara then pulled away from him, Brainy then opened is eyes to see Kara’s smiling face. 

‘that is what mistletoe is for.’

‘I see, are there any other traditions you could show me.’

‘sure.’

Brainy looked shyly at the ground 

‘are there any more that have mistletoe?

In the comics it reveals that Supergirl and Brainiac 5 had a daughter, which in a mixture of both calls itself XLC also known as Brainiac daughter, I wanted to increase that idea and make it live action, they end up making another season of supergirl I would like to put Kara and Querl's daughter in the series
