i'm really bored so uh. here have some of my headcanons for the main yttd characters
sara: wears expensive strawberry perfume. probably class president, and one of the, if not the, top student at sonobeno. really likes shortbread. dated ryoko briefly but they ended up just being friends again
shin: he's trying to make it as a twitch streamer. he doesn't have many followers but is actually really good. dropped out of university due to chronic illness making it hard for him to attend. never really bullied at school, but completely ignored (he's so me fr fr)
keiji: has definitely made those weird police officer thirst traps on tiktok (the ones kurtis connor made a video on). megumi had all of them saved to her phone. he now moderates a police rp discord server. bisexual with a lot of internalised homophobia
gin: he's scared of spiders, but will never admit it. he's also eaten bugs before because he saw a cat doing it. has a pet rock and collects little plastic animal figures and pokemon cards. was absolutely obsessed with dinosaurs when he was younger
reko: did ballet as a child. will never admit this and would probably kill anyone who brought it up. was in an idol group as a teenager and still has trauma from the idol industry. burnt out gifted kid
alice: took up knitting as a hobby in prison and always sent reko incredibly lumpy jumpers (it's the thought that counts, it's fine). she never opened the parcels. used gonbee as a name when he socially transitioned in high school, but ended up changing it back to alice. history buff. got top surgery from a friend in uni
nao: her favourite food is creme brulee. works part time at a convenience store to pay for college. went to high school with shin but doesn't remember him. most of her money goes into hair upkeep and scrunchies. has a mishima shrine in her dorm room (her friends want her to go to therapy). has an anxiety disorder
mishima: he has several pet rats, most of which are named after famous artists. still kind of an alcoholic but mostly drinks unhealthy amounts of tea instead. intentionally makes himself look weird (specifically in terms of his hair) because he's slightly more unsettling when he doesn't. in a similar vein, he smells of oil paint because it covers up the smell of cigarette smoke. was homeless as a teenager and has never had a good relationship with his family. owns a copy of the communist manifesto
kai: he doesn't cook tiramisu because it reminds him too much of sei. mr chidouin gave him a 'kiss the cook' apron once, and kai hates it but wears it sometimes anyway to make him happy. has always enjoyed being sara's bodyguard because it gave him a chance to experience a normal childhood. has never given gashu a father's day gift. sometimes has hallucinations of sei
q-taro: was never adopted due to not being japanese, which made him really insecure. always got rejected from the baseball team in middle school, but had a full-on anime training arc before high school and got on the team. still watches the koshien championships every year. got into a pretty good uni on a sports scholarship. goes on holiday to the usa every year. has an incredibly low alcohol tolerance
kanna: has actually kept pudding under her bucket before to hide it from kugie and their parents. her favourite ice cream flavour is vanilla. kind of a theatre kid and especially enjoys six and heathers. almost as good at video games as shin, except minecraft which she is much better at. usually plays minecraft on peaceful mode but is unbeatable at pvp. makes incredibly messed up sims 4 storylines. likes vocaloid music
joe: listens to idol groups sometimes (sara bullies him over it). massive one piece fan and has played danganronpa. has a part time job at an arcade and always helps sara and ryoko cheat at the games. loves ramen. actually a pretty decent cook

College fits: the desi version
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kurtis
Starting of with the very basic indo-western outfit: Kurtis. Now, you can wear knee length or short-length kurtis, whatever your prefer.
First of all, please, for the love of god, don't go for those cheap chikankari kurtis or those 'kashmiri embroidered' kurtis. It's disrespecting to the real chikankari and kashmiri embroidered work and secondly, its tacky atp.
Go for normal, printed or plain kurtis. I would say thin straps, or cut-sleeves kurtis cause they feel more girlish and more appropriate for college. If you are insecure about your arms then you can go quarter length and full length too. You can buy good and cheap ones from zudio or myntra.
You can pair your kurtis with shorts, jeans or skirts. Your jeans could be linen, wide -legged, cargos, etc. Avoid skinny jeans or ripped jeans.
Personally, I love to wear short kurtis with baggy cargos. I wear boots cause I love that edgy aesthetic. It's OP for me. I live for that fit.
Skirts
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, if you want to wear those long flowy skirts, you can just pair them with any normal top of your choice. Additonally, you can wear a duppatta as a scarf and go for the whole Ananya from 2 states look.
You can also wear those really big shararas that almost look like skirts. But daily wear dividers/ shararas are a bit hard to find. You would have to get them stitched only.
Nowadays, a lot of of other sort of traditional skirts are also coming. Wrap around skirts, pencil skirts, short skirts, etc. You can find them easily online. Again, pair them with your normal tops.
If you don't like those traditional skirts/ ghagras you can also opt for those trending maxi skirts. Pair them with jhumkas, duppatta and a boho tote bag and you are good to go!
Shirts
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okayyy so printed shirts are my favorite.
You can just wear the shirts with the bottom of your choice. Even with skirts. You saw Katrina Kaif in Fitoor. Take inspiration.
If skirts aren't your thing,I would personally suggest linen pants. Looks amazing.
The other option is ofcourse wearing your shirts as shrugs over your outfits. Avoid buying those full length shrugs and wearing them over jeans and top. It doesn't look elegant.
Random
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pathani kurtas on women>> Yes, I mean those short linen material kurtas that men wear. Feels androgynous and I love them alot.
If you have some pretty duppattas and scarfs, you can wear them as tops.
You can also wear those patiala pants like geet from jab we met. They are really comfortable and I feel not as normalized in your indo-western style too. So you can have your own unique style by experimenting with them. You can buy the plain color patiala pants and pair it with cute fitted strappy tops. Complete the look with punjabi jootis.
You can also just wear duppattas over your normal western outfits too. Maybe or maybe not add jhumkas according to the outfit. Add a totebag and voila! the simplest indo-western outfit out there.
Vests! I live for vests. Vests add color to my outfit in the simplest way possible. it's chic, it's elegant and ots perfect for when you have interviews or jury if you wear them the right way.
There are endless possibilites with the indo-western look. It's all upto you- how much you want to experiment. Some of my friends in Nift even wear sarees in indo-western look and go to college wearing that. So, ultimately it's all upto you.
Accessories
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel like accessories totally determine your look. If you want it to be more party wear types or minimalist- it all depends on the accessories. They totally carry your look.
For the normal days, you can add on chudiyas. Can go for siilver ones, but if you want it to be a bit more dressy, you can buy matching chudiyas.
Accessories matching your outfit>>>> Even if you are wearing silver jwellery, try to match the rest of the things with your outfit. Rubberbands, hair clip, bangles, your shoes, your bag, etc.
Wear jootis when you go indo-western.
I feel like the key for accessories is to not overdo it. Keep it simple. The best part about our desi style is we have a lot of ways to dress up- bindis to payals. For your college fits, you can just go for bindis matching your outfit or the black one, jhumkas and bangles. finish it with a totebag.
When your shoes are visible with an outfit, you can do this. I like to wear boots alot. So, whenever I wear dresses and my boots are visible, I wear payals over them. It looks really cool. 10/10
if you are really into the aesthetic and want to play around, you can also try wearing scarfs as hairbands, silver necklaces as headbands, use earrings as hair ties.
To feel like a desi coquette, you can wear those bowtie hair clips matching the color of your kurta

he learns how to make chai just for you
knows exactly how much milk and sugar you like, which brand of patti you prefer
drinks chai with you sometimes during the evening after he's done with work
LOVESSS DESI FOOD
the first time he tried it he let out a groan and commented on how good it was
one time you both ordered nihari with naan
he was mesmerized by the way you ate with your hands
thought you looked graceful
when you asked him what he was doing he turned into a flustered mess while he made up an excuse as to why he totally wasn’t staring at you
he thinks mehndi is beautiful and lets you use his hands to practice designs
one time he fell asleep with his hand against his face and woke up with a flower pattern on his cheek (personal experience here)
cue the widening eyes when you tell him that mehndi lasts for about a few weeks
he’ll have spiderpeople snickering at him while he's being serious
whenever you both are going out somewhere and you wear traditional clothes be prepared because this man is obsessed
his jaw is on the floor as you come out in a kurti, shalwar kameez, saree, lehenga, etc
cannot and will not take his eyes (and hands) off of you
will shower you in compliments
"look at you, amor." "my beautiful girl." "you’re so gorgeous.” "i still can't believe you're mine."
he's fallen in love all over again
he will 100% be protective of you when those aunties talk to you
uses witty remarks to get them to leave you both alone
will comfort you if their comments hurt you
“look at me, querida. what they said isn’t true. they wanted to get under your skin because they’re insecure and judgmental. whatever they said doesn't define anything. believe me, you’re perfect. so perfect for me. i love you no matter what. i always will."
the first time he tried kohl his eyes started watering
he got used to it after a while
makes his eyes look super pretty
flutters his eyelashes because you asked.. loves the squeal he receives in response
you take pictures of him when he wears it because he looks wayy too fine
"baby, i think that's enough-"
"one more picture. c'mon, for me?"
he can never say no to you

Where Do You Go? | three | Bradley Rooster Bradshaw
Your husband died in a training accident, unexpectedly. So what happens when you find yourself leaning on his best friend and wingman, Rooster Bradshaw?
Tumblr media
Part One Part Two
It felt strange, going out without Kurtis by your side. Three months without him. Three weeks with only Rooster as your company. He did his best, just like he promised. But the empty ache was still there. He couldn’t get rid of that even if he tried.
But you allowed him to convince you to come to the Hard Deck, just for a little while tonight.
You planned on leaving before Rooster started playing piano and singing, mostly because you didn’t want to cry in the bar. Not again. But you weren’t sure how you were going to get through even just a short amount of time. Not when everyone that knew and worked with Kurtis would probably be there. But you promised Rooster.
So you took a deep breath and stepped through the doors.
Rooster could feel the moment you walked in, he wasn’t sure how, but he knew. He could feel it to the point that he missed his shot and scratched while shooting pool with Phoenix and some of the others. He straightened his back and licked his lips, trying to get rid of the dry feeling before making his way over to you.
You tried to muster a smile, but he could see just how strained it was, how fake. You had on shorts today and a nice blouse. You combed your hair and even put on a little makeup. The sight made something stir in Rooster’s chest. Just like the sight of him in his uniform khakis made you feel some sort of way.
Then the guilt settled in for both of you. You, because you realized it was a strange sense of attraction that you were feeling for Rooster. You always knew he was attractive, you always said he would make some woman so lucky. Yet he never brought anyone around, claiming no one was ever interested. Guilt because you lost your husband mere months ago, and somehow you were already looking at another man, his best friend nonetheless.
And Rooster…the guilt for him was somehow worse. Because he knew how wrong it was to look at you. You were his best friend’s widow, the woman he promised to protect and look after. Not lust after. There was never anything in the agreement about being allowed to want you. Because in that moment, he did want you. He wanted to take you out to his bronco and keep you there. But he didn’t have the right to do that, or to feel any of this. You were strictly off limits. His only job was to protect you and help you navigate this new life without Kurtis, not try to replace him.
“Hi,” You sounded out of breath when you finally reached Rooster.
“Hey, you made it,” Was the first thing Rooster could think of to say.
Obviously you made it. You were standing right in front of him, eyes glassy like you’d been crying earlier in the day. He hated seeing you cry. He’d seen enough of it in the last weeks that he was sure he would never get the image out of his mind.
You stood, one foot awkwardly on top of the other as you held your wrist. He knew you were covering the scabs from when you quite literally tried to scratch off your tattoo just two weeks earlier. Another one of your outbursts like with the pictures.
Though, you were glad to find out later that Rooster was able to save all of the photographs and even a few of the frames. You wished you could smash them all over again, because for just a few moments, the ache was gone. While he held you, the ache was manageable, you could live with it like that. Unlike now, where you felt like it might swallow you whole and leave no trace of you behind.
“Do you want a drink?” He asked, motioning over to the bar.
He still had his sunglasses on. He told you a little while ago that they belonged to his dad, one of the few things he had left of him. The sunglasses and all of the Hawaiian t-shirts he liked to wear when he wasn’t in uniform. You used to make fun of him for them, but now you understood. Because now you slept in Kurtis’ old shirts, you clutched onto the few items you kept. His favorite things showed in a drawer in the back of your closet.
“A drink would be really good, actually,” You breathe out, nodding slowly.
He smiles at you before leading you towards the bar and waving Penny over. You don’t pay attention to what he orders for you. But you have faith that he knows all of your favorite things, because he’s ordered them so many times over the years for you. He would get round after round when he came out with you and Kurtis. He liked to treat the two of you.
“Here,” He slips a glass into your hand, “It’s a double and then some so, take it easy.”
You nod, taking a sip of the lemonade and vodka, feeling the alcohol slip down your throat. You liked that feeling, always had. But now it was another thing to distract you from everything else. Just like the way Rooster was now holding your hand and gently pulling you along with him was something else. Anything with Rooster was something to distract you.
You didn’t want to rely on him as just a distraction though. But you couldn’t allow yourself to want more from him. It wouldn’t be right.
How long is long enough? How long until you can stop feeling so guilty for enjoying being with another man, even if it has nothing to do with romance? How long until you can be with another man, really be with them, and not feel guilty for it?
“You doing okay?” He brings his lips close to your ear so you can hear him.
You nod, even though you aren’t sure. Your skin feels too tight for your body. You keep expecting to turn around and find Kurtis watching you from across the bar like he did so many nights over the years. You and Rooster would play darts together while Kurtis hung back with a big smile on his face. Or you would follow Rooster to the piano and play with him. You were the musical one, not Kurtis. He couldn’t carry a tune in a wheelbarrow even if he tried.
The thought brings a large lump to your throat, making it hard to breathe for a moment. What would he say if he was here to see you clutching onto Rooster like he was your anchor in a storm? Would he be mad at you, or relieved that his friend was there to take care of you?
God…his friend…his best friend. His best man. The man who stood up next to him as he recited his vows to you. The man who asked so politely before taking you onto the dance floor and gently swaying with you for a while. The man who hammered on the piano for half the night and brought life to every party.
But he only brought life to the party with Kurtis. Because now, just like you, Rooster felt like he was missing a limb. He could feel it deep in his chest every time he looked over at the corner table that he used to sit at with the two of you. Someone else was there now, not knowing the significance of that stupid booth.
He took a deep breath and tugged you alongside him. He had a promise to keep. And he needed to keep his hands and his thoughts to himself while he did his damned best to keep it. He wouldn’t put you into a position that would make you backside and shut him out. He needed you just as much as you might have needed him. He needed to be near you, because he felt like he could finally breathe when he was. He didn’t see Kurtis crash everytime he closed his eyes when you were near him, or hear it play out again and again in his mind.
“Do you want to go play something?” He asked, seeing the way you kept looking over at the piano.
You didn’t have time to think before you were nodding slowly, like you were in a trance. He nodded back and let go of you long enough to walk over and pull the plug on the jukebox. Then his hand was back in yours, tugging you towards the piano. He sat you down on the bench before taking his seat right next to you.
“Can you play Heroes?” You asked softly.
There’s a sad shimmer in his eyes as he nods and starts playing old familiar chords. Kurtis loved David Bowie’s Heroes, but he loved it even more when you and Rooster played it like this. He loved the piano and the sound of your voices together. Up until now, you couldn’t even bring yourself to think of the song. So you closed your eyes and let the music fill you, one hand on the side of the old piano so you could feel the vibrations.
The bar was silent as you sang. Everyone here seemed to understand what was happening. If you opened your eyes you would’ve seen the way some people were already crying as Rooster started to sing. Or the way that Rooster had his eyes on you and you alone, not even paying attention to where his hands were on the keys. He played this song enough to trust that his hands knew the chords without having to question it.
Tears slowly slipped down your cheeks as you joined in with him at the chorus. You could feel the music all the way to your soul, patching up something that was so broken within you, and yet at the same time breaking other parts away. Fixing and breaking.
You were on your feet the second the song was over, dashing towards the door. The second you opened your eyes and saw the way that Rooster was looking at you, you knew you had to leave. Because you were getting too close to him, too personal. Too comfortable and feeling too safe.
He ran after you, getting to you before you could even reach your car. You wanted to curse his long legs and fast strides. He didn’t even give you a fighting chance before his arms were around you, keeping you from running further.
You went limp in his arms, allowing the tears to openly flow. He dropped his cheek to the top of your head, trying to comfort you the best he could. He learned a few tricks over the last couple of months. He knew he could get you to stop pretty quickly, but he had the feeling that you just needed to let all of this out. So he let you cry and he held you as you did.
“I can’t keep doing this,” You mumbled, tears finally starting to dry, “I can’t keep expecting you to be here at every turn to catch me.”
His head shakes, “That’s why I’m here. That’s my whole job, to catch you when you fall. Be here to pick up up when you do. That’s what I promised Kurtis I would do.”
Your eyes meet his. He’s serious, you know he is. He’ll be there time and time again because he’s a good man. Too good of a man. He’d put his own feelings towards Kurtis’ death aside as long as it meant being there for you, just like he’d been doing for the last few months. You loved him for it, even though it broke your heart even more.
“Who’s there to catch you?” You question, holding onto his arms.
He shrugged, “I can catch myself.”
Your heart broke open. You felt like you were laid bare in front of him now. If he looked close enough he might be able to see into your soul. Somehow standing in the middle of the parking lot of The Hard Deck felt more personal than all of the time he spent in your home.
“You shouldn’t have to catch yourself,” You argue softly, “This should be a two way street. You should be allowed to miss him too.”
“I do miss him,” He responds almost immediately, “I just do it on my own time.”
“Miss him with me,” You plead, “Feel this with me. Don’t let me be the only one losing their mind. Please.”
He then nods, holding you closely. Something changed between the two of you tonight. The lines blurred a little. Friend into something else. More than just induced by grief, but bonded by something other than trauma. You held tightly to him, trying to convey in a simple hug that he wasn’t alone anymore. That he had someone in his corner, like he’d been the person to be in yours.
“I should call an uber,” You said, finally backing away, “I can’t go back in there tonight. Too many people are looking at me with their pity eyes.”
“You learn to stop noticing it,” He shrugged, “But, I can drive you. It’s not too far out of my way, anyway, and I don’t feel like drinking anymore.”
“You don’t have to do that,” You shake your head again.
“Just let me go close out my tab so Penny doesn’t have my balls,” He forces a laugh, “I’ll be right back.”
He gets a few steps away before stopping and reaching into his pocket. He turns around and throws a set of keys at you, “Go start her up. I’ll be out in just a minute.”
You stare down at the set of keys as he makes his way into the bar. He never let anyone touch his keys. In all of the years that you’d known him, and the even longer time Kurtis knew him, Rooster only let Kurtis start his precious Bronco once. And even then that’s only because Bradley wasn’t cleared to drive after an accident in PT but couldn’t leave his Bronco on base. Something stirred in your chest, a sort of feeling you couldn’t exactly place. He trusted you with his Bronco. He trusted you with the keys. He trusted you. Simply put.
You’re still standing there when he comes back out less than five minutes later. He has a small smile on his face, although you’re sure it doesn’t reach his eyes. But he’s trying, just like you are. You’re both trying the best you can.
“I thought I said you could start her up?” He questions, nudging you towards the car.
“Felt wrong,” You managed to shrug, “I haven’t even held the keys before.”
“Well, keep being nice and I might let you drive her one day.”
His sly wink made you smile. A real smile. The kind of smile you hadn’t felt in months. Not since the morning before you got the news. Kurtis was making jokes in the kitchen and you laughed so hard your body shook. But now, it was a quiet smile, small in feature, but big in meaning.
Rooster smiled knowing you were really smiling, and grabbed your hand. Together, you made your way towards the Bronco and a few phase of your friendship. One where you leaned on one another, instead of it being one sided.

My DR family tree (MHA!!)
This is not the post I was talking about in my last blog, I just finished my family tree (using canva) and I wanted to share it! I fucking hate the colour palatte btw so we r gonna ignore it and pretend its black and white
Tumblr media
IGNORE THAT RANDOM WHITE WOMAN AND RANDOM WHITE MAN I DONT HAVE A FACECLAIM FOR THAT SIDE OF MY FAMILY YET HELP MEEE information below!
Anyways lets start with my grandparents Robert and Carol
YES THEY ARE NICKI MINAJ'S PARENTS AND WE WILL TALK ABOUT IT!! Idk why but i rlly felt the need to b related to nicki (i think i was obsessed w her when making this dr LMFAO) but i js stuck w it bc clearly younger me had a thing going on. I haven't fully developed them because... they aren't my parents and they live in Florida while I live in Japan.. soo.. ONTO ONE OF THEIR KIDS!
Milagros is Onika's younger sister (i... think.. LMFAO). Her quirks are Mental Blood Manipulation (being able to control someone's thoughts through blood), Earth's Energy (meaning she uses energy from the sunlight.. like this girl photosynthesizes so yes, she does have flowers growing from her hair), and Personal void -- inspired by Janet from the good place (GOOGLE IT.) She has dark brown hair, a mixed skin tone, hazel eyes, and she stands at 5'4 in. Her occupation is a fashion designer at SCULPTOR clothing. Miracle (Milagos nickname) married Kenji Toga. Kenji's face claim is kinda wack because I could not find what I originally wanted him to look like (he's blonde, with stubble but.. girl i think the pin got deleted.) He has golden-ish eyes, pale skin, and he stands at around 6'8 in... girl.. uhm... yeah. He is super sweet and knowledgeable. He wears some glasses that make him look like an old man, though. He also works at SCULPTOR as a business manager (yeah, they became friends bc Miricle needed a business manager LMFAO THEN THEY GOT MARRIED ISNT THAT CUTE??) His quirks are Black blood (I will be making a blog on this) and stealth (i dont know what this means anymore or why I made it.)
Now, onto my siblings.
First up we have one of the twins, the younger one, Kuro. His American name is Kurtis, and he stands at 6'2 at 17 years old. Yeah. He attends UA's competing school, Shiketsu. Because of that, we are high in competition -- as many siblings are. Together, we are a lot of trouble.. so uhm... yeah. LMFAOO!! He has dark brown hair, tanned skin, and green and golden eyes (HETEROCHROMIA)!! If y'all want me to draw him I will... I suppose... but y'all js gon slut over him omg. Anyways! His quirks are shape shifting and outcome (again, I have no idea what outcome is).
The second twin, Himiko Toga! Yes, the one that becomes a villain you guys, I am so y/n stfu. She has blonde hair, lightly tanned skin and is 5'7 at 17. The women got fucked over, dude. WE NEED TO BE TALLER !! Anyways, she is super sweet, her perception of reality is just messed up. We always used to do each others hair, makeup, and walk our dogs together. She loves the outdoors and makes me so so happy. In this version, she has two quirks -- blood shifting (her og quirk) and stealth. He also has a few strands of red and blue in his hair.
I'm gonna skip myself for now and go onto Himari. At the time I shift, only one of her quirks have developed, and it is earths blessing ( a version of our mothers quirk. ) She is a version of my cr little sister. At the time I shift I believe she's in middle school??? I don't know. But she looks the most like my mother, only having my fathers face shape. Finally, me -- Harmony. You may be wondering "well why is your name American and nobody else's?" I was the only one born in the US. LMFAO IM LAME BRO THE REST OF MY FAMILY WAS BORN IN JAPAN!! Anyways... My deadname is Harmony, and in the US I go by Karsyn or Kaythan and in Japan I go by Kosuke. When I shift I am 14...ish? I have no idea for sure. I was born with brown hair, but I have sense dyed it to be black, red and white. I attend UA high. I am 5'8 at the time, and my quirks (yes... i have four...) are bone manipulation, black blood, shape shifting and personal void. One day I will make a post going more in depth about myself, but right now I just wanted to make an overview of my whole family.
I hope you guys like this post! It was fun going through my script and remembering everything about my dr. I will update everything when I do shift there, but for now, that's it!
Love and blessings,
Abyss

AUTHOR'S NOTE: I hate everything I write, with the exception of this story. It's like my words have an expiry label that says "BEST BEFORE: 2 WEEKS", after which I start cringing at them. Summer Sweetheart is the first and only story of mine that I cherish so deeply. I love the characters and I love their banter, and I like to pretend I didn't write it so that I can return to read it. I hope it receives a fraction of this love from its readers on Tumblr too.

。°⚠︎°。 This story is heavily influenced by desi culture. Here's a lexicon to guide you through foreign words, which have been used sparsely in the story:
Mandi (muhn-dee): A large market for fruits and vegetables
Haveli (ha-way-lee): a manor house, usually in villages or smaller towns
Charpai (chaar-pa-ee): a bed with a wooden frame and jute webbing
Kurti (ker-ti): An Indian tunic
Dupatta (doo-puh-ta): An Indian scarf
Nani (na-nee): maternal grandmother
Tumblr media
Summer brought you to the bustling haveli in the countryside, where your grandmother and her retinue of servants fussed over how thin you’d gotten and took it upon themselves to flesh you out. Summer brought family reunions and nightly ruminations, cross-legged on charpais under the star-spangled skies until the conversation was taken over by that uncle whose astrological fascinations overflowed into a panoramic commentary on all the constellations that your city was never graced with. Summer brought bright mornings, waking up under the mosquito net that sheltered you from the plaguing insects but not the beaming sun rays. Summer held many charms for you, and Seo Changbin was one of them.
The last day of summer was yet another day spent frolicking through the orchards, amid the fruit laden trees and kempt grass, barefoot and hand in hand with your childhood sweetheart. You wore silly grins on your faces, cheeks tinted red under the leafy canopy that filtered in light from the sweltering summer sun, too young and too in love with the present to notice everything that could go wrong.
The orchard boasted of ripe mangos, ready to be plucked and sold in the nearby town’s mandi, from where, your mothers would ensure, the delectable summer treat would find its way onto your plates in a variety of preparations each meal for the rest of the season until you were sick of its cloying sweetness. But young and callow as you were, Changbin and you couldn’t let go of the opportunity the old neighbour’s visit to the city presented - an orchard full of free fruits with no one to stop you.
Off you’d went, the mischievous, little delinquents that you were, tiptoeing out of your houses after lunch when all admonishing adults were lost deep in their midday siestas. Leveraging the catch in the wall, you’d scrambled into the orchard and scampered off under the security of the shade, ready to sink your teeth into someone else’s bounty.
“That’s a dumb idea.” You didn’t need to stop or turn his way to tell that the only thing Changbin could achieve with his idea would be a colossal failure when you heard a pause in his footsteps.
“What’s dumb is your outfit,” He shot back without lifting his eyes from the heap of dried leaves and fallen twigs that had been swept to a nook in the buttress roots of a rather large tree.
“You’re one to speak.” Changbin was the image of utter comedy in your eyes, wearing a comically large t-shirt over a pair of shorts one size too tight for him, no doubt hand-me-downs from his cousins. After all, what would a summer family reunion be without the ritualistic passing down of elders’ outgrown clothes to the youngers? But you didn’t fare any better. “Besides, it’s not my fault that my mother wants me to ‘connect with my roots’,” You huffed. Your mother made you dress modestly here, lest her family comment on the city culture that was apparently tarnishing your traditions. Dolled up in a kurti and a long skirt, only the embroidered dupatta you’d stolen from your aunt redeemed for your otherwise cumbersome attire.
“Whatever,” He mumbled absently, twirling a twig between his fingers. “Just wait and watch.”
You did neither, continuing down the trodden path as you adjusted your glasses to scan the dark, glossy leaves overhead for fruits within reach. The trees were regularly spaced every ten feet or so, teeming with mangoes that hung in bunches high up. Neither Changbin nor you had a stature worth bragging about; you were just two awkward midgets who’d have to step up a few branches to reach even the lowest of the heavy hanging fruits.
Secretly, you liked the way that would always play out.
It would start with the firm hold of his hands on your waist, hoisting you until you caught onto a branch. Your flimsy skirt wouldn’t offer your knees much protection against the rough, ant ridden wood as you’d scramble to mount it, Changbin’s hands hovering cautiously until he’d be convinced you were ready to help him up. His crayon fingers would dig into your clammy palms, face scrunched with effort that would only relax with a sigh of relief once he’d be seated beside you, knees bumping into each other’s as your legs would swing in a platonic cadence.
Of the whole mango thievery experience, this was the part that made your heart race the most. So, a twinge of disappointment coloured your frowning lips when you saw that Changbin seemed to be inclined towards a different plan this time.
“I said wait!” He called from behind in his typical whinging tone, only to evoke a defiant snicker out of you. You switched to a brisker pace with the sole intent of annoying him. “Hey! Don’t go so fast! You’ll stub your toe on a rock and fall on your butt if you don’t wait for me, I’m telling you!” He warned, finally rising from his crouched position.
You couldn’t resist sticking your tongue out at him before you broke into a sprint. The scenery around you blurred in motion as your bare feet pounded the grassy ground, one hand lifting your skirt while the other held onto your dupatta. Luckily for you, it seemed that the area had been pruned recently - barely any pebbles caught in your feet, though the grass did tickle you. But your focus was directed on outrunning the short, skittish boy chasing you.
It was so easy to irk Changbin, so easy to elicit his grumpy wails of complaint and adorable scowls, to urge him into this frivolous game of chase. A hearty laugh bubbled in your chest as you chanced a glance behind, sneering at his flushed face as he brandished the stick in his hand in a way that, you supposed, was meant to be threatening. His torrent of threats drowned in ripples of giggles and squeals as he began to catch up with you, startlingly quicker than you’d imagined. After all, he wasn’t the one hindered by a flowy outfit. Just when you’d expected his arms to close around your waist in the dizzying way they always do, you felt a light pull at your braid. When you turned, it was too late.
An impish grin adorned Changbin’s face as he held up the hair tie he’d slipped out of your hair. “Wait, no- ” You pulled off your glasses - they had fogged from the run - and leapt at his blurry figure, trying to snatch it out of his hands. He hid it behind his back and sidestepped you, moving out of your range of reach.
“Bin, my hair’s oily, I can’t leave it open!” You pleaded. Your grandmother had a peculiar passion for oiling your hair every other night, and today was just one of those days when you’d been too lazy to wash up in the morning, leaving you with a greasy mop of hair drenched to the roots in amla oil, barely tamed into a braid.
But Changbin refused any empathy towards you or your hair. “‘My hair’s oily’,” he mimicked you in a nasal voice, adding, “Nope, you’re not getting it back! It’s mine now!” Mischief radiated from his sparkly eyes and scrunched nose and the high pitched giggles he let out at your distress. “Besides, I like it better this way,” he said, gesturing to your hair. You would’ve swooned at the scintilla of sincerity that peaked through his taunt, if not for your untangling braid that threatened to curtain your face in oily locks.
“Changbin.” You spoke carefully, enunciating his whole name with a low voice and a pointed stare as you tied your dupatta at the waist, the sternest equivalent of rolling up your sleeves you could imitate in this attire. “Give. It. Back!”
And yet, Changbin’s response to the most intimidating front you could’ve put up was of nonchalance and disregard, complete with an exaggerated eye roll. “Oh, calm down! You don’t look that ugly.”
“Excuse me-”
“Leave your hair be.” He brushed you off with a dismissive wave. “I want to try something first, watch this.”
“What- Oh goodness! It’s not going to work, Changbin, I’ve told you - it’s a dumb idea!” You splayed your arms and stomped your feet like a toddler throwing a tantrum, miffed with his antics. But your words fell to deaf ears as a beaming Changbin carried on with his - might you add, utterly foolish and entirely useless - plan. The stick he’d picked was shaped like a Y, and with your trusty hair tie, Changbin aspired to put together a makeshift slingshot. Fruitlessly ambitious, in your humble opinion - quite literally, you’d say.
“We won’t have to climb the trees then, it’ll be much easier with this.” He tried to persuade you. Not that it worked, you weren’t convinced in the slightest. But all the summers spent together had acquainted you with Changbin’s tenacity enough to know his dogged determination wouldn’t let up until he went through with it.
A huff of resignation left your lips. Arms crossed above your chest, you tilted your head in a way that said ‘Prove it’. Changbin didn’t stand down. Producing a marble out of his pocket, he stretched your hair tie as far as it would go and locked the target, taking in a deep breath and exhaling as he let go. The marble flew a few feet before dropping at an unimpressive, rather embarrassing distance, not even making it as far as the tree.
The shade of defeat suited quite awkwardly to his beefy body. The urge to iterate your triumph was nearly irresistible, but you settled for a cocky smirk that spelled out ‘I told you so’ as you held out an open palm. Lips curled in a grumpy grimace, Changbin gave you the stink eye as he relinquished your hair tie.
“Why are you looking at me like it’s my fault?” A gleeful laugh tinted with a noise of complaint left your lips at his expense, pushing him deeper into sulky mode.
“It is your fault.” He humphed. “Why do you roam around wearing cheap hair bands, huh? Spend money, buy branded ones.” He pursed his lips in a petulant pout, turning away from you.
“Oh, please. Why don’t you get me some yourself, then?” You muttered as you attempted to gather your hair into a bun - the braid was beyond salvaging at this point and you had too little dexterity to redo it the way your aunt did it for you.
“I might as well.” You heard him say faintly, still not facing you as he waited for the mortification to wash away.
“Wait, did you just concede to buying me a gift?” You popped your face right in front of his, taking him aback with this sudden invasion of personal space. “Who are you and what have you done with Changbin the cheapskate?” You poked him in the way that vexed him most, a reaction which brought you the purest joy; a repeated tap, tap, tap of your index finger on his upper arm, waiting for the delight of them bouncing back from the squishy skin. Only, this time came a surprise as they touched rather firm and shapely muscles. Since last Summer, you noted mutely, Changbin had grown a lot. It brought heat to your already flushed cheeks.
“Excuse me, Miss Imma-Buy-Cute-Things-That-I-Don’t-Need! I’m not buying you any gifts. It’s an investment. It’ll actually reap fruits next time,” He scoffed, before adding, “And I’m not a cheapskate!”
You were ready to contest that claim but your snarky arguments fizzled out on the tip of your tongue - a quick movement in the periphery of your vision distracted you.
What happened next was a blur.
Thwack!
Looking back at it, you weren’t able to tell a thing from another except the throbbing presence of a dull ache rippling throughout your head. It arrested your senses in a moment of numbness before you could even register what had conspired.
Did something just hit you?
Involuntarily, your arms tensed and your fists flew overhead a moment too late, clenched as you cowered to brace yourself from whatever could come next. Eyes squeezed shut, scrunching like tight screws till everything became darker and slower - you were blacking out.
“... Y/N.”
You were unthinking, immobile. The heavy thrumming in your eardrums was the delirious beating of your heart pounding louder and louder. It was a heavy veil over your senses making everything else seem dull.
“Y/N!”
A yell made its way over the chaos in your head. You couldn’t clearly register it, but the resonant ring of urgency clawed at you as you tried to surface from the haze you had been stupefied into.
“RUN!”
When your eyes snapped open, the only thing you could discern was the panic in Changbin’s pale face and frantic touch. You were still frozen, mirroring his frightful look until he was grabbing at you and the next moment, you found yourself being pulled along with him as he ran.
It was a mad, mad rush. Even as Changbin held your hand in a vice grip, it wasn’t easy to keep up with him, especially in your disoriented state. He managed to steer you clear of the many roots and heaps of fallen twigs and anything else that you could trip on. But when your now muddied skirt and hazy vision made you stumble more than once, it was only Changbin’s firm grasp that kept you upright and running. From what? You still didn’t know. But you trusted Changbin.
That wasn’t to say you weren’t curious; if anything, your state of bafflement fueled your curiosity. So, in a flash of daring, you looked over your shoulder. Squinting through your bleary sight, all you could make out was a brown blob hurtling towards you at a speed faster than you were running from it. A whimper caught in your throat as you turned, trying to fathom the vague shape you saw, and that’s when you realised -
“Shit!” You brought your free hand over your eyes, confirming your suspicion. “I dropped my glasses somewhere, Bin!” You managed to speak through your panting but Changbin didn’t respond - if he heard you, that is. “Bin, we need to go back!” You tugged at his hand, squeezing your fingers that were entwined in his. He just squeezed back harder. “CHANGBIN-”
“IT WAS THE MONKEY!” He let out a shaky shriek. “The monkey stole your glasses!”
What?
“Came out of nowhere!” He sounded afraid and panicky and, like a contagion, the same emotions began bubbling in your chest too. “It jumped on your head and took off with your glasses - Geez! You were there too, you saw it happen!”
You were stumped. “ ‘Took off’ - then why is it chasing us?”
“Ask the monkey that!” Changbin yelled. He looked behind and you did too, now more cautious than curious. The brown blob - the monkey - was gaining on you. Cursing under his breath, Changbin sped up and your entangled hands forced you to match his pace. “I looked at it and it snarled and it tried to pounce on me!”
“Oh, my.” You let out a shaky whimper. Fear and exertion doused you in a cold sweat. It pooled in the dip in your neck, eventually slipping in between your clammy fingers. Changbin’s grasp faltered. Anxiety doubled over you, but then he let go of your hand entirely before briskly grabbing your wrist in a bruising grip that lent a much needed sense of security.
You didn’t dare look back again, keeping your eyes trained ahead. An escape appeared in the form of a rusty turnstile, the only visible outlet in the brick wall that lined the perimeter of the orchard. The fencing wouldn’t be a hindrance to the monkey - it could as easily chase you outside the orchard too - but surely, the stick wielding guards flanking the dilapidated gate would offer protection.
“HEY!” Changbin was a loud and whiny kid of much repute (not the good kind) and as much as your parents would use him as a bad example, you’d always racked your mind for any argument that would work as a clapback in Changbin’s defence. “GUARDS!” Right now, a rush of admiration overcame you, followed by the urge to rub it in your parents’ faces that his ‘bad manners’ kept you safe. Oh, the satisfaction of having your parents reluctantly approve of your best friend - Hang on. Your parents could never know - should never know. They’d be furious.
And so would the guards, you realised as you neared the gate. The closer you got, the clearer you could make out their expressions. Initial confusion morphed into fury, and you almost considered running off in another direction when you saw them pick up their sticks before noticing that you didn’t fall in their line of sight. They were looking further. The monkey. Of course. Warding off monkeys was more of a priority than reprimanding thieving teens.
“Changbin!” You called, trying to convey the plan to him before you’d come within the guards’ earshot. “We have to run off before they return. They’ll tell on us!” What you’d gathered from your mother’s recollections was that everyone knew everyone in small towns, as if they had everybody’s entire biodata memorised like the back of their hands. Thank goodness you weren’t a local, else there’d be no hiding this from your parents. “Got it?” If it wasn’t for the barely audible grunt of acknowledgement, you would’ve thought he didn’t hear you.
The guards whizzed past you, charging at the monkey as they waved their sticks, yelling at them in their native tongue. You could only make out a few words, but you figured the majority of their speech translated into crass variants of “Get away!” When you heard the monkey screech in response, you shut your eyes. Changbin’s hold made sure you didn’t stop in your tracks, but a sudden turn he took made you flash open your eyes. “Bin, the exit-” You couldn’t even put words to your confusion before Changbin pulled you to a halt in front of the perimeter wall, further away from the turnstile. Without skipping a beat, his hands found purchase on your waist in a practised choreography. Except, this wasn’t in the shade of a deciduous canopy that would shelter your ministrations. This was out in the open - without any spectators, thankfully; the guards were still preoccupied chasing away the monkey - but still enough to make you feel sheepish, despite the predicament you were in.
“Swing your leg over it, quick!” He instructed once you were perched on the narrow wall. You made quick work of it. Seated with one leg on either side of the wall, you didn’t need Changbin to tell you to offer him your hand; it was the obvious next step. The wall was crumbly but there were no nooks for Changbin to place his feet into. His entire weight was yours to pull and as you did, a fall became inevitable.
“Ouch!” You exclaimed. Changbin whined on top of you. Crushed between him and the unyielding ground, you felt pain shoot through your spine before little stabs exploded all over. The wall was barely a foot taller than you, but with the way you fell headfirst and with Changbin’s weight propelling you, you had imagined nothing less than a cracked skull. Well, maybe that was too dramatic. But the lack of symptoms of a looming concussion was somehow more worrisome than the existing pain.
Changbin stirred, a string of grunts and groans limning the effort it took to heave himself off you. He barely rose before crumpling to the ground right next to you. “Shit.”
“Why did we just do this?” You groaned. The pain felt less severe now, but Changbin lying motionless next to you only fueled your urge to bask in the moment a bit longer.
“They won’t be able to find us here.” He forced out between heavy breaths.
“And here is…?”
“Good question.”
There was a pause. It lingered uncomfortably. It was the silence before the storm, and the storm came in the shape of your fist punching his arm. Changbin screamed bloody murder, making you retreat your hand to cover your ears, elbowing him nonetheless. “What the hell, Changbin?”
“OKAY, OKAY! I may not know where we are, but I made sure we’re safe, at least!”
“You call this safe? I nearly died!”
“Oh, shut up, you drama queen.” He made to pull his hand to himself and when you felt it slide from beneath your head, the absence of a headache started to make perfect sense.  A fuzzy feeling swaddled you and Changbin’s “Let’s get going” did a great job slicing through it. Having taken umbrage at your jab, he was determined to find your way home to prove his point. His point being… something that escaped you. But it was cute, his steely look, so you played along and followed his lead.
The sun was no longer at its zenith, hovering lower in the sky as it bathed the town in shades of pink and gold. People had emerged from their houses once again, the streets filling in as Changbin and you wandered like vagrants. You would ask someone for directions but ‘nani’s haveli’ was the only address you knew. Besides, Changbin was adamant that you didn’t need help, that he knew where he was going despite being caught reciting eeny meeny miny moe under his breath at the fork - he denied that allegation, insisting that he was actually reciting his evening prayers since he was “a man of principles”.
By the time you stumbled upon your home, your feet were aching and your kurta was awkwardly patchy with sweat, thinly veiled under your dupatta. The sun was barely peeking from the horizon when you greeted your mother, who settled for telling you off with a look of disdain that bounced off your thick skin as you headed for the shower. It was when you went to dry your towels on the terrace that the last rays of the sun were disappearing into the darkness, which brung with it weak flashes of dancing lights as the first swarm of fireflies trickled out of their retreats.
“Beautiful, aren’t they?” The haveli next door was separated by a low stone wall but in the convoluted ways of ancient architecture, the two buildings met at the top and merged into a single terrace, subtly demarcated by a badminton net. Peering through the nylon mesh, Changbin chirped, “They’ve just begun to come in. Do you know what that means?” His eyes gleamed. If it was merely the reflection of the fireflies or pure mischief ablaze, you didn’t know, nor did you care. All you cared for was the way it made your heart race, and the way you wanted this moment to go on forever, the way you wanted this summer to go on forever. “The night’s still young.”
And in those four words, you found your forever in the last moments you’d spent with your summer sweetheart.

“Jeonghan one shot”
Pairing: Yoon Jeonghan x female reader
Genre: fluff [desi setting]
Warnings: no warnings
Word count: 1.1 K
Author’s Note: I am back with another husband Jeonghan imagine, this was actually quite impulsive, and I wrote this at 1 am. I have no idea if this whole imagine made sense or not, but i hope you enjoy reading this small fluff. And i was writing while reading this song, somewhere I felt like this described how much Jeonghan loved her. AND IT’S NOT PROOFREAD
happy reading :)
I walked out of the bathroom and saw, Noor getting ready, more like wearing the red saree. Somewhere I was lost, inside her when she was fixing her saree, and her hair was done with a pretty bun, with her curtains bangs out and making her look so beautiful, as if I was smitten by her beauty. She was literally glowing.
The way her fingers were trying to fix her saree slowly; it reminded me of the day I first saw her in a saree, and she wore a red saree at that time as well. It wasn’t at our wedding, but it was at peheli rasoi. Considering we saw each other in marriage, and the look on her face, made me realize that there was some missing part in my life that I was searching for and I found it right infront of me. The way she looked at me through the flower curtain before signing and saying ‘qubool hai’ three times, was the first time I heard her voice and my heart told me how I would be hearing it for the rest of my life, how I would be waking up to this voice and ending my day with it.
I was still when she moved her hands to fix her pallu, I was still lost in her. She was trying to pin her pallu, but it wasn’t working. I walked towards her, when she looked so focused in her saree.
I held the pallu and she looked at me through the mirror, she looked taken aback, her eyes told me she didn’t expect me to be here. She was about to say something, “let me” and she nodded.
Once her pallu was pinned and she looked at the mirror, my heart almost skipped beat when our fingers touched, she was looking so breathtaking. How does she pull off to look this pretty every time. “and ho gaya yeh” (and it’s done)
“thank you”
“aapke liye kuch bhi” (anything for you) and the smile when she is flustered on her face was something that meant a lot to me. I saw her move her hands to pick up the chain, but I was fast to pick it up. How could I let her do everything when she looked so fine and pretty but mine?
I held her shoulder, and she looked so flustered when I put the chain around her neck, I could say she couldn’t say a single thing because she was very flustered. This was probably the first time I was helping her to get ready, it’s always her who gets ready even before I can admire her in the morning and sometimes I am so thankful for some events or festivals when I see her getting ready in the morning wearing saree or kurti-patiyala or sharara. I love the way she takes my breath away.
“aaj kya ho gaya, you’re helping me today?” (what happened to you today, you're helping me?) she smiled at me, I won’t lie when I say she looks the prettiest when she smiles.
“chain pehena raha hun aapko” I took a pause and told her what my heart wanted to say “Aur itni sundar jo lag rahi hain, thore hi aapko sab karne de sakta hun. Mujhe bhi thori aapki khubsurati ko niharne ka mauka den” she was flustered again. I picked her earrings which were on the dressing table, I helped her with them. Earrings just added lives to my life. If only words could help me describe how much she looked like mine.
I saw the kamarband and picked it up, she was surprised, “Yeh aap kya- I cut her off pulling her waist and then putting the kamarband around her waist. I was too focused on her.
Once I was done, it reminded me how she loved wearing payal and I would definitely want her to wear payal today, afterall she looked so beautiful and I could take my eyes off her “Stay here and give me a second” she nodded. I went to open the wardrobe where I kept the new payal I bought for her. I was waiting for the right time and I won’t get a better time than this.
I went to her and showed her the payal, she almost gasped, “Aapke liye laya tha” (bought this for you)
“Thank you” and her smile was worthless, even millions of diamonds wouldn’t be able to buy her smile, probably because her smile was worth my life.
I bent down and gestured her to keep her foot on my thigh, so that I could put the payal on her. Jab bhi woh payal pehen k chalti thi, mujhe lagta tha meri zindagi chal rahi hai aur mai apni zindagi k samne jhukne k liye bhi taiyaar hun
Once she gave me her feet and I put the payal around her, I got up and looked at her. Admiration was the first thing I could do and it felt surreal that she was mine. Then came love, and she was the perfect definition of love. It felt like my life got meaning ever since she came into my life, her presence was the reason why I was standing here and falling in love with her every second.
I was looking at her eyes and it felt like I was lost in her eyes, her eyes were telling me something with love, we don’t need words to confess or tell that we are falling in love, actions speak louder than words. “aapko payal pasand toh ai na?” she nodded and smiled, “thank you so much” I took a step closer to her and tugged her hair strands and couldn’t resist myself from saying “kitni sundar lag rahi hain aap” She looked at me and gave me a smile.
Oh my gosh. One look at her right now and I realized how much I love her, can she even tell how much I already love her?
God forbid me from falling this hard for her.
I gave her my smile subconsciously while I had her thoughts about how I fell in love with her the moment I saw her behind the flower curtains during our nikah. And how everything she does makes me fall in love with her over again
And in a blink I felt her lips on mine briefly. She ran away even before I could react, my fingers went to touch my lips where she kissed me; I was just standing there processing that she just kissed me like that and ran away even before I could kiss her back.
I ran out of the room, in the hope I would catch her before she could go downstairs, I noticed she was near the staircase and pulled her by her arm, “Where are you running away?” I leaned towards her and kissed her before she could say a single word. I pulled her closer by her waist, she couldn’t just steal my first kiss like that.
Once I let her go, I looked at her, she was way too flustered to speak a single word, so I decided to speak up “I know itni sundar hoke jaa rahi hain, par meri hi hoke wapas aana, meri jaan” and I kissed her once again.
Nothing could describe how much I love her.
