Finally, what most of you were probably waiting for: The ToBecky Dynamic change in the 2P AU (and frankly, the one aspect of this AU that I constantly think about because it’s just so fun)

As shown in Theodore’s character sheet, he’s afraid of WordGirl and has no romantic interest in her compared to the Original Series version. This also means that his relationship with Becky has changed as well. Tobey, although wanting to befriend Becky, knows she’s not a good person and that she is most definitely WordGirl. But even with that in mind, he doesn’t want to treat her any differently and hopes that his theory is miraculously proven wrong (even though we all know that it’s true).

On the other hand, WordGirl has… strong feelings for him. Not that she would ever admit to it. Because why would she? That would be seen as weakness. It’s not like she understands how she feels anyways. Emotions are difficult. That doesn’t stop her from giving him special treatment, however, as it’s very clear she doesn’t care in the slightest if she hurts a villain or enemy but won’t lay a single hand on Theodore.

I don’t have a comparison chart because frankly, I get really bored doing that chart. But I did draw a small comic of Becky seeing D2B for the first time like in the shorts.

2P!Prof. Steven Boxleitner was a scientist focused on the changes he could bring to Fair City no matter the cost or consequences. His professional demeanour made him a valuable asset to Fair City’s development. However, his lack of empathy made it difficult for others to bond with him. He was a picky eater from the start, but after the Squeaky incident, he finds himself wishing he could eat other foods that didn’t contain cheese despite the fact that his mouse brain needs it. What else, after he fused with Squeaky, he’s been feeling… remorse(?) for the things he’s done. And WordGirl… God, WordGirl, that poor girl. She just wanted help with her powers. And he treated her like nothing more than a lab rat. Or… mouse.

Prof. Steven Boxleitner in the 2P AU was a man who cared more about the results rather than the ethics of science. His lab mouse, Squeaky, bore the blunt of some minor experiments he carried out. That poor hungry mouse deserves better.

Okay, so, Tobeys mom forces him to make robots and stuff, does Becky know this? Is that what made her endeared to him in the first place or did she just get a crush on him randomly?

Yep. It isn’t too difficult for people to smell the bull crap from the ‘kind woman and loving supportive mother’ facade 2P!Claire puts up.

So yes, Becky does figure it out almost immediately once she meets Claire, how could she not when Theo looks at Claire with just as much fear as when he looks at WordGirl?

As for why Becky is interested in Theo, it’s a combination of things. Yes, Claire’s treatment is one of the factors why she cares for Theo — it reminds her of her own experience (especially with Steven Boxleitner). But really, Becky isn’t even aware she has any type of feelings for Theo. All she knows is that she cares, that he’s important to her in some way, and- well, that’s it.

But if I were to explain it (which I am), you can compare her attraction to Tobey’s from the Original Series — She thinks of him as her only worthy nemesis, the only person worth her time because he isn’t an idiot and he has potential. Combine that, and her admittedly shallow attraction to his looks.

However, her feelings began when she first meets Theo during “Play Date”. At first, she saw him as lesser than her. Weak. Pathetic. But then, he picked up TJ’s intentionally broken WordGirl figure and fixed it. It confused her, how despite everything — his fear of WordGirl and the pressure to keep building robots — he still thought that WordGirl should be treated kindly like anybody else. Even if he can’t always be for her.

“Funny how, after such a tragic accident, I can feel more human than I ever did before”

Sometimes, Theo doesn’t go home in fear of his mother being there. So, instead, he often makes up excuses that he’s working on robots with Dr. Two-Brains just to have her get off his back. It gives Theo time for leisure activities, even little naps; Theo trusts Dr. Two-Brains enough to nap on him. It’s a bit surreal for the scientist at times.

(Tried another brush and colouring technique this time!)

2P!Becky is a very “no nonsense” type of girl. She doesn’t quite understand social cues or jokes. She’s quite harsh and very self aware of it. She dislikes defining words, doing crosswords or essays, because they feel like a chore and are simply too easy for her or patronising. And as WordGirl, she doesn’t hold back on any punches. She hates Fair City and its people; they don’t trust her, they see her as a threat and a monster. An unwanted vigilante. She instills fear into the civilians and villains, as well as hatred and distrust.

Theodore McCallister III, aka Tobey, side by side with his WordGirl 2P AU design! (As you can tell, I was very lazy with the drawings above. But to be fair, when I first thought of the 2P AU, it was literally just a brain fart— The above doodles were the first ever doodles of the 2P AU concept)

2P!Theodore is a quiet boy who’s open to speak true to his feelings but is constantly interrupted by others because of his lack of confidence. Many of the people in Fair City calls him by “Tobey” to mock him, making it a nickname he heavily dislikes. Although being one of the most talented child engineers, Theodore doesn’t want to only build robots. He’s passionate about learning new things— like getting good at athletics and wilderness skills —but never being able to. His mother, who constantly keeps him inside to keep building his robots, is the reason why he is a villain despite his fear towards WordGirl. But it is very strange how WordGirl seems to be giving him special treatment in comparison to the other villains… but who knows, maybe Theo is just overthinking it.

Other Villains? Of course!

I just haven’t drawn them because I’m worried about not capturing the other villains well in my style (I’ve been trying! Won’t stop either! but I struggle envisioning how to draw the Learnerer while still keeping his Lightbulb body shape)

D2B and Tobey were easier to come up with their 2P alt personalities (somewhat) but I still struggle keeping up with my own rules for the 2P AU 💀 — Like I said before, a character should still have their abilities and knowledge but the way they behave + view things should be changed to be the opposite of the Original character.

And although it’s easier said on paper, and it can be easy sometimes, I’m then met with characters like Captain Tangent and I— bruh.

But! That being said, I do kind of have an idea for Mr. Big and Leslie. It needs more fleshing out but here are the basic differences:

Mr Big is doubtful of his own plans and always asks for Leslie’s input and advice. He overpays her on a daily and praises her for every little thing. He also HATES squishy bunnies and constantly tries to squeeze the one he has until it pops.

Meanwhile, Leslie is more expressive and open — at times too loud and emotional. She openly insults Mr. Big and barely does her job because she doesn’t care.

INFO: Theodore doesn’t go to school that much but when he does, he goes home by foot. However, almost every time he does, Becky tags along. She doesn’t say much, and her responses to Theo’s comments are always short and simple, but her company isn’t unwelcome. Though, Theodore often wonders why she tags along… But whatever. It’s nice to have someone around on the way back home.

[[Additional information: 2P!Becky was banned from the Woodview Elementary School Writing competition because every time she submitted an entry, it was always the same complaint letter. A very well written one. But still.]]

Yeah you’re definitely right about the loner thing. In the original series, she’s not “popular” but she definitely has a little bit of a reputation (as seen by the fact that she’s banned from the school writing competitions for winning every time, being the debate club president, being put to the task to decorate the gym for the school dance etc.) For the 2P AU, I believe it makes sense that characters keep their knowledge and accomplishments despite the opposite personality traits and beliefs. So, while Becky isn’t popular — doesn’t care for befriending her peers and content with others doing the same — she’s still the best student (before Victoria arrives of course)

This goes the same for WordGirl’s identity — The same line of people in the original show know/speculate she’s WordGirl, it’s just a matter of how they react that’s different. Tobey, well, he doesn’t accuse Becky because he doesn’t want to believe she’s WordGirl — even if, deep down, he knows she is. Becky, on the other hand…

Well, she wants to know if he’d still treat her the same if he found out the truth. Would he still be kind? Or would he run away? But, it never happens. Even when she doesn’t try to hide it, there’s always something that happens that prevents and contradicts the evidence. It’s like the world refuses to let him know the truth. Much to Becky’s disappointment.

For Scoops and Rose, they both were terrified of uncovering the truth and finding the evidence that Becky really is WordGirl. And when she challenges them to do it, to reveal her secret, they couldn’t help but get rid of the evidence out of fear.

When Violet finds out Becky is WordGirl, she’s ecstatic and happy to undermine Becky. Because that means WordGirl isn’t this scary intimidating untouchable figure, she’s just Becky Botsford. A little girl who hate-watches stupid princess cartoons with her on the weekends, and has an irrational fear of ponies, unicorns, and horses alike just like she does. And Becky… hated that Violet thought they were equals but no matter how much she tries to show Violet, the girl just seems to relish in Becky’s struggle for power.
