OH NEW LEVELS TO MY ROOK'S TRAUMA UNLOCKED

The reason Vico idolizes Luke, instead of say, Zevran is Luke was the survivor. His entire family was slaughtered, and he only survived by luck, and became a Grey Warden and a hero. So maybe there was a reason he survived.

So they want to be like him, and become a hero, to be worth the loss that surrounded them too.

And now it's sunk cost fallacy because they do want to go home, they miss their dads and their siblings, but they've come this far and want to do something that will make their dads proud of them, more proud of them then they are disappointed/upset about the whole "secretly did the joining and then ran away" thing. So they keep chasing that glory to be like "see! It was a good thing I did this!" and to tell themselves it was a good thing they lived.

ROOK QUESTIONS. 4 for Vico (how long were they with the wardens before they got forced to go on sabbatical), 18 and 26 also for Vico, 30 for both Vico and Elthorn (did any of these kids have a hope of not being rogues), and 37 for both of them as well.

4. How long have they been with their faction?

Vico has been with the Wardens uh, four years. They had their stupid moment around 20, did the worlds worst shot and fled north to try and be a hero.

How's that working for you buddy.

18. Their fondest childhood memory:

When they were about 9 and Elthorn finally caved and let them tag along after him when he went out to he alone for a bit, and he started talking to them about stuff. That Elthorn finally saw them as grown up and cool enough to talk to, and trusted them meant a lot.

26. Rook is in charge of the grocery list. What’s on it?

Vico cheats and copies Lucanis's homework (finds an old list) in order to appear responsible. However they buy too much of everything and end up adding several things to the list.

Dried meat and fruits, bread meant for traveling, food that keeps despite the group not really needing travel rations? Vico hoards food, and doesn't like feeling like they may not have enough.

30. What is Rook’s class? Did they choose it?

Okay just because they're both rogues. Listen. LISTEN. There's a mage in the Murder. Somewhere. There's a couple warriors too.

But nah these two are rogues, I almost made Vico a warrior but they wanna be their dads soooo bad

37. Does Rook ascribe to a faith?

After doing so much with Brennan's relationship with the chantry, I slacked on these two. I think they both believe in the Maker but aren't overly devout. Elthorn was curious about the elven pantheon but as rumors spread after Trespasser he was content with the Maker. Less muss and fuss.

Vico I think wants to be devout, and had a religious phase but fell out of it when they didn't feel a "connection". Because they more wanted to have a vision like aunt Leliana then actually worship a god. Whole, desperate to have a purpose thing. Yeah not, not chosen by God so kinda stopped but they remember a lot of the stuff they learned.

I have settled on Vico's personal goal being "be worthy of having survived the Crows" and the way to achieve that being "be a hero like my dad".

Problem is Vico's understanding of what made his dad the Hero of Fereldan and thinks it was the stuff like "killed the Archdemon" and "saved Vigil's Keep and the City of Amaranthine!" and not "had to make a hard choice about the next king of Orzamar" and "had to put one of his best friends on the throne and he was the only one that stayed" because they've heard stories of Morrigan and Lelianna and Wynne and Sten and... never really thought about how they've only met Alistair and Oghrin.

Just this kinda naive, "being a hero means doing incredible feats" not realizing what it really took to do all that.

And they're up against the Dread Wolf.

Back to Inquisition but I immediately adore Vico, it makes up for the awful Brennan import.
