See, I don't think it would bother him THAT much, because Mayuri is a master at finding things he's better at than others. HOWEVER.

Mayuri knows Urahara is prolific and his discoveries will continue to eclipse Mayuri's. So he swivels to say 'well, Kisuke Urahara is entirely unsuited to the Seireitei and his genius is tainted by his garish, mortal focus on making things appealing.'

So I don't think it would actually matter how accomplished the person he likes is, he would find something to bring them down a peg on ESPECIALLY if their expertise is in the same field as his.

Now, that being said, I don't think he would hate someone being smarter than him, he's just going to be annoying about it because at his core he's a huge show off who always needs to have an edge on someone or he throws a fit (silently or otherwise).

It's clear he appreciates competence in the people around him and those who he has the closest relationships with in canon are people with a fuck ton of know how and sway.

Mayuri with a fellow braggart would be so insufferable for everyone around them but I'm sure they'd have fun with it (I fucking would, I'd PAY to see that shit). And someone who pretends they're dumb would absolutely piss him off the most because he fucking KNOWS they're not he fucking KNOWS that why are they acting like they're stupid, why even bother pretending when he KNO--.

But mostly I think he would be good with it, because he'd get to pull off a complicated dissection with someone and then kiss that person over a purposefully mangled body like he should be so lucky!
