I’ve typically loved the Winter Games for the triumph. Nordic skiers who become national heroes after tying for first on a broken pole. Jamaican bobsledders and the Miracle on Ice, when the youthful U.S. hockey team came out of nowhere in 1980 to defeat the best teams in the world. Maybe the euphoria around those moments was a mirage too, distracting us from real problems. It was thrilling anyway. It also feels over.
The athletic moments that capture our collective attention these days are quite different. Many of them reflect a growing acceptance of limitations in our lives. We celebrated Simone Biles last summer in Tokyo for prioritizing her safety and bowing out, and shared the relief on Friday of the gold medal favorite Mikaela Shiffrin for finishing in ninth place after struggling on her first two forays on the ski slopes.
And there was applause for the 35-year-old snowboarding champion Shaun White, who was trying for a fourth and final gold but ended up expressing his joy at being usurped by talented younger riders: “They’ve been on my heels every step of the way, and to see them finally surpass me is, I think deep down, what I always wanted,” he told reporters through laughter and tears.
All this is also inspiration — but a new kind, befitting this strange moment. It’s not the familiar underdog success story, which flips every loss into a story of ultimate gain, or turns every setback into a narrative of empowerment and success. Athletes are now inspiring us by showing us their humanity, by no longer forcing themselves to endure the untenable. The stories we’ll remember from the past two Olympics will not be about shattering limits, but accepting them.

My (unentered) WYOG 2024 Medal Design
This is my digital design of an Olympic medal, specifically a Winter Youth Olympic medal.
I entered it for the medal design competition for the next year’s games in Gangwon and today they revealed the winning designs.
Sadly it didn’t win, but I’m more so upset by the fact that I didn’t get my entry through in time 😥 That’s my fault; I should’ve completed it sooner.
But it’s alright, might try for the next competition 🌟
+Dante Akita Uwai’s winning design “a sparkling future” looks far more ornate and artistic =) Congratulations to him & his emasculate medal!!
++My design write up below ⤵️ Medal Entry Design: The Glowing Spirit of Winter Fun
“The design of this medal is meant to express the dynamic, jovial spirit that grows and glows in a fun winter landscape. It is set in the backdrop of an array of trees that coalesce to create a silhouette of a mountain peak, signifying growth and the goal of reaching higher. At the bottom are two figures playing together, which by combining the dynamically curved elements and the round heads creates an image of a smiling face. The rays of sunlight help radiate this happy spirit of activity from the Olympians as they play, learn and grow together at the Winter Olympics.”

Quick news blog. Princess Kate is noncancerous. Prince Harry, living in the UK, posted on Truth Social “Powerfulnnz” hoping it’d distract, not realizing he only gets one covfefe. Oh. And David Foster, the record producer, who wrote songs for Celine Dion, Chicago, Michael Jackson, and Whitney Houston has got to be telling Tom: “this fucking guy.”
I googled your Megrez jewelry in looping downtime. Besides the obedient tiaras, she’s worn symbolic necklaces engraved with the initials H and A. I hear you ask: Harry and firstborn? It’s a straightforward threat to Tom with baubles and, for me, an anatomy no-no. Kismet couple.
TEAM H&M: Glad you could join us. I quite understand your backsies flipsies and the highly pretentious “brand” act in the press, paternally speaking. I also get that her co-signed misogyny generates revenue for you. Your client is reinventing herself as a gracious homemaker with her devoted British prince, despite the overseas prince being high-tech famous in sexual assaulting pedophilic circles. I’ll make it clearer to you. Her Hallmark movie, When Sparks Fly, has a co-star: Hank Lyons. Aware of his marital rape clause, she is unified next to diapers; exploited her wheelchaired sister to push Harry’s agenda; and is covered in chokers and an NDA muzzle.
The flipping is off-kilter and widdle old.
Women know she’s not a role model and are hurting themselves.
Girls like Lucy-Bleu Knight, daughter of Meegan Hodges.
I want a public divorce first.
A YouTube video titled: Prince Harry (funny roast) Royal Variety Performance. 2015. I say with confidence that it is a suited excuse for Prince Rape to point heavenward at mark 4:26 and to grin at Risky Business, theft, and razors.
Oksana Shachko—Ukrainian artist and activist; feminist and founder of protest group, Femen. The group stood up to rape and the sexual exploitation of Ukrainian women and demanded the release of political prisoners. Her activism paved the way for the term, Sextremism. A painting prodigy, she moved to Paris. July 23, 2018, two months after your wedding, she hung herself.
Ellie Soutter—British snowboarder. She won a Bronze Medal representing Great Britain at the 2017 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in the snowboard cross. On her 18th birthday, she committed suicide in Les Gets, Haute-Savoie, France. Two months after your wedding.
Maggy Biskupski—French police officer and president of Mobilisation des policiers en colère. Or, the Angry Police Movement. At 36, she focused on anti-cop hate and eradicating cases of internal suicides. Six months after your botched wedding, she shot herself with her service weapon in Carrières-sous-Poissy, France.
Desmond Daniel Amofah—online as Etika; YouTuber and live streamer, posted videos on gaming and his reactions to games and trailers for Super Smash Bros. 1 million subscribers. His Insta page, 9999999999999999999, has over 300K followers. He went missing June 19, 2019, almost exactly one year to your wedding; his body was pulled from the East River NYC; suicide.
Ekaterina Dmitriyevna Alexandrovskaya—Russian-Australian skater; 2018 US International Figure Skating Classic Bronze Medalist and a two-time Australian national champion. Her skating partner was Harley Windsor. July 18, 2020, she jumped out of the 6th floor of her Moscow apt. At 20 years old. Her suicide note said: Lyublyu. Love you, in Russian. Flip it.
Olivia Rose Podmore—NZ racing cyclist; competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She committed suicide on August 9, 2021. Her last social media post was: “When you don’t meet society’s expectations such as owning a house, marriage, kids, all because you’re trying to give everything to your sport is unlike any other.”
Books published at the same time as your imitation wedding: The Cruel Prince by Holly Black, A Spark of Light by Jodi Picoult, and rising star, Michelle Obama, with her book, Becoming.
But wait. Spain for a royal tour? No. That’s my Felipe VI. He’s a lowly towering 6’6 King and Captain General. Watching closely, through Leonor, his formidable daughter’s press.
Divorce.

Sport Venue & Event Management Entry 3
Olympic Games legacy
The Olympic Games is an event with grandeur like no other. The Olympic Games legacy of a country hosting the event can be measured by the economic effects of the budgeting, and construction within a city. Lack of consideration in legacy planning when planning on hosting an Olympic Games can lead to the “white elephant phenomenon” (Kobe et al., 2021). This occurs when the development and construction of venues in preparation for the mega-event in a city are no longer utilised or used frequently enough due to a lack of future planning. These venues can then become visually unappealing and run down. Dowling and Harris (2022) suggest research supports the idea that the Olympic Games legacy spruiked by politicians when pitching the event to the public, is rarely valid. They go on to explain there is evidence the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics goal to ‘inspire a generation’ by increasing youth participation in sports failed. These results can vary across each Olympic Games however there has been an increasing negative sentiment amongst sections of the public around the adverse legacy left on host cities after the Olympics.
There can also be positive effects of the Olympic Movement before, during and well after the Olympic Games are held in a city, with the benefits being long-term (Olympics, 2024). Economic benefits of hosting an Olympic Games can include a region and country developing: their global profile; the business sector; career opportunities; diplomatic relations; the tourism and events industry; and the knowledge and skills of their workforce. Scheu et al. (2021) explain research into the legacy of the Olympic Games has mainly been done on the Summer rather than Winter Olympic Games with a focus on beliefs and behaviours, and the urban development facet of legacy.
youtube
Muller et al. (2021) comparison of the 16 Olympic Games between 1992 and 2020 found the sustainability of the event has declined over time however, overall the event still has a medium level of sustainability with the cost of hosting a main issue. Within the Legacy Strategic Approach Moving Forward document put together by the International Olympic Committee, they outline key Sustainable Development Goals they aim to contribute to (International Olympic Committee, 20217). The reasoning behind legacy being so important to the Olympic Movement is it supports the Olympic Movements vision of building a better world through sport. Harmonious development of humankind and stimulating peaceful society can be a by-product of the service of sport at the Olympic level.

Entry 4 - SVAEM
Topic 3 - Sport event bid analysis for a global sport.
Football or soccer is the largest sport in the world. With billions of passionate fans, various leagues and tournaments have been created to display the best players. A World Cup is one of the more significant sporting events on the calendar (Yu & Wang, 2015). World Cups are held at different locations. Meaning nations and cities must bid to host the event. Which essentially means they need to prove reasons as to why they should deserve to hold the games (Hautbois et al., 2012). Mass planning goes into the creation of a bid document (Byun et al., 2020). This entry will analyse Australia and New Zealand’s bid to host the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
Firstly, the document entails bulk information. With 188 pages of content, this allows the reader to understand the destination exceedingly strongly. Each section that requires major detail has got it. Secondly, the layout and formation of the document is wonderful. It is easy on the eye and nice to look at. The bid begins with a well-written letter from the Football Federation Presidents of AUS and NZ. Highlighting the friendliness and warmness of the countries.
The general importance put on women’s football is amazing. Yes, it is to host the World Cup, but this document also stresses how and why women’s football deserves this level of attention and respect very well. The total investment by the countries through facilities fully illustrate how seriously they are taking this bid. With roughly one hundred training sites getting a full upgrade in anticipation of the tournament.
Below is an eight-minute video presenting the bid in video format.
youtube
The quantity of stadiums offered is a key strength of the bid. With thirteen brilliant different stadiums to hold matches, this gives the bid a real advantage over other bids. So too, a lengthy list of hotels and accommodation is provided for visiting nations. Which is always an important element. It’s well thought out and clearly mass effort has gone into creating the bid. Finally, section twelve which includes safety and security of the event covers all the necessary elements extremely well. Highlighting the importance of making all involved feel safe and secure within the country.
Below is one more image which encompasses the
Promotional Advertisement for the bid (from Optus Sport, 2023)
Overall, the bid is fantastic and covers all sections needed to host a World Cup. From the vision and strategy to the stadiums and accommodation, it is almost a perfect bid.

not op but just checking! i thought the winter olympics games were beijing 2022, pyeongchang 2018, and sochi 2014? the gangwon 2024 winter olympics was the youth olympics! to my knowledge, the summer and winter olympics alternate every 2 years.
there are some parts of the group setting that are highly fictionalized for convenience and simplicity. so that winter event athletes aren't too disconnected from plots having to do with preparation and participation in the olympics, the summer and winter olympics occur in the same year here. to keep things recent and relevant, the winter youth olympic games in gangwon has been reimagined as the latest winter olympics. if you want to include the youth olympic games in your backstory, you can imagine that the summer and winter youth olympic games both started in 2009 and take place the year before the olympics. (eg: 2009 - summer in singapore, winter in innsbruck; 2013 - summer in nanjing, winter in lillehammer; 2017 - summer in buenos aires, winter in argentina.) i hope this wasn't confusing and helps clear things up!
