Bollywood to depict Indian air strikes on Pakistan over Kashmir bombing
Vivek Oberoi movie will tell true story of reprisals after February attack in which 40 Indian troops were killed
Bollywood is to make a movie based on the true story of Indian air strikes on Pakistan this year, its producer said, the latest patriotic film to hit the silver screen.
The 26 February attack took place after a suicide bombing claimed by a militant group based in Pakistan killed 40 Indian troops on 14 February in Indian-controlled Kashmir.
Pakistan then carried out its own raid over the de-facto border in Kashmir, before the two nuclear-armed countries stepped back from the brink of another conflict.
India said that in the raid, its aircraft successfully attacked a training camp at Balakot and killed a very large number of terrorists, but doubts have been raised about its efficacy.
At the time, Imran Khan, the Pakistani prime minister, said Indias claim that it had hit the Balakot camp was a self-serving, reckless and fictitious claim.
The new movie is set to be produced by Vivek Oberoi, who starred in a flattering biopic of prime minister Narendra Modi, the release of which was delayed so as not to interfere with this years election.
It will also tell the story of handlebar-moustached Abhinandan Varthaman, an Indian pilot who was shot down in the raid and then handed over by Pakistan, becoming a national hero.
This film is a powerful tool to underline the achievements of brave officers like Wing Commander Abhinandan, who went behind the enemy lines and did what makes every Indian proud of them, Oberoi was quoted as saying by Indian media.
Kashmir has been divided between India and Pakistan since the end of British colonial rule in 1947. Both claim the Himalayan territory in full and have fought two wars over it.
Earlier this month India stripped its part of the regions autonomy, sending tens of thousands of extra troops and imposing a lockdown and a communications blackout that on Friday entered its 19th day.

The video tweeted by India Today journalist Abhishek Bhalla is captioned, "Iqbal Singh was driving one of the vehicles in the CRPF convoy attacked on Feb 14 by a suicide bomber. He lost 40 colleagues but he hasn’t lost his sense of compassion. Feeding a disabled boy in Srinagar like his own kid. This is true love to mankind."
Iqbal Singh was one of the drivers who was in the 70-vehicle CRPF convoy that was attacked by a Jaish-e-Mohammad suicide bomber on February 14, 2019. Iqbal Singh lost 40 of his colleagues that day. But that hasn't made him turn away from humanity and compassion. In the video, Iqbal is seen feeding a physically challenged boy with his own hands.
In another tweet by Abhishek Bhalla, that is captioned, "Compassion is another form of valour for those in uniform in an otherwise hostile environment. The likes of Iqbal Singh always demonstrate this. He has been awarded with DGs commendation for his humane act #Kashmir," we can hear Iqbal Singh talking about the incident.
The army officer says that the incident happened yesterday (May 13, 2019). He says, "Humare batallion ki do companiya Safakatal main tainat thi. Downtown area mein. Duty ke doran, dopahr ko humara khana aaya. Ek bache ne mereko ishara kiya ki khana khana hai. Maine usko khana diya aur dekha ki woh bachcha kha nahi paa raha hai."
He adds, "Aur dekha ki bachche ke haath aise thay jaise paralysis ho. To maine usse khaana khilaya. Aur khaana khilate samay kisine woh video vaid kar li. Mereko nai pata kis ne ki. CRPF hamesha awam ki seva ke liye tayyar hai. Kisi bhi din, 24 ghante. Jai Hind."

Pak PM Imran criticises New Delhi over US magazine’s report on F16, says truth always prevails
Islamabad: Pakistan Key Minister Imran Khan on Saturday accused the BJP of “whipping up war hysteria”, expressing its false declare of downing a Pakistani F-16 has “backfired”, days soon after a leading American journal claimed that none of the US-made fighter jets of the PAF ended up lacking.
Washington-based Foreign Plan journal described on Thursday that American personnel lately counted the Pakistan Air Pressure (PAF) F-16s and observed none of the planes lacking.
It quoted two senior US defence officials with direct information of the scenario.
The Indian Air Power, on the other hand, stuck to its stand on Friday, expressing that it experienced conclusive proof of shooting down a PAF F-16 on February 27.
Reacting to the Foreign Policy report, Primary Minister Khan took to Twitter to criticise the ruling Bharatiya Janata Bash (BJP).
“The reality often prevails and is constantly the most effective plan. BJP’s attempt to gain elections by way of whipping up war hysteria and fake promises of downing a Pak F-16 has backfired with US Defence officials also confirming that no F-16 was missing from Pakistan’s fleet,” he stated in a tweet.
The Indian Air Pressure on February 28 shown items of the AMRAAM missile, fired by a Pakistani F-16, as evidence to “conclusively” verify that Pakistan deployed US-produced F-16 fighter jets through an aerial raid concentrating on Indian armed forces installations in Kashmir.
Pakistan has denied that a single of its planes had been downed by the IAF.
According to the magazine, Pakistan invited the US to physically rely its F-16 planes immediately after the incident as section of an end-person settlement signed when the overseas army sale was finalised.
“The conclusions straight contradict the account of Indian Air Force officials, who said that Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman managed to shoot down a Pakistani F-16 prior to his personal plane was downed by a Pakistani missile,” the report claimed.
Lara Seligman of the journal afterwards updated the story, saying “the F-16s Pakistan bought from Jordan have also been bundled in the depend and even 3rd-celebration transfers of US equipment should go as a result of the US government”.
Reacting to the report, the IAF asserted that it experienced shot down an F-16 aircraft of the PAF on February 27 through aerial overcome.
In a statement in New Delhi, the IAF claimed, “during the aerial engagement, a person MiG 21 Bison of the IAF shot down an F-16 in Nowshera sector.”
IAF resources also explained it has conclusive “circumstantial evidence” including wireless intercepts, signals and graphic captures from airborne warning and manage procedure (AWACS) and digital signatures to conclude that the F-16 jet was shot down throughout the aerial fight.
On Friday, the Pakistani navy named on India to “speak the truth” about the “actual losses”. PTI

On February 14th, a militant from the Pakistani terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammad drove into a CRPF base in Pulwama, Kashmir, killing 40 people, in what has been touted as the worst terrorist attack since 2008. It triggered violent reactions from both India and Pakistan, with India retaliating by crossing the Line Of Control for the first time since ceasefire was declared in an airstrike. Pakistan responded to this by crossing the LoC themselves, and, in a scuffle, shooting down an Indian aircraft and capturing Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. Following the Pulwama attack, innocent Kashmiris were assaulted on the streets, in a total breakdown of law.
Kashmir has been a source of conflict between India and Pakistan since the partition, with numerous atrocities committed by both sides. The Indian army has, in particular, been accused of numerous human rights violations in its treatment of Kashmiri citizens, especially the muslims. This has, in turn, triggered mass militancy among the muslims of Kashmir, many of whom have turned to militant Pakistani organisations to provide aid and training in their fight against the Indian army. Many of these muslims are in favour of an independent or Pakistani Kashmir. However, the fate of Hindu minorities in Kashmir has not been much different, most of whom have been driven out through violence by Islamic fundamentalist organisations.
In the Golden Legend, Imran’s story is the story of thousands of disillusioned Kashmiris who have turned to violence and militancy to resist the Indian army. However, Nadeem Aslam asks, at what cost? Imran’s experiences in the guerilla training camp near Zamana help show that the vision of Kashmir that is enforced on these militants is not necessarily a vision that is peaceful or free of conflict, but rather, one where Islamic fundamentalism rules. The questions this novel raises, while they have always been relevant, have never been more poignant, given the situation that both countries now find themselves in.
In India, Kashmir has always been seen as an ‘integral part of India’ and has been fought for vociferously. In 2016, Kanhaiya Kumar and Umar Khalid of Jawaharlal Nehru University were arrested on charges of sedition for supporting Kashmir’s claim to independence, and were then assaulted numerous times, and abused on national television. In the Golden Legend, one of the officials from the Indian army, on entering a village, announces: ‘We Indians care about Kashmir’s land, not Kashmir’s people.’ This is reflective of the attitudes of most Indians.
To find out more about this, we spoke to a few muslims in Pune and asked them their opinions on the conflict between India and Pakistan and its resolvement. Most of them preferred a peaceful resolution of the conflict, with no lives being put at stake. They believed that both countries ought to cooperate to resolve this conflict as peacefully as possible. Only a minority agreed that it was important for India to send across a violent message. However, everybody agreed that Kashmir belonged to India.
