❝ well , i don’t have much competition here .❞
(Edgar & William)
Tumblr media
"Well, I would like to think not. It is your farm, after all." William still wasn't sure why exactly he'd agreed to come along. Most of it was chalked up to curiosity, but, there was a small part that wondered if there was really something to be gained from visiting. Especially, when it came to his memories. "You run this with your sister, though. Yes? I imagine she's the popular one? Sometimes its a woman's touch that makes a house more a home." He glanced at the other, awaiting their reaction.

❛ It’s just like a sleepover — we should order pizza , make cosmos ! ❜ (Edgar & William)
Tumblr media
"It's not like a sleepover." William grumbled, unwilling to even pretend he'd had a mere second of fun in the past several weeks he'd been stuck at the Farm. Though he had regained some of his strength and could sit up and care for himself slightly better, he was still tethered to his bed by a nasal cannula and saline drip. "I do wish you'd keep that optimism of yours in check. It grows wearisome." He'd been sketching lightly in a small notebook, pencil lead smudged all over the side of his hand as his lack of coordination made his efforts more clumsy than he'd like. "What do you think of this?" he moved his hand away enough for Edgar to come and look at what was essentially an unintelligible smudge that had rabbit ears poking out the very top. "I think I could implement these when I get back."

Care, sender takes care of receiver when they're sick. (Edgar & William)
Tumblr media
"Why?" William gruffed, his voice strained from not having spoken in a long time. The last few days had been little more than a blur of lights and shapes as he'd drifted in and out of consciousness. However, Edgar's voice was one he was sure he'd heard on multiple occasions. Talking to strangers, talking to his family, and even talking to him, even if he couldn't remember what exactly was said. His voice was present in almost all of his dreamlike memories. "Why are you helping so much?" he pressed himself to speak more, trying to clarify. "Why did you save me?" he voice cracked, turning to more of a pathetic whimper as his confusion and pain got the better of him. He had no proof it was Edgar himself who had found him or even made the conscious effort to try to resuscitate him. But, the last place he remembered being was The Farm, to which Edgar was the doting owner. If he had to guess who'd made the choices, especially given his involvement ever since, he was the right place to start.

"Any chance you let me buy you an “I’m sorry” drink?" (Edgar & William)
Tumblr media
"That's a new one." William bit his lower lip, brows furrowed, looking over to the other waiting to hear what he had to say. "You're sorry for what exactly?" his mind was racing with all the cruel and unusual ways things could have gone wrong either intentionally or accidentally. He'd never trusted Edgar fully to begin with. So, why did the chance he was about to betray him bother him so much? "The drink can come after. Explanations first, please."

To: Edgar (@lcvenderhcze)
Location: The Farm
Tumblr media
"You'll have to forgive my hanging around, I didn't intend for it to look quite so desperate. I called by before, but, you were otherwise unavailable." Getting hold of Edgar had been a lot more tricky than he'd given credit to. Usually, he couldn't seem to shake the man. "But, I wanted you to be the first to see what I've created." He set upon the table between them a large box, about the size of a lap dog. "This is my personal model, so, it's smaller than standard and the parts are cheaper, so, keep that in mind." he opened the box slowly, unveiling the completed form of Fortified Foxy. "I finished it. And, just in time too."

“With great power…comes great need to take a nap. Wake me up later.”
(Edgar & William)
Tumblr media
"I supposed you wouldn't be able to handle the late nights." He rolled his eyes and sighed. He wasn't sure why he'd even invited Edgar to his workshop in the first place. "If you must sleep, you can use my office chair. But, put your coat over it. I don't want you sweating on it." He was very particular about his workshop. Everything had to be his. It was a territorial thing. "I'm going to keep working on Foxy. There's something unusual about the way the microphone is connected. I won't be able to sleep, I'll just keep thinking about it."

"That nurse has my dog." William gruffed out, pointing out beyond the doors of his room. "You know the one. The one that doesn't stop talking. The one that's so....touchy. I saw her late last night, with my Foxy." He was clearly irate, not wanting to know hows or whys, just wanting results. "I need her back. My dog. The girl...well, I don't think she needs to be working for you anymore. If you're willing to hand her to me, I can think of a few uses for her. Teach her a few lessons about keeping her hands to herself, for one."

"There's a lot of use for a man who can wield the balance of life and death. For better or worse, of course." He thought of his skills no further than for what was of use to him, and so, given his current situation, his opinion of it all was fairly cemented. "Life has a way of surprising us, doesn't it? People have a way of surprising us too, though, that's very rarely a good thing. Did I think my daughter would grow up to be the way she is? No, far from it. But, we can only play with the hands we're dealt." He shrugged, despite the other's optimism, he didn't feel he had much to be optimistic about in his life. Beyond his machines, everything else was continuing to disappoint him.

"A FEW YEARS AGO, I WOULDN'T HAVE SAID THAT, BUT.. YES, I AGREE, AS WELL. i do like what i do. it's proven to be quite useful so far." with what pederson had been attempting to do to their family? to cecilia? it had indeed. he didn't want to ever be in a position where he could not help her. he really did not. "i didn't see it coming. i didn't even know her, because her father made sure to isolate her from the rest of our family, but.. now, she's become more important than i ever saw happening, so.. there may be hope for you just yet, old friend." the other deserved that much coming from him, that was for sure. "thank you, still."

"Education is a double edged sword." he was willing to meet the idea halfway. "It all depends on what you are educated in and what you can practically do with it. I, for one, am grateful you're a doctor, at least." Had Edgar not known how to rescue him, there was no certainty that he'd have otherwise survived. If someone's life had taken a path that ultimately lead them to advance William's, then, he considered their path one worth walking, regardless of how they felt about it. "You're lucky to have someone you trust quite so deeply. I can't say I have the same. Perhaps someday, though, time is becoming less and less on my side." He sighed gently as he called him a poet, too tired to laugh. "No, no. Just passing on old wisdom. I won't take any credit for that."
@lcvenderhcze
Tumblr media
"PERHAPS NOT. AS SOMEONE WHO GREW UP IN A HOUSE FULL OF DOCTORS AND ENDED UP BECOMING ONE BECAUSE OF HIS FAMILY'S INFLUENCE? I CAN TELL YOU THAT EDUCATION MEANS A LOT." well, the influence that his family had on him hadn't always been the good type and to this day, he didn't think that he'd forgive his father for what he had done and said anytime soon and.. well, there was that. right? "oh, i know she is. i trust her completely on that and all matters. i'd trust her with my life if i had to." edgar nodded, grinning from ear to ear. "you are quite the poet, my friend?"

"Books, manuals, it's all much better than the rot they force into our children's eyes from the second they can open them. Is it any wonder they turn out the way they do?" William hadn't gotten to experience much by way of television when growing up. His family were late to even own one and his mother hated him far too much to allow him to spend time resting in her company. He spent his spare time working alongside his father, woodworking in almost complete silence. Those were his positive childhood memories. Woodworking and passive company. "I'm glad you do. See to it that they're prepared to take things from your hands when the time comes. I advanced the path of my father, I hope Vanessa will do the same." he looked around the room for a brief moment, as if looking for her. As if there was a chance she might be there if only he wanted it badly enough. "You'll make things right. As long as you believe you will. These things take time, unfortunately. As I will return to my joys, you too will return to yours. All things pass. They may pass with great pain and complaining, but, they will pass."

@lcvenderhcze
"HM. SUPPOSE THAT WE HAVE THAT IN COMMON, don't we? nothing as good as a good book." he supposed that he had not seen the hype for the tv ever since pederson had take over the major new stations in town, because.. well, he twisted and turned everything in his to his side and right now? that was not something that he would be forgetting or forgiving anytime soon. no. he'd kill him, one day. he'd kill him and he'd make sure that he paid and.. well, he'd do it for cecilia. no matter what. he would. she had been through too much at the hands of that monster and he'd keep her safe. he would. "i have someone that i want to carry on my work. for some time now. that hasn't changed. i can't imagine leaving it to anyone but her. i don't need to have any children for that. she.. well, she might not be my daughter by blood but she may as well be. we couldn't be more alike." was that the truth? yes, he had a feeling that he was. he already knew who he wanted to leave his work to and that would not be changing anytime soon. if ever. "not really. you're not dying on my watch, fear not," laughing. "but... i guess that.. we have a lot in common?" nodding a little bit. "i will. i just.. have to make things right between us." @springbandit

"Save your energy, I'm not much a television man. Much too noisy, rots one's brain from the outside in." William's hobby, of course, was tinkering with his beloved mechanical animals. However, beyond that he was a fan of reading and occasionally listening to the radio. However, it all had to be to his very specific likings. Anything outside of his control only served to frustrate him. "I believe if you want it badly enough, you'll find a way to make it happen." he gave a small laugh, "A man such as yourself ought to keep someone around to carry on your work. You can't live forever." He certainly felt a lot less invincible at the moment, that was for certain. Though, it didn't make him anymore sentimental to his family. It only further brought his attention to their lack of visitation. "I never realised you were such a charitable sort, Edgar. Though, that does make me curious as to why you wish to befriend me quite so much. Is my case truly that desperate?" he smiled slyly, hoping he was aware he wasn't truly thinking so and wouldn't like to hear a serious answer lest it muddle his own self image. "It's all very well saying all of this to me, but, there's precious little I can do about it. I think you ought to tell her how you feel. Put it in writing, that way she can remember it when you're not there."

".... oh, no. NO ONE DIES OF BOREDOM in my house. especially not a good friend of mine. if i have to send in a tv so you can keep up with the two's latest drama? then.. that is precisely what i will do." because lord knew that there was a lot of that and a lot of drama recently and.. well, edgar hated just how it seemed that his family was involved on most of it. it had never been what he had wanted for them. he had just wanted them to be okay and.. the fact that it had not happened? yes, he did hate it. he DID. "the chance never presented itself, i suppose, and seeing as my wife and i have long gone on different paths.. perhaps it never will again," was that something that he had once regretted? yes. now? well, he wasn't that sure that he did, was he? not at all. "and that is perhaps because i'm an outcast myself. and i didn't have anyone to make it better for me, so... if i can do it for someone else? THEN I WILL." very, very true and.. no, he didn't see that changing anytime soon. "and the truth is.. wel, my niece is the closest thing i've ever gotten to having a daughter. she's a lot like me and.. i love her. i'd do anything for her, even die. i think that's enough for me. she's my family and .. well, that's all i need." @springbandit

"It would be a waste to make it this far just to die of boredom. I doubt you'd want that on your records." he smiled, finding a silent appreciation for Edgar's ability to keep things from getting too grim. His injection of humour was a welcome one in times like this. "Why don't you just have children of your own, Edgar? I must ask." He hoped he wasn't going to be met with a tale of great loss or tragedy, but his curiosities overtook him. "You always want to look after people and you've the financial means to sire your own nation. Why do you pluck at other's outcasts?" Perhaps William saw more value in direct bloodline, his greatness coming from his intelligence which was something one had to pass down rather than teach. But, nevertheless, the other's want to take in stragglers puzzled him. "If you love her as much as you proclaim to, I think she'll come round in time. It would be hard to ignore your efforts, after all you're already housing her, feeding her and keeping her safe, are you not? Surely, for those alone she must be thankful?"

"I WILL BE SURE TO SEND SOMEONE IN, THEN. someone who will not bore you to death.. put maybe not so intended?" was edgar messing around with him? yes, he was and.. right now, he didn't see that changing anytime soon. no. was he looking to have one reason to smile these days? yes, he supposed that he was and.. he supposed that was also why he was here. not to smile per say, but.. because.. he needed a distraction? maybe. just maybe. "i suppose so but i made the mistake, when the last thing that i wanted was to become like her father. i hate it." burying his face in his hands. would he do.. close to anything at this point to be able to make things right? yes, yes. perhaps he would. "she doesn't particularly want to see me, that's why. and she did aomething reckless and dangerous just yesterday and i want to be angry but i can't. not when she did it for love." actually chuckling. "and where would you go in that condition?" @springbandit

"Your farm will be protected. I have no doubt about that." Even if the other had been an engineer, William would still have considered his own skills to be above the others. If he wanted something done correctly, it was only himself he truly trusted. "Finn Pederson? I don't recognise him." was all he could offer. He knew several men in the industry and he was silently grateful he wasn't going to have to cut contact with any of them to appease his new acquaintance. "But, I'll take your request very seriously." He made a mental note, knowing it was a good idea to be wary of people who might not have his best interests in mind. "Of course I do. I just don't wish to have to clean up. It's always the worst part. I much prefer the show."

"SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN. AND WELL, AS LONG AS MY FARM IS PROTECTED.. I DON'T PARTICULARLY CARE ABOUT THE SPECIFICS. i'm not that much of an engineer." nor had he ever been and no, he didn't particularly care for it. he was a doctor first and foremost and always had been and yes, that was what he cared about. what he wanted to do. being a doctor.. it was who he was. "finn pederson. he's a maniac disguised as a doctor. he murdered my sister - his wife. if one of your inventions ended up in his hands? we'd all suffer for it." true. oh, that was interesting to hear. "so.. you do not want to see him dead?" @springbandit

"Do have faith. The consumer model will not compare to the model I take for myself. We can discuss your custom order when the timing is appropriate." William wasn't generally one to have a blacklist when it came to business. Money was money. What became of his inventions once they were no longer his property was of little odds to him. "Give me the name and I will do some research of my own. I don't like to jump to conclusions." He folded his arms and looked out over where they were stood. "You can have that honour. I just want to see him realise just how wrong he was to ever have bothered me. Little more."

"A MASS PRODUCTION THAT I HOPE WILL BE.. CONTAINED? not just anyone should be able to get their hands on your life's work. and besides.. if you don't mind? there's one very specific name that never should. he's dangerous. MY FORMER BROTHER IN LAW." more than dangerous - the man was a monster and no, he didn't see that changing anytime soon. not at all and not in the slightest. well, that just proved that he had been right about the other. good. very, very good. "and i take it that you'd want the honor of.. disposing of him for good?" @springbandit

"Be it so." he agreed, not wanting to have any kind of ill-feeling between him and the other, despite their ability to rub each other the wrong way almost constantly. William found it better in the long run to bite his tongue and try to be diplomatic. "Well, I shall test one out on our - little friend - and depending on how that goes, it should just be a matter of mass production." He assumed his machines wouldn't fail him. Though temperamental, they tended to pull through when it mattered most. "I say we bring him here, explain his wrongs, give him the opportunity to beg for forgiveness; for his life, Then deny him the mercy and turn him into some kind of paste. I don't quite care where he goes after that. Pour him down the drain for all it signifies."

"WELL, THE ONLY ONES THAT I CAUSE A PROBLEM FOR ARE MY ENEMIES AND.. AS IT TURNS OUT, YOU ARE NOT ONE OF THEM," was he? well, edgar absolutely hoped that was going to be the case, because.. he wanted to believe that the two of them could get somewhere. he wanted to believe that they could work things out and yes, of course that he did. right? "i could use the both of them, yes, and.. there is no need to say that i would pay handsomely for both of them? of course," he nodded a little bit. "then, we bring him here. we bring him either and we either dispose of him or.. we teach him a lesson. thoughts?" @springbandit

"I know you do." His final offer. He wasn't going to continue to affirm the other's pressing need to tell him just how competent and capable he was. His actions would have to match his mouth if he wished to receive true respect from William. "There." He was almost relieved that they could finally come to terms. "A partnership between two very important, but independent, companies." Surely, that hadn't been so hard for the other to relent to agreeing to. "I believe most of the preparation can be done from our separate workstations. So, let's focus on when we must work together. Failure is not an option and I don't wish to allow it to find a way to become one."

"OH, I AM. DON'T WORRY. I KNOW WHAT I'VE BEEN DOING." he knew what to do and.. yes, that was precisely why most people who attempted to get out of the farm didn't go absolutely anywhere. he made sure that happened. didn't he? yes. some of these people were let in about their secrets and.. right now, he wasn't about to let them get away with it anytime soon. not a chance in hell that would happen. "i suppose so. i would be more than happy to settle for a partnership between our two very important companies, then?" well, if that was the most that he could get to, he supposed that he would be alright with it. ish. "oh, no, no. we'll get rid of him together. let's discuss the finer details, then?" @springbandit
