Watching Fallout after being a Westworld fan like aha! We have multiple timelines to reveal the bigger, darker mystery of the company with some secret tech controlling everything! (Slightly guessing here with Fallout but I've seen Person of Interest and Westworld, I know the Nolan-Joy playbook by now.)

Also they really like drip-feeding the mysterious gunslinger's backstory.

As of episode six, I know there's gonna be at least one more big twist coming up, that's just their style

Criston is basically getting the same William treatment from westworld.

But I think his actions after Rhaenyra rejected him and basically mocked him is in character for his personality. After that, it scorch earth time.

The more he loves her, the hates are equally, and I don't think he really cares about Alicent that much tbh he just wants to make Rhaenyra life a living hell after ep5.

Sidenote : Criston and Jon Snow need a drink together. Im telling you ,So like you killed her for your redhead cousin?

“early criston is normaller than anyone is willing to acknowledge” SO TRUE — i vividly remember one of the most shocking things to me being criston killing joffrey because previously i had actually quite liked him and thought he was overall sympathetic. which is obviously like. the point lol. so seeing the blanket focus on criston being always a red flag and evil has always confused me.

rewatching early eps is so interesting bc i know we have our fun here with ‘oh dondarrion should have known something was up when criston was killing small animals to say mass to the bodies’ but like. early criston is literally normal there’s not an indication he’s even religious at all much less that he has a bad temper. in episode three he mentions having casual sex pre-kg and makes a non-insane tactful point to rhaenyra about how a lot of people would much rather have her problems in a palace as heir to the throne than their own lives

meta level i think part of why they can have him snapping come out of nowhere in ep5 is because a lot of fans already knew he was going to be evil so they didn’t have to set it up, which is interesting bc they always stress in interviews that criston didn’t get corrupted, he was always a bully/thug/super hotheaded he just hid it well and showed it more once he got more power. if that IS what they were going for there are ways they could have had his mask slip for a second without fully giving the game away that would make you go ohh! rewatching the show. have him cruelly stomp a guy’s hand in ep1 after unhorsing him, have him be subtly mean to someone he thinks he can get away with bullying (like larys) in ep3 but otherwise keep his behaviour exactly the same. rhaenyra is someone he needs to keep onside so it makes sense he’s perfectly chivalrous and charming around her but if one of his core personality traits is that he abuses any power he has over people show that BEFORE he gets more power!! if the idea is that he’s playing the perfect white knight around rhaenyra you do need to show him occasionally not around rhaenyra his performance can’t just be seamless
