It seems TALA WILDHART has been teleported to the dusk court, the STABLEHAND from DAY is said to be PRACTICAL and is said to describe themselves with COVERED IN THE COURT'S DUST, WALKS THE FIELDS WITH THE GRACE OF A WHISPERING BREEZE, ALWAYS TENDING TO THE CREATURES WHO CALL THIS LAND HOME, and with all of this in mind their STUBBORN nature always seems to get them into trouble. May the mother hold them as they navigate this unthinkable time.

Tala Wildhart was born into a long line of stablehands who have faithfully served the High family of the Day Court for generations. She knows more about horses, farms, and the delicate art of mucking out stables than anyone could reasonably expect. Her hands are calloused, her boots worn from years of toiling in the fields, and she carries the scent of hay and leather like a badge of honor. But despite all of this, Tala’s heart has never quite been in the family business.

While the rest of her family is perfectly content with their traditional roles in service to the High family, Tala has always had a different dream—a secret, quieter passion for studying the land. Cartography. The study of terrain. The patterns of the wind across the fields, the shifting tides of the lakes, and the way the forests grow—Tala is fascinated by it all. In an ideal world, she’d spend her days mapping the terrain of the other Courts, charting new lands, and exploring the untold corners of the world. But alas, she’s an only child, and her parents have other plans. Their hope for her is clear: follow the family tradition, manage the farm, and continue to work in service to the High family.

Tala’s frustration with this life has only grown over the years. She loves her family, of course, but the idea of staying in the same place, running the same stables, and being tethered to the same plot of land has never sat well with her. It’s not that she hates the horses or the work—they’re her lifeblood—but her heart longs for the freedom of the unknown. The thrill of discovering something new, the excitement of getting lost in uncharted territory.

So when her parents tried to marry her off to some pompous, utterly boring noble who couldn’t tell a saddle from a stirrup, Tala did what any sensible person would do: she ran away. Several times, actually. At first, it was just little escapes—taking the horses out for long rides into the rolling fields of Day, or slipping into the nearest village for a few days of quiet. But lately, it’s been more serious. She’s had enough of being pushed into the same role her parents expect. The idea of marriage and settling down has started to feel like a cage, and Tala refuses to be trapped.

Now, fate has handed her an unexpected opportunity. A teleportation accident—of course, it had to be an accident—has landed her in Gaea first and now the Dusk Court, far from the life she’s always known. To say she’s shocked is an understatement, but there’s something else, too. Excited. This is the chance to see the other Courts, to explore new lands, and maybe, just maybe, find a way to carve out a future for herself. For the first time in her life, Tala feels like she’s on the edge of something bigger than her family’s stables. She can finally see the horizon stretching far beyond the familiar fields of Day.

Mirror Games

Lilith finds a mirror in the Blighted Village. Astarion finds entertainment.

They were in the Blighted Village, just making their way when they found themselves in a ruined house. The mirror was surprisingly intact.

Growing up where she did, it was forgivable that Lilith stop in front of it, adjusting herself as needed. Usually, the other ladies did not have a lot of patience for Astarion and his flirtations or witty comments. But this time, when he noticed the wizard still fixing her hair, he leaned in towards Wildhart and Shadowheart. "Watch this." Again. Usually they had not the patience. But this? This would be good. Shadowheart bit down on her bottom lip, her shoulders giving away the fact that she was repressing the urge to laugh.

Already blessed with being light on his feet, Astarion made nary a sound as he slid up behind Lilith. As expected, his reflection did not appear in the mirror and as far as she was concerned, she was alone in that corner. Wildhart at this point had to clamp a hand over her mouth. "This is really mean," she whispered to the cleric.

"I know." Then, Astarion let his hands fall on Lilith's shoulder.

"Boo."

"YAH!" Lilith jumped like a startled cat. The women's laughter could not be contained any longer, and they leaned against each other as they let it out. Astarion chuckled too, a proud smirk hiding louder laughs. "You--! You--! I didn't see you!"

"Yes." He snorted, hiding his mouth behind his hand. "That was the point." Then he dropped his hand, parting his lips to gesture to his fangs then to the mirror. As he crossed his arms, Lilith groaned, realizing the connection. Her cheeks puffed up and even as angry as she was, she looked adorable. She resorted to simply punching him in the arm (which, really, wasn't strong to begin with) before turning away in a huff.

This was such a fascinating and exciting story for me not being a huge fan of mm romance I couldn’t put it down it completely sucked me in I love the world the characters the suspense mystery and the supernatural elements to this story all made for a very heart pounding thrilling read and the steam holy smokes Echo and Link were hot their chemistry is sizzling between them I devoured this story and I can’t wait for more! This was definitely H.D. Carlton doing what she does best I am obsessed with anything she has written and this was no different!
