Plant of the Day
Wednesday 4 September 2024
The evergreen fern Blechnum spicant (deer fern, hard fern, herringbone fern, northern fern, rusty back, snake fern) has thick, glossy fronds with a feather-like appearance. Here it was thriving in the cool, moist, shade of a Scottish conifer forest.

Bladder campion, not a native. It is edible, even sought after in some places but I haven’t tried it.

This is how I use pickled magnolia petals - as ginger on homemade sushi! I also love it enough to enjoy wrapping a fresh blossom around each piece to eat it too.
The miso soup features wild garlic, another wonderful spring time edible.

November 2024
🍂A desert false indigo (lat. Amórpha fruticósa), or false indigo-bush flaunts with copper leaves. The shrub is native to North America. Curiously, the plant prefers to grow on the shores of reservoirs, spreading its seeds with the help of the current.
Its flowers contain indigo. However, this substance is too small to talk about its use in industry. In May, I shared photos of amorpha flowers here, link to the post below🌱
🍂Медными листочками красуется Амо́рфа кустарниковая (лат. Amórpha fruticósa).

LOOK AT THEMMMMM
I shouted when I saw these outside the car window and jumped out and RAN back to them, I have been wanting to find this flower for AGES! It's one of my absolute favorites just because of how small and unassuming it is. I love it so so much it's adorable.
I love the variegation on the leaves, that's the first thing that caught my eye about it, but then also the arrowleaf shape to it, the flowers are also just so agghhhhhmazing. The speckling and everything is just simply impeccable.
