Wild boars in southeastern Germany are known to contain high levels of radioactive cesium, which has been widely attributed to the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. But radioactivity levels have decreased in other animals while mysteriously persisting in the boars – a peculiar behavior known as the "wild boar paradox". New research shows nuclear weapons tests from the mid-20th century are also responsible, and scientists say both sources continue to contaminate the boars via their diet. The stockily built, tusked wild boars (Sus scrofa) appear healthy, but the dangerously high levels of radioactive cesium found in some of them have reduced hunting of the animals for their meat and contributed to overpopulation issues.

Familiar Fridays - Babirusa

The metal-looking but beautifully peaceful wild pig known as the Babirusa off the islands of Indonesia. They’re called ‘deer pigs’, I guess and they certainly fit the bill with those giant curving antler-teeth don’t they? Without the extra fur they always look kind of like a punkrocker living their best lives.

Does anyone have a link to that post about someone’s mom getting into a guy’s youtube channel about survivalism and gardening that devolved into paranoid posts about the wild pigs? Like he’s geting ready for the feral hog apocalypse? He eventually stops posting videos and it turns out he was killed by them but he never once turned the camera around to film them. I can’t find it and it’s driving me nuts.

I forgot to mention this last time but my stand does in fact work! So I’m very happy that I’m able to display my piece how I originally wanted. And ofc for the even better news…

We Raku fired our pieces yesterday and I’m so happy with how mine turned out! I had so much fun omg it was great. I got to turn the kiln on and take my piece out with tongs and it was a very exciting yet nerve racking experience. I believe if there is time at the end I will be able to Raku my chanchito. I will be taking better pics of my main piece on Monday but enjoy these pics for now!
