Quackity: Angel, do you know if people go to heaven when they die?
Rubius: Of course, if the dead person is a good person.
Quackity: I had a friend on the first day, but I think he died.
Rubius: Mmhmm, what was their name?
Quackity: His name was Wilbur, and he had a ugly-ass sweater, so ugly, all of it.
Rubius: I'll ask my father.
Quackity: Ok.

hi Connor! can i request a hurt/comfort cc!Wilbur x reader in which reader's going through a rough path of mental health? to be more specific, a lot happened and they're overwhelmed, their mind is all over the place and they need someone to assure them that they're human and not some sort of flickering ghost like they thought. it'd be nice if there's no pronoun in the writing and Wilbur holding reader hands, squeeze it to remind them that they're human :)
don't lock yourself away (request)
Tumblr media
A/N; this took me too many months to get to you and for that, I am sorry- but here it is!! I'm trying to work more and more on my requests so hopefully this is the start of many more request posts!!
summary; reader goes through a rough patch mentally and sort of disappears and wilbur gets fed up, taking matters into his own hands and reminding reader that they aren't all what their brain says they are :)
tw// swearing, $uicidal ideation a bit, negative thoughts, depression, dissociation (some), uhh I think that's all?
words; 1.5k
pairings; cc!wilbur x gn!reader
pronouns; none, at least one use of y/n tho!!

---------------------------------------------------------
Like most other people, your mental health wasn't always the most steady. You'd come and go between happy, good days and depressing, bad days. Most of the time, your depressive episodes didn't even have much of a cause. Your mental health was simply a precariously stacked pile of things with one last feather on the top, and when it would touch the tower of reasons, it'd cause it to fall over.
You weren't sure what your reason was this time. But nonetheless, whatever it was; threw you over the pier into the ocean of despair. It's been a week since you left your flat, and you stopped answering calls and texts five days ago, and now you felt as though you were rotting—but in the comfort of your sheets and pillows.
Rotting away in comfort sounded like a good way to go, your eyes slipping shut to never open again—you stopped yourself every time you thought that. It was easy to succumb to the negative and end all thoughts but you managed to stop yourself—at least this time you did.
Your phone was most definitely dead and Wilbur knew that. Every call he sent through would go straight to voicemail and every text went unanswered. He understood if you were busy, but it had been so many days since anybody heard you from. And yeah, he was on tour for half of your isolation from the world—but he still cared. He really really cared, but he didn't know what to do. What was he supposed to do?
He’d called and texted and even went to your apartment with his spare key--but it didn’t fit. And you weren’t answering your door either.
Maybe he had an old key or maybe your apartment building changed the locks while he was gone and you didn't get the chance to tell him—hypotheticals aside, he had no real idea of what had happened or what was going on. And that scared him. It terrified him, actually.
It was a fear that went deep in his bones, that maybe something had happened and no one noticed or told him and he'd never find out why. Your door wasn't working, you weren't answering his calls and texts, what else was he meant to think? He tried knocking, truly he did, but there was still no response or sounds
He tried everything but it wouldn't budge, so he resorted to resting against the door as he sat on the carpeted hall. He'd wait here as long as he needed to. And so he messaged Tommy that he wouldn't be able to do a vlog with him tomorrow and he settled in to figure out what to do. He wasn't sure if he cared about being polite, maybe he should find a way to break in, just so he can make sure you're okay—but that would probably scare you and he can't risk that, can he?
At this point, he might as well. He brings himself back to his feet and grabs a safety pin he left in his wallet—mostly just to pick the lock at his office when he locked himself in, because whatever genius engineer decided the lock of his office's doors should be on the outside also made it very difficult to keep unlocked. It was like the doors had minds of their own. It was a few moments before he heard a click and he muttered a phrase of excitement before he jingled the door open and closed it behind him when he stepped a foot into your apartment.
He gazes around for any sign of you or life in general and not much was found. Surprisingly, things were decently tidy, there weren't any dishes or chores undone—which was unusual for what he assumed to be a depressive episode but he shrugged it off and beelined for your bedroom after dropping his keys in the bowl next to the door. He's quick to shuffle the door open and his eyes almost immediately land on your curled form.
You're laying under the covers, curled up into yourself and you're silent. Wilbur steps closer to the bed and he calls out for you, "Love?" He steps closer again, "Darling?"
You mumble something incoherent and he's taken aback by how out of it you are-- how unlike yourself you are. He finds his spot next to you and lays a hand on your hip, “Y/N?”
You don’t respond, keeping to yourself, trying to still your breaths--make yourself disappear into the mattress. Maybe he won’t ask questions then, maybe he’ll go away if you don’t answer.
He pulls away his hand a whine nearly drawls itself from your throat, you liked that but you’d never admit it in this state.
“I know you're not going to answer me, so I’m going to tell you what I think and hope you're listening, okay?” He turns on his side to face you, your eyes are wide open now and he smiles a bit to himself, taking a deep breath before continuing, “I think you feel like a shell. You do this a lot, when you're upset or in a funk. I know you can’t help it, I know it's human nature to hide away within yourself and your safe spaces. I don’t blame you, my love. But I need some assurance I’m not going to lose you, okay? A simple nod now or a simple word texted to me later when you feel yourself spiraling. So I can be there for you, I want to be but you have to let me first.”
During his small speech, you found yourself curling into the fetal position, hiding your face in the covers and by your pillows. You closed your eyes and you felt that pang of guilt in your chest despite his reassuring words.
“You’re here, you’re real, and you’re loved, okay?” He nods softly to himself, lips forming a thin line as he crawls out of the bed, “I’ll be out in the living room if you need me, okay? Come talk to me when you feel like it.”
His words echoed in your mind as you heard him leave the door cracked behind him. You felt terrible for making him feel as scared as he must be, yet you still needed a minute and you hoped that was enough. You opened your eyes, carefully eyeing the crack of light through the door, feeling yourself getting heavier with sleep, your eyes drooping shut.
A few hours later and your eyes were opening and a yawn was let out as you stretched, reaching over at Wilbur’s side of the bed only to find it cold. You felt better now, for some odd reason, and as memories of a few hours prior seeped in, you knew why. Maybe isolating yourself only made you feel more alien and the thought of his words so kind and so careful was so beautifully overwhelming. It was something you weren’t sure you could ever have a full grasp upon. Someone loving you as deeply and as carefully as Wilbur does.
You didn’t take much thought as you tossed your legs over the side of the bed, pushing yourself up to stand, ignoring the ache in your muscles as you dragged yourself over to the door and being methodical with how slow you opened the door--avoiding any screeches of the hinges. And then you were careful again, taking soft steps towards the living room, and when there was no sight of Wilbur, you pattered over to the kitchen. Being fully sure you were quiet and slow as you walked up behind him, wrapping your arms around his stomach and pressing the side of your head against his back. You felt him relax under your touch, any tension or worry completely fizzling from his being.
“I feel transparent, Wil. Like a ghost wandering aimlessly through life. I don't feel real, y’know?” You hum softly against his back, pressing soft and careful kisses against his back. He turns in your grasp to face you, leaning against the counter as he uses his pointer finger to lift your chin up so your eyes meet his. Only a soft love is held in his eyes, almost a promise in the way they glisten. An unspoken promise of forever.
“You aren’t a ghost, you’re a star. Everyone looks up at your shining light and thinks of how beautiful and wonderful it is to exist at the same time as a sight like that,” He moved his hands behind his back to grasp yours. The hold was gentle as he met your eyes again, voice merely a whisper, “You’re real, you’re special, you’re important.”
He squeezed your hands with every word and you nodded gently, a playful smile forming, a gentle scoff following, “I feel compelled to believe you.”
“Well, you should,” He smiled wider, moving his hands to rest on your sides, pulling you flush against him, “Now, do me a favor and, don’t lock yourself away.”
You nod in agreement, “I won’t, I promise.”

masterlist ; part one
Tumblr media
you were content by yourself on the island. it was cozy, the whispers of the swaying trees accompanying you. you were alone, yet you did not mind. ever since wilbur, ever since he blew up l'manberg and left you behind, you had swore off anything to do with countries. they don't matter, alliances or enemies or cities or countries ─ you didn't want to be near any of it.
you had left everything behind, and so far you haven't regret it.
it was one sunny afternoon, a long while after the explosion at l'manberg, where people came to the island you had inhabited. you didn't even expect it. you were in the forest, getting some flowers for extra decoration when you heard voices. you could only make out a few sentences.
"we're gonna be okay!"
"we're not gonna be fuckin' okay!"
the first voice was one you've never heard before, but the second one was unmistakably your old comrade. what was tommy doing here? you peeked out from your place behind the tall trees, confused as to what was happening. did they know you lived here? surely not, you don't remember telling anyone where you were going.
there were three people in the dirt shack right there, however you could only tell who two of them were by their voices ─ tommy and dream. whatever was happening couldn't be good if those two were around each other. tommy's swears interrupted your thoughts, fiercely cussing out the green man. his screaming disturbed the peaceful aura, and yet you couldn't find yourself being upset about it.
you watched as dream left, saying his goodbyes before he went away on his boat. did he just leave tommy and the mystery person here? you were bewildered, stumped on what was happening. all your thoughts fled once the two left on the island walked out of their dirt house however.
your blood ran cold at the sight of the man with tommy. your wilbur, the one who meant the world to you. how was he here? but he looked different. his skin was more dull, and he was wearing yellow instead of his regular dark trenchcoat. was this wilbur, or a fake maybe?
you didn't know, but the wilbur lookalike made you panic.
without thinking, you ran from the forest to your small cottage. you could hear tommy yelling at you, even if he didn't know who you were. you had left him without a word, there was no doubt he was going to be upset. and wilbur. oh god, what was wilbur going to think? you felt nauseous at the idea, locking the door behind you.
"oi! whoever you are, you better come the fuck out!" tommy shouted, aggressive as always. you would be smiling at the familiar attitude if it weren't such a high panic situation. "don't be mean, tommy, we don't know who this is." wilbur advised, his voice softer and more innocent than the last time you heard him.
"tommy!" you had finally yelled, tired of the banging on your door. he would break the wood if you let him continue. "stop banging on my door!" you had opened it, despite the endless uneasy thoughts shouting at you to run. the blond stood there in shock, eyes wide as he took a step back. "you- you're- how- no wait," he recollected himself for a moment, staring at you in shock.
"do i know them tommy?" wilbur whispered to tommy, although he didn't do a good job at being quiet. there was no way this was wilbur, he never acted like this. "so this is where you went? you left me with no fucking trace! you didn't tell me where you were going!" he yelled at you, betrayal evident on his features.
"i know, and i'm sorry. i just.. i couldn't live there after what wilbur did, tommy. i'm sorry, i should've told you what i was doing." you owned up to your mistake, frowning as you explained what was happening. he was listening, yet couldn't find it in himself to forgive you just yet.
"i wanted to ask, by the way," you said, clearing your throat as you looked at the man next to tommy. "is this.. wilbur?" tommy glanced at him, sighing as he shook his head. "i'm ghostbur! did you know alivebur?" he asked, tilting his head with a curious look. you nodded, not willing to gove any more details.
"we're on tour right now!" ghostbur said once more, smiling. "no, i got fucking exiled." tommy cut him off, brows furrowed with a pained look on his face. "exiled? tommy, why were you exiled?" you asked, even more confused than you previously were.
"tubbo fuckin' exiled me! my own friend! can you believe that, [name]? and then dream stole all our shit!" tommy fumed, hurt and angry. you frowned, looking back into your house. "you two can stay with me, if you want. i have extra supplies i can give you, and i can try to talk to everyone in l'manberg, if you want."
"you would do that for us?" the blond asked, hope glinting in his eyes for the first time since you've seen him. "yeah, if you would like." the two came inside, you giving them supplies and food. you were somewhat happy, despite the situation at hand.
ghostbur reminded you so much of wilbur though. the way he looked, depsite being more dull, haunted you. his memories would always be there.
wilbur was dead, but it seems he's come to haunt you for longer.

stupidly long list of dreamSMP things that are burned into my brain (in no particular order)
Niki's "I started baking again" to show she's healing
"What would I be without you?" "Yourself."
Ranboo quietly planting flowers outside of Tommy's house after his death. And how we didn't see that from his perspective it was happening in the background? It just feels so heavy
Also on those lines, Ranboo finding out that Tommy kept the allium all that time
Techno's speech on Doomsday like GOD i sent that clip to so many people to get them interested in DSMP
Ghostbur's death in the prison like the whole scene. Especially Tommy trying to get him to count down from 10 and cc!Wilbur's voice acting throughout
Revived!Wilbur claiming not to care about L'Manburg but lingering on all the exhibits in the museum so you just KNOW he's lying
(Also that whole period where he was so contradictory everyone was trying to figure out what his deal was)
Boys on Tour!!!
"I have something you never will. I have The Blade" [Technoblade joined the game]
Ranboo giving Techno the new Axe of Peace and Techno being like "My heart's not warmed at all--"
"I miss Philza. I wonder if he'd be proud of me."
THE COMPASSES. EVERYTHING WITH THE COMPASSES.
The parallel of Tommy protecting Ranboo in the court after they burned down George's house, and then Ranboo defending Tommy and telling everyone he's not actually selfish at all I JUST
RANBOO'S LORE STREAM IN THE PRISON? The way they blacked out the item frame images like it was a dream and all of the books being Ranboo's journal and then the PRISON COLLAPSING?
"As long as I can't be the next Schlatt, you can't be the next Wilbur"
That time when Tubbo visited Logstedshire in exile and Tommy couldn't tell if he was real or not, and then even when Tommy visited the mainland again he didn't trust that Tubbo was actually there
Tubbo's "Surely not..." and immediately ending stream when he got to Logsted
Ranboo telling Sam he "just fell in some water" to hide the fact that he'd been crying
Ghostbur confronting Phil and the whole "I sow the seeds of peace yet I pay the price for war!"
Dream sending Ghostbur off to die in the snow oh my god
Quackity breaking up the Red Banquet with Techno and Purpled
"This is MY sunrise! This is mine!"
(And then Ranboo's "What the hell did you do?")
That moment after the season 2 finale when Wilbur's ghost talked to Tommy and Tubbo for a moment and they bickered like before
"Deffo flerting"
Wilbur opening up to Ranboo in that whole stream like, "Can I be real with you? I think I scare people," and then talking so fondly about early L'Manburg and getting so excited about the flag in the L'Manhole
WHEN THEY FOUND TUBBO SITTING ABOVE L'MANHOLE AND SINGING THE ANTHEM
Quackity's development during Pogtopia, especially when he and Tommy had to try to stop Wilbur from pushing the button
GOD and when they got back to Pogtopia and it was covered head to toe in buttons like what perfect imagery for Wil's descent and all the tension
Quackity debating with Dream in El Rapids
The entirety of the Lost City of Mizu
The development across each Tales stream where we started to realize that something was really really wrong with the Inbetween
Sapnap's initial denial after hearing about Dream's "I never cared about Spirit" speech. Specifically when he went to Tommy's house basically desperate for someone to tell him he was wrong and Dream actually did care. But he never did
"You should've paid me more" and then EVERYONE coming out of the portal to save Tommy and Tubbo
"When I'm around you, my brain feels like it's fucking conditioned to be your friend. But also when I have a knife I wanna just plunge it into your heart"
ALSO when Tommy had the trident and he just flew around for a while and he was so free and happy
Jack telling Quackity about Tommy's death. And how Quackity had a bit of genuine mourning before he put back on that businessman mask
Also how Jack broke the news to a lot of them? Even though at the time he wanted Tommy dead the general feeling was just,, not like this.
"It's never my time to die."
And the way you felt so much dread in the exile arc just seeing "Dream joined the game" but you always knew it was coming
"The discs were worth more than you ever were!" AND THEN GOING INTO THE CONFRONTATION WHERE TUBBO TOTALLY INTERNALIZED THAT
The chess game between Dream and Tubbo, and then reading the analysis post after and seeing the VERY clear parallels
Ranboo's speech around Doomsday trying so hard to convince ANYONE of his point, and the only people who listened completely misinterpreted what he meant
And also just how hopeless it felt before Doomsday
"Really Tubbo, I was your sidekick. Please... Please don't go."
"If it pleases the court I would like to say my opponent is talking SHIT."
Tubbo bringing up Gandhi in Civ V to Quackity, positive he'd know exactly what that meant
"It's okay to cry. I cry too."
The whole thing with Sam in the Egg Arc like are you good
The button room is a given, of course, but also the way Eret added the "I'm sorry" book to the recreation??
God the exposure therapy streams with Tommy. Those made me so uneasy
Niki burning the L'Mantree
"My unfinished symphony, forever unfinished!"
DUDE that part at the end of Quackity's first cinematic lore stream where it cuts to real footage of him with the calendar and the chips like I have never stopped thinking about that
Tommy's revival stream where he was just yanked out of limbo
Tommy making Dream put his stuff in a hole once they got the upper hand
Phil inviting Ranboo to live with them in the arctic
Wilbur removing the safety rails in Pogtopia
Wilbur writing the declaration of independance in early L'Manburg!!!
The hints at c!Connor lore like the diary and the moments where he talked to Tommy about Exile!! Also how he was just in a Tales stream as c!Connor and he was like "yeah i have other friends"
Techno revealing the bunker he made to Pogtopia with just full netherite sets. And THEN revealing that he made the armor sets weak on PURPOSE
The way Tommy burrowed under Techno's house when he first escaped Exile
Niki's "I DON'T EVEN WANT TO BE HERE"
When Dream visited the Arctic to look for Tommy and Techno covered for him even though he was being extremely obvious the entire time
When Tommy asked Tubbo if Ranboo made him happy and he said yes
./hug
"For you the world, Phil" and "I was willing to fight all of them for you, Tommy, I would've been there!"
Foolish trying to use his powers in the Egg room and his dread when it failed
"I have a pickaxe, and I'll put it through your teeth!" and then Quackity trying to do the same thing when he had Techno cornered but failing. He hasn't earned it
Fundy's spy diary and the way c!Wilbur hardly even cared. Dismissing his son as usual
Also Fundy's nightmares?? And the stream where he was working to become a better man to move past them by going down a checklist and trying to prove he was good enough for Quackity
When the dteam blew up L'Manburg the first time after Wilbur had been so smug about it being a minor setback.
AND the duel between Tommy and Dream. The way he lost his life for his country and still lost it until he gave up the discs to get it back for his family
"Welcome home, Theseus!"
Wilbur talking about how he got no grave and you can tell it hurt him more than he'd let on
That one time very early on when Wil told Tommy it'd be okay if he burned down the area around Manberg, and then told him he was so proud that he decided not to.
Phil and Ghostbur with the cute little music area in New L'manburg :((
Also the way Phil would fill up the water under New L'Manburg was so cool I loved that environmental storytelling thanks king
Techno's "Well that's gonna be a bit of a problem, Dream, because this guy's with me." AND THEN "Unless, of course, you wanna call in that favor" LIKE GOD the emotional whiplash
"People are above the government!" "I'm a person!" "You are! And so are we!"
"You look so beautiful right now."
That time Bad visted the Arctic to spread Eggpire propaganda and Ranboo ended up trapped but Techno threw him like everything he had to help him get out
