(REALLY LONG POST, SORRY) Hii ! Thanks for this ask, it's very interesting! <3 first, about the pronunciation I do pronounce the G like you guys pronounce the H! and at least for I have seen, we all pronounce it like that. And about the living here.. of course I can only speak for my experience and what I have seen, since I have never been anywhere else. So a few things I have experienced here:

♡ The way I was raised what y'all would call ""woke"" . I was always surrounded with history and science that would really focus on women's rights, the people of color that built the nation, and about the horrors of colonization and imperialism

♡ Argentine buildings are really beautiful! People say that Buenos Aires looks like an old European movie.

♡ I don't know how it's like in your country, but people here are really loud and social! And you can laugh and joke around with any stranger. And something I heard from foreigners visiting Argentina Is that we're really polite! Idk how true that is but saying etiquette and politeness is important. And Argentinians also value family and community a lot, and there's this belief that gringos are rude and individualistic.

♡ In the US you have barbeques, that in Argentina we call "asados" . Asados are really popular, traditional and important for us. Meat is really loved here, Argentina Is one the 9th biggest producer of meat in the world.

♡ Argentina Is not that diverse. Around 95% of Argentina's population are of European descent. And that's why other Latin American countries tend to exclude us for being "an European country in America".

♡ I never knew this was considered weird but I'm Argentina you don't have to go Supermarkets to buy groceries. I thought this was normal but apparently in other countries Verdulerías (a little store that doesn't belong to any corporation that sells fruits and vegetables, they're owned by normal people like us) and Carnicerías (the same but why meat) are rare.

♡ Argentina really values freedom too, or at least the word is used in politics a lot. I was raised to believe Argentina was founded with values of freedom, education and equality.

Statistics and stuff:

Argentina Is really nice to inmigrants! The constitution literally says that anyone who steps into Argentine territory is an equal and should be treated as such. So migrants receive the same social services like the rest of us. Example: public universities in Argentina offer tuition-free undergraduate courses for foreign students.

Education is free and universal. In Argentina the literacy rate is 99.51%, making Argentina one of the latin american countries with the highest rate of literacy. And Argentine universities, particularly the Universidad de Buenos Aires, are well-regarded within the region and internationally ( I really want to live in Buenos Aires! ) Even tho, a lot of teachers in public schools protest and demand better payments and treatment. I agree with this since I was taught that teachers are the most important part about a nation!

Healthcare is free for all as well! Including tourists and expatriates. The country is known for the quality of its healthcare (even the quality can vary greatly depending on the region)

Anyways, at least in my experience, Argentina Is really beautiful and fun! But in the last years there's been a lot of division and thanks to this government we're losing a lot of awesome things we accomplished (like abortion and the Gender Identity Law) and our culture too! (they're closing cultural centers). and it hurts me to see my country like this. But every country has it's bad and good sides and my people is worth defending. Lately I’ve been going through the worst art block and I wanna draw something JLI related but it’s not going to happen bc my life is a nightmare so I decided to use words to describe physical aspects I think the JLI would have irl.

I won’t be saying how tall I think everyone is mainly cause idk basic math but I believe that: Guy is the tallest of the group, idk ginger people give the vibe that they’re tall, I’m Brazilian so I haven’t seen many gingers in my life so I could be wrong, after Guy comes Booster, bc he’s blonde it’s the second whitest thing a white person could be besides ginger and white people are tall, it’s science (it absolutely isn’t science) then after that comes Ted I don’t think he is a short king but I don’t think he’s super tall either. Then comes the girls and I 100% believe that Tora is taller than Bea bc she’s Norwegian and like I said earlier white people are tall, also Brazilian women are short, I would know, in fact this week I saw on Twitter that the average Brazilian woman is 1,61cm and I’m 1,63cm which I know u don’t care but I wanna put on the internet that I’m above average.

Body … shape ? Idk:

I just think the guys aren’t that muscular, I imagine them with like swimmer body type u know ? Idk how to explain it but I personally don’t like when super heroes are drawn super muscular it doesn’t look natural idk. And for the girls I always imagine them to be like Bea has big butt small boobs and tora has big boobs and small butt bc every best friend duo is like that irl, if you never noticed it now you’ll see it everywhere.

Hair and stuff:

Bea has long wavy light green hair with a side part (idc that it isn’t cool anymore it is easier to draw ok, leave me alone). Tora has shoulder length straight white hair and I mean white not platinum, she has ice powers, she isn’t Paris Hilton. For the guys nobody cares so … yeah :)

Eye color:

That meme that every DC character has blue eyes is so real, to me tho I think Bea and Guy don’t, Bea has green eyes and Guy has brown eyes.

Nationality:

I think Guy has a lot of freckles idk if u notices but I add them to his face in all my drawings. Tora has a reddish nose bc you know when it’s cold and your nose gets a little red ? I think that’s a cute detail. In my head Ted has dimples and only my opinion matters. Bea has black eyebrows and lips that’s bc of a fanfic I created in my head, and to me she’s a white Latina I know some people feel uncomfortable that she’s white and I know that bc some gringos commented on my posts asking “why is she light skinned” and I could have an entire conversation on why this sort of question is very stupid but for this post I’ll just say that Brazil had a lot of European immigrants throughout its entire history and as a result of that a lot of Brazilians are white, including me and it’s not a big deal. And for booster there’s nothing to add he’s just booster :D

There will never be a trans-inclusive "All-Girl" space.

Fundamentally, to define a space as "All-Female" or even "All-Women" is to define the term female or woman. Both of those things are nebulous at best, and that means they will, usually, resort to the usual take: "Woman means adult human female." And "Female means a fertile, vagina-having, motherly, She/Her cisfem." TERF shit.

The only people who would make a rule with such a premise are TERFs themselves or traumatized cis women who really do believe that the mere presence of a man is a threat to their safety. Neither of which--as you're probably already aware--are going to be very trans-inclusive.

We can talk about why people think this way another time. For now the important part is, if you want to feel safer or more socially integrated, seek out all-queer or all-trans spaces, not all-woman spaces. Queer people will understand you more than cis people ever could.

(And yes theoretically this applies to trans men as well if you replace every feminine thing with a masculine one. Gender restrictions are antithetical to trans people as a whole.)

It was 2 minutes to 7am and I was late for school. Running to put on my warm sweatshirt and getting ready psychologically to go out in a cold weather, I grabbed my keys and tried to lock the door almost dropping my backpack on the floor. It was almost summer, but my town wasn't disappointed in having very cold mornings and hot afternoons.

"Shit," I murmured as I kicked the door, insisting that didn't want to close it. "Why hasn't my mom called someone to fix this thing yet?" I spoke to myself and finally managed to close it hearing a click. Coming down the stairs practically running, I closed the small gate and strode down the street.

I lived with my parents in a town called Kingston-upon-Thames, in a tiny two-bedroom house, very close to the school. You just need to walk about 4 blocks and voilá, I could already see the entrance gate and the familiar faces of the gringos. I was in the last year of high school, just turned 17 and I was born in Brazil, but grew up in London, when my father had to move because of his work, when I was only 6 years old. Obviously we weren't rich, my father worked with woodwork, and my mother currently worked in a small flower shop in the city center. But when my father received an offer to move to another country, he didn't think twice. Learn another culture, a new language and still earn some good money?An offer that cannot be refused.

The first time we arrived it was very strange, only my father knew intermediate English and my mother and I obviously did not know a single word. But we quickly befriended a family that lived on our street: the Osterfields. Jenna and Carter were the parents of two children: Harrison, the same age as me and little Charlotte (newborn at the time). Harrison and I immediately became inseparable, and he became like a brother to me and our families became one.

Obviously with him, also came nothing more and nothing less than: the Holland family. Nikki and Dom had 4 male children, one my age: Tom, Harry and Sam twins, 3 years younger and Paddy who was born 2 years later. So the family just grew, our parents became best friends, and me, Harrison and Tom became an unbeatable trio. There was no Y/n, without Tom and Harrison and vice versa, we're always together.

We went to the same school since always. As Haz lived only a few houses below mine, we meet and go together and Tom, who lived on the other side of the school, met us at the gate every day.

I went down the street and saw Haz sitting on the wall in front of his house, fiddling with his cell phone with a earphone, as soon as I approached he raised his head and smiled.

- Finally, I thought you aren’t going to class today. - He said getting up and giving me a kiss on the cheek.

Tom was already leaning against the side of the gate with his backpack between his legs, talking to a guy who was doing theater with him and Harrison. He was laughing at something, wearing a black hoodie, his hair was a little messy under his hood and his nose was slightly red from the cold. For some reason my stomach did some flips as we approached.

Harrison and Tom were very handsome, there was no denying it, they were half nerds, half bad boys (in the sense of forgetting to study for the exam or not doing their homework once in a while), they did theater, they were nice and got along very well with girls since they started puberty. As for me, I was the nerd who was always concerned about grades and getting into the journalism college, I didn't always have excellent grades, but they were enough to pass or impress the professors when I felt inspired. I wasn't popular, but not a completely ghost too, because being best friends with the boys ended up calling attention in some way.

The only boyfriend I had was a guy named Steven, and also my first kiss, to at age 15, but we broke up last year. Steven was cool, but we had different views on things and use to think about completely different futures, so we thought it was best to broke up. And since then I'm alone and very well, thank you.

But since I broke up with Stev, for some reason I've started to have some weird feelings for Tom. Weird in the meaning of being shy around him, with whatever he does, or whatever words he exchanges with me. Which is ridiculous, because he's my childhood friend, and I never felt any of that with Haz, so why with him I feel? I always saw Haz as my brother, but with Tom it's different, and I never understood why.

Anyway, here I was with my heart beating faster and faster as we approached. As soon as we got close, Tom waved goodbye to the guy he was talking. He grabbed his backpack off the floor and patted Haz on the back, kissing my forehead afterwards, which I immediately feel my cheeks burning with embarrassing, but no one realized.

- Hey mates! Finally! I thought you weren't coming anymore.- he said as the three of us went through the gate towards the school.

- The madam here, was the one who ended up sleeping too much, I was also waiting a long time.- Haz said and I rolled my eyes, making Tom smile.

- I understand Y/n, I also love sleeping... By the way, I said I was waiting a long time, but actually I just arrived. - He laughed - Your mother started working on that flower shop, right?

- Yeah! She started today, so I'm still getting used to waking up just with the alarm without my mom pulling me from under the covers by my hair.- I replied and they both laughed.

- Which class do you guys have now? - Tom asked as we went up the stairs to the first floor where the class rooms were.

-Math- Haz said, rolling his eyes. - Actually, I really have to go, because if I show up a second late again Mr. Jones will kill me. - he said giving us a brief wave and running to the opposite side.

- I have philosophy, thank God, one of my favorite subjects.- I said raising my hands to the sky as a joke and Tom laughed.

- Wow y/n, I thought your favorite subject was biology and English.- he said and I stuck out my tongue, but feeling a little warm inside, these subjects were the ones we had together.

- Anyway, see you later? I have physics now unfortunately.

- Yeah, I'll be at our new favorite place. - I giggle, it had been a week since me, Haz and Tom found a perfect place to stay during the break, which was on the back of the school, on a hill next to a tree, where we had a full view of the students down there. It was perfect, because the warm morning sun was shining and we'd be left on the ground gossiping and watching what others were doing.

- See you there shortie. -Tom said kissing the top of my head, giving me a wink and leaving towards his class room.

- Look who's talking. - I said loudly for him to hear and he showed me his middle finger from a distance, laughing at my face.

I turned around smiling and headed towards my class. The first two classes were normal, nothing new, I was still a little sleepy, so I ended up almost sleeping in the second geography class, where I was almost kicked out by Mr Wilson, who let It pass this time. The alarm hit indicating it was break time and I thanked God, practically running to stay out in the sun.

I grabbed my phone from my pocket and my headphones, hitting play on Radiohead's Subterranean Homesick Alien song and walking outside. I saw Steven with his new girlfriend Lily right on the way out, they were talking, hugging each other and looked very happy, he saw me and gave a smile from a distance where I reciprocated. Our break up went very well, without resentment, which made me happy.

I walked up the small hill and saw Haz and Tom already at our meeting place. Tom was lying down looking at the sky while Haz was sitting propped up in the tree.

- Did you guys miss me? - I said sitting next to Haz.

- Yeah, we were even thinking about how we could handle living without you y/n- Haz said and Tom chuckled.

- I know you two love me. - I said shrugging.

- In fact, we were arguing when you're going to have a new boyfriend. - Tom said and I froze.

- And who said I want a new boyfriend? I asked raising my eyebrow.

- We know you y/n, you starting to have your head in the clouds lately, always retweeting couple things and posting romantic songs, I can see that you're falling in love again.- Tom said, still looking at the sky.

- I agree. - Haz said taking the side of my earphone and putting into his ear. - She's even listening to Radiohead! And you always listen to Radiohead when you're in love. - I gave them a sarcastic laugh and pulled the earphone of his ear turning off the music making Haz laugh.

- You guys are idiots, I'm fine alone thank you, I just want to focus on my studies from now on. - I said and they both made a "hmm" in unison, making me roll my eyes.

- Actually, we were discussing where we're going to celebrate my 17th birthday tomorrow.- Tom said changing the subject, turning his head and covering the sun with his hand to look at me.

-Tomorrow is your birthday?- I asked pretending to be surprise and Tom rolled his eyes playfully.

- I know you two always look forward to my birthday, because you love me and want to surprise me.- he said and Haz and I laughed ironically. - But Marcos offered his house, because his parents are traveling, so we could make a cool party there! So I was thinking about calling the theater people and some of our friends like Julian, Tuwaine and etc, maybe getting some drinks too... - Tom said sitting down and cleaning some leaves that were stuck on his hoodie.

- I think it's a good idea, I'm not much of partying or drinking, but with you both I always have fun.- I said and Haz rested his head on my shoulder.

- Good to know we make you happy Y/n. - Haz said and I giggle patting his head.

- So we meet tomorrow? You guys want to stop by my house so we could go together?

- Actually, I have to go to my granny first, so I'll go from there.- Haz said and Tom gave him a thumbs up.

- Y/n you can go? Around 7pm it's ok?

-Of course Tommy. - I said and he smiled at the nickname.

- Okay, I'll wait for you at 7pm and I'll send you the address, mate.- he said to Haz as we got up listening to the bell ringing indicating the break was over.

- Deal!- Haz said.

- Deal. - I also said as we went down back to class.

The last classes were history, the subject I had with Haz and he returned my homework, assuring me that he had changed the words. We spend the whole class sending notes talking about nonsense and making jokes. Haz and I were pretty good at sending notes without the professor seeing.

But I confess I was puzzled by what the boys had said earlier, how did they have the impression that I was in love? I wasn't, was I? Was I showing too much that i had feelings for Tom? I don't know, I just know that the whole story had left me with immense anxiety.

The class was over and I said goodbye to Haz, because he had theater with Tom and I didn't have any extra activities that day. The only days that i had something was on monday, tuesday and thursday, when I have a school reinforcement to improve my notes to enter college. Which was a relief, since I had to run to the mall to look for a gift to give Tom for his birthday. I had been looking for weeks and I didn't find anything interesting to give to my best friend. Best friend isn't it? Nothing more than this...

Well for the posts I show you guys it is already in the face that I'm brazilian, so receiving a special of miraculous is something that makes me very happy! Even if is just rio de Janeiro but all the others countries is also the famous city so I'm totally fine with that, but there's some things I hope they don't do and some that I really hope they do.

Things I don't want

Carnaval, I love Carnaval music costumes and etc but this party isn't something that big in Brazil in my opinion well at least not in my state.

They go tho the state of Amazonas, like it won't make any sense because it should be in rio, but all movies that had Brazil on it they always put Amazonas there (they made look like they are very close but trust me they era very far away).

Put a bunch of wild animals in screen, we do have a lot of animals but depending on the state you won't find a certain animals so yeah. And we don't live in a jungle. Well basically yes but you got the point.

Things i want

The miracle box be native just like the New York one, or maybe a mix between African and Brazilian natives.

A bunch of Brazilians didn't react so good at lady butterfly because "is not a brazilian native animal" and this is pretty wrong, but I know why people think of that Brazil don't teach important things from or country, they just teach about USA and Portugal. So I love that we gonna have a butterfly.

Some brazilian jokes would be great but put her calling ladynoir and chat noir gringos would be the best.

Not a fire or plant power pls water I kinda would like but something more creative would be very cool.

i'm really sorry if you don't wanna talk about this, totally understandable, but i'm still not over steve franks not making shawn latino!!! like you said (or someone else said, don't remember rn) it wouldn't even be that much of a change if you made his mom latina, she barely appears anyway, and even if they didn't want to make some deep dives into shawn's family+heritage (which like, while logically i understand why they wouldn't wanna waste episodes on some minimal characterization, gringos are always on thin fucking ice, so), they could reference it with throw away lines, like they did with jules (maybe some comment passing the holidays down south, or shawn knowing spanish really well and surprising everyone ("wait, you know spanish?" "easier to learn the language than have mom as my personal translator during christmas")), and it's not even like they would need to make some grand research (which would still be nice tbh) bc james roday rodriguez is literally the character. and when 2.13 happened, instead of having whatever that episode was, they could have some interesting moments with shawn being already familiar with the world of telenovelas (and maybe, if you still want him to not know about it and have a bunch of people around him still aware and keeping up with it, there could be a whole thing about how watching telenovelas was a mom&son thing and when she left watching them became painful so shawn stopped altogether and going to the set of one brings back memories, some painful, some nice, but all nostalgic), and the jokes, instead of deriving from this "oh jeez isn't that insane" gringo pov, it could come from this "this is very much insane but i understand it deeply and love its insane-ness" latino pov. anyway idk!!!!!!!!!!! i'm still bummed out over this and i might just fuck around and watch a million little things to see james play a latino character

2x13 would’ve been so much better for shawn to be latino and him just smoothly taking the role of a spanish character and speaking spanish like it was no problem. OR they could’ve made it a thing, where he doesn’t know spanish and is kind of sad he isn’t that connected with his heritage and then there’s an arc where he becomes more in tune with it and learns spanish. like that’s what james has said about himself, so it would’ve been cool to have the same arc for shawn.

one thing tho is i love gus’s comments about White Boy (tm) shawn. honestly great. but still would’ve been better to have two main characters of colour instead of just gus. like literally he’s the only poc on the show, except for his fam which is only a few eps. and then he and shawn could’ve like bonded over their heritages or something. like they do mention stuff about gus’s jamaican grandparents, but it would’ve been great to have shawn reciprocate that with his mexican roots or something.

and yeah i don’t really like cybill’s portrayal of shawns mom, she was kinda stiff and idk just cringey. i would’ve loved to have a latina actress instead. also they could’ve cast a latino actor for henry. i love how corbin portrays him though so i don’t know if i would want to give that up lol. but i’m sure there are plenty of latino actors who would’ve given the same or better performance as corbin.

Thoughts on Carl from Shameless? He's not one of my faves but I also find myself thinking about his character in s4 a lot and like. Imo I think s4 is where his character rlly hits the hardest like that last scene with him and frank on the waterfront and how he just wanted to get his shitty dad a new liver and his first heartbreak with bonnie adding real poignancy to his "arc" because she's never returned to the show. And also "why is the world so fucked up" just. S4 Carl.

this is probably my LEAST popular shameless take but come here i’ll tell you.  I fucking LOVE carl gallagher. he’s consistently been a fave and I'm like, @ me, fucking why? but I think it’s because 70% of white guys I knew growing up were carls (except instead of having the stint of racefaking Blackness these gringos were racefaking being members of the Latin Kings bc of where im from geographically), and in carl I recognized sometimes the softer side of those boys I knew, why I put up with them in the first place even though they were so, like, corny, which is what we called cultural appropriation back in the day before anyone told us that word. idk carl is close to my heart. brings back a lot of stuff. he’s both stupid and uneducated, and occasionally malicious, and extremely gullible, and it’s all very like. woof. s4 carl was peak carl because he just wanted to help his dad, and in wanting to help his dad all the shit he performed got stripped away, and he was a kid, and him shaving frank’s head was like. oh cool im heartbroken. im also close to s10 carl tho 1) because of when he says, baffled, I think I'm a democrat? and, 2) the whole thing about working at a fast food place is the best I'm gonna get. that was really like. rough

 the downside of carl is that he’s been like three different characters because no one on this show cares about continuity, but I think s4 carl and 10 carl are at least adjacent, and 1-3 and 5-6 carl are like.. also at least adjacent. it’s just that they’re not all adjacent to, like, each other. which is a real shame. but one of the most interesting things about carl, I think, is that he’s always trying, and not everyone on this show is always trying, because sometimes they’re coasting or going on benders or whatever. but from juvie to becoming a piglet carl’s always been trying to hit the roof of something, to get “there” and he doesn’t even know where there is. and that’s like, inherently interesting. someone who’s trying to attach themselves to absolutely anything, regardless of what it is, just to have an identity. it implies an intense feeling of lostness that’s hard to look at directly. 

if I personally were brought in to singlehandedly write s11 and finish the show I'd do something with ana (like fuck her name is anne her name’s ana name one Mexican girl named ANNE with a fucking e the fuck), something with carl getting some education, understanding a cop is the OPPOSITE of what he wants to be lmao, etc. finding an identity that he really can stick to, really gets.

See I think the problem is sweden is just.. cold amshnsdhdj we can’t really grow spices here so throughout the times it’s just been salt and pepper (until we started importing spice from the colonies like we thought we were the brits lmao) but traditional swedish food is like??? Potatoes and meatballs with lingonberry jam and sometimes you make the sauce out of the fat you fried the meatballs in and it’s gross. I’ve never been to Germany actually but that restaurant sounds disgusting I’m so sorry what are they doingggg. THANKFULLy we have so much food imported from pretty much everywhere that most people’s favourite foods is almost always something that didn’t originate here. Like tacos!! It’s a staple in pretty much any household here, at least where I grew up, and one of my friends is obsessed with Indian food, specifically vindaloo which is so so spicy but so good. As for the cream cheese sushi, at the restaurant here they put it in the maki rolls with veggies and a piece of omelet, i cannot stress how good it is ahaha. I love food so much!!! I don’t think I’ve ever eaten anything Brazilian specifically, but since we’re talking about it I’m really curious. If you have a specific dish or anything you think I should try let me know!! I’m gonna ask google but it’s always fun to get tips from someone who is living with the culture behind it and everything!! - salmon anon (salmnon? salmanon? Swenson? aaaa okay so when it comes to brazilian food you gotta understand that there’s...... so much stuff. our cuisine is super varied and rich and there’s just... a lot. so it all depends on what strikes your fancy. but i have a few suggestions, although keep in mind that again, brazilian cuisine is varied and rich and it’s a big country, so i have the mos contact with food from my region (the southeast), although i’ve been to the northeast, north, and south as well

so the basis of culinary in most brazilian households is the rice + beans + farofa combo. farofa is basically cassava flour with spices, it is made to add Big Crunch to the meal. we eat that in every meal, except for breakfast. it’s kinda the foundation/pillar of the plate. i do recommend trying it, absolutely. the most likely version of that for you to find is feijoada, which is a little stereotypical as far as brazilian dishes go, but i doubt you’d find regular rice beans and farofa around in a small town in sweden. in feijoada the beans come with pork parts, and it’s black beans, not regular beans. it is also traditionally served with kale and orange slices. it’s really good, personally i love it

another great dish worth a try is moqueca. moqueca is (usually) fish/shrimp, coconut milk, dendê oil, bell peppers, and other spices. it takes cilantro so if you are a little bitch, i mean, if you don’t like it, you might skip that one. it is also usually served with farofa or pirão, which is essentially farofa but moist

i do recommend trying anything palm-heart related if you haven’t. palm heart pies are one of my favorite things. and okay i know that you probably won’t be able to find this but i doubt you’ll be able to find most things i’m talking about so i’m just gonna dream big here: catupiry is this kind of brazilian... cream cheese, except it’s creamier and tastier and just superior in general. we love putting it on shit, and when it comes to stuffing, palm heart + catupiry or chicken + catupiry are my favorites

i also love bobó de palmito na moranga, which is essentially palm heart inside very creamy squash. the most common version actually takes shrimp instead of palm heart, but i don’t like shrimp and they’re not super accessible in my city anyway lol

escondidinho is another great dish. it means “little hidden one” in portuguese and it is cassava puree with dried meat inside, gratinated. there’s also a version with mashed potatoes, ground beef, and tomato sauce, but cassava is better. honestly just go for anything cassava. it’s the basis of native brazilian culinary and it’s fucking delicious. fried cassava, roasted cassava, cassava puree.... if you’ve never had them, they’re like potatoes, but better in every way. and don’t get me wrong, cuz i love potatoes

anything from the state of minas gerais FUCKS and is highly recommendable. tutu de feijão might look bad for a gringo but i promise it’s worth a try. feijão tropeiro is amazing, and chicken with okra is one of my fave brazilian dishes. it’s also easy to make so you can make it at home, even. just don’t forego the rice beans and farofa. my eastern european friend had never seen okra so if you look it up, no, that is not pepper. it’s not spicy. seriously i know yall are afraid of everything but it’s not

as for snacks! one of the greatest institutions in brazil is coxinha. coxinha is a potato-based batter stuffed with chicken (and usually catupiry as well although coxinha without catupiry is also commonly found) and deep fried. you cannot have a kids party and not serve it, it is absolutely essential. but it is also eaten as a regular snack commonly. it is super good, everyone loves it, and i highly recommend

another great institution is pão de queijo, which i’ll admit i’m not a fan of because i don’t like cheese (catupiry doesn’t count) but i can’t just forego mentioning it. it takes polvilho, which is tapioca (which is a derivation of cassava, i’ll get there in a minute) flour, with cheese, basically. it gets a fluffy consistency that is hard to describe and that many people love. it is most traditional in the state of minas gerais, but you can find it all over brazil and also in other places in south america although recipes vary

tapioca! you might have heard of tapioca as the bubbles in bubble tea are made of it. it is a kind of cassava flour, but it’s very different from the cassava flour used to make farofa. it is white in color. you just put that motherfucker in a frying pan (no oil needed) and the grains stick to each other, making a sort of... taco-like thing? it doesn’t taste like a taco but it looks slightly like one. then you just stuff it with Whatever You Want. can be savory or sweet, personally i prefer savory but the "classic” one is coconut and condensed milk. another good stuffing to try is what we call romeu e julieta (literally “romeo and juliet”), which is a cheese that we know as queijo minas, but if you have contact with mexican food you might know as queso fresco, and guava paste. i know it sounds weird which is why it has the name as these two things are not supposed to be together but they go WELL together. romeu e julieta is a common dessert and the basis for thousands and thousands of other recipes in brazil

speaking of tapioca, DADINHO DE TAPIOCA (tapioca dice) is where shit’s at. it is tapioca flour with cheese rolled into a dice format and fried, served with pepper jam, altho you can forego it, but i DO recommend trying it with the pepper jam. it is not super spicy and so so very good. don’t waste an opportunity to try it

and an ESSENTIAL brazilian institution: pastel and caldo de cana. pastel is a flour-based batter with a bit of cachaça (sugarcane liquor) stuffed with Whatever You Want (most common tho are ground beef, and cheese. but personally i’m always a slut for palm heart and there’s a local pizza place near my home that also makes pastel with whatever flavor you could possibly want and broccoli with catupiry pastel? PEAK) and deep fried. it is kinda big for a snack but bro it is so very good. and then we usually have it with caldo de cana, which is sugarcane juice. now, caldo de cana is very sweet, so personally i like to put a little bit of lemon in it, which is how we usually make it in the state of São Paulo, but other states lowkey look down on that (brazilians as a whole have a sweet tooth, many of our desserts are Really Sweet) but they are wrong and we are right. anyway, pastel and caldo de cana are usually served at street markets, so once you are done with your groceries, you can sit down and enjoy some. highly recommended altho again i’ll be surprised if you can find any in sweden. but pastel is not hard to make! caldo de cana is tho, you have to have kind of a machine to extract the juice from it

onto desserts! an all-time brazilian favorite is brigadeiro. that is condensed milk, butter, and cocoa with chocolate sprinkles, essentially. i recommend using dark chocolate as it is otherwise really sweet but it depends on your tastes. do try it tho

romeu in julieta as i already mentioned is very popular and seriously, give it a try

if you’re into sweet stuff, try rapadura, which is our version of piloncillo. it is like 90% sugar tho so seriously, you gotta like sweets

pé de moleque, which literally translates to “boy’s foot”, is rapadura and roasted peanuts, and it’s one of my all time favorite desserts

paçoca is also grounded peanuts with a little bit of salt and sugar, usually coming in a cork format. they are absolutely amazing and i can’t recommend them enough
