Her birth was like an omen, exaggerated perhaps in her parent's telling. Born on the day Arthur pulled Excalibur from the stone and the land began to change; to heal. Finally led by a man who believed actions mattered, that the world could be changed and bettered.

But she had something of the old ways in her, the ways of Andraste and Boudicca. Fearsome little thing, the world was changing didn't she know? It had started the day she was born.

Her mother is Irish, one of Isolde's ladies-in-waiting who came to Cornwall when she married Marke of Cornwall. And the one who gave Tristan and Isolde the love potion as well. Julianna is her 'Christian' or Romanized name, Brangaine is her Irish name.

The reasons she's wary of Kayley becoming a knight is because she's seen actual battle and wants to spare her daughter. But she also recognizes Christian Britain is very different from pagan Ireland.

Kayley does know a fair amount of herblore which she learned from her mother and godmother, Isolde.
