How much does Steve melt, the first time he sees how good Tony is with kids?
anon I am so busy with work but there are so many good li’l prompts in my inbox OH NO WHATEVER SHALL I DO anyways—
obvs there’s the scenario in which steve and tony are already together/in a deeply committed relationship (see also: MARRIED) and are discussing kids and whether or not they want to adopt or use a surrogate or if they should even do it given who they are and what their lives are like (and ofc Tony would have at least one “oh god what if I’m a horrible father like Howard was??” meltdown for some extra ~drama~)
but it’s me, and you know I *live* for pining!Steve, so imagine: Steve (who has been nursing a crush on Tony for ages but doesn’t want to ruin their friendship/doesn’t think he’s good enough/doesn’t think Tony wants him that way/take your pick of Steve angst) volunteers to join Tony at a very Tony-specific event, say, an MIT job fair. lots of smart kids doing smart things way above even Steve’s pay grade all clamoring to work for Stark Industries or intern for the Avengers tech squad or NASA, etc. (Steve would also like to talk to the folks at NASA because let’s not forget our man is an absolute nerd in his own right and would like to volunteer for their next, extra-dangerous space mission...)
Steve basically acts as body-man-slash-Tony’s-time-manager the whole time, because he knows Tony is liable to get tunnel vision if someone comes to him with a particularly good idea. The MIT kids are more interested in the science of Steve than Steve himself, so once he makes it clear that Tony’s the one to talk to about anything super-serum related, they all pretty much leave him alone.
which is fine, because that leaves Steve with extra time to just observe Tony in one of his many elements: talking “cool science stuff” with the next generation of the world’s brightest minds, hands waving around, suit jacket and tie discarded, his hair a mess after running his excited fingers through it one too many times—happy. He gets to watch Tony be happy and excited and genuinely engaged with people who understand him, which makes Steve pine that much harder because Tony can never be that around Steve, of course!! Steve’s not smart or quick enough to even come close :(((
(steve, darling, your low sense of self-worth is showing.)
AND THEN! an older student—I like to imagine a mom who fought tooth and nail to get back into school after having to leave for a number of years to deal with Life Stuff and eventually managed to nab a spot in one of MIT’s grad programs beyond all hope, all on her own—approaches the Stark Industries table with a very fussy, very noisy, very literal baby strapped to her chest.
Steve turns around to tell Tony his 3 o’ clock is here, but oh look, Tony is already there, telling Steve as he passes “oh my god Steve look it’s a baby!” and then stumbling around the table in his excitement, eyes big and round and shining. he the woman’s resume before she can even try to hand it to him (Steve usually is fast enough to intercede) and folds it up and places it in his wallet before he’s asking her—Shantelle, her name is Shantelle—if he can hold the baby while they talk.
so Steve’s helplessly watching as Shantelle unhooks the contraption while Tony holds the baby—Faith, who’s maybe six or seven months old and already has her mother’s eyes—under her arms and then moves her around to cradle her against his chest. Steve watches the two adults move around to the other side of the table out of the throes of traffic to talk, and they do, intensely and excitedly and animatedly, but all the while Tony holds baby Faith in his arms, running a knuckle down the middle of her back and humming under his breath whenever he stops talking. he looks—he looks blissed out, Steve thinks, and Faith is passed out completely, drooling on Tony’s very expensive shirt and gripping his designer sunglasses hanging from his collar in one sticky, chubby fist.
by the end of their half hour meeting, Shantelle has a job at SI and Faith has an ample education fund (K-12 AND college) waiting for her, personal courtesy of Tony Stark. and Steve literally just stares at them the whole time, at the drooling, sleeping baby on Tony’s chest, at the shine in the man’s eyes when he passes her back to her mother, at the smiling way Tony tells Shantelle not to worry about the drool or the crushed glasses, at the wave he sends her off with.
Steve is ready to propose on the spot. he doesn’t, but he imagines it, because he would literally put down his life, his shield, if it meant giving Tony a life in which they could have a family and he’d get to see Tony’s face light up like that every day. it’s such a perfect, beautiful fantasy Steve almost tears up on the spot.
all he manages, after the fair is over and Steve’s talked to the NASA folks and their arms are full of resumes, is “I didn’t know you liked kids so much.” it comes out kinda gruff because he’s still lowkey on the verge of tears just imagining carrying around a baby while Tony makes cooing noises at her or letting her sleep on his chest after he’s passed out on the workshop couch.
meanwhile Tony’s off and babbling about how babies and young kids are purely innocent with zero ulterior motives or cynicism and they just make him look forward to the future that much more because “babies are the purest expression of hope I can imagine” and Steve’s heart CLENCHES, but he says nothing.
later on, he draws Tony like that: fast asleep on the ratty workshop sofa, a baby passed out on his chest, his arm around her to keep her from rolling off, instinctual protectiveness amplified by his being Tony Stark, who would rather die than see someone he loves get hurt.
as Steve shuts the notebook and turns out the light, he imagines the baby opening bright eyes the same color blue as Steve’s and grinning toothlessly when she sees him standing in the workshop doorway. he falls asleep thinking about that. he spends every day of the next week thinking about that. every time he looks at Tony, his subconscious adds a baby, and that shining look in Tony’s eyes. and he wants it. all of it.
finally, after a tough mission and an even tougher de-brief, in the middle of Tony ranting—halfway out of his seat—at Steve about him holding the reins too tight and not letting the team improvise enough, Steve just stares straight into Tony’s eyes and says, “I’ll make it up to you if you let me take you to dinner tonight.”
he doesn’t know where it came from, but it’s worth it given how Tony all but swallows his tongue and just dumbly nods, still halfway out of his seat, hand hanging in the air mid-jabbing finger motion.
that evening, Steve takes him to a Burger King that still has a play area kids can use and delights in watching Tony try to focus on his date with Steve and the gaggle of toddlers in the ball pit on the other side of the glass. it’s the best first date Steve’s ever had (and his last first date, period. naturally).

Wait no please talk abt the Ages....... I also have Several Thoughts but i am curious
Griffin: Is a human woman in her… You would say about her 50s, who is dressed in a very ornate, blue and white robe, holding a white oak staff that is actually fairly plain. It doesn’t really match her decorated outfit. And she says… now I gotta do another voice.
in her fifties, he says, which is to say that she could be anywhere from 50-59 years old. if you subtract the 20 years she lost to wonderland, that’d put her at 30-39, and then if you subtract the ~12 or so years she spent on faerun, that’d put her physical age at 18-27 when she boarded the starblaster.
my unpopular opinion is that it is EXTREMELY UNLIKELY that lucretia was eighteen when she joined the mission!!!
not impossible, i guess! like maybe she skipped a bunch of grades and went to college early. but also??? think about where you were at eighteen. she probably didn’t have a ton of lived experience! when i was eighteen my parents wouldn’t even let me travel one state over by myself. who’s letting this girl leave the planar system???
like why would everybody be cool with just… throwing a teen into the fray with a bunch of significantly older adults??? at least if lucretia’s in her early twenties she might have been living on her own for a few years, for school. if she went to college in her early teens then she was probably still living with her parents!
imo it’s more likely that she was in her early to mid-twenties, 24-27 - still a prodigy, i mean, she canonically had a very successful ghostwriting career up to that point and her first job after that is with fantasy nasa, but she’s also not a fresh-faced kid straight out of senior prom.
“ginny, ur no fun,” i hear u saying. and alas that is probably true. “ginny this is a story about wizards who fight space vore” u say. and again. i hear u.
but in real life a six-month mission to the international space station requires up to five years of training.
WHO IS HIRING A SIXTEEN YEAR OLD TO WORK AT FANTASY NASA!!! THAT’S WHAT I WANT TO KNOW!!!
did she graduate college at age twelve??? when did teen!creesh find the time to both finish school and establish herself in the ghostwriting community and also pad out her resume enough to get hired by FANTASY NASA??? is this why she trained herself to write with both hands??? one to finish her thesis, one with which to write celebrity biographies???
magnus i’m a little more willing to buy because you don’t need to go to school to punch things, but even then i’m like, the kid was at least 21.
like are you trying to tell me magnus and lucretia went to space before they could legally drink??? when they went to the bars with the rest of the crew, did they have to bring their fake ids???????
I CAN ONLY SUSPEND MY DISBELIEF SO FAR!!!

ten years ago as of last week, I made up some characters that I wanted to write a story about. I started it, dropped it after a few chapters, and picked it up again and rewrote it for NaNoWriMo 2010. both of those stories sucked. but the characters stayed with me, and although they've changed in a huge amount of ways over the past decade, I'm still thinking up and daydreaming adventures and stories about them. I've never actually drawn all six of them before, so I figured I'd do so for their tenth anniversary. (side note: one of them is a Japanese guy and one of them is a catboy because I was a huge weeb when I created them and I just haven't had the heart to change them lmao.)
the story is that they're all misfits, and they travel around on this sentient spaceship named Novahaven and have adventures. it's part sci-fi and part fantasy, because in this world magic exists on other planets. the ship is very magical.
in front is Lidamay, from right to left in the middle is Zaetha, Fable, Kiyoshi, and Iris (Kiyoshi and Iris are from Earth), and in the back is Nel. Nel is an android who was actually redesigned six years ago by my buddy @championofdogs (see here)!!! I was in a slump while trying to redesign several of them and he wanted to draw some OCs so I asked him to come up with the design. I tweaked a few things and threw some clothes on him but I tried to stay true to Ivan's design because I love it a lot!
background is from NASA lol
under the cut is some more details about each of them if you're curious!!! and please feel free to ask me any questions because I would not mind talking more about my space children
front: Lidamay is an escaped slave, and the first to find the ship. it had crashed and was dormant on her home planet, and when she found it, it reactivated. she's quiet but decisive and determined, and she's also the de-facto captain, although they're more family than crew. being somewhat isolated in her past, she loves learning about other cultures and their stories. she has wings but can't fly, although it's her goal to figure out why and fix it.
back: NELZAR 11-750 (the numbers mean nothing lol I just pulled them out at random), almost exclusively known as Nel, is an android built by an organization that protects pre-warp planets. he was a beta for an emotion chip; unfortunately, while he's strong, he's also tender-hearted, easily frightened, and a bit narcissistic, which are not traits super great for interstellar law enforcement. he was going to be deactivated, his memories wiped, and further studied before trying again, but Lidamay convinced his creators to let him come with her in exchange for transmitting data on how his emotions develop.
middle, right to left: Zaetha's life was hard because she is a very empathetic but a member of a race bent on domination. it was even harder because she's one of the children of the tyrannical empress. it was even MORE difficult because she has slight clairvoyance, which is a rare trait considered taboo and usually means ritual sacrifice. Zaetha, considering all of these things, stole a shuttle and noped out as soon as she started seeing visions. she's very (possibly overly) friendly and kind, and also very good at diplomacy. also her hair is seaweed and I'm very proud of how it looks.
Fable was a child of aristocratic government folks, he escaped his homeland following a coup by another group of nobles who did not quite have the country’s best interests at heart. he's arrogant and somewhat childish, but not-so-deep down he's a pretty nice guy who hates injustice and is fiercely protective of his adoptive family. he plays the lyre and loves music. (the gold on his face is from when a magical item exploded on him.)
Kiyoshi is a human (?) who's a little different, in a lot of ways, for a bunch of reasons. he lost his parents in a car accident as a kid and ran away from his foster family, who didn't really understand him. he's passionate about science, especially astronomy and astrobiology. he's also the youngest on the ship and has spent the greatest percentage of his life there (not counting Nel who doesn't really have a childhood).
Iris is the last to join, and also human. her mother was a famous Greek ballerina who moved to North America. Iris's mother's life centred around ballet and she tried to shape Iris in her image, but lost interest after Iris lost her leg when she got hit by a car and had to get a prosthetic. Iris is sarcastic, level-headed, and a little bit of a pessimist, but exploring outer space has brought meaning back to her life and let her forge her own path.
the little creature on Iris's head is a pet who likes everyone on the ship but is especially fond of Iris. she named it Phillip.

DEATH BATTLE Review: Captain Marvel vs. Shazam.
The DEATH BATTLE Curse lives on.
Two heroes, with their title and role forced upon them by a mentor now duke it out to see who is a true marvel.
Captain Marvel′s Preview.
Thanks to a certain new movie that’s pretty popular right now, we have a general idea as to who she is. Inspired by her Navy dad, she wanted to be an astronaut. In order to do this, she joined the Air Force. But, one day, she was caught in an explosion from a machine called the Psyche-Magnitron.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since (Plot twist) her mom was actually a Kree all along, Carol wasn’t killed, but instead, she got super powers!
But it was basically like being drunk. Except, instead of driving and ending up running people over with her car, Carol’s ‘drunken’ persona was a hero. Eventually, she figured it all out, and went through a lot of names. Like Ms Marvel, Warbird, Whiz Bang…
Tumblr media
Until one day, a dear friend passed on. Inspired by her mentor, Carol then took  on the name Captain Marvel.
Tumblr media
Captain Marvel has plenty of superhuman abilities. From your standard flight, super strength, speed, and a healing factor. She also has “precognitive awareness” that we’re just going to call a 7th Sense for the sake of this review.
But, Carol’s real power comes in form of her energy absorption. And when she gets enough of it, she basically turns into Moltres from Pokemon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her 7th Sense can give her an edge up on opponents too. As it lets her know what’s going to happen to her on the battlefield. And in her Binary form, she can bust up planets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And what hero rundown would be complete without some impressive feats?
Tumblr media
But Carol is hardly invincible. She’s got her limits on absorption, and her feats only go so far. Also, she doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to magic.
Tumblr media
But, as an Avenger, Air force pilot, a NASA security guard and so much more, Carol’s not one to give up in the face of danger.
Shazam′s Preview.
Thanks to a certain new movie that’s pretty popular right now, we have a general idea as to who he is. Fifteen-Year old Billy Batson was an orphan kid, who didn’t really know the meaning of family. But one day, after running from some bullies, he was whisked away to the Rock of Eternity, where he was given incredible powers that he could access at the shout of a single word:
SHAZAM!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And with that, he became Captain Marvel… Okay, history lesson time.
Tumblr media
See, Marvel kinda got a bit upset about the whole thing kinda intruding on their name. Carol came in about 20 years later than Billy there, but it’s a bit more complex than that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
See, Captain Marvel wasn’t originally made by DC, but by Fawcett Comics as a competitor to Superman (Incidentally, Fawcett is now used regularly in Shazam mythos. Whether it be the city that Billy resides in, or the school he goes to, it’s always there somewhere).
Anyways, DC wasn’t a fan of competition, and took Fawcett to court.
Tumblr media
And they won. Meaning that Captain Marvel is now DC property.
Tumblr media
But then Marvel got in on the game, and it got even more complex from there. Because of how copyright and trademarks worked, there was a bit of a feud of what was going on.
Tumblr media
Long story short, Marvel owned the name, but DC owned the character. So, they battled it out in the courts until DC decided to just name the character Shazam.
Tumblr media
As Shazam, Billy gains access to these powers:
Tumblr media
For the record, Zeus once channeled enough power to destroy the shattered God, a guy who was originally broken by the original Big Bang.
Tumblr media
Shazam also has a lot of other powers to draw from.
Tumblr media
From a healing factor, to the ability to teleport to the Rock of Eternity, to being able to share his power with those he considers family, Billy’s got it all.
Tumblr media
And for those of you who haven’t figured it out, like Boomstick, here’s how the word works:
Tumblr media
With all these powers, he’s pulled off some ridiculous stuff.
Tumblr media
Now, to match the Flash’s speed, Shazam would have to be able to match the Speed Force, which means that Shazam’s best speed would have to match up to about…
Tumblr media
……… Still not a number that’s faster than EXE, but considering that it would be the Speed of Mercury vs. the Speed Force, I’d say that that’s a major move for the Flash.
Shazam also once did this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, he once got hit by a thing called the Tessaract Bomb.
If you’re wondering what it does, then brace yourselves…
Tumblr media
That. He survived thanks to his powers, but the fact that he survived it is impressive.
Of course, Shazam’s experience isn’t that impressive considering… He’s 15. But the fact that he’s managed to keep up with the best of them and be a true hero through and through. That’s one impressive feat for a guy who can basically be described as “The Ultimate Power Fantasy.”
Tumblr media
The Battle Itself.
Zack is lead on animation. Terri Doty will reprise her role as Captain Marvel from before and Shazam will be voiced by Michael Kovach. Since transformation is inevitable, Billy is going to appear and will be voiced by Paige Stork (If someone could link me to her twitter, that would be great. In the meantime, that’s her Roosterteeth profile). Jerky as the sprite artist, Chris Kokkinos ob audio, and music (titled “Marvelous”) by Brandon Yates.
So the battle starts with Billy as Shazam just walking down the street messing around with his powers. Electrifying a lamp post, a car, and an ATM
Tumblr media
An ATM that seems to be filled with… Mr Krabs’ first dollar? Since when do ATMs dispense one-dollar bills?
Anyways, Carol sees this, and since we all know how this would look to anyone without context, Shazam decides to skedaddle. But Carol gives chase, and we have a fight on our hands.
Tumblr media
So, Shazam decides to power through the attacks, and then goes for one of his favorite go-to attacks: Flying the opponent up while grappling them to hit them with lightning.
Tumblr media
But, since Carol’s powerset basically makes this move null, all it does is mega-evolve Carol into her Binary form.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And since Carol retains the properties of the energy she absorbs, she can magic Billy back to his original form.
Caught off-guard (Because there’s no way anyone could see that coming without knowledge of Billy’s origin), Billy transforms back into his Super-Hero persona.
Tumblr media
So, Carol’s kinda mad about the fact that a fifteen-year old kid has been kicking her butt, so she’s done playing games as she charges
Tumblr media
(For the record, this line is way more hammy than the screenshot makes it look. Speaking of, I’m thinking of shrinking the dialogue a bit and adding a background color to it to make the dialogue more visible but hopefully not interfere with the visuals).
Tumblr media
So, after crashing underground for like… three seconds (How deep would that have to be for that to work?), Carol and Shazam exit at a subway station.
Tumblr media
So Shazam brings it back to where it all began.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Right to deep space. So after tossing Carol through three other space rocks
Tumblr media
Shazam gears up for a finishing blow.
5…
4…
3…
2…
1…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Boom!
Tumblr media
… How is it that no matter how badly you annihilate one of these hero-types, some shred of their uniforms somehow always manages to remain intact?
(Shout-out to anyone who knows that line)
Verdict + Explanation.
So, Carol holding her own against the likes of the Phoenix force and other cosmic beings certainly meant that she could hold her own against Shazam’s strength, she kinda fell short in a good chunk of the other categories.
Tumblr media
Take speed, for instance. While Carol’s Binary form could reach the speed of light,
Tumblr media
Shazam could use only a fraction of that to outpace her in that area.
Tumblr media
Experience sorta went to Carol, but the Wisdom of Solomon would certainly close the gap a lot more. It’s really overpowered, to say the least.
Tumblr media
But most importantly, Carol simply didn’t have the means to really take Shazam down in terms of strength.
Now, for the record, when Shazam punched a black hole into existence, he was giant at the time.
Tumblr media
Now, judging by the size of the hole, we can determine the Schwarzchild Radius.
Tumblr media
From there, we can determine the mass of the black hole.
Tumblr media
And then we can figure out how much force it would take to make something like that.
Tumblr media
And in case you’re wondering, a single foe is basically…
Tumblr media
(We still haven’t broken EXE’s record of highest number ever recorded).
And this isn’t some weird outlier either. Zeus was able to destroy the shattered god.
Tumblr media
While he had help from other gods that he was channeling energy through, this still means he has a fraction of that same power. Even if there were a thousand gods helping him out, Zeus’ power would still be, at minimum…
Tumblr media
That level of power.
Credit where it’s due, though…

Overall impression.
Personal opinions aside, the fight was really well-animated, the dialogue was on-the-nose, and the results are what you’d expect. While I still find the comparisons to be shallow at best, the fight’s entertaining.
This isn’t a unique scenario like Flash vs. Quicksilver, nor is it a scenario with deeper comparisons like Venom vs. Bane, this is basically like a horse with a broken leg vs. a farmer with a tank… A tank that’s powered by a nuke!
7.0/10. It’s blatantly one-sided with no unique things about the scenario to make it feel like it was worth it. Outside of the music and animation, the scenario is still a straight fight. It’s not a death race. There’s no real deeper comparisons to be made. It’s just a fight. It’s a good fight, but not a unique one.
Next Time…
Huh… Well, time to see if the tier lists are lore complicit.
Tumblr media
If we’re going off of Smash tier lists, then Wario takes it.
Is there a fight that you want me to review? - Send an ask/request, and I’ll look into it!
Do you want to read my fanfic based around DEATH BATTLE itself? click here!
Thank you for reading, and I hope to see you next time for…
King vs Waa!

Say Hello to the New BrickNerd Team
There was an idea to bring together a group of remarkable LEGO people to see if they could become something more. Nine countries and at least ten languages later, we have gathered a team of incredible builders, writers, historians and artists to make connections across continents and showcase the best the global LEGO fan community has to offer. BrickNerds, assemble!
We are excited to share our love of LEGO, some intriguing stories, building talent and opinions while highlighting many amazing creations and creators within the AFOL community. We come from diverse backgrounds, generations, locations and demographics, and invite you to join us in dialogue as we explore the awesome nerdiness that is LEGO. Let’s meet the team!

Sergio Rojas
Sergio is from Chile, and builds pop culture, nature, art, and more. He is a member of ChileLUG, and you can find him on Instagram and Flickr.
“Photography and pop culture were the fuel to restart the LEGO passion in me after a long dark ages years ago when there wasn't a LEGO community in Chile. Lucky for me more people were looking for AFOLs to share their hobby and so we founded ChileLUG. But for me not only are the builds interesting, also getting to know how people live their hobby all around the world: their LEGO rooms, the creative process, local conventions and more.”
Simon Liu
Simon lives in Canada and loves Sci-Fi, Space, Mecha, Greebles, and all things contest-related. He is a member of ToroLUG, RebelLUG, OraphanLUG and EscapeLUG. You can find him on Flickr, Instagram and YouTube.
“Hey I'm Simon, I like building Sci-Fi — mainly so that I can systematically shove the cutest creature in little mech suits. I've been in the community for a few years now, but I still feel like I'm a new kid on the block with so many aspects of community I have yet to meet and such deep established roots. But early on I realized what an amazing impact the community can have, so I've been sneaking my way and trying to see as much as I can, and hopefully you can see some of the LEGO community through my eyes via some sort of brain to text technology!”
Sue Ann Barber
Sue Ann lives in Australia, and is mostly interested in unusual LEGO themes like Scala, Clickits and Fabuland as well as building standards like Micropolis, Miniland Scale, Minifig Habitats and Brick Bending. She is a member of MUGs (Melbourne LEGO User Group) and Brickventures, and you can find her on her Brick Room Blog and The Plastic Brick House.

Ted Andes
Ted lives in Kentucky (USA) and loves contests, Trains, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Speederbikes, Collabs, and more. You can find him on Flickr.
“I’m a MOC builder based in Louisville, KY (USA), drawn to building in sci-fi and fantasy themes and finding creative ways to seamlessly use System/Technic/Constraction parts in my builds. I tend to write articles more about the human elements of the building hobby than those little plastic ones that we all adore.”
Will Fong
Will lives in Canada and loves Trains, Battle Bricks and Robots. He is a member of VLC, and you can find him on Flickr, Instagram and Battle Bricks.
“I started building in 2016. I focus on building public transit vehicles, and I am also the theme coordinator for Battle Bricks fighting robots at BrickCan and BrickCon. Most of my content revolves around what I do and how you too can build fighting robots.”

Still working out during the quarantine. Sometimes I joke about losing weight and trying to look good while being blacklisted since 2007 after filing sexual harassment against The Galt House Hotel and Molly Ellis.
I have been burned, raped, neurally raped, gang stalked, exploited and humiliated and degraded by people I thought I could trust and I cared about but no one means more to me than my own daddy. I lost my dad after moving to Kentucky and becoming blacklisted and I was told in 2018 that he died of a heart attack. I was told carelessly and without compassion and my dad's nephew who my dad helped raise and put into private schools isn't trying to tell me where my dad has been buried. I believe in karma. I am a vicitm of rape, torture, fraud, organized crime and I have 13 years of documentation and proof. The video's that I post about neural rape and directed energy weapons have been sponsored and the people who are on Truthstream Media get paid to talk about universal mind control and nerual rape and brain hacking. I may look as if I am alone but I am not alone. I could not be online today backing up my own story without all the people and and years of work put into exposing satellite terrorism.
I have named people by name, companies and I have posted script that prove our presidents, senators, state representatives, governor's and judges are brutally raping people who were born into programs like "Blue Bird Project" and I meet hundreds and hundreds and now thousands of people when I go into these warehouse locations that work with agencies like Cointel Pro, Infargard, Darpa and Nasa and NSA and I am laid off, fired after enduring months of physical abuse and rape and mobbing. I have proof that organized crime is basically everywhere: Colleges, education programs, clinic's like Norton's and Portland Clinic in Kentucky. CSL plasma clinics use their phlebotomist to rape you and torture you with thick needles. I reported CSL plasma so much I have been deferred. Once I was stuck by a white man named Tommy who told me black people only change the world if they are beaten like Rodney King. I was also tortured by a black man there who told me he works with the feds and he tortured me with the plasma needle which is very thick. Organized crime is now a part of work places and it will and is now like a military base. What happens to people in the military? They kill, stalk, rape women and girls and boys and men including their own. Soilders have to be dehumanized. And it has been said that people will work around 9 out of 10 informates. Let me explain this...I was raped at Yamamoto FB and NHK and people gas lit me and triggered me about rape and mental telepathy and being cooked to a boil sweating at work. So now my kids if I had some don't have to join the army to be dehumanized or raped. Now, you can have standards and say "I am not having sex." And you can still be neurally and mentally raped. And men you work with and women can gas light you about sex with the perpetrator as if you really had physical and consenting sex with him. Or her. I was neurally raped at Yamamoto FB and men told me the perpetrator would ruin my wet dreams. I was told thay I love fucking white men and that I prefer small dicks. I was mocked about mind to mind telepathy. And a man kept asking me if I could feel and see him think sexual thoughts of him. I was told I was under operation Batman (my supervisor Bruce Bradford a marine was called Batman, The Hulk and Bruce Almighty). I was tortured from 12-2018 through 09-2019 until I was fired for making a threat in text. I texted a so called friend and told her that my HR Manager Heidi L. Dean has a son and that karma and life will show her that she has aided rapists and been involved in organized crime way too long. I am not the first woman at Yamamoto FB that was bullied out after being sexually assaulted. I was sexually assaulted by a man who slapped my ass and yelled "you are not a lesbian. You're bisexual." Same man that told me I love white dick as if he knew I was being neurally raped or "day dreaming" of sexual fantasies.
Mind control is universal. Some women and men have no clue about it and the crazy part is...you can be mind controlled to be angry. You can be mind controlled to focus on depression. And you can be mind controlled not knowing it and have sex with the person you are mind controlled of. I have been told my two men who worked for Yamamoto FB that Troy Smith was fired along with Bruce Bradford. And that Bruce had sex with a woman that just started working there and he called her a bitch and they fired him.
Its wild when you are targeted and mobbed and you know that this man made himself an accessory to organized crime. I left the dept. Bruce worked in and he was allowed to hoover me for 45m to 2 hours a day in another dept. before I moved to 2nd shift to get away from him. Its wild to be a target and know men like Troy Smith can gas you like he mind reads and men like Bruce and Darryl Keels...women are sleeping with rapists and I know it and its just wild. The plant manager at Yamamoto named Darryl Keels is still there.
People need to prepare their kid's to be mind strong. Knowledge is power. Your child can become a target for reporting a co worker or for exposing a slum landlord. I was targeted and I dropped the lawsuit against The Galt House hotel.
We are now living in a world were veteran's that killed and raped and stalked and harmed get desk jobs and become supervisors...there is a cop who sodomized a girl who was arrested on camera in jail. And he got a desk job and salary pay. So...when I went into Yamamoto FB and all these other companies involved in organized crime...I walked into a field of men who have raped, trafficked drugs through the company and after they mob me and rape me...they are still there for another person. I am blacklisted. Everyone is targeted, exploited and tracked.

Weight lifting is this planetary scientist’s pastime
A love of magnetic rocks, old machines and space recently led Beck Strauss to a dream job at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. The path to that career wasn’t always clear. Yet it’s a perfect fit for someone who has studied everything from the cave formations called stalagmites to lava flowing on the planet Mercury.
Strauss is a planetary geophysicist who studies the magnetic fields of planets and how those fields are recorded in rocks. Electric currents deep within the Earth’s rocky core form a strong magnetic field. (That’s what causes magnets in compass needles to point north.) Understanding how magnetic fields change over time can tell researchers not only about the surface, but also about what’s inside a planet.
At NASA, Strauss is zapping rocks with laser beams to figure out how old they are. This scientist also is developing sensors to detect the moon’s magnetic field.
Like a compass, Strauss has helped guide other researchers too. Strauss identifies as both transgender and non-binary and uses the pronouns “they” and “them.” A transgender person’s identity doesn’t match the gender they were assigned at birth. Instead of male or female, non-binary people can feel like they’re both genders, neither or somewhere in the middle.
Tumblr media
At first, Beck Strauss wanted to study English in college. But an exciting lesson about how the continents are moving and a funny professor convinced them to study geology instead. Courtesy of B. Strauss
A few years ago, Strauss began working at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, Md. They wanted to join an LGBTQ+ employee club. They figured such a club would help them to make friends and be supported at work. But the club no longer existed. So Strauss formed a new one for employees and ran it for 18 months. The group helped get gender-neutral bathrooms on the campus. And it made NIST more welcoming to a diverse community of scientists.
In this interview, Strauss recalls their experiences and shares advice with Science News for Students. (The interview has been edited for content and readability.)
What inspired you to pursue your career?
Getting to this very specific career has been a long journey. When I was in high school, I wanted to be an English major because I really liked writing and I really liked reading. Then I got to Oberlin College in Ohio and took a couple of English courses. And it turns out I really didn’t like it very much.
But I was taking a class at the time that was a geology class for non-majors. (By that, they mean the class was for people not majoring in geology.) The professor in the class told us how the continents got to where they are today. He described how the Indian subcontinent slammed into the continent of Asia and is continuing to move northward. And this is why the Himalayas are growing.
Explainer: Understanding plate tectonics
I thought that was the coolest thing I had ever heard. So I basically agreed to declare a geology major. I signed up for the intro class. It was taught by a professor who, if science hadn’t worked out, could have been a stand-up comedian. I had a fantastic time in that course. So it’s been a series of decisions where I’ve just kept an eye out for the things that I found surprising and exciting.
How did you get where you are today?
During college I did a summer internship in a lab at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis that was studying rock magnetism. I decided to do that internship because I read the description and it sounded cool. After I did that internship, I decided that I wanted to go to grad school.
Scientists Say: Stalactite and stalagmite
At the University of Minnesota, where I got my PhD, I was in this rock magnetism research lab. I noticed when I went over to the chemistry department that a lot of the professors had stickers on their doors with a rainbow or triangle that said that they were LGBTQ allies. I started hanging out in the chemistry department more because I felt comfortable and welcomed there. I got to talking with a professor who was also interested in magnetism and [we] ended up deciding to collaborate to do some research on stalagmites.
More recently, at that university, I was in the right place at the right time when someone said, “Hey, I have a project that we need someone to do. Are you interested in looking at Mercury?” And I said, “Absolutely!” because I’ve always thought space is cool. I also noticed that planetary science as a community seemed really excited about diversity and really excited about inclusion.

How do you get your best ideas?
I think my best ideas come from two places. One is that I really like having friends who are not scientists because they have really good questions about the science that I do. Sometimes my friends ask questions that they’re afraid are silly. Or a waste of time. But it turns out they’re getting at things that are actually really incredibly important to the kinds of work that we want to do. If I only ever talked to scientists who do the same thing that I do, I wouldn’t hear all of these cool, weird, exciting ideas that come from all different places.
The other is I actually get a lot of ideas from movies and TV shows. I watch a lot of science-fiction movies and a lot of fantasy movies. And there are a lot of ideas about what a world could look like if it didn’t have the same rules that we have. I think that’s a really fun thing to try to apply real-world science to. It can turn from a silly, fun exercise that you do with your friends into a, “Hey, wait a second! What if we actually…?” kind of question.
What’s one of your biggest successes?
Tumblr media
Beck Strauss adjusts a magnet power supply with a screwdriver. Strauss has fixed many old lab machines to help them keep revealing important information about magnetic rocks. Courtesy of B. Strauss
Some of the work that I’ve been the most proud of is the work I did as a postdoctoral researcher. I was at Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J. I worked at the Paleomagnetism Lab in 2016 and 2017. (In paleomagnetism, scientists use old rocks, sediments and other materials to study Earth’s magnetic field.) When I started at that lab, it was basically one big empty room and a second room with some old instruments that needed some love. And when I finished at that lab, it had six or seven totally operational research instruments. By the time I was done, they were spitting out data, basically ready for publication.
Part of my job was working on this one machine that’s nearly as old as I am. I had to figure out a way to get it to start working again in a way that would let not just me, but also the students in the lab, run it from a modern computer. I’m really proud of that work. That’s not only because of how many instruments I was able to get running again. But also because this was a lab that was taking students for the first time. With the instruments I worked on, the very first grad student has been able to present her work at a couple of conferences and has been working on papers to publish in journals.
What’s one of your biggest failures, and how did you get past that?
My philosophy as a scientist is that we need failures in order to learn how to succeed. I do a lot of lab research. And I work with a lot of machines. And sometimes I make mistakes.
I broke almost every instrument in my PhD lab at least once. One is called a SQUID magnetometer. SQUID is an acronym that stands for Superconducting Quantum Interference Device, which sounds like it’s from a sci-fi movie. I also exploded a sample in an oven one time. But I helped fix everything that I broke, and that meant I got to learn how the instruments really worked and what was going on inside them.
It can be really frustrating when you break one of these instruments. They’re really complicated and they’re really expensive. And it makes people really nervous. But every single time I would run into a problem like, “Oh, no, I dropped my sample,” or, “I flipped the wrong switch,” it was an opportunity to learn how to get better at doing my job by figuring out how to fix the mistake.

As part of a weightlifting competition, Beck Strauss pulled a car across a parking lot. In training, Strauss did the same with a truck.Suzanne Witt
What do you do in your spare time?
I have two main hobbies right now. One hobby is that I make art: I draw and make collages. And I got to show my art in an art show this summer for the very first time, which was really cool. I really like scientific illustration. This is art focused on creating useful depictions of things like acorns and shells and hands and things that you find in the real world.
My other hobby is that in the spring of 2019 I got into weightlifting, which is not a sentence that I ever expected myself to say. But I have a friend who is a chemical engineer. She posted a video on social media of her pulling a truck. She said, “You know, I bet you could pull a truck if you wanted to.” I thought she was kidding. But it turns out she was right. So this past October, I competed in an all-gender competition, and I pulled a pickup truck across the parking lot.
What piece of advice do you wish you had been given when you were younger?
The two pieces of advice that I always give are, number one: It’s OK to make choices about your career based on what feels good. By that I mean things like, it’s OK to decide who you want to collaborate with because they’re fun to work with or because you feel comfortable around them. It’s OK to decide what kind of science you want to do because it lets you go to the places you want to go.
The other one that I would tell myself is: Run toward the things that you are nervous about loving. If you are so excited about something that it scares you, you’re probably still going to be excited about it a decade later.
This Q&A is part of a series exploring the many paths to a career in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). It has been made possible with generous support from Arconic Foundation.

Con Review: Silicon Valley Comic Con 2018
Silicon Valley Comic Con returned to San Jose for another big year, bringing a plethora of comic and TV stars to the city. Held at the San Jose Convention Center, the event spanned three days filled with things to do and see.
The convention offered a nice array of events and activities, with a wide range of panels covering topics from cosplay to illustrations. While there were multiple panel rooms off in the side halls, the largest area was set aside for the main events, where the big guests would speak in moderated panels before packed crowds.
For those who couldn’t get through the lines into the panel room, though, the convention wisely set up television screens around the area to stream the event. That way even those who couldn’t find a seat would still be able to watch and enjoy the main events.
Outside the main halls, there were a few areas of interest for people wandering around. There was a kids’ area, with hands-on activities for younger attendees, as well as an area to teach people the basics of lightsaber fighting. Adam Savage of “Mythbusters” fame had a room to showcase some of his projects, and several arcade and pinball games were set up in a spacious area.
One new addition was an area for “Dungeons & Dragons” organized play, sponsored by the Bay area Gamer Guild. They had experienced dungeon masters running Adventurers League modules throughout the weekend, specifically chosen to be good introductions for new players, and offered pre-generated characters to let anyone join. First-time adventurers were always welcomed, with DMs willing to walk them through the game’s mechanics.
Inside the main hall, attendees were welcomed to multiple rows of vendors and dealers. There were all the usual trappings of a convention, from comics to collectible figures, but there were also booths for NASA or a tattoo parlor specializing in nerdy designs. There was also an artist alley of decent size, featuring a nice array of fan artists selling their wares.
Naturally, there were plenty of cosplayers wandering around. Attendees of all ages wore their favorite costumes, representing a wide array of series and genres. Of course, as many came to see the guests, there was no shortage of Hobbits, time travelers, or alcoholic super-powered private eyes.
Yes, SVCC went all-out with the guests this year. Stan Lee was a headliner, of course, although while he had recovered from his bout with pneumonia, he was still rather tired throughout the weekend. Drawing equally large crowds was David Tennant, known for his role as the 10th Doctor in “Doctor Who,” Killgrave in “Jessica Jones,” and the new voice of Scrooge McDuck in “Ducktales.”
The heroine of “Jessica Jones,” Krysten Ritter, was also in attendance, along with Freema Agyeman, who played Martha Jones in “Doctor Who” alongside David.
“Star Wars” fans also had plenty of great guests to meet, such as Ian McDiarmid, Ray Park, and Temuera Morrison. For those who prefer fantasy to sci-fi, they could meet Sean Astin, who played Samwise Gamgee in “Lord of the Rings.”
Yet the guest list didn’t stop there, with even more guests ranging from actors to comic artists to particularly popular cosplayers. Some were doing meet-and-greets with fans, others had paid autograph sessions and photo ops which could cost anywhere from $40 to well over $100, depending on the guest. Attendees had to budget wisely to meet the guests they really wanted to see.
There was a noticeable increase in security this year, following events at other comic cons where attendees brought in weapons. In addition to peace bonding props and having attendees scan their wristbands upon entering and exiting, there were metal detectors and bag checks set up upon entry. Overall, though, they didn’t slow down entry that much, and the need for added security is understandable in today’s environment.
Overall, Silicon Valley Comic Con 2018 proved an enjoyable event, with a wide range of guests to see and activities to enjoy. For those looking for a comic con experience in the bay area, it’s certainly a fine choice.
