Characters that make you go “I want them to be happy, but even if the monstrous elements came from circumstances that were horrific and painful and is inherently connected to the situation that would need to be solved for them to be happy in context, returning them to what they were before, unchanged and truly mundane feels like its own kind of tragedy- like being able to save a pegasus only by cutting off its wings, a unicorn by removing its horn. Maybe it’s necessary for the overall wellbeing of the character, of the story, sure, and I can accept that-
But also, maybe sometimes I want a story where they remain changed, even when the result is entirely non-humanoid in shape and form. Perhaps they’re even healed in a way that drives them even further away from what they once were/seemed to be, even more monstrous outwardly but in a way that frees them of the pain they were in, able to live happy, safe, loved, and monstrous all as they are-
