We had one of those rare windless days the last time we were at White Sands National Park outside of Alamogordo, NM I of course only had black and white film which I soon learned wasn’t great at showing how interesting the scene was. I was using the 90mm lens. White Sands National Park Interdune Boardwalk October 15th 2022. 275 square miles of gypsum sand and is the world’s largest gypsum sand dunefield. Seeing this gorgeous white sand rise from the desert was something I’ll never forget. As I walked for miles and miles over July 4th Weekend in @WhiteSandsNPS, I noticed 99% of the #yucca had already gone to seed with the seed pods cracked and disbursed. Then, in rare cases, came these miraculous #LateBloomers still expending whatever energy they could muster up to launch their flowers!? My hypothesis is that the blowing gypsum sands end up covering some of the plants in sand storms and so they arrive late to the game and I was lucky to catch wind of it! 𝙳𝙴𝚂𝙴𝚁𝚃 • 𝚃𝚁𝙸𝙿 06/21 - 06/27 ✨🏜🦅🚗💨 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐟𝐚 is a permanent sculptural art installation situated 26 miles northwest of Marfa in Valentine, TX. Old Hollywood had its moment when 𝘎𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘵 was filmed in Marfa around 1955, which portrayed the West Texas ranching lifestyle. Marfa has since gentrified into an artist’s hub; as we learned from a local who gave us a bit of the town’s socio-economic history. Thanks for making us coffees at @thesentinelmarfa and giving us all the recommendations @kin_kane___xo ✌🏼 🐎 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸, 𝗡𝗠 The pristine gypsum beauty caught me off guard as we approached its bleach-white horizon. Even with the cloud cover, it feels like an oven; lather up and hydrate. Like the Velvet Underground’s album White Light, White Heat. I saw many different animal tracks though most wildlife come out in the coolness of nightfall. 🐍 𝕄𝕖𝕠𝕨 𝕎𝕠𝕝𝕗, 𝕊𝕒𝕟𝕥𝕒 𝔽𝕖 You can probably spend a whole day inside this immersive museum!
