Safest Compact Suv 2020
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SUVs are really popular vehicles these days, and the smaller ones are a popular size for buyers, too. Many buyers also have safety high on their must-have list, especially since SUVs are great for transporting families. Carfax recently took a look at some safe small SUVs, and Mazda ranks highly on both the compact and subcompact lists. The 2020 Subaru Forester and 2020 Mazda CX-5 top the list of safest compact SUVs, while the 2020 Mazda CX-3 and 2021 Hyundai Kona lead the list of safest subcompact SUVs.

Additional safety features, including blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert, are options. The top Touring trim also includes additional safety features, like reverse automatic braking and DriverFocus, which helps cut down on distracted and fatigued driving.
The 2020 Forester comes standard with all-wheel drive, providing the SUV with great traction. It also comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The 2020 Forester is also an IIHS 2020 Top Safety Pick+. It received a five out of five from the NHTSA.

2021 Lexus RX 450h is a comfy crossover with troublesome tech

2021 Lexus RX 450h is a comfy crossover with troublesome tech
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The expressively styled Lexus RX is smooth and coddling.
Craig Cole/Roadshow
The 2021 Lexus RX 450h F Sport hybrid crossover is sinuous, frugal and impressively quiet — exactly what I want in a luxury vehicle. There is, however, one aspect of this Lexus that’s unforgivable, a mortal sin that drags down an otherwise pleasant vehicle: the infotainment system.
Like
Stellar Mark Levinson sound system
Spacious and comfortable backseat
Exemplary refinement
Don’t Like
Loathsome infotainment system
Too-aggressive exterior styling
Meh real-world fuel economy
Hybrid versions of the RX come standard with all-wheel drive, but this example is also fitted with the F Sport package, which includes dress-up items like a unique grille, aluminum pedal covers, 20-inch wheels and even performance dampers. For extra sportiness, a $970 handling package is also offered, bringing an adaptive suspension system, retuned power steering and more goodies to the table. Beyond those F Sport upgrades, my tester features the Black Line Special Edition package. The good news is this upgrade costs just $685 and includes special body-side graphics, a black grille surround and a Halliburton Edge lightweight two-piece luggage set. The bad news is the Black Line Special Edition package is limited to just 750 gas-powered RXs and 250 hybrid models.
The Lexus RX’s styling is certainly aggressive, with its comically large grille, angular headlamps and chiseled surfacing, but its interior is much more restrained and pleasant. The cabin’s quality is stellar and its materials are generally very good. The headliner and roof pillars are wrapped in a flannel-like fabric, soft plastics are used liberally throughout and nearly all the switches and knobs feel slickly lubricated. Sure, you’ll find a smattering of Toyota-sourced buttons here and there; stuff you get in, say, a Camry, but these carryover controls are well hidden and hardly objectionable.
Just behind this Lexus’ unusually deep dashboard, the front bucket chairs are all-day comfortable and attractive, rendered in black and white with contrasting blue stitching, a combo that’s also part of the Black Line Special Edition package. Storage space up front is good, consisting of a decently sized bin under the center armrest, a few other small cubbies on the console and generously proportioned front door pockets that pop outward when you pull on them. Moving rearward, the RX’s backseat is nearly sprawl-out spacious, with plenty of legroom and a decent amount of noggin space. Comfortable cushions provide great support, with the lower one being a nice distance above the floor for a chair-like seating position. Providing easy access, this Lexus’ rear doors open nice and wide.
But now for some bad news. If there’s a worse infotainment system than what’s offered in this Lexus, I’m not aware of it. With a bewildering user interface as well as a clunky and difficult-to-use control pad on the console, this multimedia system is half laptop, half low-end Android tablet and all kinds of terrible. Not only is the menu structure confusing, the track pad you use to navigate through it is kludgy, making even simple tasks a distracting chore. Rubbing salt in the wound, this RX 450h is also fitted with the top-shelf 12.3-inch screen (an 8-incher is standard), which is bundled in a $3,365 options package, so you’re paying thousands more for an awful experience. At least that outlay also gets you embedded navigation and a superb Mark Levinson sound system that makes even highly compressed MP3s and muddy satellite radio come alive. While a bit of a reach, the RX’s infotainment screen is touch-enabled, so you can skip the trackpad, but only if your arms are lanky enough. Thankfully, this system also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (as well as Amazon Alexa), so you don’t have to use the infotainment system any longer than it takes to plug your phone in. The vehicle’s six USB ports ensure everyone’s mobile devices are fully juiced; a wireless charging pad is also available.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The RX’s interior is extremely well built and refined, though its infotainment tech leaves much to be desired.
Craig Cole/Roadshow
The Lexus RX was updated in 2020, gaining a stiffened structure and revised suspension for better handling. This year, the vehicle gains some new technology, including blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, both of which are now standard across the range. Auto-dimming, power-folding mirrors are included at no extra charge, too, as is Lexus Safety System Plus 2.0, a suite of driver aids that includes daytime cyclist detection, low-light pedestrian detection, road sign recognition and lane-keeping assist. Thankfully, I have not had an opportunity to test the pedestrian-detecting systems, but the lane-keeping aid is gentle yet quite effective.
Underway, the RX 450h is one smooth operator. Whether you’re traversing frost-heaved highways, tiptoeing along a cratered dirt road or just cruising around your subdivision, this Lexus’ ride is always sinuous. Even rolling on 20-inch wheels, small expansion joints barely register and larger impacts are easily deflected, all with no harshness or gritty vibration percolating through to the passenger compartment. Despite its smooth ride, the RX 450h’s body is decently controlled. Sure, it could feel a bit tighter in corners and it might be nice if the steering were quicker and heftier, but the whole chassis feels so well balanced that these changes aren’t necessary, plus they might ruin the fluffy ride, which would be a shame.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Refined, punchy and economical, there’s little to complain about regarding the RX 450h’s powertrain.
Craig Cole/Roadshow
Matching its over-the-road refinement, the RX’s cabin remains incredibly silent, quieter than naptime in a nursing home, with almost no wind, tire or engine noise being heard. The RX 450h’s hybrid powertrain is built around a 3.5-liter V6, one augmented by two electric motor-generators up front that form a continuously variable transmission, and a separate motor at the rear, which provides all-wheel drive. Whispering while it works, this arrangement provides a net 308 horsepower, though a torque figure is not listed because the math with hybrids is weird. On its own, however, the V6 engine whips up 247 pound-feet of twist. The RX 450h’s easy handling and all-wheel drive add immensely to my confidence one day as the weather goes from drab to dangerous, with a winter storm dumping sleet on the roadways.
Stand on the accelerator and this Lexus scoots. Performance, while not awe-inspiring, is still very good, the engine sounding like it’s operating far off in the distance rather than a few inches ahead of your toes. The hybrid parts of this drivetrain are similarly polished, barely drawing any attention to themselves. The brake pedal is also friendly, with a seamless transition between regenerative and friction braking. For added versatility, the RX 450h offers an EV mode, which allows you to run it solely on electrons. The onboard battery pack has enough juice for you to sneak down a cul-du-sac or into the garage without running the engine, but as soon as you go too fast or prod the throttle too aggressively the engine fires up. Remember, this is not a plug-in hybrid, so electric-only range is not the primary focus.
Cutting fuel consumption, however, is one of this Lexus’ main objectives. Expect 31 miles per gallon in the city and 28 mpg on highway drives. In mixed use, the RX 450h should return 30 mpg, however, in the real world I only average around 25.1, a disappointing score. It’s typically a breeze to meet or even exceed advertised fuel-economy scores in Toyota hybrids, which makes this performance (or lack thereof) a bit of a surprise.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Lexus RX is something of a mixed bag.
Craig Cole/Roadshow
With its upscale interior, refined manners and, yes, unfortunate infotainment tech, a base 2021 Lexus RX 450h starts at just shy of $49,000, including $1,025 in destination fees. That’s about $2,650 more than an entry-level, front-wheel-drive, non-hybrid RX 350. As it sits, this F Sport example checks out for $59,380, a figure goosed by a few add-ons like a $200 wireless charger, $640 heated and ventilated front seats, $1,365 for parking assist and a 360-degree camera system, plus a few additional goodies. Still, that outlay gets you a family-friendly vehicle that’s more docile and refined than the sportier Acura MDX and, thanks to its aggressive styling (which you may or may not love), more visually interesting than a Lincoln Nautilus or Mercedes-Benz GLC.
There’s an abundance of luxury crossovers available today, great examples from German, American and Asian automakers. Plenty of them offer upscale interiors and loads of fancy features, but few are as refined, fuel efficient — and in one particular way — frustrating as this mostly likable Lexus.

2020 Honda Pilot vs. 2020 Acura MDX: Contrast Crossovers
Put one out for the old family members van. Just put it out of the back home windows with the vents, would ya? A generation of children will certainly never recognize church seats with seat belts in the rear of a tin-can van slowly petering across the UNITED STATE Rather, they recognize crossover comfort with personalized environment controls and USB battery chargers for all the touchscreens.
The 2020 Honda Pilot as well as 2020 Acura MDX are three-row family members crossovers from car manufacturers that are both owned by Honda, but are unrelated.[bmw soft close automatic doors manufacturer]
The Pilot is a much softer family ride, a minivan in every method besides the gliding doors as well as wayback windows for third-row riders to launch apple cores as well as grapes at cars behind them. The MDX is sportier, sleeker, and readily available as a fuel-sipping hybrid. Our TCC Score range ideas the Acura thanks to its conventional features as well as deluxe flight baked into every model. When price is considered the stakes align in a huge means-- and also almost every household thinks about cost when it's time for a new vehicle. So which one is right for you? Happy you asked. The obvious distinction for the majority of households taking into consideration the 2020 Honda Pilot and also 2020 Acura MDX will be area in the 3rd row as well as freight area.
The Pilot supplies a third row appropriate for a lot of kids and average-size grownups with nearly 32 inches of leg space, as well as 16.5 cubic feet of cargo room with the 3rd row in position. The MDX is smaller in both measurements: almost 28 inches of leg room as well as 15.0 cubic feet of freight space with the third row in place. What that indicates for most family members: The Pilot's 3rd row is a lot more usable, much more easily accessible (particularly with optional second-row captain's chairs), more frequently. The MDX is outfitted with a common second-row bench in all variations. The Acura's interior is predictably upscale for the $12,850 rate costs it commands over the Honda. The MDX gets common leather upholstery, a dual-screen infotainment system, 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, as well as four USB ports. For even more money, the MDX can get sportier-looking attachments, better audio, rear-seat amusement, navigating, tonier natural leather, and larger wheels. All-wheel drive is an option on the MDX and also costs $2,000, other than on the MDX crossbreed, where it's conventional. That hybrid powertrain is an Acura unique; no amount of money can buy a crossbreed powertrain in a Pilot in the meantime.[get more]
The Pilot's adept in a lot of its equipment, but only in trims over the base Pilot LX. That version stubs in a 5.0-inch screen for infotainment and one USB port, together with fabric upholstery, 18-inch wheels, and also front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is a $2,000 upcharge on the Pilot too, other than on Elite editions where it's conventional.

2020 Lexus RX 350 Price Increase Comes With Updated Tech
Lexus has made some significant changes to its popular midsize SUV for the new model year. Along with an updated exterior design, a stiffer suspension, and more standard safety equipment, the 2020 Lexus RX 350 gets some much-needed infotainment updates. It also comes with a higher price tag of $45,175.
The Lexus RX’s price is on par with the base 2020 Acura MDX, priced from $45,395. And it’s up just $330 from last year’s RX. Substituting front-wheel drive for all-wheel drive brings the price up to $46,575.
The F Sport, which gets sportier dampers and Sport+ drive mode, starts at $48,975 with front-wheel drive and $50,375 with all-wheel drive. The top-of-the-line F Sport Performance package adds an active variable suspension from the LC, cold air intake, electric power steering, and active sound control—all for a starting price of $51,375. The three-row RX 350L is priced from $48,325, or $49,725 with all-wheel drive.
For 2020, the RX finally offers Android Auto. New touchscreens are available; an 8.0-inch touchscreen is standard and a 12.3-inch unit is optional. Lexus also throws in two additional USB ports on the 2020 RX for a total of six. Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 is now standard equipment, adding low-light pedestrian detection and daytime cyclist detection. The safety suite also brings road sign assist and lane tracing assist, which detects road markings and helps center the RX when adaptive cruise control is on.
Power still comes from a 3.5-liter V-6 making 295 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque. Although engine output remains the same, Lexus promises a smoother ride on the RX with retuned shocks and improved dampers. If it’s the 308-hp hybrid powertrain you’re looking for, the RX 450h goes for $47,775 and up. As we expressed in our First Drive, our initial impressions of the new RX’s ride quality were positive.
Production has already begun, so the 2020 Lexus RX and RXL will arrive in dealerships soon.

Want a 2019 Acura NSX for $20,000 off?
Fancy a high-tech supercar with a load of cash on the hood to help defray the downpayment? The 2019 Acura NSX has a $20,000 discount off whatever price you can negotiate.
The incentive is not listed on the Acura.com consumer website, but research by MotorTrend affiliate IntelliChoice into JATO Dynamics data uncovered the secret incentive on the exotic hybrid, which starts at $159,300. And it’s not going away any time soon, as JATO says the incentive has been booked through March 31, 2020.
Although Acura updated the 2019 NSX to our liking, sales of the NSX had been slowing. In 2018, Acura sold only 170 units, compared to a still-modest 581 in 2017 and 269 in an abbreviated 2016. So far, the incentive appears to be working; much of the NSX’s 42 percent year-to-date sales increase came after the incentive was quietly launched in mid-March.
Sales of high-priced, low-volume exotic vehicles are more prone to the whims of those One Percenters who want the latest, greatest tech. As such, sales show more volatility on a percentage basis month to month. Usually, executives of mass-market brands give those niche sales numbers little notice compared to their volume vehicles. But having exotic cars stacking up is not a good look.
The $20,000 incentive is the highest-known incentive in the industry. Next closest is $9,000 consumer cash on the aging Jaguar XJ, according to IntelliChoice. That said, information for niche supercar brands is not readily available, as the brands tend to be discreet and use non-cash discounts (such as factory-to-dealer cash for under-the-table discounts or lease-residual subvention) to move the sheetmetal.
Acura spokesman Andrew Quillin said the incentive is limited to the 2019 model, “of which there are just a handful of U.S. allocations remaining before we shift focus to [model year 2020]. The incentive provides an enticement to those buyers considering one of the final few build-to-order slots.”
Further, when viewed as a percentage of MSRP, the incentive on NSX is less than 14 percent. “These larger-than-usual amounts generally align with incentives for other segments,” Quillin said. “NSX continues to play a critical role in our effort to refocus Acura around performance, both on road and track.”
Decreasing demand for supercars
Acura is not alone in seeing its exotic car sales decline. According to auto sales tracking website GoodCarBadCar, sales of “premium sports cars” fell from 21,034 in 2017 to 18,188 last year. The BMW i8, for example, saw sales drop from 2,265 units in 2016 to 488 in 2017 before rebounding to 772 last year; through April of this year, it has seen a 42-percent increase. And the venerable Nissan GT-R saw sales fall to 538 last year from several years in the 1,200-unit range.
In a March 2018 interview, Acura boss Jon Ikeda said, “The key is build-to-order. Dealers want one in their store. Now we’re racing with [Roger Penske], we have GT3 race cars, and we have posters on the walls of dealerships. You add to that a shiny red NSX, you give a test drive, and sell an A-Spec MDX. The NSX has many purposes beyond sales. It’s a halo, a flagship.”
MotorTrend recently published a theory that economic recessions tend to follow the release of supercars by automakers not traditionally known for building exotics. But might the slowing demand for older supercars, requiring big cash-on-the-hood offers, also be a sign that woeful economic times are fast approaching? Stay tuned.

2019 Chevrolet Suburban Redesign, Specs
2019 Chevrolet Suburban Release
2019 Chevrolet Suburban
  2019 Chevrolet suburban
2019 Chevrolet Suburban Specs, Review –  The 2019 Chevrolet Suburban is likely to be the model of the latest generation of the current generation. These are the latest reports on one of the most iconic Chevrolet models. This long distance and long wheelbase SUV has been around for more than eight decades.
The original model appeared in the 1930s, while the current model has been present since 2013. The eleventh generation came with many novelties, but if you take into account the usual production cycle of the model, the next generation could become the 2020 model.
So, the 2019 Suburban probably will not have major changes. It will continue with a familiar design, that includes the same style, interior, motors, etc. However, there is the possibility of seeing a new 10-speed automatic transmission standard for all settings. In addition to the transmission, we could see many other new features, such as the new infotainment system and some new exterior and interior colors. Expect to see it by the end of 2018.
Engine SpecsRivalColors
Engine 5.3 V8 Power (hp/kW) 355/265 Torque (lb-ft/Nm) 383/519 Transmission 6-speed AT Drive RWD / AWD Fuel economy (mpg) 16/23/19 15/22/18
Ford Expedition Nissan Armada Toyota Sequoia Lincoln Navigator GMC Yukon Infiniti QX60 Acura MDX
Havana Metallic Pepperdust Metallic Satin Steel Metallic Siren Red Tintcoat Tungsten Metallic Black Blue Velvet Metallic Tungsten Metallic Wheatland Yellow
  2019 Chevrolet Suburban Redesign
As already mentioned, the 2019 Chevrolet Suburban will continue without any major changes. The famous SUV will continue to mount on the extended version of GM’s GM2 K2 platform. This platform is also used for GMC Yukon XL and Cadillac Escalade. These three models share approximately the same mechanical characteristics. Also, a relationship with Yukon XL is much closer. Each of these two models has its own frontal aspect, but from the A-pillars to the back, everything is practically the same. As we mentioned, the 2019 Chevrolet Suburban will come with some small updates.
2019 Chevrolet suburban Interior
However, the basic design will remain the same. No changes in style are expected, but we could see new exterior colors in the offer. The same will happen inside. We could see some new color schemes, but the rest of the cabin will remain the same.
  2019 Chevrolet Suburban Interior
Finally, there is a Premier molding, which provides 20-inch wheels, xenon headlights, adaptive magnetic transmission control suspension, ventilated front seats, the navigation system, electrically adjustable front seats, cargo carpets and more. wireless charging, 10 speakers, premium Bose surround sound system and more. In addition, there is a total package group available as an option and a separate function in the power supply for each level of equipment.
With its lack of visual change, we do not expect anything new in its standard equipment list. If this is true, look forward to continuing with your standard 18-inch alloy wheels, eight-passenger seats, automatic windshield wipers, three-zone climate control, leather-wrapped steering wheel, 115-volt power outlet, touchscreen. 8 inches, six-speaker audio system and more.
Integrated two-piece grille, body color bumpers, LED daytime running lights, halogen or xenon front and LED taillights. Although there are ten exterior colors and three interior colors, we plan to offer two new variants. The cabin is luxurious: the leather seats; telescopic leather steering wheel; three-zone automatic air conditioner; 8-inch touchscreen.
  2019 Chevrolet Suburban Engine Performance
The 2019 Chevrolet Suburban will continue with the same powertrain. There is a 5.3-liter V8 family unit that offers approximately 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Until now, this engine was generally available with a 6-speed automatic transmission, but several reports suggest that the new 10-speed gearbox will become a standard feature at all trim levels. With so much power and torque, it’s no wonder that this big, heavy SUV moves so fast. It takes approximately 7.2 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour. Braking is also at a high level, around 131 feet from 60 to 0. When it comes to off-road features, an extra-long wheelbase is an obvious limit for some better features. The average fuel economy is around 15 mpg in the city and 22 on a highway.
2019 Chevrolet Suburban release date and price
The 2019 Chevrolet Suburban is expected to arrive somewhere in the third quarter of next year. We do not expect changes in prices. Therefore, the basic models will be around $ 51,000, while the best-equipped versions could reach $ 70,000.

2020 Cadillac XT6: For When the Escalade Is Too Baller
After two decades dominating the big truck-based luxury SUV segment with its de facto flagship, the Escalade, Cadillac has unveiled the XT6, its first serious competitor in the three-row luxury crossover class dominated by such models as the Volvo XC90, Audi Q7, and Acura MDX. The 2020 Cadillac XT6 goes on sale this summer in both Premium Luxury and Sport guise and will court buyers for whom the XT5 is too small and the brash Escalade is, well, too much of an Escalade.
The new XT6 is not, strictly speaking, the luxury division’s first three-row unibody SUV. That would be the 2004–09 Cadillac SRX, a tall STS station wagon with all-wheel drive. While Cadillac has been returned most of its passenger cars to rear-drive over the past 15 years or so, the XT6 rides on the transverse-engine, front-drive-based C1 family platform also used to underpin the GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave. It will be assembled at General Motors’ Spring Hill, Tennessee, plant.
The new Cadillac also will compete with the upcoming 2020 Lincoln Aviator, which goes on sale later this year riding on a new rear-wheel-drive platform to be shared with the 2020 Ford Explorer—as well as the next Mustang. Cadillac figures luxury shoppers looking for a three-row SUV, especially with the AWD option, aren’t concerned about FWD versus RWD. We’ll have to see both the Aviator and XT6 next to each other, but at first glance the Lincoln seems to be possessed of more elegant proportions than the Cadillac. (It also has a way cooler name.)
One engine is on the specifications sheet, GM’s naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V-6 making an estimated 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft—numbers that will be nailed down closer to the SUV’s launch—and coupled to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The Sport model comes standard with all-wheel drive, a twin-clutch electrically controlled rear differential that can be disconnected or apply torque to the individual rear wheels to enhance cornering, and continuously adaptive dampers. All-wheel drive is optional on the XT6 Premium Luxury, and this setup has a single-clutch rear differential that can also disconnect to boost efficiency. Both AWD systems come with driver-select Touring (FWD only), Sport (part-time AWD), AWD, and Snow/Ice modes. The Sport mode switches to more aggressive throttle and transmission shift points, and on the XT6 Sport with its CDC dampers, it also tightens up the suspension. Steering ratio is 16:1 for the Cadillac XT6 Premium Luxury, and 15:1 for the Sport.
Dimensionally, the XT6 is 198.8 inches long, rides on a 112.7-inch wheelbase, is 77.3-inches wide, and stands 70.2 inches tall including the luggage rack. For reference, the Enclave is 5.5 inches longer, 1.5 inches wider, and 0.3 inch lower, and has a 6.2-inch longer wheelbase. The XT6 sits sort of between the Buick and the Acadia, as the GMC is 193.6 inches long, 75.4 inches wide, 66.0 inches tall, and has a 0.2-inch shorter wheelbase than the Cadillac.
Cadillac global design chief Andrew Smith says his staff were tasked with styling a “right-size three-row, where every seat is the right seat.” In other words, the first, second, and third rows all have good outward visibility, and the back row doesn’t feel too separated from other passengers. His staff concentrated on the XT6’s stance and a wide track, as well as making it taller, not lower, and fitting in nicely between XT5 and Escalade.
Cadillac designers gave the XT6 the grille and vertical lamps, which double as daytime running lamps and turn signals, of the Escala concept. Above those lamps are thin horizontal headlamps with three-level LEDs, and cornering lamps will be standard. The taillamps are modeled after the ones on the recently facelifted (and soon to be discontinued) Cadillac CT6 so as to be distinct from the XT4 and XT5, though it’s still instantly recognizable as a modern Cadillac. The XT6 Sport’s grille is an evolution of the XT4 Sport’s, with blacked-out mesh, and that version also will come with black accents on the window and taillamp surrounds and its own unique lower rear fascia.
Premium Luxury models will ride on 20-inch wheels, while the Sport can be upgraded to 21s. In addition, its 20-inch wheels are of a different design. Both will be available with six seats and second-row captain’s chairs, or seven seats and a second-row bench. A manual one-button control folds the second row forward for entry to the fairly capacious third row. The two rearmost rows fold flat, and there’s a handy deep compartment hidden under the floor behind the third row, with a full-size spare located under that. Each row has two USB ports, and Wi-Fi connectivity is standard.
A two-panel sunroof is standard across the board. Cadillac’s latest CUE infotainment system updates on the XT4’s with a rotary control that has a “jog” function to allow control without having touch the 8.0-inch screen. Noise cancellation is built into the standard eight-speaker Bose audio, while a 14-speaker Bose Performance Series system is an available upgrade.
Both the 2020 Cadillac XT6 Premium Luxury and Sport can be outfitted in Platinum trim. The Premium Luxury Platinum offers a choice of “four species of exotic woods,” while Sport Platinum offers two different carbon-fiber trims. The Premium Luxury Platinum example we saw at a preview event had a jet-black interior and “maple sugar” wood trim, while the Sport one had copper-color thread woven throughout its carbon trim. Both looked elegant slathered with semi-aniline premium leather, though too much of the familiar GM plastic trim and shared control buttons remain. On first impression, the XT6’s interior doesn’t quite pop like the Aviator’s.
Of course, the new XT6 will come with the now-typical long list of safety features, including a standard high-definition rear camera with washer, forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, lane-change alert with side blind-zone alert, and rear cross-traffic alert. Among the optional stuff on this front are advanced adaptive cruise control, automatic parking assist with braking, rear pedestrian alert, high-definition 360-degree camera and recorder, a head-up display, reverse automatic braking, and night vision.
Cadillac promises a “surprise” in addition to the new XT6 at its official coming-out party ahead of the 2019 Detroit auto show’s first press day. Smart money bets it will be a rendering or concept version of the Cadillac crossover EV that GM CEO Mary Barra says will lead the automaker’s electric-vehicle product onslaught early in the next decade. Meanwhile, the 2020 Cadillac XT6 Premium Luxury and Sport will be available for order this spring, ahead of summer deliveries.

2020 Cadillac XT6: For When the Escalade Is Too Baller

2020 Lincoln Aviator First Look: Aviator Takes Flight
With the introduction of the 2020 Aviator three-row premium crossover, Lincoln dive-bombs into a high-volume segment with a rear-biased, all-wheel-drive crossover that’s also available as a plug-in hybrid packing some serious performance numbers.
When the Aviator returns to the market next year, slotting between the Nautilus and Navigator, the Grand Touring trim will debut the company’s new hybrid powertrain: a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine coupled with an electric motor. The powertrain generates 450 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque and comes with Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission.
Only the Grand Touring, including a Black Label Grand Touring, will offer the hybrid system—the first plug-in for the Lincoln brand. Lincoln executives are not disclosing the Aviator’s electric range other than to say it will be at least 30 miles to meet China regulations. It has a Pure EV drive mode and a Preserve EV mode that lets the gas engine do the work to save the battery for later. It will use Level 1 or 2 charging. All-wheel drive is standard with the hybrid.
Strip away the batteries and electric motor, and the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 delivers 400 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque for the rest of the trim levels.
“It will be the most powerful Lincoln we’ve ever built,” said David Woodhouse, Lincoln design director.
The Aviator concept looked ready to roll when it broke cover in March at the New York auto show. So it is not a huge surprise that the production model is ready for viewing this week at the Los Angeles auto show. The utility vehicle goes on sale next summer.
The midsize premium utility segment is the highest volume in the U.S. and third-largest segment in the critical China market, said Joy Falotico, president of Lincoln.
The Aviator launches with halo power and family resemblance to big brother Navigator, which should give it the gravitas to make a bigger splash than the last time this automaker brought an Aviator to market.
The Aviator’s 2003 predecessor was a Ford Explorer dressed like a Lincoln Navigator—developed in hopes of keeping buyers from straying to BMW, Mercedes-Benz, or Lexus. It didn’t work. Buyers saw through the badge engineering, balked at the hefty $40,000 pricetag and did not appreciate the clunky body-on-frame ride when competitor crossovers were switching to car-based unibody crossovers.
By contrast, the 2020 Aviator is not lifted from the Ford parts bin. Rather than trying to elevate mass-market underpinnings, the Aviator is the first vehicle from Ford’s new rear -drive, unibody architecture. It will cascade to mass-market models, including the new Ford Explorer, but it is a luxury platform first. The platform is flexible enough to accommodate various engine sizes and powertrain configurations, and can handle front-, rear- and all-wheel drive.
The overall design of the Aviator, with its sculpted sides, crisp character lines and a roof that slopes back and down was designed to mimic a bird in flight, according to Woodhouse. It looks much leaner and sportier than the Navigator from the outside while it emulates the Navigator’s interior with a mix of premium materials including open pore woods, soft leathers with six stitches per inch—we don’t know how many stitches there usually are but Woodhouse insists this is on the opulent side—and industrial metal trim for the Grand Touring. Each trim has a different grille.
The new Aviator offers a runway of technology. When the driver approaches the vehicle, the air glide suspension automatically lowers to get in or load gear—it has 80 mm of travel. The owner’s smartphone acts as a key—another first for the automaker—unlocking it, opening the trunk, and starting the engine. Up to four phones can be linked to the vehicle, and if your phone dies, a passcode can be entered on the exterior keypad to get in and a backup code can be entered on the center touch screen to start and drive the vehicle. If a phone is lost or stolen, Phone As A Key can be easily deleted from the Lincoln Way app. The app also provides courtesy prompts such as gas station location when fuel is getting low or an offer to switch the speedometer to kilometers if the nav system notes you have crossed a border.
Aviator’s continuously controlled damping system provides a car-like ride. A popular feature could be “Adaptive Suspension with Road Preview” which uses a camera to spot potholes or uneven surfaces and immediately adjust the suspension for the impact.
Lincoln also introduces Co-Pilot360 Plus, an upgrade to the suite of safety systems, adding the ability to navigate traffic, adjusting speed by braking and accelerating as needed; steering when necessary to stay in the lane or avoid a collision; and brake when a vehicle is detected while the Aviator is backing up. The system can park for you, requiring no input from the driver after pushing a button—the car does the steering, acceleration, and braking into the selected spot.
A large head-up display is readable with polarized sunglasses and the Aviator has adaptive LED headlights that change how the light is directed based on vehicle speed: light beam is longer and narrower when going fast, spreads out wider when going slow.
Aviator ushers in a new Black Label top trim it calls “Flight” that uses tan and ebony palettes and replicates the shape of early aviation instruments.
But even the lower trims aim for a quiet and uncluttered cockpit where the occupants can relax, stretch out in 30-way adjustable massaging seats, and listen to the optional Revel Ultima audio system with 28 speakers. There is a 12.3-inch touchscreen and configurable instrument cluster, wireless phone charging and connectivity to as many as 10 devices. The piano key gear selection is tucked into the center stack. A new steering wheel places the voice command button at the 10 o’clock position for an easy tap with your thumb.
The Detroit Symphony Orchestra provided the notes that greet the driver when the Aviator is turned on and real percussion and violin notes replace electronic warning chirps and alerts.
Second-row passengers can recline and adjust their seats—which also slide forward to access the third row. So as not to infringe on legroom or the cargo area, the hybrid battery pack is located under the second-row seats.
Despite all these luxury touches, Lincoln is expected to be competitive in its pricing. It would need to start about $60,000 to complete with the Audi Q7 with a V-6 or Acura MDX SH-AWD Hybrid head on—although John Davis, chief program engineer, said the powertrain competes against a V-8. The Aviator would also slot between a Buick Enclave Avenir and a Volvo XC90 T6 Inscription.
The 2020 Lincoln Aviator takes off next summer. It will be built at the Chicago Assembly Plant.
