Wheeling Nailers' Web cam Brown draws extra motivation from stint in the AHL
Oftentimes throughout the course of an ECHL season, players on ECHL-level contracts will earn tryouts with AHL clubs outside of the organization.Rookie Web cam Brown was one of those gamers for the Nailers this season, making a tryout contract with the Springfield Thunderbirds on Feb. 14. After a 13-game stint, his first taste at AHL hockey, Brown was launched from his contract and went back to Wheeling this week.Brown recorded one help and one objective throughout his time in the
AHL, scoring a goal in your home in only his 2nd video game with Springfield. The experience, while much shorter than Brown would have liked, provided
that far more motivation to make another opportunity in the AHL."I think simply given that I got that taste I found out a lot and I believe I could even perform much better if
I end up getting an opportunity again,"Brown informed me."I think I know what to anticipate and I know exactly what things are going to resemble. It could be a bit of a smoother modification."Brown, who turned 25 on Sunday, had a great deal of takeaways from his time in Springfield, most especially the amount of work it takes to remain a routine in the lineup at that level."Every day you need to put the operate in," he said.
"You have to perform your finest every day or your task is on the line. Corresponding is the biggest thing I noticed at that level, men having the ability to do it day in and day out no matter what the scenario." Brown hasn't struggled to put up the points in the ECHL. He's producing at almost a point-per-game speed, with 14 goals and 31 assists in 50 games. At the time of Brown's recall, he was the league-leader in helps among all rookies. Making plays is not his weakness. An area of his video game that he wish to deal with though prior to he gets another shot at the AHL is his overall two-way game, and becoming more sound defensively. For now, Brown is turning his focus back to Wheeling and hopefully a run at the Kelly Cup. He mored than happy to be reunited with
his colleagues after being away from the group for a month."I think it was simply great to see the boys,"he said. "It's excellent to be in the locker space where I understand all the men so well.
It was enjoyable to be back." He scored in his 3rd game back in Wheeling, in Saturday's video game versus Cincinnati: In these final games of the season, just as with his own game, Brown would like to see the Nailers improve their defensive play prior to the routine season ends. The Nailers have the sixth-most objectives scored this season with an overall of 229, however that offensive success has actually not always equated into wins because they've enabled nearly as numerous goals all season, with 227. Brown states that Wheeling's veterans, guys like Cody Wydo and Danny Fick, are especially helpful this time of year due to the fact that of their playoff experience.
"Those men have been around and they know what it takes, exactly what we need to do each and every day and exactly what we need to carry out in practice to get better and reach that level, and ideally the last round,"Brown said.Unlike a lot of the other young gamers on the Nailers lineup, Brown has ECHL playoff experience himself. He made his professional debut last season with the Adirondack Thunder following the conclusion of his senior season at
the University of Maine. Brown played 9 games to complete out the regular season, and after that in the very first round of the playoffs as Adirondack was eliminated in the very first round by Manchester.Although it was a short run, Brown seems like he understands exactly what to expect-- both from the intensity of the games, and from a potential match. "We in fact ended up playing Manchester in the preliminary that year, and we may wind up playing either Manchester or Adirondack here this year, "Brown stated. "I believe it will be quite cool, and assist with the change. The level of play definitely increases a lot.
""There's a lot on the line when the playoffs start. "MORE FROM WHEELING - Mar. 21: vs. Worcester, 1-0 shootout win - Mar. 23: vs. Brampton, 4-3 win - Mar. 24: vs. Cincinnati, 3-2 overtime loss - Derek Army is on the move again, remembered to Tucson at the start
of the week. If Army remains in Tucson, his experience will undoubtedly
be missed out on as Wheeling
makesthis push for the playoffs. - Defenseman Kevin Schulze was released from histryout contract with Wilkes-Barre and went back to Wheeling. - Chris Francis was the star of the week, scoring the only shootout objective in Wednesday's game, then tallying an objective in each of this weekend's video games, bringing his season goal overall to 10. - Per the group's broadcaster and Director of Media/Community Relations DJ Abisalih, Wednesday was the third 1-0 shootout win in Nailers group history, the most recent being Dec. 27, 2002.
- Adam Morrison started in Wednesday and Friday's wins. He made 28 saves to shutout Worcester, then 37 minimizes 40 shots against Brampton. - The Nailers took a big blow on Saturday when leading-scorer Cody Wydo left the game after a hit in the first duration. An angry head coach Jeff Christian informed
The Intelligencer after the video game that"It's not good. If that takes him out for season, whether a broken clavicle, separated shoulder, whatever, it's a joke."- After this week, the Nailers remain in 4th location in the North Department, the final playoff spot in the department, nowwith a five-point lead over the Worcester Railers. They only route the third-place Reading Royals by three points. The magic number to clinch a playoff area is 9. - The Nailers(33-25-8-1)have three video games this week to close out the month of March. They'll host Cincinnati again on Tuesday(36-27-3-0). They'll go to the league-leading Toledo Walleye (47-16-3-2 )on Friday, and host the division-leading Manchester Monarchs (40-21-3-2), a most likely first-round playoff matchup, on Saturday for their last home game of the season.GOALS OF THE WEEK Chris Francis tape-recorded an objective in each of this weekend's games: Defenseman Kevin Spinozzi scored his first professional goal on Friday. Spinozzi played 16 video games for Wilkes-Barre this season before being sent down to Wheeling on Mar. 9. Ayrton Valente, signed as a free representative out of SUNY-Plattsburgh in February, scored his first expert goal today too: SAVE OF THE WEEK
Matt O'Connor(residential or commercial property of the Nashville Predators, in Wheeling since Nashville does not have an ECHL affiliate)made this stop on Saturday: WHEELING FUN THING Chris Francis and Garrett Meurs made a visit to Reynolds Memorial Healthcare Facility:. @LVchrisfrancis8 & Garrett Meurs spent some time off from scoring game winning goals to illuminate some days before Charity Night tonight

Nailed It
When you think of the decade of the 1990s, what comes to mind? For younger people, not much as 1990 was some 28 years ago, but for slightly older generations - me included - what stands out when it comes to everything that happened in the 1990s? It would probably be on the list, but I'm not sure how high I would have ranked the television show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The ECHL's Wheeling Nailers made that show a priority on Saturday night as they held '90s Night as part of their promotional schedule!
As seen to the right, the Wheeling Nailers skated out on '90s Night wearing uniforms designed by Jeff Tasca and produced by Athletic Knit that look identical to the background of the opening of Saved By The Bell and the logo looking somewhat like the lettering for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air! These are pretty spectacular jerseys when it comes to the pop culture of the 1990s, and I think Jeff and Athletic Knit did an incredible job on these uniforms that not only have the design on the jerseys, but on the socks as well! With '90s Night looking exceptionally good thanks to the Jeff's vision and Athletic Knit's production, the only thing left in question was whether or not the Nailers could make it a memorable night on the ice! Did someone say "memorable"?
Bravo, @alfonso_ribeiro. Bravo. #90sNight @WheelingNailers pic.twitter.com/BfNYE33BID
— Indy Fuel (@IndyFuel) February 3, 2018
Alfonso Ribeiro was on-hand for the game between the Nailers and the Indy Fuel, and Mr. Carlton Banks broke out the Carlton Dance in dropping the puck! Ribeiro has always been a good sport when attending events and festivals about doing the "Carlton", and tonight was no different as he broke into character and made this ceremonial puck-drop entirely awesome! Well done, Alfonso! As always, there was a game to be played after all the '90s fun had subsided. The Nailers jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first period on the strength of goals by Chris Francis on the power-play, Kevin Schulze on the power-play, and Troy Josephs. The Fuel had tied the game at 1-1 when Johnny McInnis found the back of the net, but that would be the last time these two teams would be even. Darian Dziurzynski made it 3-2 on a backhander as the Fuel pulled within a goal in the second period, but Troy Josephs would score 38 seconds later to make it 4-2. Francis then made it 5-2 prior to the second intermission. Dziurzynski potted his second goal of the game in the third period, but Freddie Tiffels and Francis, who completed his hat trick, made it a 7-3 victory for the Wheeling Nailers on '90s Night! Adam Morrison picked up his tenth win of the season in a 26-save performance as Wheeling moved to nine games above .500 on the season! A big win, Carlton Banks doing the Carlton Dance, and some incredible '90s-esque jerseys made for one memorable night in Wheeling, Pennsylvania. I'd say they nailed it! Until next time, keep your sticks on the ice! from Sports News http://hockey-blog-in-canada.blogspot.com/2018/02/nailed-it.html
