According to the 3rd sneak peak on the youtube channel, we get more info on Brass! Apparently he is going blind (?) or something of that sort. And there’s a Catherine name drop!! Though I don’t think she’ll be in the show. Thoughts?
hi, @jjnora!
so according to brass, he is experiencing "fuch's corneal disease," also known as fuch's corneal dystrophy, a progressive condition in which fluid builds up in the cornea of the eye, causing it to swell and thicken, leading to discomfort and cloudy vision.
fuch's dystrophy typically does not result in total blindness, and, contrary to what brass insinuates in the sneak peek, can be treated, with medication in its earlier stages and corneal transplant surgery in its later stages. after transplantation, patients normally experience a full reversal of symptoms.
though it's hard to say just by looking, it appears that brass's condition is fairly advanced. however, whether or not he's on the transplant list or if he's even eligible for a transplant at all, we don't yet know.
since this new reboot adventure kicks off with brass being attacked in his own home—on behalf of an old foe called "lucky”—i'd say it's probably a safe bet that his impaired vision will serve as a wrinkle in the case, as he likely won't be able to provide much in the way of “eyewitness testimony” concerning his attacker.
someone else who watched the later seasons of the show more closely than i did may have a better memory than i do on this one, but i honestly don't recall brass ever interacting with a criminal called lucky at any point during the original run of the show, much less having a serious adversarial dynamic with such a person, which may indicate that lucky is either someone from his new jersey days or else someone whom he has encountered since leaving the lvpd (perhaps when he was still working security for catherine back in 2015).
in any case, this peek confirms that he is indeed the one who calls sara in to help on the case and also suggests that he is probably the one who (somehow) gets her working with the lvpd crime lab again as a consultant.
other things we learn about brass from this clip include:
he does seemingly talk regularly with sara (and perhaps grissom?), though he hasn't mentioned his condition to her/them prior to this point.
he has an african grey parrot named elvis, whom he lovingly describes as a “little bastard.”
he doesn't seem to have adequate help/care and relies on his housekeeper to look after him.
he's still just as wry as ever.
he may or may not also be staying in catherine's hotel, a la the grissoms, following his attack.
he is also seemingly in contact with catherine, as he knows what's going on in her life.
as for catherine, the sneak peek tells us just enough to confirm that she is indeed responsible for putting the grissoms (and possibly also brass) up in her casino hotel; however, she is herself not present in vegas, as she is apparently either visiting or living in ireland to be near her grandchild.
how she and lindsey came to leave the lvpd crime lab, when they did so, and under what circumstances, we don't know. why they ended up in ireland, we also don't know. maybe lindsey partnered with or married someone who is from there or else is there for work.
it seems like a good guess that catherine probably retired in order to spend more time with her family (possibly around the time that lindsey got pregnant or had the baby), but there also could be more to the story that we don't yet know.
whether or not marg will appear in the reboot, we can't say for certain.
on the one hand, marg did recently like one of @fandomismymiddlename's tweets about her potentially appearing in the reboot, which could indicate that she has either already filmed a guest spot or at least has some interest in maybe doing so in the future, should the show get renewed for a second season.
on the other hand, she's had one show cancelled and then been picked up for another show on another network all during the time when csi: vegas has so far been filming, so i doubt she's had a lot of opportunity (or even been contractually at liberty) to get in any guest spots.
while it's technically possible that marg could have filmed an appearance on the reboot sometime back in may or june (during the brief window when she was otherwise unemployed), i have to believe that, had she done so, the cbs hype team would be playing up her return in the same way that they are billy, jorja, and paul's, as, after all, hers is a big enough name and catherine is a beloved enough character that giving fans a heads-up that she'd be back would make for good publicity for the new show.
the only reason i can see them keeping a potential return from her on the dl is if that return happened later in the season and was meant to be a surprise.
otherwise, i kinda think we'd have heard about it by now, you know?
in any case, the reboot writers sending catherine all the way to dublin seems like a good indication that they want her “out of sight and out of mind" for the time being, so we can take that for what we will.
as for other thoughts about the sneak peek:
as jorja has talked about in some of her recent interviews, sara seems to initially be under the impression that her trip to vegas will be a short one—72 hours or less. though she does know that brass has been attacked, she seems not to be aware prior to when she arrives that he is losing his vision. she also appears surprised (and even affronted) when he asks her to consult on the case. that so, one has to wonder: when she first responds to his call, what is it that she thinks she's coming back to las vegas to do? does she seriously believe that all she's there for is to move him out of his house and into catherine's hotel? but if she doesn't know about his sight, then why would she think he needs the help? the fact that she makes the drive from san diego to sin city in such quick time suggests a sense of urgency on her part, so is there perhaps more to her coming than we already know about? what could brass possibly say to her that would make her feel like she needs to get to him fast but also has her convinced that once she reaches him, he'll only need her for a couple of days at most?
brass's "at least i got sara sidle back to vegas" comment plus the fact that she had previously been unaware of his fuch's dystrophy suggests that sara has not been to vegas in a long time—perhaps not since the events of "immortality." if not, then the fact that she has not would imply that she must have finished up all of her business in vegas (leaving her job as lab director, selling her house and car, tying up all the loose ends on her old cases, etc.) remotely.
when brass asks sara what she's been up to recently, she doesn't give an answer. we know she has grissom collecting jellyfish in panama, but we still don't have a full idea of what their life over the last six years has consisted of. for example, why is she coming to vegas from san diego? has that city maybe become a "home base" for her and grissom, or is that just where they happened to be when sara received brass's call? were they maybe there seeing nick? beyond the issue of location, we also don't know how much contact they've kept up with their work family. sara insinuates that she and brass talk regularly and that she has at least recently been in touch with catherine (enough to have been put up at the hotel), but how often have she and grissom seen their old friends in person since 2015? have they done so at all? did they invite any of them to their (second) wedding? with brass, it seems unlikely that sara has physically been in the same place as him for at least a couple of years, given that his condition comes as a surprise to her. but what about with everyone else?
another general question about the csiverse: is this fictional universe one that is going to acknowledge the covid-19 pandemic, or is this story going to be set in an alternate universe where the pandemic never happened? so far, no one on the show seems to be wearing masks, so my guess is that the latter option is the case. we'll see, though.
sara seems very surprised/affronted when brass asks her to look into his case. though we know from interviews that she has kept up her accreditation enough to at least still be certified as a criminalist, to me, her reaction indicates far-removal from her old csi life—i.e., that she has not been involved with anything having to do with the profession recently.
anyway, those are my takes, for what they're worth.
thanks for the question! please feel welcome to send another any time.

What Challenges Does Your Bird Face This Spring And Summer?
Tumblr media
Linda F asks Hi, As spring approaches we look to protect furry as well as feathered friends. Any suggestions on Frontline and heartguard type products that are safe around parrots and toos (Cockatoos) when used on three little dogs? Are the two above mentioned harmful when used on dog that lives in same house as a bird? Thank you for all help I have received as my CAG (Congo African Grey, goffie (Goffin Cockatoo) learn to share our life together. Would not have made it as smoothly this far without your good advice and Birdy Brunch. Thank you again. Linda, Micha and Stewie   Hi Linda   Thank you for the kind words   In that dogs (mammals) and birds (aves) have different integumentary systems (fins, fur, feathers, scales) treatments should not cross over. Everyone likes to think of themselves as being prepared for disaster and certainly life’s cuts and scrapes.   I’ve personally sutured a dog in a garage (after 5 minutes of training by my vet :-)   I’ve yanked shards of glass out of more than one dogs paw and got them bandaged over the years.   Sutures are easy to come by if your vet is a fellow musher but for the most part many dogs, and I presume cat medical emergencies, can be treated with a human first aid kit.   Removing a little fur on a dog while rapidly getting a wound bandaged, is something a dog will get over pretty quickly.
Tumblr media
Mammals are very different than birds.   Unless your birds are exposed to mosquito bites which is unlikely because they are indoors, the chance of incurring heartworm disease is slim to none.   Parasitic roundworms named Dirofilaria immitis affect mostly dogs but may manifest itself in ferrets, cats and other prey animals.   Once the roundworms mature they can be found in the heart, ergo the name heartworm but they can also be found in the lungs and blood vessels between the lungs in the heart.   It can take up to six months for the actual parasite to develop in a dog's heart.   Thus heartguard is certainly not a necessary prophylactic treatment for birds.   There is a topical flea treatment you can get from the vet.   SevenDust sprinkled on the ground helps kill the fleas in the sand.   I've used Adams flea and tick spray with success directly on birds who have fleas, but make sure to avoid their eyes and mouth.   Adams will work for feather mites and lice as well.   You may also try Pest Control Dyna-mite All Natural Mite-lice Repellent 8 Oz (.24 L)   best   mitchr   Migrating from spring to summer   We talk about parrots being equatorial animals and how life in North America, for example screws up their instinctual expectations for things like light cycles and temperature. So you would think with summer here all those problems would go away. Some do, but now we face new challenges. Escape routes Summer is the time of open doors and windows, screens instead of glass and much more in and out traffic typically. Flighted birds pose the risk of escape by flight, and summer increases that risk no doubt. But when your wing clipped 240g feather ball chews through the screen where you left the window open in the guest room on the second floor, your wing clipped bird could easily ride the warm summer thermals (those air things that keep un-motorized gliders afloat) and end up in the next state before you knew she was gone. If you open doors and windows, it’s best to keep your bird in a cage, flighted or not.   Ceiling fans A fan can be a human’s best friend. I’ve seen videos of birds who like to play in the airflow. That said, I’ve also seen birds who were placed under or in front of a fan with every good intention by its keeper. While keeping the air around the bird cool the birds feathers were always getting lifted. A “ruffled” feather needs to be put back in its place, and this is done by preening.   https://youtu.be/sIR-q9GsXcg   With the unceasing airflow from the fan comes when unceasing amount of preening, which has in the past triggered plucking. I advise you to keep your birds out of the path of direct airflow.   Ceiling fans fall under the category of super hazard for flighted birds. Veterinarians call the result “shredded tweet” For more ways on how we kill and injure our pet birds, read this. Shade We discussed the need for full-spectrum lighting on a regular basis. What could be better than the real deal, the sun. You know that thing that can fade paint, burn skin, crinkle car interiors? Yep, that sun.   Sunlight is good, direct sunlight is not - make sure your bird always has access to shade. If your cage is near a window check it throughout the day to make sure there is always a shady spot somewhere in the cage where your bird can seek refuge. Mosquitoes West Nile virus is usually transmitted through mosquito bites and can cause an avian condition resulting in death. Keep your bird protected from mosquitoes If you take him or her outside in a cage outside on an unprotected deck potential exposure you bird to mosquito bites greatly increases. An outdoor aviary may require an additional layer of screening. Burning the burgers Grilled food always taste better, who doesn’t like a good barbecue? Whether the barbecue is at home or your bird travels with you remember the smoke from campfires and barbecues may be toxic to your bird. Check to see that direct inhalation is not occurring through an open window, too.   The Varments For us the circle of life usually starts the supermarket and ends on our kitchen table. For a feral cat, a raccoon a nearby Hawk, the circle of life can be seconds away from your bird’s cage. Please don’t leave your bird alone outside for a moment. The ability to maintain a high and constant body temperature enables birds to exploit a remarkable range of habitats -- tropical, temperate, and polar. This achievement is not without cost, however. The "expense" of metabolic heat production must be repaid by taking in sufficient energy to balance what has been expended, and mechanisms must be available to shed excess heat when necessary. If the environmental temperature falls, birds raise their metabolic rate to prevent their internal temperature from falling as well. In contrast, if the environmental temperature becomes too hot, birds must mobilize water to lose heat through evaporative cooling (as we do when we perspire) and avoid death from overheating. Since birds have no sweat glands, heat must be lost through the respiratory tract by panting, or in non-passerines (birds with zygodactyl feet) by the rapid vibration of the upper throat and thin floor of the mouth ("gular flutter"). To minimize the energy cost of temperature regulation ("thermoregulation"), birds use a variety of morphological and behavioral traits to adjust their rateof heat loss and heat gain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yjBoxDYfv4   Unfeathered (uninsulated) body surfaces serve as important sites for heat exchange with the environment. When heat-stressed, therefore, some birds, such as Black Vultures, excrete onto their unfeathered legs to increase heat loss by evaporation. Emergency liquid foods for caged birds are: sugar water lemonade (noncarbonated) milk and egg yolk pediatric pedialyte To administer: Use a plastic eyedropper or syringe (no glass or needles!). Hold your bird's head back 45 degrees. Do not put pressure on the chest, because doing so may inhibit her breathing. Instead, cradle her body and lightly tilt her head back. Administer one drop at a time to avoid choking your bird. Stroke your bird's throat to help her swallow. Repeat the process, giving up to 7 drops for small birds (canaries), 10 to 15 drops for medium birds (parakeets & small conures) and up to 5 teaspoons for large birds (cockatoos). written by mitch rezman approved by catherine tobsing your zygodactyl footnote   via GIPHY Read the full article

Alright Saihara thanks I guess.
Saihara’s first pet
Tumblr media
Yes, he did in fact have a bird at a point during his life. It was a present from his parents before they left for work overseas and Saihara spent most of his childhood with his uncle. It was a male African grey parrot and it was a year old when his parents gave him to Saihara. For about the first month of having the bird at home he was hesitant about it and didn´t go near it often, since owning a bird or any kind of pet in general was a huge responsibility and he felt like he didn't deserve it or deem himself worthy enough to have the bird. His uncle understood which is why he was mostly the one who took care of it for a while.
Now, timeline wise, Saihara got the bird during pre-game. As in the bird is not around after Saihara lands in the killing game. In the alternate verse, Saihara still gets this bird before entering high school. This means that Saiharas personality and general attitude is different than from what we were used to. He is more reserved and closed off and doesn't trust the people around him all that much, other than his uncle. His attitude is more negative and pessimistic. The one few positive things about him is his desires to help others, though that topic is something for a later date. Point is, Saihara craves for death.
Why it's important here is because that bird pulled him out of the despair hole. Saihara eventually sucked it up and decided to take responsibility for the parrot, his reason for this is because he felt a bit guilty that he was not paying attention to the animal that his parents gifted to him before leaving. Even though his uncle took care of the parrot he still saw it as a defenseless animal who should be taken cared of and loved by the person who was supposed to own him in the first place. The parrot didn't even have a name at this point. His uncle had not named him because he wanted Saihara to name him when he's ready to care for him. So one night little young Saihara goes up to the parrot and calls him Daisuke, the name he wanted to give to the parrot. To his surprise the parrot repeated the name back to him and something clicked and Saihara knew at that moment that he and the bird were going to be great pals.
Back to the personality thing I mentioned earlier, Saihara didn't care a lot about a lot of things, but he did care about Daisuke. He loved the bird and took care of him as best as he possibly could every day after naming him. He has taught the bird a whistle that the bird can mimic so in case of an emergency he can repeat the special whistle and Saihara would be able to find him. Whenever Saihara had those bad nights where every thought was suicidal the bird would stick by his side and even go on his shoulder for comfort. Whenever those two were together the bird was on his shoulder. Saihara didn't like leaving him in his cage all by himself so he took him out at every chance he could, of course while keeping a close eye on him. That bird was basically his only friend for a very long time. He loved the fact that Daisuke was able to mimic human speech, he would often spend hours just talking to him. Daisuke was Saiharas little feathery light in the darkness that he viewed the world and humanity in.
However the bird escaped through an open window and Saihara was devastated. He wanted to give up right then and there but his uncle pushed him to go out and find him while he stayed home in case Daisuke decided to come back. He was reluctant in doing so, and didn't have very high expectations that he would be able to find him, but he did it anyways. His own inner voice told him to not quit just yet and at least push himself to keep going forward one more time. Of course, the bird was found, he was just chilling in the tree and scaring people that walked by. Saihara was able to find him by walking around for hours whistling the special whistle he taught Daisuke in hopes that he would respond but also by going to places he knew most birds would like to hang out in and carried some special treats that Daisuke liked. The two were reunited and Saihara cried his eyes out when they got home because he thought he lost his best friend forever. Lesson learned. Don't leave open windows open for a long time.
After that whole ordeal his uncle came up to Saihara and and told him how impressed he was that he was able to find a lost bird by himself. Then he asked him if he wanted to work in his office and help work on cases similar to those; missing cats and dogs and eventually even children and runaways. Saihara at first didn't want to, since his first thoughts was how useless he would actually be in situations like that, but Daisuke screeched yes so Saihara couldn't help but agree after that and gave it a try, but he also did it to show gratitude for his uncle. This was where he was able to develop his personality in numerous ways; such as being able to talk to others more and where he figured out his love for helping others. Daisuke motivated him to not only keep moving forward but also give others a chance during a time of need while doing so.
However, Daisuke is also one of the causes for Saiharas deep depression. Daisuke lived a healthy life, but he was then diagnosed with aspergillosis, which is a very common respiratory disease in birds which is caused by spores in the environment from a fungus. Due to the diseases Daisuke had difficulty breathing and a drop in appetite. And because of the disease, the bird suddenly died. This happens before Saihara is soon to be in either high school or the killing game. He was no doubt devastated and grieved for the lost bird by locking himself in his room and refused to come out. He wasn't there for the burial either, his uncle buried him in a spot in the backyard under a tree himself. Saihara, for a very long time, blames himself for Daisuke's death, thinking that he could have done a better job in taking care of him and that he could have saved him if he tried harder.
Saihara pulls through though. He's grown since the first time he got Daisuke. Hes less pessimistic about the world about him and can see the good sides of it. Daisuke motivated him to keep going with the work he was already doing, especially the detective training, where when he solved his first case he never wanted to do anything like that again. He knows that death is a difficult thing to go through, his work made him run into dead pets before, but he knows it's not the end of the world. The depression was strong and the suicidal thoughts were still there, but the memory of his bird and the fact his uncle was there to help him through the grieving process made him push himself back. He knows Daisuke wouldn't be all that happy with him if he just gave up now. He has a future ahead of him, and high school was proof of that. He doesn't want to lose all those happy moments he had with Daisuke by allowing himself to turn into nothing but an empty shell and die.
It wasn't easy to accept Daisuke's death and move on. On occasion you can notice him whistling a certain tune, the same whistle he taught the bird so he can locate him with ease. He still misses his bird to this very day. Its why in the beginning of the game he's more anxious and vulnerable and sad. He just lost his best friend after all.
For others it's better to get a new pet to refill the empty part of their heart but for Saihara it isn't. The very thought of getting another bird upsets him. Nothing can replace the gift that his parents gave him before they left overseas. Nothing can replace the pet that was by his side when he was in the mindset that no one was. Saihara can get a new pet, there's no issue with getting a dog or a cat, he just doesn't want another bird in his life.

Hope you are ready with the species you want to make your best buddy let’s go further and know about their food and treats.
Food should be given once a day but when it comes to treats it should be given on a periodical basis in a day and also as a reward. Remember overdose of these can cause serious health issues. So don’t make them couch potatoes.
Water is also very important. Your prime focus should be on the water as well. Make sure the water is sterilized and it should be changed on a daily basis. Make it your routine. Cleanliness is very important my friend make sure you clean the bird house weekly.
Suggested food for your darling buddies :-ZuPreem Fruit Blend Premium Food, Vitapol Sensitive Food For Parrot.
Apart from these – fresh vegetables, fruits peanuts, cooked fish, beef, cheese and other human food.
There is a need to hold on chocolate and avocado as they are really dangerous and can cause the death of parrots.
TOYS:-
Birds love a variety of toys and invariance and same with parrots as well. There are a variety of toys available online as well as in stores just make sure it doesn’t hurt their beak, feathers. We will never want our small birdie in pain. The natural material made up of toy should be preferred mostly. A constant check should be done on toys, if they are damaged they should be removed instantly. For the time being you can easily make toys made up of household items like cardboard, paper, towels, toilet papers mean to say which can be easy torn.
While choosing the color to make sure the toy is colorful, bright as the colors we see are considerably less when compared to a parrot. The taste should stimulate the palate. When it comes to toys with the sound it should be appealable, not nasty. Once your parrot gets easy going with the toys and loves them, you should try giving them challenges like ladders, problem-solving, puzzles. They are intelligent trust me.
Suggested toys are:- Pawzone Hanging Bird Toy, Trixie Natural Toy on a Sisal Rope for Bird.
TRAINING
Parrots are born intelligent. They can easily catch common words which are being used in the family. They can be easily taught tricks, mimics, whistles something different the way you like. You must be thinking how to train them? Will it be tough?
No need to stress out here I am suggesting an easy way out that is going to definitely help you.
Make sure you are free and in a jovial mood It should be all positive Treat or pat them as an appreciation Don’t nag on them if they are doing wrong Try to ignore MAINTENANCE TIPS FOR A HEALTHY PARROT:-
Parrot dropping if you observe once just rush to the veterinarian Bowls must be changed frequently Water must be sterilized Cage should be clean weekly No overdose of food and treats They should be allowed off the cage once a day Try to have a conversation with them Keep toys inside the cage to make them active Suggested Health Supplements :- Nekton E 35 GB V.E.S for Birds, Nekton Small 35 GB M.S for Birds. (should be given as prescribed)
FACTS ABOUT PARROTS
Parrots are species, not breeds. There are about 353 species of them around the world. They are incredibly intelligent. They are the only bird that can pick their food with their feet and bring to mouth in order to eat. Some of them can live up to 80 years. Kakapo is the world’s largest parrot weighing nine pounds and two feet long cannot fly. Kea the only alpine parrot in the world lives in the coldest region. And also known as Kakapo’s cousin. Cockatoos can move the feathers on their heads. They are the most popular pets because of their lovely looks. They are the amusing ones also if well trained. In some species, a blood test is required to identify the male and female. They mate for life. African gray parrots are the best mimics, but wild parrots neither imitate nor mimics. Some of the species like night parrot, lear’s macaw, the owl parrot are critically endangered.

New Post has been published on https://atticusblog.com/its-good-to-talk-about-mental-health-but-is-it-enough/
It’s good to talk about mental health. But is it enough?
My infant has lately discovered to talk, and she or he speaks as if she’s recording her podcast, an unedited until the roll of mind with a small pause for congratulations at the cease. Occasionally she will be able to prod me for reward. “That was a lovable story I just advised wasn’t it?” Yes, toddler. “I piggy pardon?” Yes, that became a lovable tale.
It very regularly is a lovely tale, but a time will come, perhaps while she turns three, when she will be able to learn that speaking isn’t always enough. Talking is not often the give up – speak is the car, the bus, the motorbike. The meandering adventure to some other place.
Talk is cheap. And that’s the hassle, for me, with our current consciousness on “focus”
This has been Mental Health Awareness Week, with coverage that’s various and shifting. Much is invested in cognizance at the moment – of mental health, of abuse, of sexual violence – in speak approximately the things which have been traditionally hidden. And regularly, as with Prince Harry discussing the way grief affected him, communicate has been essential and provoking. And regularly, as with Stormy acting on the duvet of the NME towards his will in a chunk about despair, it sparks new conversations. has long questioned the darkness of your moods, the places your mind takes you at moments of stress, and Prince Harry – a man with literally everything except a surname – admits he sought help for similar feelings, and you think, I could do that. I could get help like Prince Harry did. So you make an appointment with your GP. It’s in two months’ time, but OK. You plan a morning off work. And two months roll on, speckled with panic attacks and weekends in bed, and then suddenly, there you are, describing your break-up, the way you get obsessed with things like cloud cover, and how you felt suicidal last week at a Holiday Inn off the North Circular. You are put on a waiting list, and there you stay, for months. For almost a year, in fact, in which time the wait itself sends you spiraling. Aware, but spiraling. But aware. But spiraling. Theresa May has pledged to tackle the “stigma” around mental health and praised Harry for speaking up. But the mental health crisis has been fuelled by her party’s policies and exacerbated by the scything of services. We can weigh it in our hands. Here, the fact that the number of young people arriving in A&E with psychiatric problems has doubled since 2009 and two-thirds of British adults say they’ve experienced mental ill health. Here, that spending on mental health services is being cut by millions. And you glance down, and you feel slightly, “stigma stigma”, do you not?
Good Methods to Attract Clientele
The entire idea in the back of the use of sports activities promotional products, of the route, is to get human beings fascinated
You need to offer them enough data with a view to lead them inside the proper path, this means that, in a manner, that they will want to act after having had a flavor of the appetizer, so to talk.
Generally, speakme you need the client to apprehend what business you are in. He has to realize you are about sports and physical hobby. It, therefore, makes sense to draw their attention by using the usage of the correct sports promotional merchandise to be able to talk to them, a good way to sell the precise sport or sports they’re about.
You do not get them interested in spending a fortune on man or woman gadgets. The concept at the back of sports promotional products is to get the general public talking, now not always the financial worth of the gift. Very regularly something cheaper, but catchy, may additionally deliver higher effects in the long run. Something small that they see all of the time, something they can take with them everywhere without having to worry approximately how expensive it’s miles, will regularly do it.
A top concept to get your message throughout is to get in contact with faculties inside the location. Hand out as a good deal as you can. Those youngsters inform their buddies and circle of relatives and earlier than you understand it, inquiries begin coming in. The equal is going to sports activities clubs wherein members are specifically adults. Just consider it: The nearby soccer club, netball membership – hockey, you call it – could be the next forestall on your sports activities promotional merchandise to be handed out at.
Let’s Teach Your Pet Bird to Talk
Teaching your chicken to speak may be extraordinarily enjoyable. It’s miles just like coaching your small kids to mention their first words. It is comparable surely because it takes quite a few patience and love. The new skill your pet chook will learn is also similar to coaching a toddler in that it’s far fine accomplished at an early age. What you are genuinely doing is the primary programming of the bird’s mind so it mimics what you’re announcing through continuously listening to your phrases. Birds examine with the aid of mimicking their parents. The pleasant time to start is weaning age no later than four to six months. This is whilst the mother and father generally educate their young the calls and whistles related to the species they belong to.
The birds that may be taught to speak are the African Grey parrot who is one of the pleasant to teach, the cockatiel, the green-winged macaw, rose-ringed parakeet, the amazon parrot, the peach fronted love hen, sulfur crested cockatoo which could be very popular desire via chicken enthusiasts. There is also the crimson rosella and jam rosella, pink-rumped parrot and budgies so one can talk however are a little tougher to train. Interestingly enough the mynah birds from the starling family are very easy to educate.
I used to have a puppy save with a talking correlate whose name turned into Percy
He uses to say “Hello how are ya” with the letter r sounds at the stop of the word. Some humans trust that woman birds cannot be trained to speak this isn’t actual. They are just tougher to train. Male birds are truly a lot easier to educate to talk. When you do begin education your favorite cook handiest do it for 15 mins numerous times a day. That manner you both won’t become bored and the cook can have a wreck to give it time to consider it has heard. Always provide a unique treat to the hen if it genuinely speaks even if it isn’t clear in the beginning. When you think your hen has mastered the phrase or word you’ve got so patiently taught it you can strive every other one. Sometimes they may be taught to react to a noise. My friend had a purple and gray parrot that stated whilst the cellphone rang, “solution the cellphone”. Make certain the bird is announcing the word or word certainly before you circulate to any other one. Don’t teach your cook whatever you don’t need it to copy consisting of foul language. Also, some birds will take longer than others to speak so do not give up so without problems. Remember staying power and repetition much like you favorite baby and also endurance. So have fun together while you are education your bird and you will have more fulfillment. Good good fortune.

How do amazon parrots use light to synthesize Vitamin D having no preening gland? and other captive Amazon care questions
Tumblr media
How do amazon parrots use light to synthesize Vitamin D having no preening gland? As I was curating this post on Amazon parrot questions it got me thinking about one of my favorite subjects, full spectrum lighting and the synthesis of vitamin D in birds. Amazon parrots are relatively unique having no preening gland (along with doves, pigeons and Hyacinth macaws). The uropygial aka preening gland oozes a slippery goo which a bird rubs its head and beak against. Then spreads this the oil over its feathered body. This oil must find the bird skin under the feathers in order to begin the process of vitamin D synthesis. So how do doves, pigeons, Hyacinth macaws and Amazon parrots syntesize vitamin D (which aids in the absorption of calcium)? Nutrition my friends, nutrition. What they eat. A good pelleted diet will meet the basic nutritional needs of most captive birds. A seed diet may require additional supplementation. If at-the-end-of-the-day in the absence of preening oil to be absorbed through the skin of an Amazon parrot no amount of light is going to act as a catalyst to a process that can't exist - without the oil.
Tumblr media
This begs the question as to why does Windy City Parrot offer the largest supply of lighting for birds on the Internet? Two reasons one, many of our lights actually warm birds without light to help him sleep at night. Two more importantly to help keep their circadian rhythms synchronized with their instinctual expectations. More about that here. Next question about Amazon Parrots Hi   Enjoy your Sunday email and look forward to them. I'm not sure if you give out free advice, but thought I'd ask. I recently acquired a 33 year old Double Yellow Amazon.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bb2AZun_52A   I am his 4th owner, the latest owner was no longer able to take care of him. He is very cage possessive and can not be handled.   Any idea how to help him trust me? He's in the main living area so we spend a lot of time together.   I'd like to get him eating fresh fruits and veggies. He looks at me and the food like I'm trying to poison him. I did have an African Parrot 15+ years ago so have some experience with large birds.   Thanks for listening. :) Keep up the good work. Ava F.   Thank you for the kind words Ava   Thank you for the kind words - For starters please watch the video in this product listing for $2 training clickers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUaVdivyDsQ I would advocate that you obtain some militant sprigs http://goo.gl/BAx15B - you can offer these through the cage or as you get close to the bird if he or she allows it to benefit is - these are tasty your bird will probably like them in the sprig keeps your hand 6 inches from the bird beak   If he doesn't care for millet, find a favorite treat like a non-shelled sunflower kernel, a raisin or on shelled unsalted peanuts.   Drop them in his food dish every time you go by the cage to find out what he really likes and then when you offer a treat, place it in a food bowl so to speak doesn't have to interact with your fingers.   Once he responds to not aggressively receiving treats from you we can move forward   mitchr   Hi   We've had Olive, our yellow naped amazon, since she was 8 months old. She's now 11 years old. She/he, spends most of her/his day outside her/his cage.   However, lately she's/he's been getting down and walking around the house. We never know where she'll/he'll end up. Fortunately, Someone is home with her/him all day. Would she/he benefit by getting another bird? If so, would she/he be ok with a cockatoo?   Thank you for your time!! Joyce   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wD73m_5oIyY   Dear Joyce   Mitch would like to respond to you in depth but he is busy right now.   I will try to get it rolling.   Get your bird sexed. This behavior may be related to a female seeking out a place to build a nest.   Please get bird play stand or two. Having the bird out and about on the floor all the time is not safe.   If some one is not watching and the bird gets into something, destroys a treasured family album, chews an electrical cord, etc. Not good for bir or human   Getting a second bird will only double your work, will take away from your special time with your bird, or worse, they will hate each other.   Please look into the top two for starts.   "Olive" is only out of the cage when she can be supervised. She is covered at night as well.   I refer to her as a girl, as that is what we were told when we bought her at a pet shop. A veterinarian told me recently she is probably not female, or she would have laid by now, seeing as she is 11 years old.   Dear Joyce   Considering that Amazons do live a very long time, their reproductive cycle is not even slightly over at 11.   If conditions were not right for her previously, they may be now.   Editor's note: The vet was not an avian vet. Birds can lose eggs in folds of body fat so not seeing an egg is no confirmation of sex type   Yes  Catherine, its difficult to break the habit of referring to her as a female after all these years.   Again, thank you for taking time to respond!   Joyce   Enjoy Your Journey!   Hello,   We live in southern TX, and would like to take our Amazon outside since the weather is so nice this time of year.   I will purchase a cage of course, but my concerns are what types of bugs and disease am I potentially going to expose her to? She will also be in a covered patio. How do I keep her safe? Thank You, Joyce https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_R7g4lAuZc Hi Joyce,   Thanks for your questions and your sincere concern for your Amazon's safety.   I have had companion parrots for 30+  years and for 7 years had an outdoor breeder aviary.   I currently happily share my life with a single Timneh African Grey, Timmy, who is a rescue from a bad home but tame and loving even after what he has been through (including being batted against a wall, losing consciousness).   I do clip wings slightly to prevent upward flight, unlike Mitch and Catherine.   But that is a personal choice and I love to hear of flighted birds. So I am not truly an advocate of clipping, it's just best in my situation.   I live on the east coast of Central Florida, just south of Kennedy Space Center and only 4 blocks from the ocean.   This area is sub-tropical, just as your weather is right now in Texas. We also have summers much like yours (hot, hot, hot and often dry), though you probably have colder winters than we do.   The only concerns you should have about your bird outdoors as long as it is safely caged or in a harness or flight suit is it consuming standing water or any grasses that could have been sprayed with pesticides and the ambient temperature.   Cool strong breezes can cause respiratory infections or "colds". Overheating can kill quickly if not recognized and controlled. Consuming or chewing on items that may not be bird safe such as metals, pressure treated wood, and similar items could cause poisoning that could kill the bird.      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Waf2e3rAGHg   While we humans are plagued by concerns such as West Nile Virus, Zika Virus, Malaria and other maladies due to insect bites from mosquitoes and are plagued by other stinging insects, my research and personal experience have revealed no diseases transmitted to parrots via bug bites.   Consider this: our parrots evolved to live in pest-infested jungles with insects we've never encountered, yet they remain healthy.   On good weather days, my Timmy and I go outside in the unfiltered sunlight for at least 20 minutes to help both our bodies produce needed Vitamin D naturally. It also helps us absorb the vitamins we consume in food.   While I get bug bites if I do not protect against it, Timmy never is bothered.   Perhaps it is the way parrot feathers  create a tight, thick layer of protection between the environment and their skin so that biting pests can't penetrate the feathers.   The only pest I am aware of that you should worry about is mites. The only way your Amazon would get these is if you allowed him to play extensively in outdoor trees where these pests live.   Wild birds live with them but you don't want to bring them inside your house as they do cause itching in birds. This is why you should wash and bake at low temperature for 20-30 minutes any branches brought indoors for perches. This ensures any mites present are killed.   When outdoors, use the temperature rule that if you are hot and perspiring, the bird is also getting too hot, and if you feel chilly, so does your bird.   Also, during hot weather if the bird opens its beak as if panting, go into a cool area or spray water on the bird because that is a sign of overheating which can kill quickly. Parrots have no sweat glands to control body temperature.   When you are outdoors, you experience pests, so I'd like to refer you to a blog post about bird-safe insect repellents, Mitch and Catherine use these and so do I, they are all natural and keep pests away from you and the parrot.   Visit 6 Bird Safe All Natural Home Made Mosquito Repellants....... I know you will find it useful. You can make a batch and use it for the rest of the season. It has been bird-tested with Mitch and Catherine's birds and mine. The repellents really do work well and are safe with the single exception that you might have an allergy to an ingredient.   To test for that, drop one drop of the oil on a  cotton ball and quickly touch it to your skin. If no reaction appears (redness, itching, burning, discomfort of any kind) then you are not allergic to the ingredients. Most people are not allergic to any of the ingredients but there are rare exceptions.   If you read the ingredients and the essential oil is made from a plant or flower you know you are allergic to, then you are allergic to the essential oil. If that is the case, choose one of the mixtures that do not contain that specific ingredient or simply leave it out of the mixture.   For indoor pest control, I recommend Mango Pest Control Aviary Bug Spray for general pest control and if you have any concerns regarding mites, use Mango DynaMyte Mite/Lice Pest Control.     Both products are totally bird safe and very effective. You might even want to spray around the cage outside with these products. Do allow them to dry before permitting your bird to enter the area and, of course, do not spray directly on the bird.   They have residual effects for up to one week if the area remains dry, although outdoors it might be less, especially if rain gets the area wet. But they dry quickly so it is not a long wait to spray again around the outdoor cage after dampness or rain.   I hope these helps. If you have further questions or concerns, please contact me.   Nora Caterino [email protected] Curated and edited by mitch rezman approved by catherine your zygodactyl footnote Read the full article

Let's Talk About Bird Poop - It Says What Your Bird Can't
Tumblr media
So let's talk about poop:-) What got me thinking about the topic is a recent e-mail from a customer considering buying an HQ bird cage. She bought a Molucaan Cockatoo from a pet shop 16 years ago. She's been shopping there for 16 years and last year bought a dome top birdcage from them. After one year the bottom tray of the cage had started rusting out. She talked about having bought all of her supplies from this particular pet shop including walnut shells which are used as bedding in the bottom of the cage. She wasn't sure of the make of the cage. The e-mail went on to question our policies and warranties on bird cages because the pet shop was not going to provide any renumeration on the rusted tray. That's a whole other subject (bird cage maintenance) but it got me thinking about the Walnut shells and the rusted tray. We have always been strong proponents of using newspaper (or paper of some sort) as a liner for bird cage trays. It's cheap, it's plentiful and it's easy to dispose of. We have seen rolls of brown wrapping paper that been used. We know of people that go to their local newspaper publisher who will give them the cores of the newsprint rolls for free. If allergens are in issue you can even consider antimicrobial paper from Prevue Pet We have a problem with bedding, actually a couple. First of all it (bedding) retains moisture and in the case of birds, the moisture is uric acid as in acid. Acid will eat through the best powder coating and eventually the metal of the strongest of bird cages. Second - it (bedding) hides the poop which is something that you need to watch a regular basis - which we'll get to in a minute. It can also hide all sorts of infestations, parasites and other critters. Paper that is changed daily, solves these issues. Now we're not advocating that you analyze every dropping your bird produces but we want you to be aware of certain factors which can be indicators of ill health. Bird poop has three parts, the stool, urine, and uric acid. A change in the property of any of these three items -stool (or feces), the solid part - urine and uric acid (urates) - may indicate that your bird is sick. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnwEucP-Eik The stool comes directly from the digestive tract and is the greenish blob you see. It's color is affected by diet, change the diet and the stool changes color. Blueberries can turn the stool purple. Artificial colors in some diets can change the color of the stool too. What you really want to look for is if the stool becomes black and suddenly emits strong odor, this would be a warning sign of illness. Urine is basically clear and is the watery part of poop that comes from your birds kidneys. If your bird drinks more water the droppings will be looser. Dry foods should produce drier poop. If you see unusually large amounts of water in the droppings making the poop very loose - this could be an indication of an illness. The white creamy colored stuff is the uric acid and this is a key indicator of your bird's overall health. It should be white or near white in color. If the white uric acid should turn to lime green, mustard brown, brick red or yellow, this should be a red flag that your bird is ill - a call to the vet would be in order. Although record-keeping is a good thing, at the very least you should simply look for changes in your birds poop as a possible indication of illness https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sb8t4xJuZOc African Grey Parrot on toilet Obviously poop is directly related to a bird's diet. Birds that eat nothing but seed will typically pass dry, sticky, greenish-black poop that can indicate malnourishment. Conversely some healthy cockatiels have light green bird poop which is normal. Females that are laying eggs drink more water and spend more time in the nest box which makes them hold their droppings. When they exit the nest box and enter the cage they usually produce big, smelly droppings. Weaning formula given to baby birds will cause the baby birds to have large droppings comprise mostly of urine. If you see bubbles or foam in the poop, this may indicate an infection. Conversely if your bird is straining to poop this could be a big indicator that your bird is suffering from a physical blockage caused by some sort of growth or egg-binding. If you think your bird is sick in and your vet asks you to bring in fecal samples for testing the way to do it is shown in this video from Dr. Ross Perry We have intentionally avoided listing potential diseases and infections that poop may be indicative of because were not veterinarians. We just want you to be aware of the properties of poop and God knows your bird produces enough of it. Can you potty train your bird? Clearly it's possible as indicated by the videos above. One simple way to start is knowing that birds poop roughly every 15 to 20 min. The spread can be as short as 10 minutes and as much is 40. The point is if you can capture the "rhythm" of your birds poop let's say every 15 minutes. If your bird hasn't pooped on you or the furniture, put your bird back on top of his cage and let him poop. Reward him and praise him with the high voice, offer your hand for a step up and engage your bird for while. In 15 or 20 minutes your bird hasn't pooped put him back on the cage, let him poop and repeat the process for few days. This small time invested in this type of "potty" training will pay off handsomely in the time saved from not cleaning poop off furniture, clothing, doors and the floor. Please let us know if you would like to add to this information or if you have any questions. Feel free to post any comments to our Facebook fan page found here. writted by mitch rezman approved by catherine tobsing your zygodactyl footnote   Click to Post
