7 Tips for a Hassle-Free Destination Wedding in Cancun or Riviera Maya Mexico
Planning a destination wedding in Cancun? Congratulations! Here are our top 7 tips to ensure your big day is stress-free and absolutely perfect.
Choose the Right Time of Year Cancun is stunning year-round, but it's important to consider the weather and tourist seasons. The best time for a wedding is during the dry season, from November to April. This ensures sunny skies and pleasant temperatures for your special day.
Hire a Local Wedding Planner A local wedding planner is invaluable. They know the best vendors, venues, and have insider knowledge that can save you time and stress. Plus, they can handle any unexpected issues that arise on-site, allowing you to relax and enjoy your wedding.
Visit the Venue in Advance If possible, take a trip to Cancun before the wedding to visit potential venues, meet with vendors, and finalize details. This will give you peace of mind and ensure everything meets your expectations.
Simplify Your Décor Less is more when you’re surrounded by the natural beauty of Cancun. Opt for simple, elegant décor that complements the stunning backdrop of beaches and lush landscapes. This also makes logistics easier and reduces stress.
Plan for Guest Comfort Consider your guests’ experience. Provide welcome bags with essentials like sunscreen, bug spray, and a schedule of events. Make sure there’s plenty of shade and hydration options during the ceremony and reception to keep everyone comfortable.
Understand Legal Requirements Ensure you understand and fulfill all legal requirements for getting married in Mexico. This may include obtaining certain documents, translations, and blood tests. Your wedding planner can help guide you through this process.
Embrace the Local Culture Incorporate local traditions and flavors into your wedding. From a mariachi band to authentic Mexican cuisine, adding local elements can make your wedding unique and memorable for you and your guests.
By following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to having a beautiful, hassle-free destination wedding in Cancun. Happy planning, and here’s to your perfect day in paradise!

Unico riviera maya wedding
I couldn’t have asked for anyone better to capture our wedding.Flights can be added to any package at time of booking. Emily was the best photographer and she was so sweet and attentive. Invest in a great photographer! These pictures are what you’ll have to look back on your special day. Also, something that was very important to me was photography. Also, remember the moment that you first see each other on your wedding day, and let loose at the reception! We made the best memories with our family and friends at the reception that we will be talking about for years. Don’t stress too much over stuff you can’t control. My best advice is to be calm and in the moment. When I walked down the aisle and saw Ryan my nerves disappeared. Once I made my way down to the beach, I was getting very nervous and anxious. The whole day getting ready for the wedding I was very calm. Q: What was your favorite memory from your big day?Ī:My favorite memory from our wedding day was finally getting to see Ryan. I only got one bite of it at the reception, but it was absolutely amazing. The decoration was very minimal, which I loved. It was a two-tier vanilla cake with fresh strawberries mixed in. I had her do white roses and eucalyptus since I knew that I would have eucalyptus and greenery for decoration at the gazebo we got married at.Ī: Our cake was also provided by the resort. I had them made my one of my friends’ mom in my hometown. My bridesmaid’s and the groomsmen’s flowers were artificial. It was a bouquet of white roses Ryan’s boutonniere was a single white rose. My flowers were actually provided for me by the resort. We had it customized to be strapless and it ended up being absolutely perfect. When I purchased it, it had a spaghetti strap style top. My gown was a Martin Thornburg Mon Cheri dress. I purchased my gown from Pomp and Pageantry in Oklahoma City. We have been together now for 4 years now. I had no idea that the first night I moved that I would meet him. Complete fate! When I moved to Oklahoma City from my small hometown, I had hoped I would meet my future husband someday. Ryan and I met on the very first night that I moved to Oklahoma City. I found a lot of my inspiration on Pinterest.Ī little bit of backstory from the bride: I wanted to keep the palette very clean and minimal. I didn’t want a lot of color since we were getting married next to the beach, and the gazebo ended up having a lot of greenery. My main and only color in the wedding was blue (Ryan and I both love the color blue). What was your color palette and style vision? Photography: Emily Nicole Photo | venue: Unico Hotel Riviera Maya | hair and makeup: Adney Artistry | wedding dress: Pomp and Pageantry | The Unico Hotel Riviera Maya in Mexico featured vendors: I could get used to this 😉 UNICO 2087 Hotel Riviera Maya I had so much fun with this crew, sweet friends & family that welcomed me in!! I flew out of OKC with the family & wedding party on Sunday, got to hangout and relax with them around the gorgeous UNICO 20º87º Hotel Riviera Maya till the wedding Wednesday. This wedding took place at the UNICO 2087 Hotel Riviera Maya in Mexico.

Let me just start this blog post by saying that sometimes the stars align, you meet someone that brings you joy, they enrich your lives and will forever hold a special place in your heart. While there is no doubt that Theresa and Nate have this but here, I am talking about my relationship with this couple. Theresa is truly one of the sweetest, most hard working individuals that I have ever met and she can no longer be called a client, I knew this, I felt this about 5 minutes into meeting her…she is my friend and I treasure her.
Our day started at Theresa’s sisters home with pre-ceremony coverage, where I truly believe that I witnessed a family dynamic that is unparalleled on so many levels. The entire family gets along so well and it made everything run so smoothly that we were able to leave and arrive at the Timberhouse to continue the getting ready photos. Once we completed the pre-ceremony coverage with Theresa complete with photos of her very soon to be in laws, we proceeded to another area to get photos of Nate and his family and groomsmen.
I have met Nate a few times but the stunning woman that is his mother has got to be the reason to which I had the honor of photographing Theresa and Nate’s wedding. Nate’s mother, Susan AKA Sue is so sweet and a long time friend of ours. She is an amazing chocolatier and the owner, operator of Noland Chocolates. Seriously, if you have not tried her chocolates, they are a must! They are so delicious and creamy and the take away box that Theresa and Nate packed up for me at the end of the night seriously saved my sanity of the weeks following their wedding haha. October is always a crazy month for me with several, always popular October weddings and my amazing daughter Addison’s birthday is on Halloween, which since she was born has become a month long celebration with Pumpkin Festivals and Fall farm visits all month long. But truly Sue Noland’s chocolates are amazing and I insist you try them I promise you won’t be disappointed!
FAVORITE MOMENT OF THE DAY: Pre-ceremony…who knew that it could or would happen so soon! Theresa and Nate’s only photo request was that we capture their prayer prior to the ceremony. You will see tons of wedding samples on Pinterest that have a photo of the bride and groom on either side of the door, to preserve that precious first moment of seeing each other as being that moment that she walks down the aisle but this, this was different. These two are starting their lives together is the best way, they are putting God first! A marriage requires three people for it to be whole, to be successful, for it to be long lasting and true. Those three people are a bride, a groom and God. These two…they just get it!
We had gorgeous 82 degree weather and the Timberhouse steps set the stage for this amazing couple to get married. The ceremony had all the perfect elements to unite these two, there was family, friends, laughter, tears, pure joy and excitement!
Following the ceremony we use those same steps for family photographs, I LOVE how you can see the reflection of the gorgeous fall trees in the reflection above that window, immediately followed, by bridal party and bride and groom portraits. This Rolling Acres Golf Course and Timberhouse have so many options for photography that we just simply walked across the street to capture all those special moments.
After heading in to the reception, they made quick work of the first dance, toasts and blessing. Now in talking with the couple they expressed extreme interest in sunset photos, based on our timeline that sun was going to set right in the middle of dinner, while I wouldn’t normally interrupt a couples dinner for photos, let’s be honest, we need that break for food as well, but Theresa said to come get her and we will go. So we hit up the buffet line after immediate family, scarfed our food and got back to work. Boy o Boy am I glad we did! The sunset portraits are definitely my favorites, the sky was fairly clear and the colors are spectacular. I also LOVE getting that photo on the front steps of the Timberhouse with the warm ambient light indoors contrasting with the cool twilight sky outdoors. I feel these moments are essential to a successful wedding; it gives the couple a moment to calm down, regroup and realize just how quickly this day is flying by and to really savor the moment of THEIR day!
Following dinner we started the dancing off with parents dances. Theresa and her father, followed by Nate and Sue and in quick succession was Theresa and her step father, bridal party and open dance floor. Open dance floor, there wasn’t an open space on that dance floor that wasn’t being occupied but a guest dancing the night away! Everyone was having so much fun and it was a blessing for us to capture all the love in that room. Speaking of love and it may just be my second favorite moment of the day, let’s talk about Nate’s dad Pat and his mad dancing skills, now I don’t want to call myself judgmental but maybe I just happen to lump all men into a category of non-dancers and bad dancers LOL. I see a lot of my dad’s “type” in Pat, strong, hardworking, amazing providers and fantastic fathers…but my Dad will slow dance with my mom but that is 100% absolutely it, my Dad would never even consider “fast” dancing on the dance floor! I truthfully don’t know why I do this judgment, my husband is a dancer, he’s quite good also, he has good rhythm and doesn’t look goofy at all. I just never in a million years expected that from Pat, to the point where my husband was jealous and taking notes haha. Kidding of course, but it was one of those moments where I thought to myself, everyone should have video at their weddings because this is fantastic! Theresa, please tell me someone, anyone captured this!
We left shortly after the garter and bouquet but not before hugging and congratulating my dear friends Theresa and Nate. That’s when Theresa asked if WE could get a picture together, I don’t get very often but once in a while and let me just say, its super sweet and I treasure it each time it does happen, it really shows me that I have made some sort of impact on this bride, I am appreciated and an important part of their day. While I HATE having my photo taken just as much as nearly every groom I encounter, which is why I am behind it haha.
I will forever treasure Theresa and Nate, as clients whom I was honored to photograph on their wedding day, but more importantly I am blessed to call them friends. We made a promise on her wedding day that just because the wedding day was “over” that we would remain friends and stay in touch, I intend to keep that promise because I made a vow many years ago to surround myself with kindness, with people who have good values and integrity, people who love the Lord and recognize their blessings as much as I do and those who just simply make me feel good.
These are the Hands
These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day, as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow, and forever.
These are the hands that will work alongside yours, as together you build your future.
These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch, will comfort you like no other.
These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief fills your mind.
These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes; tears of sorrow, and tears of joy.
These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children.
These are the hands that will help you to hold your family as one.
These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it.
And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged, will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.

For couples who want a view of the turquoise water, and feel of sand under their feet, a beachfront wedding is the perfect option. There are also a large number of coves, tucked away across the property that have an incredibly private feel where you can choose to host your wedding ceremony. Then there is the chapel, high atop a mound reached by an elegant staircase, which you can get married inside of, or at the bottom of the steps leading up to it – both venues are gorgeous, and make for a perfect backdrop for your guests, and your photos.
Once it’s time to start partying, you can host cocktail hours at many of the different coves, which overlook the winding river, waterfall, and more! Then for the dinner and reception you can take advantage of many of the onsite restaurants, continue the party on the beach, or stay in the coves – which we cannot recommend enough due to their element of privacy, and how absolutely unique they are.
With so many options to choose from for the wedding ceremony, and all the perks of staying at this property, we cannot wait to see more weddings take place at the Hotel Xcaret!

Mayan Train’s fast track raising concerns in Mexico
Mayan Train’s fast track raising concerns in Mexico MEXICO CITY — Maps, renderings and charts paper the walls of a government conference room. They lay out in detail the plans for a rail line that could be Mexico’s biggest infrastructure project in a century. President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has put the multibillion-dollar Mayan Train project on a fast track. He says it will provide an economic boon for the poor communities of Mexico’s long neglected southeast by bringing in more tourists and the hotels, restaurants and other businesses needed to serve them. Yet, among the papers on that wall at Mexico’s tourism development agency is a chart showing that the Mayan Train is being pursued at a pace that outside observers say could threaten its feasibility, the environment and the people the president wants to help. The chart in the Fonatur offices outlines planning, contracting and building times for 45 recent train projects in Canada, Australia, Britain and France. Those projects, which do not approach the Mayan Train’s length, averaged seven to 10 years to complete. And there’s the rub: Lopez Obrador is limited to a single six-year term and wants the trains running before he leaves office Dec. 1, 2024. The chart says the nearly 950 miles (1,525 kilometres) of the Mayan Train will be finished in 4.8 years, with nearly all of the time savings coming from the planning and contracting phases. “Yes, we’ve skipped some steps, but we are forced to by the circumstances of the political terms,” said Rogelio Jimenez Pons, director of Fonatur who says government planners are also working with international experts and the United Nations. “It’s a six-year term, so if you don’t get at least a year of operation for the project it’s at serious risk.”
Maps, renderings and charts paper the walls of a government conference room. They lay out in detail the plans for a rail line that could be Mexico’s biggest infrastructure project in a century. Lopez Obrador himself underlined that point by making one of his first presidential acts the cancelling of a partially built $13 billion new airport for Mexico City that was begun by his predecessor. The Mayan Train would circle the Yucatan Peninsula and drop a spur south to near the border with Guatemala. It would serve tourists and workers at Cancun and the glistening resorts of the Riviera Maya, but also haul cargo. Lopez Obrador says the project will fulfil his dream of helping the people of the southeast and will display a new brand of inclusive development and respect for the environment. “Not a single tree will be felled,” the president has said — a promise that strains credulity for a project that is intended to travel through jungle, even if it is along existing right of way. An immediate question for many is whether planning and executing a megaproject can really be carried out so quickly. And what about its projected cost of $6.3 billion to $7.9 billion (120 billion to 150 billion pesos)? The Mexican Institute for Competitiveness, a public policy think-tank , published a study last month predicting the cost would come in at four times that — $25.3 billion (480 billion pesos). Its report also urged not to rush the project without careful planning. “There aren’t serious cost-benefit analysis studies, nor a study about demand, nor a serious study of bids that will really have a projection of this train,” said Ana Thais Martinez, a researcher who wrote the study.
Mexico’s other recent rail project, a 36-mile (58-kilometre) commuter line between Mexico City and Toluca, is already 90% over its initial $2 billion budget and remains unfinished after more than six years of construction. She also noted that Mexico’s other recent rail project, a 36-mile (58-kilometre) commuter line between Mexico City and Toluca, is already 90% over its initial $2 billion budget and remains unfinished after more than six years of construction. It was supposed to be completed by 2017. Jimenez Pons, the Mayan Train’s point man, said the government will pay only about 10% of the project’s cost, while the private sector picks up the rest through what will essentially be costly contracts to operate the train service. Development around each of the line’s 15 proposed stations would be overseen by Fonatur, but by using real estate investment trusts the land would remain in the hands of property owners, essentially making them partners. The train’s cargo hauling service is to be its most important source of revenue, while passenger ticket prices are expected to be subsidized, Jimenez Pons said. Martinez’s report noted that running passenger and freight trains on the same line is complicated, and it suggested the government’s expectations for cargo revenue could be overly optimistic. There are also concerns about the environmental impact. New track would be laid through the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO-recognized area of wide biological diversity that is Mexico’s largest tropical jungle and home to important pre-Hispanic archaeological ruins. And the region is perforated by underground rivers and caverns. A Fonatur presentation based on a preliminary environmental study in the state of Campeche obtained by The Associated Press highlighted potential “critical impacts” on wildlife during construction of track, stations and associated tourism infrastructure. Some effects could be mitigated, but they would require careful study, it said. So far, people in the areas that would be affected say they have received little information about the project and its impact, even as land speculation surges around them. Jimenez Pons promises that all of the required environmental impact studies and public consultations with indigenous communities will be completed. Jimenez Pons has known Lopez Obrador for decades and says the president has been thinking about this train for many years as a way to benefit the southeast. “This isn’t a whim, an imposition or because Mexico’s president is from the southeast,” Lopez Obrador said in December at an indigenous ceremony in Palenque where he sought Mother Earth’s blessing for the project. “Above all it’s an act of justice, because it’s been the most abandoned region, and now the southeast’s hour has arrived.” Einar Jesus Medina Borges has been shuttling tourists around the colonial gem of Merida in a horse-drawn carriage since he was a teenager. The train sounds good to Medina, who heads the local carriage drivers’ union, because it could bring more tourists to his inland city. Still, he has concerns. “What we also have in mind is what ecological impact is this project going to have?” Medina said. “The people in charge of all this need to make sure it causes the least ecological damage, ecological impact, possible.” Another concern is not so much the train itself, but the tourist infrastructure that would be developed around proposed stations, especially one that would serve the Calakmul reserve. If government projections prove true, bringing 3 million annual visitors to an area that has only about 30,000 residents today would be a mammoth change. “The project has major ecological implications and the design has to change and the magnitude has to change so nothing serious happens,” said Jorge Benitez, an ecologist who has studied the reserve for years and published a paper on the potential impact of the train. He has joined a technical advisory board to the project and says officials have so far been receptive to his concerns and have even heeded calls to include the construction of wildlife corridors over the rail line. Jimenez Pons said environmental impact statements are beginning for areas, including Calakmul, where there are no existing railways — about half the proposed route. But the time pressure looms. “We’re racing the clock, but it’s possible,” he said. —— Associated Press writer Peter Orsi in Merida contributed to this report. Destination Wedding at the Hard Rock Riviera Maya. Would not have had it any other way! Our closest family and friends came to celebrate one of the most memorable days of our lives. I can truly emphasize on the days part. As many weddings are usually the 8-12 hours, between the getting ready.... ceremony.... cocktail.. and reception, the most amazing part about destination weddings is you get to celebrate and spend time and share special moments with Each and Every One of your guests, as the celebration is for multiple days.
We hired a travel agent/ event planner to help us with this whole process. She helped us with the room bookings, to get materials from the resort on decor, set up, menus etc. We also had a Day of Coordinator at the resort who we met with as soon as we were checking in. Of course myself being Myself, I wanted to customize and make our Special Day far from cookie cutter. They accommodated in every way they could possibly do so.
The days leading up to the wedding were unforgettable, we got to spend time with everyone. My Husband and I arrived a day earlier than any of our guest so we could just enjoy each other before the festivities began. We got our last minute details situated as well as booked some relaxing Spa time for ourselves so leading to the Big Day we could just relax and essentially BE ON VACATION! As guests started to arrive, some few days before others we were able to spend one and one time with, and was beyond grateful as they got to enjoy the amenities this amazing resort had to offer, as well as take this time to relax from their daily busy lives as well.
We were nervous as we were worried since we had such a large party and many of our guests would either feel lost... or just stick with their "cliches" but with events planned leading up to out wedding... The Welcome Party, days spent just hangin out at the pool, Rehearsal Dinner.. it just got everyone familiar with each other.
The most stressful part in my perspective was 1 bringing certain items to the destination. We had our Wedding Party Gifts, Welcome Bags, Favors, Gift Card Box, Guest Puzzle, and many other miscellaneous items. As soon as we got them over *checked them in on the plane* and to the resort, our day of coordinator retrieved the items immediately. To make everyones life easier, we noted what items were in each box, me as the event planner that I am, put extra notes and of course POST ITs on each item directing to where each other should be.
Another Crazy stress I had was my Bouquet. A bouquet to me holds a very sentimental value, as I have been a bridesmaid to my cousins Special Days, my mother has kept the bouquets and have dried them. Customs was my biggest fear as it would have broken my heart to have them take it away at TSA- as rightfully so. To alleviate my worries, I had my florist who is beyond amazing recreate the bouquet I wanted but with fake florals. Greatest party about it.... no custom worries and Forever they will last and look the same as they did the day before. Unfortunately as absentminded as many brides get the day of with the hectic schedule one goes through... I forgot mine during the photoshoot after the ceremony. BUT please learn from my mistake and HOLD ON DEARLY if you are as sentimental as I am with your bouquet.
I relive this spectacular, memorable day over and over, and honestly tear up when the flashback of my father walking me down the aisle to my Forever, and that look my Husband had, literally all the worries and stress leading up to that Very moment was all erased. My surroundings were gone, it was just me and him up there. As all brides say it is the most amazing day of your life, more unforgettable moment in ones life, truly is an understatement.

Your Destination Wedding Day Wish List
I love watching destination wedding videos! For instance, the music, the tears of joy, the wedding kiss and beautiful vacation backdrop, just to name a few. All couples want their wedding memories freeze-framed to last a lifetime. So, first and foremost you’ll want to compare wedding videos to get a feel for what you love. Secondly, you’ll want to create a list of what to ask your videographer. Now come the timeline and music choices. Lastly, and most importantly, you’ll want to combine all of the above using the help of a very knowledgeable and experienced videographer. As a seasoned travel agent, I’ve worked with hundreds of destination wedding couples. Below are my six best hacks to make your wedding video vision a treasured memory.
Your Destination Wedding Day Wish List
As mentioned above, you’ll want to put your wedding in the hands of a very experienced wedding videographer. The tried and truly videographers will happily provide you with a list of their most recent work. An even better company will proudly feature their best work on their website. My Love Films. By reviewing wedding videos of their former clients, you can get some inspiration for what you like best. I love having examples of great work, such as My Love Films, to showcase to my clients. It’s so reassuring to see the previous work of the videographer. Most importantly, because most of our clients aren’t able to meet their wedding videographer until they are in destination. If the budget allows, I also recommend booking your photographer and videographer with the same company. It creates impressive synchronicity during your wedding day events taking away any worries about your wedding day story.
Destination Wedding Videography Hit Lists
Because I have worked extensively with wedding couples over the years, I’ve learned a thing or two about what brides want. Most importantly, what takeaways they cherish most from their wedding day events. Whether walking down the aisle, or the ceremony kiss. These as well as other key moments vitally important to capture. Some golden moments you’ll want to consider are reception speeches. You never know what’s coming and many speeches are talked about for years to come. Not to mention capturing your very special first dance as a married couple. And how fun is capturing that funny and often very memorable cutting of the cake. If the budget allows you’ll also want to consider adding in some family and friends, best wishes. In conclusion, your videographer will be your best resource in finding out what is most essential for you when you want to relive your fairytale wedding day.
Videographers – Who to Hire
There are a plethora of options out there when hiring a videographer. Especially in the Cancun and Riviera Maya region, where we do the majority of our weddings. Riviera Maya Weddings and Cancun Weddings. Photography and videography are one of the first questions my bride ask about once their wedding is booked. Having a local videographer in your destination of choice is highly recommended. Be sure to work with a reputable destination wedding specialist planner, who can provide a list of preferred vendors. It’s a great way to help narrow down your videographer choices. Consideration of their style is another way to find out if the videographer is the right choice for you. Reputable photographers such as My Love Films are a superior company and one that comes highly recommended by (Liz Moore destination Weddings).
Destination Wedding Videographer- Top Questions
Most importantly, find out if your favorite videographer is available on your wedding date. With so many resorts available in the Cancun/Riviera Maya area, the best of the best get booked well in advance. As a travel agent, it’s one of the very first suggestions I advise my clients after they choose their wedding venue and resort. After that, your videography budget is a good idea to sort out early as well. How many hours would you like your wedding filmed? Having a running list of your wish list against the costs of hours filmed is fantastic to know early on. Of course, I always recommend increasing the budget bit for both photography and videography. There are always special moments you’ll want a little wiggle room price-wise as you get closer to the date.
Our First Dance as a Couple
Nothing puts memories in a music video like the music itself, don’t you agree. I love listening to music along as I relive the wedding festivities. Your wedding videographer is the most valuable resource when it comes to choosing your music. They can offer great suggestions for popular playlists. They know the trends and the tried and true emotion invoking songs. If you are keeping your wedding video, you may be ok with choosing certain popular music. However, if you haven’t used licensed music before, here is an excellent selection of wedding music to consider Most Romantic Wedding Music.
What Will my Wedding Videography Cost Me
Pricing can vary a bit when it comes to capturing your special day on film. A good videographer will offer a comprehensive list of options. Also, within a package and add, there will generally be some al la carte options as well. My Love Films Services. I recommend going through the options on the companies website. Once you have a general idea of costs, it’s time to set up a call with your favourite videographer. Skype, facetime and WhatsApp are great ways to see your videographer in person. Similarly, it allows you to build a repore and see if this is the videographer for you. I can’t emphasize enough here that having a bit of a cushion in your budget for extras is highly recommended. Once on the property, you may see and experience something that you’ll want to capture in your memories forever. It happens more than you think!
I hope you have received some helpful tips and insight into booking the videographer of your dreams. My Love Films is a popular favorite for me as well as many other destination wedding specialists. In conclusion, booking the destination wedding videographer of your dreams is possible. It’s also one of the very best wedding investments you’ll make for keeping those treasured wedding moments in your hearts forever.
