You had a specific plan for your life. Graduate high school, graduate college, get a secure job, get a nice place, and then- and only then would you be ready for a boyfriend.

Now you were always prepared for a few wrenches being thrown in the plan. Like trouble finding a safe area or having to switch schools. You were ready for a few changes in the plan. You were not ready for Terushima Yuuji, and what was not a part of the plan was marrying him two years after you graduated high school.

But what was done was done and you unfortunately were undoubtedly in love with him. So you tied the knot and tied the former high school player down.

The night after the wedding the two of you toasted to the rest of your lives on a moonlit beach in Cancun.

“We’re gonna do this right, I’m gonna do this husband thing right,” he promises you.

“Yeah, we got this,” you agree.

But I still write the most hurtful words I could find

“She likes you,” you told him two weeks into marriage.

“But I love you!” Terushima defends, “if you could just trust me on this-”

“I don’t!” you scream, “I wonder why.”

Fight all night

But somehow when the sun rises

“Y/N,” he whispers, as the morning sun hits your skin in all the right ways, “are you okay?”

You turn around to face him nodding as you say, “I’m okay. You?”

“Yeah, yeah, I’m okay.”

“Are we gonna be okay?”

“Yeah, I think so.”

I'm shocked we're both surviving

But I still feel like fuck you

“Least favorite thing about me,” Terushima asks you one morning.

“You’re really flirtatious to strangers.”

“That’s how I got you though,” he teases.

“Okay, but why are you still doing it?” you ask and his playful tone drops.

“Oh, so you want me to change my whole personality?”

“Your personality shouldn’t be telling every girl how hot they look.”

“That’s what you think of me?”

“No-”

“Wow.”

Baby, you still feel like fuck me

“You know, I think you start shit. That’s my least favorite thing about you.”

“What no I don’t.”

“You so do, You always poke holes in everything, it’s like you want us to break up.”

“The fact that you would even say that when you-”

I know things can get so ugly

But still' how I'd get so lucky?

“Do you wanna dance with me?”

It’s midnight when he asks you. The fight had finished hours before and now the two of you were sitting on the couch silently watching a movie.

“What?” you respond.

“Do you wanna dance with me?”

“With what music?”

He doesn’t answer that question. Instead, he grabs your hand and pulls you off of the couch. He reaches into his pocket to pull out his phone having a song already picked out and he presses play.

It only takes a few moments for it to register: the fact that he was playing, “our song,” you realize.

“I love you,” he tells you, as he guides your hands up to his neck and he lets his fall to your waist.

“I love you.”

To have found someone so awesome

I thank God I've finally got one

“We’ve come a long way,” you note, looking back on yearbook photos with Terushima.

“High school sweethearts to this. Married before we even hit twenty-one.”

“Still together at twenty-six,” you remind him, and the two of you high five.

And if that one dies

“Wait… if we get divorced,” he says pausing to knock on the wood of your bed frame then continues, “what do we do?”

“We start dating again,” you answer and lets out a long ‘ohh’

“Yeah, you’re right baby. For lifers.”

“For life.”

I'll plant another seed and watch a new one rise

One day, Terushima came home from work and collapsed on top of you. He claimed over and over again that he was tired as you stroked his hair but you knew something was up.

“Do you want some takeout from down the street?”

“We only go there when I’m sad.”

“Mhm.”

“How’d you know?” Terushima asks, and you can’t tell if he really thought he was good at hiding his emotions.

You laugh instead of answering, simply grabbing your car keys and leading him out the door.

'Cause I know you so well, we might as well be twins

So we kiss, and we argue, and argue again

“Makeup?” he asks, pouting and wiping away a tear that streamed down your face.

You nod and he leads you to the bedroom

It gets like that when your lover's your best friend

You take me to heaven, but giving me hell

“Baby?” you call, “did you RSVP for that wedding?”

“What wedding?”

“He’s one of your former teammates. You promised him you’d help plan.”

“Again, what wedding?”

You pause, “so no?”

“Yeah, probably not.”

“Yuuji, baby,” you say calmly, “I love you, but sometimes, I just wanna kill you.”

“Aww, you love me?”

You know you can win in an argument

You take your shirt off whenever I get mad

“You’re being so-” you scream and Terushima crosses his arms as he grabs the hem of his shirt before he pulls it off.

“I- what the hell.”

“I got hot,” he shrugs.

“I’m trying to be mad at you!”

“Be mad at me shirtless then.”

You stare at him for a long time before you roll your eyes, before walking over to him and he picks you up, supporting you by having his hands under your thighs.

“Hi, baby,” he smiles.

“Shut up.”

If I had to choose one, you would be the one

Even when you got your clothes on

'Cause baby, I hate you sometimes

“Most irritating person you know, go!”

“You!” you answer without thinking then slap your hand over your mouth. “Sorry,” you muffle.

“No, you’re the most irritating too.”

“Awww,” you gush and he kisses your pout.

“How dare he!” you shout, throwing your jacket down as soon as you enter the door.

Terushima, coming in right behind you, picking your jacket up as he says, “who even asked him to speak?”

“Sure as hell wasn’t me!”

“Or me! ‘I’m surprised you made it’ shut up!”

“I mean we’re a little rough around the edges,” you admit, “but we’re fucking good together!”

“The best!” he agrees, “how can he not see that? We’ve been married for six years now!”

“And you’re clearly my everything!”

“Mine too! Wait,” he pauses, “really?”

“Yeah,” you confirm, “Yuuji we’re married,” you remind him.

“I know I just…” he says his voice trailing off and you cup his cheek.

“Hey, we’re far- and I mean really far from perfect, but I could never see myself with anyone but you.”

“I don’t want anyone else either.”

“Good,” you say smiling as you wrap your arms around his neck and he wraps his around your waist, “because, no one else would love you anyway,” you tease and he slaps your ass, laughing.

“Yeah, fuck you too.”

“No”

“No”

“No, no, no, no” I said, flipping the page in my book.

“Didn’t you read that before?” I heard Aaron ask me.

I looked up from the book to see him looking down at me. I sat up on the couch. I set the book on the table.

“Yes” I said. “And?”

“Looked familiar” Aaron said.

“One of my favorite books” I said to him. “Just Kids. Patti Smith. Recommend a read”

Aaron shrugged at me. Billie walked into the dressing room with Chris. Aaron and I looked to each other.

“Want to walk around backstage?” He asked me.

“Sure” I agreed.

I stood up from the couch. I followed Aaron out of the room.

Nothing really changed between Billie and I. She was still ignoring and avoiding me at any chance - not doing yoga together, not going out for drinks, not even doing our beloved pre-show ritual anymore. Everyone knew things weren’t quite well between us. The crew knew. Most of the fans knew. I’m starting to suspect some of the media knew too.

Billie only talks to me if she needs to. Like if Chris was running late or we had to do an emergency rehearsal - and if no one was around to tell me. We only spoke about work, not anything else. We weren’t close anymore. Probably will never be again.

“Are you talking to Ashton?” Aaron asked me.

I shook my head, snapping my attention to Aaron.

“What?” I asked him.

“Ashton” Aaron said. “Are you talking to him?”

“Do you want Billie to hate me more?” I asked him. “Of course, not”

“You’re not?” Aaron asked, somewhat surprised.

“Billie and I made a deal” I told him. “As long as I don’t date her brother, she doesn’t leave. I can’t have her suddenly leave when we just started”

“But you like him“ Aaron said to me. “Enough to piss off Billie, which is a lot-“

“Your point?” I asked Aaron.

“You’re gonna wait until the end of October to be with him?” Aaron asked me.

“I know Aaron but what other choice do I have?” I asked him. “I can’t just have “a secret relationship” with him, let alone with it being long distance. It’s not the right timing”

“But timing shouldn’t matter” Aaron said.

I looked to him, not getting where he was coming from.

Aaron looked to the ground while we walked.

“I was worried too about having a relationship on tour” Aaron said. “The last thing I wanted was to be missing someone but then. . . Emily happened”

“I know. You fell in love” I said. “But Emily wasn’t your friend’s sister”

“She wasn’t but that’s not the point” Aaron said.

Aaron let out a sigh.

“What if you don’t get the chance to be with Ashton in three months?” Aaron asked me. “What something changes and you only have now?”

I crossed my arms at him. It was a possibility. The worst possibility.

“All I’m saying is I rather would have the pain of missing someone that is already mine than  the pain of missing someone you can’t have” Aaron said. “I’m trying to say-“

“I got it, Aaron” I told him. “But it’s not the right time. It doesn’t feel like it is either”

Aaron didn’t say anything to me. He just nodded.

“But thanks” I told him.

“Just watching out for you” Aaron said.

I walked a step faster than Aaron, walking into the arena. The crew was still setting up the chairs in the audience. I looked to Aaron.

“So, Emily. . . Any wedding planning happening yet?” I asked Aaron. “Or is it too soon and Emily’s waiting for you to get back?”

Aaron crossed his arms at me.

“A little bit of both” Aaron said. “We’re taking care of the little details”

“Flowers?” I asked him. “The color scheme? Inside or an outside wedding?”

“I’m not telling” Aaron said. “But nothing’s final yet”

“Mhmm” I said, smirking. “Is that what Emily said?”

“For the record, I picked an outside wedding” Aaron said.

“Right, right” I said, jokingly.

Aaron looked behind me for a quick second, smiling. He looked back to me.

“Isn’t Harry supposed to come today?” Aaron asked me.

“And yesterday” I said. “I told him he could come if he wants. Wouldn’t blame him if he didn’t. You know him”

“Actually, I don’t know him” Aaron said. “Why wouldn’t he come?”

Aaron looked behind me again, smiling.

“What are you smiling at?” I asked him.

I turned around. Harry, who was closely standing behind me, looked like he was eavesdropping on us.

“You need to quit doing that” I told him.

“What do you mean?” Harry asked. “I’m just closely standing next to you”

I raised my eyebrows at him.

“I missed you” Harry said, putting his arms out for a hug.

“I missed you too” I told him. “And your annoying hugs”

Harry wrapped his arms around me, embracing me for a moment before pulling away.

“So, what did I miss since I’ve been gone?” Harry asked us.

“We were just hiding from Billie” I said.

“We?” Harry asked, looking to Aaron. “What did you do to her when I was gone?”

“Being an accomplice” Aaron said.

“He’s my getaway car” I told Harry.

“Well, I’ll leave you two to catch up” Aaron said to us. “I’ll be with Chris”

“Thanks again” I told him. “For the advice. I’ll take it to heart”

Aaron nodded before walking away. I looked to Harry.

“Advice?” Harry asked me. “What advice?”

“Criminal stuff” I told him.

“Well,” Harry said. “About that . . .”

“So, they are digitally adding a fish” Harry told me.

“A fish?” I tried to say through my teeth as Camila applied black lipstick to my lips.

For the record, he was telling me about his music video for Adore You.

“Yeah” Harry said. “I had to carry this big tank of water too-”

Camila shut the lipstick, moving away from me. We heard a knock on the door.

“Come in!” Camila said.

The door opened, revealing Robin with a rolled paper in his hand.

“Hey Robin!” I said to him.

“I told you about Robin, right?” I asked Harry.

“In charge of cameras for your documentary” Harry said. “Yes, you did tell me”

“What’s up?” I asked Robin.

“We have a change in where the cameras are placed for tonight” Robin said, unrolling the paper in his hand to me.

It was the layout of the arena’s stage design. There was eight x’s on the sheet. Four x’s for each corner of the stage - the main and the b stage.

“We added two extra cameras to the back of the stage, so we can have a view of the crowd” Chris said. “We think it would be cool to have footage of the crowd during a specific song. Do you have any favorites?”

“Set fire to the rain is always fun” I said. “But there’s also whatever you like and close to me”

“So, those three?” Robin asked.

I paused for a second and looked to Harry.

“Got any favorites?” I asked him.

“Hmm” Harry said, thinking. “Is there somewhere is good. I like it when you walk through the crowd”

“And is there somewhere” I said, looking to Robin.

Robin nodded.

“I’ll come and tell you if there are other changes” Robin said.

I nodded. Robin left the room.

“He seems like a nice guy” Harry said of him.

“He is” I told Harry.

I kicked my feet up on the vanity’s table. I crossed my legs and arms. The second I did, Lucy entered the room. Her eyes lit up when she saw me.

“The rest are all ready” She said. “Do you want to do it now or-“

“Now” I said, taking my feet off the vanity.

“I’ll be waiting” Lucy said, leaving the room.

“Just when I get a break” I told Harry as I stood up. “Wanna come for photos?”

“Hmm, I kind of like sitting down and doing nothing” Harry said, poking fun at me.

I stared at him, blinking and not amused. I turned away from him.

“Do whatever you like” I said to him, walking away.

“Alright, alright” Harry said. “I’m coming”

Later. 11 pm. 

*HARRY’S POV*

“It’s your birthday?” Y/N asked. “How old are you?”

Y/N leaned closer to the crowd, trying to hear the fan.

“Oh, 21!” Y/N said. “I remember when I was 21. Had some good and bad times when I was that old. I’m not gonna talk about it. You all know it anyways”

Some fans in the crowd shouted at Y/N to continue to talk.

“No, no, no” Y/N said. “It’s her birthday, not mine. We’re not going down this”

I looked up at Y/N on the stage. I was standing to the side of the stage with Camila and Rosé. Well, we were right next to the corner of the stage, next to the tunnel to backstage.

“What’s your name, honey?” Y/N asked the fan. “Christina?”

Y/N looked at the fan, squinting.

“Christie?” Y/N asked. “Crystal?”

“Christina!” Some fans yelled to Y/N.

“Christina!” Y/N said. “I got it right on the first time”

Y/N stepped back before continuing to speak.

“Okay, we’re all gonna sing happy birthday for Christina” Y/N said, looking to Andy. “Andy, can you play the melody?”

Andy began to play the happy birthday song on her piano. Y/N joined her, singing.

“Happy birthday to you” Y/N sang, looking at Christina. “Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to Christina”

The crowd joined in, singing the rest of the song to Christina. Y/N clapped once the song was over.

“Happy birthday, Christina. Don’t get too drunk tonight.” Y/N told her. “And don’t do anything I wouldn’t do”

Y/N walked back to her microphone stand. She her mic into the stand.

“Anyways, I have three songs left.” Y/N said.

Y/N looked at one of the fans in the front row.

“I know it’s sad” She said to the fan. “I’m sad too. But this next one is actually a cover of another song”

Fans in the crowd cheered, knowing where this was going.

“The first time I sang it was eight years ago and ever since, I still sing it” Y/N spoke. “If you know the words, please sing along. This is whatever you like”

The song began to play, with Chris playing the opening chords.

“Stacks on deck, patron on ice, we can pop bottles all night” Y/N sang into the mic. “Baby, you could have whatever you like”

“Yeah, you could have whatever you like” Y/N continued to sing. “Yeah”

Late night sex, so wet and so tight” Y/N sang, closing her eyes for a moment. “Gas up the jet for you tonight. Baby, you could go wherever you like. Yeah, you could go wherever you like“

“Anytime you want to, pick up the telephone” Y/N sang, taking the microphone off the stand. “You know it ain't nothing to drop a couple stacks on you”

“Want it, you could get it, my dear” Y/N said, walking over to the right side of the stage. “Five million dollar home, drop Bentleys, I swear”

“I want your body, need your body” Y/N sang, slowly running her hand down the side of her body. “Long as you got me, you won't need nobody”

Most of the crowd cheered at her while others were speechless. I crossed my arms, intrigued.

“You want it, I got it, go get it, I'll buy it” Y/N sang in a low voice, walking towards the edge of the stage. “Tell them other broke brothers be quiet”

“Whatever you like” Andy and Billie sang as backup.

“Yeah, you could have whatever you like” Y/N sang, stepping back from the edge of the stage.

“Whatever you like” Andy and Billie sang again.

I felt someone tap on my shoulder. I looked to Camila.

“Rosé and I are going backstage” Camila said. ���You coming?”

I shook my head at them.

“I’ll come when she ends” I said.

Rosé nodded. Camila and her turned away from me and walked away. I looked back to Y/N.

“Shawty, you the hottest, love the way you drop it” Y/N sang, walking over to the other side of the stage. “Brain so good, could have swear you went to college”

“Hundred K deposits, vacations in the tropics” Y/N sang, shrugging her shoulders. “Everybody know it ain't tricking if you got it”

Y/N looked to the side of the stage for a second before looking back at the crowd.

“You ain't never ever gotta go in your wallet, long as I got rubber band banks in my pocket” Y/N sang, walking towards the edge of the stage again. “Five, six rides with rims and a body kit, you ain't gotta downgrade, you can get what I get”

Y/N looked to the side of the stage again -my side of the stage.

“My chick could have what she want, go in any store for any bag she want” Y/N sang, taking slow steps towards the corner of the stage. “I know she ain't never had a man like that, to buy you anything your heart desire like that”

“I want your body. Need your body” Y/N said, slowly kneeling down to sit on the stage. “Long as you got me, you won't need nobody”

“You want it, I got it, go get it, I'll buy it” Y/N sang, leaning towards the crowd. “Tell them other broke brothers be quiet. Your turn!”

Y/N turned her microphone out towards the crowd, letting them sing.

“Stacks on deck, patron on ice. We can pop bottles all night” The crowd sang. “Baby, you can have whatever you like”

Y/N brought the microphone back to her.

“LOUDER!” Y/N said, before turning the microphone back to the crowd.

“Late night sex so wet so tight, gas up the jet for you tonight” The crowd sang. “Baby, you can go wherever you like! You can go wherever you like”

“I'm talkin' big boy rides in big boy ice” Y/N sang, standing up from the floor. “Let me put this big boy in your life, wherever you like”

Y/N took a few steps back, blowing kisses to the crowd. Y/N looked to my corner, winking.

I turned around, walking towards the tunnel. I looked at the fans at the barricade once more before leaving. Their eyes were glued on Y/N. They looked as if they were in a daze. The same daze my fans had when they looked at me. I didn’t blame Y/N’s fans. I was in a daze with her too sometimes - sometimes.

Let me just start this blog post by saying that sometimes the stars align, you meet someone that brings you joy, they enrich your lives and will forever hold  a special place in your heart. While there is no doubt that Theresa and Nate have this but here, I am talking about my relationship with this couple. Theresa is truly one of the sweetest, most hard working individuals that I have ever met and she can no longer be called a client, I knew this, I felt this about 5 minutes into meeting her…she is my friend and I treasure her.

Our day started at Theresa’s sisters home with pre-ceremony coverage, where I truly believe that I witnessed a family dynamic that is unparalleled on so many levels. The entire family gets along so well and it made everything run so smoothly that we were able to leave and arrive at the Timberhouse to continue the getting ready photos. Once we completed the pre-ceremony coverage with Theresa complete with photos of her very soon to be in laws, we proceeded to another area to get photos of Nate and his family and groomsmen.

I have met Nate a few times but the stunning woman that is his mother has got to be the reason to which I had the honor of photographing Theresa and Nate’s wedding. Nate’s mother, Susan AKA Sue is so sweet and a long time friend of ours. She is an amazing chocolatier and the owner, operator of Noland Chocolates. Seriously, if you have not tried her chocolates, they are a must! They are so delicious and creamy and the take away box that Theresa and Nate packed up for me at the end of the night seriously saved my sanity of the weeks following their wedding haha. October is always a crazy month for me with several, always popular October weddings and my amazing daughter Addison’s birthday is on Halloween, which since she was born has become a month long celebration with Pumpkin Festivals and Fall farm visits all month long.  But truly Sue Noland’s chocolates are amazing and I insist you try them I promise you won’t be disappointed!

FAVORITE MOMENT OF THE DAY: Pre-ceremony…who knew that it could or would happen so soon! Theresa and Nate’s only photo request was that we capture their prayer prior to the ceremony. You will see tons of wedding samples on Pinterest that have a photo of the bride and groom on either side of the door, to preserve that precious first moment of seeing each other as being that moment that she walks down the aisle but this, this was different. These two are starting their lives together is the best way, they are putting God first! A marriage requires three people for it to be whole, to be successful, for it to be long lasting and true. Those three people are a bride, a groom and God.  These two…they just get it!

We had gorgeous 82 degree weather and the Timberhouse steps set the stage for this amazing couple to get married. The ceremony had all the perfect elements to unite these two, there was family, friends, laughter, tears, pure joy and excitement!

Following the ceremony we use those same steps for family photographs, I LOVE how you can see the reflection of the gorgeous fall trees in the reflection above that window, immediately followed, by bridal party and bride and groom portraits. This Rolling Acres Golf Course and Timberhouse have so many options for photography that we just simply walked across the street to capture all those special moments.

After heading in to the reception, they made quick work of the first dance, toasts and blessing. Now in talking with the couple they expressed extreme interest in sunset photos, based on our timeline that sun was going to set right in the middle of dinner, while I wouldn’t normally interrupt a couples dinner for photos,  let’s be honest, we need that break for food as well, but Theresa said to come get her and we will go.  So we hit up the buffet line after immediate family, scarfed our food and got back to work. Boy o Boy am I glad we did! The sunset portraits are definitely my favorites, the sky was fairly clear and the colors are spectacular. I also LOVE getting that photo on the front steps of the Timberhouse with the warm ambient light indoors contrasting with the cool twilight sky outdoors.  I feel these moments are essential to a successful wedding; it gives the couple a moment to calm down, regroup and realize just how quickly this day is flying by and to really savor the moment of THEIR day!

Following dinner we started the dancing off with parents dances. Theresa and her father, followed by Nate and Sue and in quick succession was Theresa and her step father, bridal party and open dance floor. Open dance floor, there wasn’t an open space on that dance floor that wasn’t being occupied but a guest dancing the night away! Everyone was having so much fun and it was a blessing for us to capture all the love in that room. Speaking of love and it may just be my second favorite moment of the day, let’s talk about Nate’s dad Pat and his mad dancing skills, now I don’t want to call myself judgmental but maybe I just happen to lump all men into a category of non-dancers and bad dancers LOL.  I see a lot of my dad’s “type” in Pat, strong, hardworking, amazing providers and fantastic fathers…but my Dad will slow dance with my mom but that is 100% absolutely it, my Dad would never even consider “fast” dancing on the dance floor! I truthfully don’t know why I do this judgment, my husband is a dancer, he’s quite good also, he has good rhythm and doesn’t look goofy at all. I just never in a million years expected that from Pat, to the point where my husband was jealous and taking notes haha. Kidding of course, but it was one of those moments where I thought to myself, everyone should have video at their weddings because this is fantastic! Theresa, please tell me someone, anyone captured this!

We left shortly after the garter and bouquet but not before hugging and congratulating my dear friends Theresa and Nate. That’s when Theresa asked if WE could get a picture together, I don’t get very often but once in a while and let me just say, its super sweet and I treasure it each time it does happen, it really shows me that I have made some sort of impact on this bride, I am appreciated and an important part of their day. While I HATE having my photo taken just as much as nearly every groom I encounter, which is why I am behind it haha.

I will forever treasure Theresa and Nate, as clients whom I was honored to photograph on their wedding day, but more importantly I am blessed to call them friends. We made a promise on her wedding day that just because the wedding day was “over” that we would remain friends and stay in touch, I intend to keep that promise because I made a vow many years ago to surround myself with kindness, with people who have good values and integrity, people who love the Lord and recognize their blessings as much as I do and those who just simply make me feel good.
