Planning a big fat Indian wedding is stressful but imaging planning one when the couple does not live in India! All of the details of this gorgeous ceremony were arranged on WhatsApp! Check out this marvelous wedding planned by Designer Events Inc.
Full names of bride and groom
Davaish and Katherine Jain
We met…
We met at a friends party and got talking. He was dressed as a Scooby-Doo and I was Alice in Wonderland. I took his number because I didn’t want to give mine! The next day I texted him and the rest is history as we know it. We met again and spent an entire night talking. It was like finding an old friend/lover from another time. We both knew this was it. It was a soul to soul connection. To this day, six years later, 20+ countries, a dog, a cat, and a home – we both are still madly in love. It’s a dream love story to experience first hand. The years together, the countless miles travelled, the laughter, the triumphs, the love, it only gets sweeter with each passing day. We are both believers of destiny. Our official anniversary is 26th October 2012, and 26th October is also Kaveri Vij’s (owner of Designer Events Inc.) birthday. Designer Events Inc had recently done an event at the Haveli and this seemed to be like a play of cards of Destiny to bring us together. On connecting these dots, I wanted no one except Designer Events for this wedding. And now when we look back it was the most memorable day of our lives. It was our Serendipity wedding!
Our wedding theme…
We wanted a non-traditional, smaller ceremony which had a lot of rituals in it. A large banquet hall didn’t appeal to us and we wanted the venue to have a story just like ours. We also wanted flowers to speak our story at every corner of the venue.  Our goal was to plan the entire day in such a way that the guests would not be bored at any point and would always be involved in something or the other.
My dress and his suit
We didn’t have time to physically pick out our outfits, and given that we would land in India just one week before our event, we weren’t sure how to pick out our outfits. Luckily our wonderful brothers Sonu and Rinku went on our behalf and showed us options for our ceremony via WhatsApp while we were in South Africa.
 Our ceremony…
We video chatted with Kaveri, who was our guide and savior through the whole process. We gave her an outline of how we envisioned the ceremony, including pre-ceremony snacks/drinks, the Baraat, ceremony, and reception.  It started very much as a loose collection of ideas and desires. Not having visited the space, it was difficult to envision the optimal way to set everything up. Thanks to Kaveri’s knowledge of the space as well as the willingness to go back and evaluate the space on her own, we were able to create a timetable and setup that worked out perfectly!
When you think planning an international wedding in three months while traveling full-time, what might come to mind is: how did you do it? It was all thanks to a remarkable team of people, and the most hardworking, dedicated and flexible wedding planner imaginable! Kaveri went above and beyond for us: being available at odd times, making suggestions, giving us options, finding us a caterer when we could not taste test, finding and booking all of our entertainment, taking our ideas (that we had no clue how to translate into reality) and materializing them. There were many challenges while planning the wedding over WhatsApp, but luckily we had Kaveri and the Designer Events team working diligently to make our dreams come true. After giving them our initial vision, Katya shared pictures from her Instagram and we emailed photos to show various components we wanted through our event, including pots flowing with flowers, hanging strings of flowers throughout the house and on the trees, a mandap covered in flowers, and photos of us during our travels. After getting an initial design and setup with Kaveri and team, Kaveri actually visited the Haveli for us and ensured that all of our plans would work out as planned. She made everything come together, from finding a place to set up the dining area, to the location for the mandap and stage. Speaking of stages – we knew from the start that we wanted live performers for the event. We didn’t have time to see or meet the performers in person. Luckily, Kaveri was able to send us dozens of options – from singers to dancers!  We narrowed down our options from there.
One of the biggest uncertainties we had was picking a caterer without actually tasting the food. We had our thoughts for how the dishes should look but had no time to taste the food nor see the actual setup. We put full faith in Kaveri’s recommendation for a caterer she knew and trusted. He and his team came through with flying colors – the food was some of the best Indian food we’ve ever had, the service was top-notch, and everyone left full and happy. In addition, the setup was perfect.
Our photographer
Mahima Bhatia. She is fantastic!
We chose our wedding coordinator because
We couldn’t have done this without Kaveri and the Designer Events, Inc- the team truly transformed a hundred-year-old heritage space into our dream venue while dealing with a ton of unique challenges. The only thing I can say is that dreams are just that – grand ideas and hopes – but Kaveri and her team made our dreams a reality. In three months, she booked and planned everything for us. Without her loving energy and dedication, and the amazing Designer Events Inc. team, our dream of a floral-filled intimate wedding ceremony in a unique heritage house would have remained simply that – a dream. There is no better or hardworking group of humans to recommend for any event. Every piece of advice offered, the effort made, and second spent executing this dream ceremony was more than anyone could ever hope for. I found my dreams could be a reality and shared one of the biggest days of my life with a newfound lifelong friend in the process. Dreams and Kaveri are unanimous.
Kaveri and the Designer Events, Inc team truly transformed a hundred-year-old heritage space into our dream venue while dealing with a ton of unique challenges. She helped organize massive and numerous florals, fixed my Sabyasachi top, which I ordered without seeing, the day before the wedding, fed me food throughout the day, helped me get my shoes on, took on last-minute additions without question or hesitation, and constantly reminded us it would all work out, even when it seemed impossible at times. The only thing I can say is that dreams are just that – grand ideas and hopes – but Kaveri and her team made our dreams a reality. In three months, she booked and planned everything for us.
Did I mention, on top of everything else, it was done over Diwali weekend? Kaveri stayed up until twilight hours to chat with us after we got back from a safari in Africa, in a completely different time zone. She was patient and understanding with all of our desires and hopes, and there truly was no obstacle she wasn’t willing to tackle for us.
We chose our venue because…
We wanted a non-traditional, smaller ceremony which had a lot of rituals. A large banquet hall didn’t appeal to us – we didn’t care to have hundreds of people in a generic hotel! We wanted the property to have a story of its own. We wanted flowers to fill up every nook of the location. We also wanted it to be an event compared to a ceremony, full of good food, entertainment, and things to look forward to.
The venue we chose was full of tradition, being a 100+-year-old manor just south of Delhi. It was beautiful on its own, and we knew with some additional touches it would fit our vision perfectly. Coincidentally enough,  Designer Events had just had an event there weeks before we had reached out to them to plan the event, and their owner Kaveri’s birthday was on October 26th – the same day we met. Serendipity all around!
Our menu…
The most critical part of any wedding, it was very difficult to lock this one. We wanted Jain food and a good variety of the same. We had a specially curated menu for this day – with all our favourite dishes as a part of the menu. We put a twist to Indian food – like east meets west. All the food was prepared with no onion and no garlic. There were dishes like mushrooms and paneer which guests couldn’t believe were prepared without onion and garlic!
My favourite part of the wedding day…
There were so many beautiful details in the wedding; from our first look, the massive in size and quantity floral displays, live music, bhangra dancers, fire performers, the photographer,  the extremely attentive staff, to releasing lanterns at the end of the night; everything went flawlessly. Choosing the moment that stands out the most is easy to choose: our intimate vows to each other, and my surprise vows to Mama and Papa Jain. We had set apart time for an intimate reading of vows to each other with simply us, the parents, our sisters and my now second family – the wedding team.
Davaish and I both had tears of joy and even giggled through our vows to one another. Harder still and just as important, were my vows to mom and dad. I almost couldn’t speak reading my vows to my new parents, through all the tears of my love and admiration for them. The emotions felt in those quiet loving and personal moments together will forever illuminate my life. Sharing tears of love with all of my family reinforced how blessed I am to have found all of them, and how blessed my life as a Jain daughter has and will continue to be.
Congratulations to the beautiful couple! We wish them a happy married life ahead! Submit your wedding photos to us for a chance to be featured on our blog and social media-email the details at [email protected]

Top Things to do in Udaipur The Venice of India
Udaipur is the glimmering star on Rajasthan’s map. Its many lakes and its environs soaked in Mewar history are attractions that people from all over the world come to visit. There are many places to visit in Udaipur and many around it. There is a reason the city is known as the Venice of the East. There are many big and grand lakes as well as several smaller ones in the city.Close to the Lake City are other attractive lakes, most notably Jaisamand Lake. The Ahar River also flows through Udaipur. Located in the desert of Rajasthan, Udaipur is a beautiful paradox. The many palaces around the city add to the glamour. There is no worthier reflection for a glassy lake than a marble palace after all. The best time to visit Udaipur is undoubtedly during the winter months. The summer heat is too high for you to subject yourself to voluntarily. The winter months are perfect to visit Udaipur. Udaipur is easily approachable from all the important cities of India including Delhi, Mumbai, and Jaipur.
Tumblr media
The Lake Palace:- The Lake Palace in Udaipur is located on the Jag Niwas Island on a sprawling 1.5 hectare land. This magnificent structure was built on the Lake Pichola by Maharana Jagat Singh in 1734. Once a summer palace for the royalty of Udaipur, it has now been converted into a heritage hotel. Still retaining the grandeur, it resembles a fairy tale kingdom. Enhancing the magical aura are the rippling waves and beautiful sunset. The intricate craftsmanship and aesthetic handicrafts and textiles add to the beauty this place. The elegant white marble palace is a fantasy as it arises softly from the blue waters. 4 acres of rock have been used to lay the foundation of this palace and was known as Jag Niwas after its founder. The palace highlights include fountains, gardens, pillared terraces, painted mirrors, pink stone work, lotus leaves and cusped arches. Dhola Mahal, Bada Mahal, Phool Mahal, Ajjan Niwas and Kush Mahal are some of the apartments in here. There are various facilities available in the palace for the guests like swimming pool, bar, restaurants, café and conference hall. There is also a 24 hour business center and 8 meeting rooms with fully updated equipment for corporate meetings and conferences. In here are 12 banquet halls for cocktail parties, wedding and other related functions.
Tumblr media
Lake Pichola:-This is one of the most important places to visit in Udaipur. Lake Pichola is the reason we call Udaipur the ‘City of Lakes’. Built in 1362, and extending 3 miles in length and 2 miles in breadth, this lake is an essential part of Udaipur and far by its best feature. Astonished and amazed by the beauty of Lake Pichola, Rudyard Kipling once wrote: “If the Venetian owned the Pichola Lake, he might say with justice, `see it and die'”. Take Kipling at his word and visit Lake Pichola when in Udaipur, both in the day and at night. the lake takes on a whole new character depending on the time of the day. In the morning, lake and palaces are quiet. The lake is speckled with tourist boats and people clicking selfies line the shores. As night creeps in, all the Palaces around the lake light up and illuminate the lake. No boats, no birds, nothing to see except the lit-up palaces as they stand impressively around the lake. It is an awe-imposing spectacle. The iconic sites around the lake include Udaipur City Palace, Mohan Mandir, Eklinggarh Fort, Jag Mandir, Pichola Palace etc. The Sitamata Game Sanctuary is located on its western shore.
Tumblr media
Bagore Ki Haveli:- Bangore ki haveli is a beautiful palace in Udaipur on the waterfront of Lake Picholi and is an amusing spot among the tourist places in Udaipur. It was built during the 18th century and still holds the pride and majestic attitude of the royal family of ancient rulers in a perfect manner. It consists of more than a hundred rooms along with the displays of costumes and modern art. It houses the famous paintings of the Mewar regime inside the Queen’s chamber. In addition, the palace is filled with pieces of art on glass. Wide corridors, windows and spacious rooms enhances the attractiveness of the palace to a higher level. The Rajput clans’ presence is still preserved inside the palace in the forms of jewellery boxes, hukkas, pan boxes and the furniture items used during that period. This is a perfect place to witness the proper Rajput architectural styles displayed very well.
Tumblr media
City palace:- The City Palace in Udaipur in the state of Rajasthan has a lot in its store to reveal the age-old history it possesses. The royal building is a huge complex with plenty of rooms and pillars inside. It took more than 300 years to complete the structure properly. Started during the time of Maharana Udai Singh II. The lake Pichola nearby is the highlight when you get ready for a tour of the greatest places to visit in Udaipur. Since it is the biggest building in Udaipur it is considered as one of the best sightseeing destinations.  The flamboyant structure with a blend of Mughal and Rajasthani architectural style dominates other famous palaces and buildings around the city very authentically. It is located on a hilltop where you can enjoy a real panoramic view of lake Pichola and the Lake Palace on the banks of this particular lake.
Tumblr media
Shilpgram Museum:- Shilpgram (meaning “craftsmen’s village”) is a rural arts and crafts complex, located three kilometers from Udaipur and set up by the government in 1986. It showcases rural life and traditions from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Goa. The complex has huts from each of the states, incorporating their distinctive architectural features. Artisans also sell their wares and perform folk dances. Horse rides and camel rides are offered as well. The complex really comes alive during the 10 day Shilpgram Arts & Crafts Fair in late December. Otherwise, although it’s a great concept, it tends to be sadly rather lackluster.
Tumblr media
Eklingji Temple:- The Eklingji Temple Complex is one of the architectural sights you need to put on your list of places to visit in Udaipur. It is a complex whose foundation dates back to 734 AD. The first temple of the complex was built back then by Bappa Rawal and dedicated to Eklingji. Eklingji is a form of Shiva and the complex is full of figurines of Shiva along with figurines of Parvati, Saraswati, Ganesh, Kartik and Nandi. Over the time, the complex has grown to house 108 temples, all of them are made out of marble and granite with complex designs cut into the stone. The sole temple of the Lakulish sect in India, known simply as the Lakulish Temple and built in 971 is also housed here. This complex is a not just a place for history enthusiasts and people who want to pay their respects in the temple. It is a place full of memories of a distant past; a time when modern technology could not aid in the construction of complicated buildings. The main temple, built in the 15th century, has a structure topped with elaborate domes that will boggle your mind. Appreciation for the marvellous stone work will be the overwhelming sentiment you experience when you walk around the 108 temples. You can understand the time at which the temples were built through the plaques outside the respective temple or you could hire a local guide to walk you around the complex.

Jagmandir:- Known as Lake Garden Palace, Jag Mandir has been built on the island of Lake Pichola. The construction of this structure has been credited to the three Maharanas of Mewar. This palace was started by the Maharana Amar Singh in the year of 1551 and was later carried on by Maharana Karan Singh and completed by Maharana Jagat Singh. Hence it is called Jagat Mandir or Jag Mandir. Serving as a summer resort and pleasure area for the royal family of Mewar, this place is also famous for holding parties and wedding functions. In here you will find Gul Mahal, Darikhana, Garden Courtyard, Bara Patharon ka Mahal, Zenana Mahal, and Kunwar Pada ka Mahal. Jag Mandir is the main palace and it includes the Gul Mahal. The towers at the corner are octagonal in shape and have cupolas on the top. Residential suites, reception halls and internal courts adorn the palace. The architecture of the building reflects Mughal and Rajput style. The Zenana Mahal is constructed adjoining to the main temple and the Kunwar Pada ka Mahal is located at the western end of the structure. The Gul Mahal was built by Maharana Amar Singh and it was developed by Maharana Jagat Singh for housing the Mughal prince Khurram. The palace has been built with sandstone, black marble, and has a crescent of Islam fixed on the dome of the structure.

Saheliyon Ki Bari:- Saheliyon ki Bari is a beautiful garden in the city of Udaipur and is one of the popular Udaipur tourist places. Fountains, marble art and the lush lawns attract the public each time. Saheliyon ki Bari in English means the ‘garden of maids’. This garden represents a green retreat of Maharana Sangram Singh in the desert lands and was built in the 18th Century for the royal ladies of Mewar. It is situated on the banks of the lake Fateh Sagar and is one of the stunning places to visit in Udaipur. According to the legend here, the garden was personally designed by the king and gifted to his queen. The queen had 48 maids accompanying her after the marriage and to offer them peace and happiness away from the regular life, this garden was built. There are four water pools, marble elephants, fountains and kiosks around the here. The bird fountains and the lotus pool are very popular. The stunning and romantic view of the garden makes it a special place for lovers. Rain fountains were added to the garden later by Maharana Bhopal Singh.

Speech: Foreign Secretary's speech at Raisina Dialogue, New Delhi
Good afternoon.
It’s a great honour to be speaking here at the second Raisina Dialogue and fantastic to be back in India.
I have come on several official trips now as well as various family weddings and we always try to remember to bring something for our Sikh relatives who live in both Delhi and Mumbai can you guess what it is; that’s right – we tend to bring a bottle of whisky, Black Label whisky to add to the astonishing 1.5 billion litres of whisky that are consumed every year in this country and why do we bring a bottle of scotch – to our relatives in Mumbai and Delhi - normally black label though I have just bought something called green label.
I hope it isn’t crème de menthe the reason my friends is that this wonderful country still sets a tariff of 150 per cent on whisky imports and I believe this matters.
Though I have no particular desire to attack Indian whisky tariffs. I think the time has come to stick up for free trade to make the case once again for the immense benefits of a globalised economy where we learn from each other and trade freely with each other and that case needs setting out here now and I believe I am perhaps the man to do it because I belong to a select group of people who are not always approved of by the global elites.
In the pages of good left liberal papers I am denounced as…wait for it…a populist because I was involved in a movement opposed to what I see as the undemocratic nature of the EU, and we were successful and so I am bracketed with various other leaders around the world who are said to be populist people who come to power on the tide of a sort of pitchfork wielding rebellion against the conceit of the ruling classes and so I want to stick up not for the populists, they can take care of themselves - we populists have pretty thick skins. I want to stick up for those who vote for them because they aren’t bad people.
They may feel worried about the security of the world, or about terrorism. They feel that they aren’t allowed to hold widespread opinions, and that they are being sneered and disapproved of. They look at this great glittering globalised economy and they see some people getting very rich indeed and they wonder why their own families aren’t keeping pace and they fear that they will be the first generation not be overtaken, in prosperity, by their own children, and so I say that these people should not be dismissed, or patronized, but nor should we draw the wrong conclusions, about the wave of populism.
The answer is not to put up barriers or weaken trading systems the answer is to give them jobs and a sense of respect and to show how trade can work for both sides how fair exchange benefits everyone is not zero sum.
The answer is for great nations such as India and Britain to tackle their concerns together not to go back to the world of the 1930s with strong men in power everywhere with autarkic and beggar thy neighbour policies of tariffs and other barriers to trade.
You may remember Lord Copper of the Beast, in Evelyn Waugh’s satirical novel scoop, published in 1936 who personally briefs a young reporter about his world view, and the coverage he wants to see. “The policy of the Beast is for strong, mutually antagonistic governments everywhere,” he says.
Well, that is not my policy, and it is not our policy. We believe still in military cooperating in the UK, and we believe in NATO as the cornerstone of our defence and we are one of the few countries in the alliance to meet the target of spending two per cent of our GDP and we have shown our commitment to our collective security in sending a battalion to Estonia as part of Nato’s enhanced forward presence.
We support the UN in holding to account the regimes of such men as Bashar al Asad and by the way we were the first P5 country to call for India to join the Security Council as well as the Nuclear Suppliers Group.
Like India we know the threats of terrorism - and I can tell you that some of my wife’s family were there that night in Mumbai in 2008 when the appalling attacks took place - and we are already working together to tackle those threats with ever greater intelligence sharing and we have some of the most formidable intelligence capabilities in the world; and we have no inhibitions in sharing our most advanced technology with India.
Take the Hawk jet trainer – a world beating aircraft, designed and made in Bangalore by Hindustan aeronautics, in alliance with BAe systems; and I know Mr Jaishankar said this morning, he thought Europe was in danger of shrinking from the world. I am here to tell you in the nick of time, this is not the UK’s ambition.
We have reach, we have just decided to restore our military presence east of Suez with a £3 bn commitment over ten years and a naval support facility in Bahrain We have a commitment to the whole world.
The Royal Air Force has just sent Typhoon fighters to Japan and South Korea on Exercise Eastern Venture, showing that Britain remains one of a handful of countries able to deploy air power 7,000 miles from our shores.
We have ambition. Our Strategic Defence and Security Review makes clear that the Royal Navy’s new aircraft carriers will be present in Asian waters.
The Five Power Defence Arrangement – which joins Britain with Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand – remains the only permanent and multilateral defence pact in Asia.
Twice a year, British forces exercise alongside our allies in South-East Asia.
And as our naval strength increases in the next ten years, including two new aircraft carriers, we will be able to make a bigger contribution. In the Indian Ocean, we have a joint UK-US facility on Diego Garcia – an asset that is vital for our operations in the region.
We’re also a member of the UN Command on the Korean Peninsula; while in Brunei we have a deployable garrison of British Gurkhas.
And like this country we have our principles, a similar approach to the world.
When it comes to the tensions in the South China Sea. We are in favour of the rules based order. Britain takes no position on the merits of the competing claims.
But we do take a view on how they are pursued.
We oppose the militarisation of the South China Sea and we urge all parties to respect freedom of navigation and settle their disputes peacefully in accordance with international law.
We regard last year’s ruling by the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague as binding on both China and the Philippines.
Indeed, may I respectfully say to our Indian friends that we believe in respecting all such judgments as binding.
We believe India can be a vital force for stability in this region, the keystone of a giant natural arch, created by the Indian ocean running from Perth in the east to Cape Town in the west.
This is the vast hinterland in which India rightly seeks to influence events and we support Prime Minister Modi in his ambition for India to rejoin the neighbouring geographies. Imagine how wonderful it would be if the nations of south Asia, Afghanistan, India and Pakistan, could break down the barriers of mistrust and make the most of their economic opportunities.
And that is why security matters. Because without trust between countries; without freedom of the sea lanes, 25% of world trade goes through the Straits of Malacca; without a rules based international order, we will find our world reverting to that uncertainty of the 1930s.
When trade declined and we know the consequences of this, and it is declining, as a share of GDP, for the first time since the 1990s, and that is partly why I am so excited by the opportunities presented to the UK today. Because as our Prime Minister Theresa May said yesterday, we believe we can strike a new and healthy relationship with the European Union, supportive of the EU.
And as I have said before, we can be outside the main body of the cathedral, but still be a flying buttress, based on free trade and intergovernmental cooperation but allowing us, for the first time in 44 years, to campaign for free trade not just because it is in Britain’s interest but because it has lifted billions out of poverty in the last 50 years and has been the single greatest engine of human progress and that is because free trade and economic interpenetration are of massive mutual benefit and it is a cliché but it is true that Britain and India achieve together what they might never manage to pull off individually.
It is an astonishing fact that India invests more in the UK than it invests in the rest of the EU put together. I need hardly tell you that the biggest manufacturing employer in Britain is an Indian company, which makes beautiful Jaguars in Castle Bromwich I in the West Midlands, and then sells them back to India.
You may have heard that curry restaurants in Britain manage to employ more people than the ship-building, coal mining and steel industries combined, which may explain the struggle that some Britons now have with their waistline.
But I don’t want you to think we are just sitting around crunching poppadoms. We Brits are here too. There are four JCB factories here in India. We have British scientists teaming up with Indian counterparts to fight superbugs.
One in 20 private sector jobs in India is in a UK-owned company, and our trade is growing by 3 per cent a year. But when you consider that this is a country where there are 800 m people under the age of 35 you can see the scale of the opportunity because the population of Ireland is less than 4 million and Britain somehow does more trade with Ireland than with the whole of India.
Prime Minister Modi has laid out an exciting plan for an $830bn infrastructure plan and it is time for British engineers and surveyors and planners and consultants and architects and lawyers and bankers, and I hope they are here today, to step up to the plate and o take part in this incredible development and break down these barriers.
And that is why the time is coming when we need to turbo charge this relationship with a new free trade deal. We can’t negotiate it now. But we can sketch it out in pencil.
And so let us go back to the whisky with which I began.
It is an extraordinary fact that no-one can deny, that even though Scotland is incontestably the home and progenitor of Scotch, the only place in the world where the water trickles through the peaty glen in exactly the right way; to turn into liquid fire even though whisky is itself a Gaelic word uisge beatha. Does anyone know what it means? H2o – water of life.
The total share of Scotch whisky – the authentic whisky – in the Indian market, the biggest single market in the world, is something like 4 per cent netting the UK only £80m a year in exports.
Now imagine if we could just double or treble that – by removing those pesky tariffs and giving the Indian consumer more money to spend on other things to a mere 8 per cent. Think of the boost to the morale of the Indian whisky drinker and the boost to Scottish industry.
And then think how wonderful systematically it would be if we could have zero tariffs on Indian products such as those electric cars or buses that we are now seeing on the streets of London.
This is not the time to put up walls and barriers.
This is the time to tear these barriers down.
We may be leaving the EU, and we may be taking back control of our borders. But my Indian friends, that does not mean we want to haul up the drawbridge or deter Indian talent from our country.
I am proud to say that the UK economy, the fastest growing major economy in Europe, is the most diverse on earth.
With the biggest tech sector in our hemisphere; with the biggest banking sector – indeed 40 per cent of all foreign exchange transactions take place in London. More dollars are bought and sold in London than in New York.
The most visited museums in the world, in fact there are more visitors to the British Museum than to some EU countries, which I won’t name, such is my diplomatic finesse.
We have the best universities in the world – Cambridge alone has produced more Nobel prize winners than every university in China and Russia added together and multiplied by two.
Of the kings, queens, presidents and prime ministers of the world, 1 in 7 was educated in Britain, and that is a ratio we want to keep, and we are improving on.
There are more Chinese students than any other city in the world (other than China, which clearly has a lot) and why do they come because we welcome talent.
And it is by being open, and by breaking down barriers that we will in the long term create the good jobs, and good incomes, that offer real hope and comfort to our electors.
And so let’s work together. Not to ignore or condemn the voices of populism, but to understand and address their concerns Britain and India are united by our values, and by our approach to the problems of the world.
And it is by working together to improve our security that we will allow the freedom and openness that will drive our prosperity.
