I found Chuck, freshman year at college.  We had a bunch of things in common… skating, skiing, surfing, mountain biking and most importantly the love of PUNK ROCK!!!  Thank GOD!!! Millersville was quite a cultural black hole, back in the late 80’s.  We ditched our roommates after Christmas Break and first thing ya know, Chuck and I are settling in to our cave of a dorm room.  That’s when he started getting tapes sent to him, from his High School best friend, who went to the University of Washington in Seattle.  It was a direct link into the Seattle music scene. Live & Direct... from his record collection, radio air tapes he recorded for us from local DJ radio shows, and even occasional freebie samplers direct from Seattle!!  What?.  By 1988/89 I wanted everything that came out of that arena… Sub Pop, Am-Rep, Estrus, C/Z, Glitterhouse, 1/ 4 Stick, Boner, Touch & Go, Alternative Tentacles, etc… what an era for original music.  Especially as eclectic music scenes where co-existing and erupting all around the country!

That was how I met Bill Tormas, after venturing into his seminal Lancaster, PA record store – Web of Sound.  He was very curious about how we knew so much about that scene, as he too was just discovering it and bringing in everything, he could for the store… it was a truly amazing experience, trust me.  There isn’t a scenester in that town that doesn’t owe a debt of gratitude to that man. He was the first.  He was the first one that went through that proverbial BRICK-WALL of Mennonite/Amish/PA Dutch conservative thick-headedness.  But damn was he cool and did he have an ear, head and taste for music and people!!  He could talk a douchey rich dude into being a juke box 45 collector to the must fuzzed out stoner dude$30 imports and everything in between.  He was sweet too – really cared about your experience with music and he was quite the gateway!!

Most of these singles where purchased around that era at his shop.  Some I just drooled at and had to hunt down once I got some cash in my pocket. So… KOOL SKOOL is sort of me recreating Bill’s distinctive “The Web” experience in honor of that great store, man and musical era!!  Sharing tunes, I enjoy and think you may have interest in, and then following the spider web out of the C/Z arena into its web of connections throughout the scenes across the country of that era.

VOLUME II starts us off with Amorphous Head, playing Lonely Lonely and Hullabaloo with, Kill your Parents. Next, we threw VOLUME Four on the deck and played one of the iconic tracks from this series – Alice Donut’s, Mrs Hayes… I can still remember the first time Bill played this song for me – SOLD. He brought them to the Chameleon shortly after this for a “Business Person’s Special” Friday Night early show, that just BLEW the doors off the place, making us all fans.  The 2nd song is of equal caliber – it’s Gwym by Vexed. Then it’s back to the OG platter – TE Vol II for the second side with Pitbull Babysitter’s – The Head Talks Cheese b/w Hold On, by My Name.  What a killer side this is too!!  Back to deck two and TE Vol Four for one of the unsung heroes of that scene and era – Icky Joey for Josephine b/w God’s Acre – Wood.  Seriously check out some of the other God’s Acre releases for some real strong recordings of the scene and it’s sound.

Moving on, we throw down Teriyaki Asthma Vol VI with one of Seattle’s most obnoxious punk/noise bands – The Thrown Ups with Walrus Head.  Def a must check out, is some of the Thrown Ups stuff on Am-Rep.  The second song is also one that Bill turned me onto when he first pointed out Olivelawn, back when they first hit the shelves.  Freaking A, are they awesome!!  Key to the band in my mind is the ensuing friendship and sheer brilliance of Eddie Glass, from Fu Manchu and in later in my world – Nebula. Several times they came to the area and played shows in York and Baltimore with my band PORTER.  I really loved my time spent with those dudes.  Nebula’s drummer, Ruben is definitely one of the top five drummers born out of that era – if not thee best and a real great dude!! Hope someday to get to Cali and share some tasty waves with him and my new friend Ben a pretty good surfer from Cali, I met via Puerto Rico and my nieces wedding back in February.  

So that’s when we started a run on Olivelawn 7” ‘s.  First went the 1990 ish release from insta-noise records with Side A featuring: Instant Punk Rock Song and b/w a killer tune – Mom’s Farm.  Mixed in on the other deck was the Nemesis 7” with The Cat’s Meow and another version of Mom’s Farm.

That slab was followed by another Olivelawn – Nemesis release – 4 is greater than 2 and the tunes Whale Finger & Signed DC.  The last disc in the Olivelawn tribute is the Sympathy for the Record Industry 1991 release of the tune – Beautiful Feeling on side A and Carvin is the Devil’s Paintbrush as the B-Side.  That Olivelawn jag end by taking us back to the TA Vol VI record for the Pain-Teens with Come Up and See Me Sometime, b/w with a great tune from Unrest entitled – Caitlin Bums(?)

So I’m not exactly sure where the Instagram Live shut down, so the rest of my original set included the Teriyaki Asthma Vol. VII with it’s A-Side of Poster Children’s, It’s True and Hammerbox’s, Promise to Never.  The B-Side has two killer voices of the “Indy Rock” scene that was starting to filter over into the punk & noise scene, Superchunk with the rocking tune, Sister and the lovely band – Tsunami.  Since the moment I first heard the first note and beat from this band. I was in love!! Just awesome!!! Their tune Punk Means Cuddle was to be the Segway into a Tsunami jag with their Simple Machines release with the tunes: Flameproof Suit, World Tour and Ski Trip on the A Side. The B Side has Kickball Babe w/Candyman.

Honeymoon: Cancelled Honeymoon due to Hurricane Irma. They were supposed to go to Guatemala, and fly out of Miami but all plans had to be adjusted. They plan to stay and visit with family and friends, go to the Pocono’s and New York City and take a honeymoon to their desired destination at a later date.

I received Monika and Gerry as a referral from Gerry’s cousin, Nicole, I photographed Nicole’s wedding in June. They were in need of a photographer and Gerry’s mom, Domenica is local and handling some of the wedding planning.  After a few conversations with Domenica, I began calling and emailing with Monika. Can I just say… I adore this woman! She is everything that a professional photographer can hope for in a bride, she is cool, calm and collected…she also happens to be hilarious and I knew just from the photographs that she had asked for and her demeanor that this wedding was going to be a blast, not only a fun day for the bride and groom but one of the many fun days that this awesome couple would spend together.

As with all my couples, I know it may initially feel like an invasion of privacy or a nosey photographer but I do truly need to know all details and I need to know about family circumstances so that I can effectively photograph your wedding day and capture all those special moments without any awkward moments coming from me. Monika made it very clear from day one of speaking to her that she had a daughter, Mackenzie who is 4 years old, while she is not Gerry’s daughter biologically, she is in every way his and Gerry is 100% committed to not only this woman, Monika, their marriage, their life together but also to this precious little girl. I have more to talk about with this, but we will move on for the moment.

After a couple months of Monika and I striking up a constant email correspondence, it was time for the big day!

We drove 90 minutes to The Grand Estate at Hidden Acres and upon arriving at the house, to say I was excited was an understatement. I was excited to meet Monika, excited for this gorgeous September day, (the weather was a perfect 67 degrees, big blue sky with white puffy clouds) and very excited to explore this venue I had heard and read so much about. The Grand Estate is the stunning Bed and Breakfast owned and operated by Thomas and Melanie Waddell.  When Monika initially booked her wedding with us and told me about this gem, I had not heard of it as most of my weddings are in the Beaver, Butler and Allegheny Counties. (Trust me, we will travel anywhere, we LOVE to travel and have had two weddings in South Carolina ). I took to Google and did my research as I always do and read the history of this property and it was beautiful, awe inspiring and I could not wait to get there and check it out for myself. This property was originally a 3,000 square foot modest home owned by John and Margaret Ann Liperote that was later renovated and expanded to the 10,000 square foot mansion that it is today. When John and then Margaret Ann passed away, the family sold the home to Thomas and Melanie so that this lovely home could be enjoyed by all who come and stay at the Bed and Breakfast. We toured the grounds, checked out all the wonderful picturesque locations and found the outdoor tent where the reception was to be held. We were then on a mission to find and meet this bride for the very first time, when we entered the bridal suite we were greeted by a sweet 4 year old little lady who would be my inspiration for the day, Mackenzie is adorable, she has a sweet, outgoing personality that is as big as the room that she is in, beautiful blonde hair and her mama’s face. LOL.

We headed to the church for the ceremony and I was very much looking forward to the portion of the ceremony that would become my first of two of my favorite moments of the day. I will fully admit I am a cheesy, emotional person I don’t deny this…I am the mom who loves to get matchy matchy outfits with her daughter and will intentionally dress her son in a matching shirt to his Daddy, I love weddings and all that they represent and I don’t always but don’t be surprised if you witness me wiping a tear away. The moment had arrived, the family vows, the vows that Gerry would recite to Mackenzie. Not even kidding, I may have ugly cried for a brief second. 

A few lines that he recited were…

“I know I wasn’t there when you were born or when you took your first steps. But I promise to be there for every day and every milestone, your first day of school, your wedding day to walk you down the aisle*insert ugly cry from the photographer*…

As the daughter to the most amazing father to ever grace the planet, my Dad was not there for my birth,  he was not there for my first steps, but he was there for all the milestones thereafter and he still is and will remain to be. I envision a life filled with love, laughter and happily ever after (there’s the cheesy line you were waiting for) for not only Gerry and Monika but also Mackenzie.

If I were to give out awards for specific moments throughout the wedding season, which might I add is no longer a season for me, as I shoot weddings all year, this wedding hands down would get “BEST GROOM SEEING HIS BRIDE REACTION”,  seriously I couldn’t have posed, dreamed or hoped for a better reaction.  

My second favorite moment occurred at the reception, where this couple literally knocked it out of the park with their first dance!

Need I say more??? I mean seriously, it had romance, fun, sweet moments, hilarious moments and while we have all seen the You Tube videos of couples who try this, this couple succeeded in a way I have never seen before. Trying not to block the view of any of the guests, I spend a good portion of the dance kneeling down near the grandparents and Aunts and Uncles of the groom, I truthfully do not know how old they are but their giggles, clapping and cheering made them sound as young, fun and playful as this gorgeous couple.  Every song was relatable to a group of people in attendance and this dance was perfectly perfect for them and their personalities!

We ended the evening by heading down to the stone bridge and fountain that is on the property for a gorgeous photo session and a breath of fresh air in the chaos of the evening. I cannot recommend this to my couples more, as long as weather and timing works out, I always take my couples out either around sunset or at twilight so that we can do a short 5 minute photo session with just the two of you. Not only it is a great ending to your wedding album design but it also gives you just a few brief moments to take it all in, breathe and collect yourselves. When we got married , we intentionally scheduled that time since it was something that I had been doing with my clients for years. But it was just something that my mentor had recommended years ago, I never fully understood it until that day, August 5, 2006. I had been shooting weddings for 7 years at that point and I had lots of ideas and plans and “I knew it all”…but had never been on the brides side before, truly when people say it goes so fast…it  does. You start with your hair and makeup in the morning and don’t stop until the wee hours of the evening, morning whatever the case may be. This 5 minute session stops you, gives you focus and allows you to really soak it up and enjoy the rest of the best day of your life.

I wish nothing but the best for Monika and Gerry but truly as an adult child with similar parental circumstances, I know that Monika realizes how blessed not only she is but little Mackenzie. I wish Gerry all the wisdom, courage and support that I can muster.  Because it takes a special person to be a parent, it takes an extraordinary human being to make the choice to love another’s child as their own, just as my Dad, loves me.

I am Eric at All Party Starz Entertainment. I have been doing weddings for over 35 years and for many years I did many many Bridal Shows.  These shows always frustrated me as our approach is very consultative and it is very hard to to do that at a Bridal Show.  If you are a new bride or groom or family or friend of one, we want to give you some info to help you and also offer you our special we would be offering at these Bridal Shows. Our specials will correspond to the local shows on our area and will run until 7 days after the last local show.

Wedding Wonderland Bridal Show is on Jan 13th in York PA.  Our annual Bridal Show Specials will start on Dec. 26th and run through the end of the local shows.

Bridal Showcase at Best Wedding Showcase is running 4 shows in 2019 Form Jan 6th until Feb 10th, so we will run our specials until Feb 17th, 2019

Doing all 5 of these shows run the vendors about $1000 per show with about another $2000 in booth costs for a total of about $7,000 on the low end. We always do free consultations with all couples and pass the savings on to you by offering more discounts than almost any other company.

We offer a Testimonial Discount to all couples in exchange for a 60-90 second interviews towards the end or just after your wedding. We prefer to allow other customers to see the actual words of our customers right there the day of the event.

ADDITIONALLY, We offer all public servants including healthcare, teachers, police, fire and military discounts.. You spend your life serving others, the least we can do is give you a small discount.

The Bridal Show Specials our in addition to and NOT instead of other discounts.  So, if willing to do a testimonial (good or bad, we do not tell you what to say) video, and in the military and doing just  a standard wedding package, you would get $300 in discounts.
