𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴   Electro-Technical Officer, Vipin Kumar Soni on the ultra-large boxship “CAP SAN ARTEMISSIO” was one of the runners-up in the digitalisation section of our 2022 essay competition, immediately predicting supply and demand combining to accelerate the impact of new technology. Customers’ expectations will increase commensurately with the need for, and progressively wider availability of, more advanced means of transportation that will radically alter how cargoes are handled, vessels move and ports and terminals operate.    After a summary of the rationale of digitalisation that is firmly rooted in logistics, data, security and communication, the article discusses three core but still developing applications - smart ships, autonomous vessels and smart ports - before outlining what stubbornly remains as slow and uneven progress in a maritime sector whose supply chain stakeholders must collaborate in arresting and reversing current underinvestment.    You can read the full text of this thought-provoking essay at https://lnkd.in/dFvpsPfD #WeAreSynergy #shipmanagement #digitalisation #logistics #supplychain #digitaltransformation #transportation

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲   We are delighted to announce that on 31 March Synergy Maritime Pvt Ltd took over the full technical management of the dual-fuel LPG vessel “MIRAI”, which can also carry ammonia and VCM.   Owned by leading Japanese shipowners Kumiai Senpaku Co. Ltd, the “MIRAI” is the first medium-sized, fully refrigerated LPG vessel to have been designed and built in China, and was constructed at the Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai under Synergy’s supervision. As project leader over more than 30 months, and in close liaison with owners, charterers and all other stakeholders, Synergy was involved in all design aspects and conducted the pre-contract specification review and the technical negotiations, plan approval, site supervision, delivery and gas trials. As pictured below, our Project Manager, New builds and Offshore Projects, Shirish Sharma, was honoured to be asked by Kumiai Senpaku Co. Ltd to attend the delivery and naming ceremony.   “𝗠𝗜𝗥𝗔𝗜” means “𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲”, and in both design and name this newbuild exemplifies owners’ vision of green seas by digitised, intelligent and state-of-the-art shipping.   Tommy Thomassen, our COO (Tankers), said “By tonnage, alternate-fuelled ships account for nearly half the global order book, and this project further proves that Synergy Marine Group is not just an asset manager - it is a technical thought partner for owners and can deliver integrated solutions which require cross-disciplinary skills.”    Subodh Borse, Director, New Building and Offshore Projects, Synergy Marine Group, added “In the decarbonisation and digitisation spaces, we have been working on vessels like this for some time, as part of evolution and futuristic can-do. A newbuild like the “MIRAI” allows us to deploy a great many areas of expertise, and our ability to do that means we have been able to take on such a variety of technically challenging projects in the maritime and offshore sectors.”    The “MIRAI” finished gas trials at Ulsan on 12 April is currently on her maiden voyage to the USA via the Panama Canal. Here's wishing Captain Sujeet Pandey, Chief Engineer Harsh Vardhan Chaudhary and the whole team on board fair winds and following seas. 𝐍𝐨 𝐏𝐏𝐄 𝐨𝐧 𝐍𝐘𝐄 With physical duties done and all safe in the Day Room, Captain R.Ananth Fernando and his crew on the DAIWAN KALON brought in the New Year with a fancy dress competition, with much creativity and fun.     As pictured, the winners were Oilers Bryan Gayares and Plaridel Relloso - respectively formidable Spider-Man opponent Venom and Spartan warrior-king Leonidas - together with DC Rencel Laserna as super-villain the Joker, and many others came close with well-known cartoon, film and other media characters, with 3E San Pedro Jetmar showing great improvisation with a kettle for a magic lamp.     There was good cheer at this gathering, with Chief Cook Joffer De Asis proudly in his very own costume in having produced a sumptuous feast which was hugely enjoyed by all.   Well done to all competitors and indeed to the whole company on board the DAIWAN KALON for giving 2022 such a send-off and 2023 such a welcome.

Sometimes one of the joys of a port call is the chance to give something back to the wider maritime community, and so it was on 26 April for Captain Turbureanu and his crew on the bulk carrier "CORA OLDENDORFF" when they had the pleasure of receiving 31 students from the nautical school in Brindisi (the Istituto Tecnico Economico e Tecnologico Carnaro-Marconi-Flacco-Belluzzi), together with tutors Stefania Catanzaro and Antonio Catanzaro. A plainly industrious, very happy and much enjoyed visit was organised in liaison with the Brindisi Port Maritime Advisor, and following safety familiarisation there were tours of the Engine Room, Deck and Bridge, with crew members describing the vessel and its equipment, and answering many interesting and also searching questions. Restorative fruit juice and snacks were then provided, and the students disembarked with many positives to ponder in relation to a possible career at sea.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 1 May is International Workers' Day, or Labour Day in some parts, the annual celebration of workers promoted by the international labour movement. The meaning, spirit and entire rationale of the day are all captured in this photo by OS Ace Alcantara Flores on the bulk carrier “AFRICAN SPOONBILL”. Together, just as they set out, a weary team trudges back in stained PPE after a long and tough shift of painting and other maintenance. Looking forward to a clean-up and some food and well-earned downtime, these four seafarers remind us all just what it is to make a living doing many hours of physical work, often with discomfort and sometimes with dangers to manage, and they and all alike will ever have the admiration, respect and support of everyone in the Synergy Marine Group.

𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 We are delighted to say that Synergy Marine Group has joined the ZEBOX community of what is now a score of industry leaders. Synergy has today become a corporate partner in Singapore-based ZEBOX Asia Pacific, the fifth innovation hub in the fast developing international network being established by ZEBOX in order to identify opportunities and facilitate growth and expansion. Here, supported by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and development champion Enterprise Singapore, this new networking and accelerator body will begin by tackling business and sustainability challenges in consultation with entrepreneurs from the supply chain, logistics, transport and energy sectors. Pictured here among the new partners following formal signing at the launch event in Singapore this morning, our founder and CEO Captain Rajesh Unni said “The fastest way we can transform maritime supply chains into dynamic and resilient sustainable structures that meet the world’s pressing need for decarbonised trade is by collaborating in identifying and creating world class solutions to these challenges," “ZEBOX brings together partners that understand where we are now and where we need to get to. With this cohort, we aim to supercharge freight and logistics technology innovations with the transformative potential to accelerate industry adoption, and drive impact where it is most needed.” Laurent Olmeta Gwen Salley CMA CGM

Earlier this month Pantheon Tankers, one of the leading names in the wet trades, took delivery of the “SEA ALTUS”, the eighth in its new series of chemical tanker/Type III vessels, and it is with great pride that Synergy Group announces that it is now providing the technical management for all eight.
“Ship management is all about partnerships, and Pantheon is exactly the type of forward-looking shipping business, with quality vessels, that aligns perfectly with the Synergy-managed fleet” said Tommy Thomassen, COO (Tankers) Synergy Marine Group.
“Our crews and onshore technical teams are fully trained to operate Type III chemical tankers to the highest standards and in a manner that optimises vessel and fleet performance. They will provide exactly the sort of quality service that PANTHEON TANKERS MANAGEMENT LTD quite rightly expects."

At a presentation in Athens yesterday, Synergy’s commitment to excellence and its leadership role in global tanker management was recognised by this SAFETY4SEA accolade.
Tommy Thomassen, COO (Tankers), said he was very proud that the Synergy Marine Group's expertise had been honoured by the tanker sector judges, describing the award as “a tribute to our seafarers and shore-based teams who are constantly pioneering in search of more sustainable shipping and a safety-first environment on all our ships.”  Accepting the award, Captain Vikrant Tomar, Master of the UK-flagged Aframax “KMARIN REGARD”, said it was a “tremendous achievement” for Synergy. Captain Tomar added:
“In addressing the climate crisis, Synergy is once again leading the way by retraining its seafarers so the alternative fuels that are key to decarbonisation are handled safely and according to the highest global standards.”

𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝘀 Late last year we posted that we had been entrusted with the full technical management of the new build chemical tanker "Bow Cheetah", with sister ships "Bow Panther" (due for delivery in November), "Bow Lion" (January this year) and "Bow Leopard" (initially April, and now June) likewise to be managed by Synergy Navis (Pune). We are delighted that this whole feline foursome will be joining our globally managed chemical tanker fleet, with each vessel coming fresh from the renowned Asakawa Shipyard in Japan. Last September, on his 72nd birthday, and on the very day that we took over the “Bow Cheetah”, we saw PM Narendra Modi's reintroduction of cheetahs to India. Just as we do now, we found an echo in that forward-looking care, and the entire Synergy team, ashore and at sea, looks ahead with great pleasure to continue to respond to all these vessels' requirements with the same speed and agility as their big cat namesakes. And only four days ago, the PM released India’s tiger census data and the tiger population has increased by 75% in the last decade and now numbers 3,167, so it seems that in their different ways, the country’s conservationists and our teammates in Pune are all earning their stripes. 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 Partly to try to help, and partly, as before, to remind everyone that they are always in our minds, we have again designed an illustrated calendar for 2023. This includes tips for all on mental well-being and carries messaging that will hopefully help people overcome what are often invisible but very real difficulties. The calendar aims each month to highlight and address key issues, and its captioned artwork is intended to give a helpful steer and a gentle reminder that, no matter how distant, our people are never far from the positive thoughts of their many colleagues in the bonded family that is Synergy, and that support is always there. 𝗦𝗶𝘅 𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆   Having successfully completed the newbuilding supervision and delivery of six state-of-the art, sister MR tankers, Synergy Group now has them under full shipmanagement.   The Dee4 Ilex, Dee 4 Juniper, Dee4 Kastania, Dee4 Mahogany, Clearocean Gingko and Clearocean Hickory are owned by specialist maritime investment firm Dee4 Capital Partners, and were built at the HYUNDAI MIPO DOCKYARD CO., LTD. in South Korea.   All ballast tanks have solvent-free epoxy coatings with low Volatile Organic Compounds, thus reducing carbon emissions during the build, and each vessel has a High Pressure Selective Catalytic Reduction (HP SCR) system in order to reduce NOx emissions - and hence compliance with MARPOL ANNEX VI and NTC 2008 - without compromising engine performance or impacting fuel consumption.   Our Newbuilding and Conversion team managed the vessels throughout the whole of the specification review, plan approval, site supervision and construction. “The team did a fantastic job supervising these vessels, which really are best in class,” said Tommy Thomassen, our COO ( Tankers).   “At Synergy we have been working on concept ships, as part of progressing development and urging a possibility mindset. These very recent newbuilds have showcased our versatility in that arena, which has allowed us to take on so many diverse projects in the maritime and offshore sectors.” added Subodh Borse, Director, New Building and Offshore Projects, Synergy Marine Group Learn more about our end-to-end newbuilding, conversion and retrofit services: https://lnkd.in/d7eSgZ9x

Today is the International Day of Education, in support of UNESCO's goal of "inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong opportunities for all [so we can] succeed in achieving gender equality and breaking the cycle of poverty that is leaving millions of children, youth and adults behind."
Synergy Marine Group wholly endorses that mission statement and fully supports relentless combat and eventual global elimination of this blight, with for instance its own Chakra Scholarship, established last year to enable students aged from 14-15 to train to join the maritime industry. This is part of very active outreach, and November saw members of our CSR team present at major events at SOS Children's Villages of India in Alibaug near Mumbai, the Chennai-based NGO SEVALAYA and a municipal school run by an NGO called Muktangan in Mumbai.
Positive feedback showed that the students found these sessions very insightful, and we hope that these and other such initiatives can bring home to people both the Chakra Scholarship and the wider industry possibilities, and help youngsters who are in need along an inspiring path to a brighter future.

On 11 February, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we again recognise their vital role, both in our industry and the wider scientific community. Synergy Marine Group is wholly opposed to female disenfranchisement in this or any other respect, and encourages more women and girls with a scientific background to join our industry.   We seek to tap what we know is boundless self-inspiration and will help women realise their ambitions through our scholarships for young women in maritime. These can mitigate financial issues and allow them to pursue chosen, career-related study. The number of role models is ever increasing, such as our 4/E Komal Jaiswal, who outlines her academic pathway and captures motivation in the resounding “I have not come this far just to come this far”. Many more will continue to follow, each making her own contribution to what makes Synergy Marine Group such a great place to work, and we echo this year’s theme in our continued support for the UN SDGs. 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿   With his essay, Chief Officer Ullas Krishnan Unnikrishnan on the “CL HUAIYANG” came top in the diversity section of our competition last year.    Citing globalisation not as a herald to wholesale uniformity but as a potential spur to greater diversity, and restating the widely known but routinely forgotten commercial advantages of improved customer service, problem-solving, performance, employee retention, and profit, this winning entry first defines genuine diversity and rightly places emphasis on actions rather than words. It then examines the topic with frank and probing insights - such as the need for further changes in recruitment and better communication with employees - before discussing seven original, practical and likely effective ways for things to improve.
