Hey darling, i was wondering if i can have a request with ron weasley x reader. They start 7th year, the first morning of class she is getting ready with the girls (Hermione and ginny are her roomates) and she realized she packed her 5th year skirt and not the new one, she wears it anyways but its a little too short like to the mid thigh, the boys are always whistlering at her, looking at her legs and throwing "compliments". Ron doesn't like it, it makes him a little insecure but she reminds him she only loves him and she is only him's
I loveeee this concepttt, and I hope you like it<3
Promise?

You were totally going to flip out.
You spent so long making sure you had everything packed for the semester and here you were. It was frustrating to you, how could you miss this? This skirt was a size and a half too small, the most you moved the wrong way your whole asscheek would've been on the newsletters front page.
"It doesn't look that bad, it's wearable." Ginny stated, genuinely not finding a problem in you skirt as she brush through her red locks. "Besides you definitely have the legs for it." She tried to cheer you up as you stared at yourself in the body length mirror.
It's was your first day of year 7 and you were already off to a bad start. You wore this exact skirt on this exact day 2 years ago. You had grown since then, you were no longer a child, yet somehow you still managed to squeeze yourself right into this god awful skirt. It stopped down right at your mid thigh, and to say this was out of your comfort zones would be an understatement. You were on the verge of just deciding not to show up for classes today. Though you knew Hermione was never going to let that actually happen.
"You think I'd get away with it?" You pouted, and both of the girls nodded.
"You look like some of the muggle girls I see back home. They have interesting taste, personally I'd never pull it off, but you do, very well." Hermione spoke in hopes to cheer you up.
It didn't work very well.
"And if anyone asks just say you're making a fashion statement." Gin spoke, sending the idea through your head for only moment before you shook it out.
"No one makes fashion statements at Hogwarts... it's basically forbidden." You whined, stomping your foot on the ground.
"Says who?"
"It's an unspoken rule amongst like... everyone." You sighed in response.
Ginny rolled her eyes, standing from the edge of her bed. It was time to head for breakfast and meet up with the boys. You've been rambling about this since you got back to campus. You had yet to see Ronald, and you were overly ecstatic to see his beautiful face yet again. He and Harry sent you letters all summer long but you were busy doing things back in your hometown. You wanted to sneak out last night, but the two of you agreed on the morning. Besides, most of your classes were together, including your off period meaning you too got to do whatever you pleased for a whole hour. What's not exciting about that?!
"We have to get going soon, y/n. I'm hungry, and Hermione is halfway out the door already." Ginny spoke, grabbing you bag from off the floor as well. "No one is going to notice, you look fine." She reassured you. "And if anyone says anything about my sister-in-law we will be having some words." She smiled sweetly making your cheeks hot.
"Me and Ron aren't even married." You fought back you smiled as you took your bag from the girl. She was basically like the little sister you've always wanted. "And after today I might die of embarrassment, so we never will be."
"I think you look great. Now. Can we go?" Hermione stood, ready to start her day.
"Ugh, fine." You groan, both of the girls smiling widely at you. "But I'm only giving myself until 3 class before I started sobbing." You sighed as Hermione took your hand in hers. Leading you to the door.
"Please, you won't make it past snap me if he sees you in the hallway." Ginny scoffed, your eyes widening as you realized she was right.
"What if he dress codes me? Or all the teachers think I'm a whore? Oh god, I'm going to get kicked out-"
"Y/N! You're skirts not even that short, and I was talking about you holding in tears!" Ginny sighed, closing the room down behind the 3 of you.
You couldn't help it, you were on a rollercoaster of emotions up all the way to the dining hall. That's where the lot of your friends stood in the halls catching up and sending you sweet smiles and took you how good you looked. You're cheeks were burning hot, and the compliment made you want to curl up into a ball.
"Look, there they are!" Hermione spoke, pointing to the two boys, already digging into the food on their plates. You noticed the extra cup of juice and muffin on Ron's plate, he saved it just for you, knowing how uneasy your stomach is in the mornings.
A bright smile formed on your face as you began making your way towards your boyfriend. Your smile slowly faded as loud group of ravenclaw boys in the corner of the cafeteria sent loud whistle noises through the air. Your eyes went to them immediately before you noticed their sights set on you. Ron's head turned slowly too, not very interested in whatever poor girl they were harassing until his gaze was set on you.
His jaw nearly dropped to the floor. You looked beautiful, as you always did. You were walking with that smile you do when your uncomfortable, and your finger freshly manicured fingers gripping the strap of your book bag. You were dressed in your regular uniform, except when you scanned you over his eyes got stuck on the length of your legs. They were nice, they looked warm, and comfortable. He's see your legs before though, he's seen each of your boys part very close and intimately before but, now everyone was seeing what was usually reserved for his eyes only.
"People are staring." You mumbled.
"Let's just get to the table so they have nothing to stare at." Hermione spoke and you nodded.
"Nice skirt, Y/L/N!" A voice called out from somewhere in the cafeteria.
You ignored the comment, heading straight for your boyfriend who stood quickly from his seat at the table to greet you.
You're smile returned as you approached, neither of you waiting too long to wrap up in each other's arms. You threw your arms over his shoulder, his cinnamony scent taking over you nostrils almost instantly. His arms wrapped around you waist, gripping you tightly as he soaked in your presence. You felt your body release all tension it held and for a brief moment in time you forgot all about-
"Hey y/n," you're attention broke away from the warmth of Ron's body sinking into yours to the tall brunette with a bright smile on his face. "There's a party in the commons later, you should drop by." He spoke, eyes falling down your body, taking their sweet time in returning back to your face.
"Oh uhm, sure thing Cedric." You spoke, pulling away from you're red headed boyfriend.
"You guys can come too if you want." He spoke looking at the rest of your friends. "Can't wait to hear all about your summer, y/n." He spoke to you, sending a wink before waving goodbye.
You and Cedric had a few classes together, but you were never super close friends. Definitely not close enough to be inviting each other to party's.
"Since when are you Cedric best friends?" Your boyfriend asked noticing the way Cedric totally checked you out and how you didn't even notice.
"We're not. He was just being friendly." You shrugged it off, not seeing much more too it. You sent your boyfriend a sweet smile, unable to contain your happiness that you were finally reunited. "Now am I going to have to pretend that I want you to kiss me or are you going to read my mind?" You joked. Ron smiled, shaking off the weird feelings. His hands moved up to cup your face, bringing yours up to his until your lips came together. He tasted like orange juice and some type of tart berry.
"Oh young love. I love love." Lunas voices spoke breaking your kiss apart. Suddenly you pushed your boyfriend away to hug your other friend Luna. You missed her all too much this summer, seeing her again made your heart happy. "Hello." She giggled.
"It's good to see you, Luna. I've missed you so much."
"I've missed you too, y/n." Your friend smiled sweetly as you finally let her go, giving her space to breathe. "Bold fashion choice, really shows off your legs. You have nice legs." She commented, making your cheeks turn hot.
"Thank you, Luna." You smiled. "It wasn't really intentional, but I have to stick it out for the next few days." You explain and she nods.
"Hey y/n!" A voice called from across the cafeteria again. "Looking good!"
You smile a bit, not really sure how to respond to the comment. You haven't changed much over the summer. Maybe you grew a few centimeters, and changed your hair up a bit, but you were still the same old y/n. It was like you haven't know half of this dining hall for the past 6/7 years of you life.
"You've got to be kidding me." Ron scoffed, eyeing around the room from who the sound came from.
"Ronnie, it's whatever, let's just sit, yeah" you hummed looking the spot he had reserved to you. "Muffins, my favorite." You tried changing the subject but you could still tell how the comment made from some asshole across the way bothered him. His cheeks were glowing red and his eyes squinting a bit. His lips pressed together in a thin line as you guided him to sit back down at the breakfast table.
The day past very slowly. Teachers making snide remarks about skin, groups of girls whisper in the halls as you passed, and the occasional whistle call from a boy who just couldn't help himself.
You were invited to the same party about 4 different times today. Each times with your boyfriend present, as if he wasn't standing right there. Some 5th year even tried asking you out in front of Ron, you saved his life by not respond and just pretending you didn't hear. Ron would've ripped the kids ears off if you acknowledged the plain foolery.
"Where are you going, Ronald?" You asked as class ended. The two of you were supposed to spend your first free period of the school year together in the garden with sweets you snuck here from back home. Right now he just wanted to get out of the classroom as quickly as possible. "Ron!" You spoke louder, your steps quick in order to catch up with him.
"I heard you the first time, y/n." He turned his head to gripe. Your eyebrows furrowed together at the unnecessarily aggressive comment.
"If you didn't want to hang out with me, you could've just said. You don't have to be a dick about it." You scoffed, shaking your head even though he couldn't see your obviously hurt visual reaction.
His hand reached out for your wrist, before you could walk away. You didn't want to cause a scene in the hallway full of students rushing to be out of the halls in a jiffy. You allowed Ron to drag you along with him, until he opened up an empty class room door. He pulled you in, shut the door behind you and spelling it shut so no one would interrupt the two of you.
"You're not seriously going to that party tonight are you?" He scoffed out first, setting his bag on the ground as he turned to look at you with disappointment.
"People are expecting me there, Ron. Everyone is going!" You sighed.
"Doesn't mean you have to!"
"Is that why you're upset? A party? Bloody hell Ronald." You cursed, annoyed with the red head.
"I'm upset because guys have been flirting with you like crazy all day and you just bloody let them!" He growled as you set your own bag down. "Don't act as if you had all of these friends last year, when we both know you didn't. The only reason the want you to go is so they can stare at your ass some more!" He fired your eyes widening a bit. It made perfect sense... You rarely ever spoke to Cedric before, or half of the boys that approached you today. You took all of their friendly gestures as... friendly gestures. Pulling out seats for you, complimenting your appearance, everything, you thought they were just being kind.
"Excuse me, I don't see the worst in everyone. It's a new year, we're growing up, they were just being nice! You defend."
"To you!" He snaps.
"What's that supposed to mean?" You're arms dropped from being crossed over your chest. His mouth opened to respond before shutting again, shaking his head and muttering a quick "never mind, it's nothing". "What did you mean, Ron." You spoke seriously, honestly quite annoyed with his behavior.
"I've had to watch every boy in this school practically drool all over you since breakfast." He spoke up. You had forgotten about breakfast. "The whistles, the compliments, I even heard some Slytherin talk about winning you over at the party tonight." He sighed, explaining his anger. Was he jealous?
"But literally everyone knows I'm yours, Ronnie." You respond in a softer tone, taking a step towards him. "I've been your for almost a whole year now, The thought of not being with you hasn't even crossed my mind."
"Do you think they care, y/n?" He scoffed again. "Your hot, your smart, and you have a boyfriend, your a perfect target!" He whined.
"I'm not going to be won over by cheap pick up lines and bad booze."
"Are you sure? Because Cedric seems to think that your already begging him to sweep you off your feet. Was whispering about it all class." He pouted and you heart dropped into your stomach. "And why wouldn't you? He's good looking, sporty, funny, charming, and apparently he's a great kisser."
"I wouldn't because I don't love him. I love you. I'll always love you, I'll never love anyone the way I love you. Your good looking, smart, you can be sporty if you didn't doubt yourself every five seconds-" he rolled his eyes, attempting to turn away from you before you grabbing his hand pulling him closer to you. "Like your doing now... your hilarious to me, Ronnie. You're the most interesting person I know, and I'm pretty sure your the best kisser to ever grace this sad run down planet." You spoke, pulling him until your bodies touched, placing his hands on your waist as you looked up into his soft eyes. "I love you, Ronald."
"Do you promise?" He spoke quickly and you nodded.
"I'm going to marry you one day" A smile slowly found its way to his red face, allowing the anger and sadness to flush right through him.
"I love you, y/n. More than life itself."
"Promise?" You smiled back.
"Would I ever lie to the mother of my future children?"
You stood on your tiptoes, leaning your head up until your lips pressed against his. He still tasted like orange juice, the tart berry faded as the day went past. His hands on your waist squeezing as you arms went over his shoulders. Your lips moving against his gave him a good taste of your cherry flavored lip balm. It was a new one, last year your stuck to a watermelon flavored balm.
You hadn't even noticed the two of you were moving until he helped you hop up on one of the lab tables. Your hands moving down to unbuckle his pants as quickly as possible before he pulled apart your kiss.
"Are you sure you wanna do this here?" He asked, only because he knew you would die of embarrassment if caught by anyone. He had no problem having sex with you in here, it's not like he hadn't that about it tens of times core.
"Take me, right here." You nodded, unbuttoning his pants as you focused on one thing. "You know, I've really really missed you this past few months." Your bottom lip caught between your teeth. "I've missed you over and over and over..." you hummed, tugging his pants down enough until they weren't in your way.
"That's a lot of missing me." Ron swallowed, you fingers slipping past the waist band of his boxers pulling them down a bit before you pulled out his cock with precum already leaking from his tip.
"Mmhmm." You lost count of how many times you struggled to get yourself off without Ron. It was frustrating and made you regret not spend at least a few weeks with him and his family. "I've felt Kinda... empty." You spoke spreading your legs for him as he prepped himself.
"I could help you out with that... make you feel more... full." He offered and you nodded. His hands slipping under the skirt that was no basically showing your whole ass, pushing you black panties to the sides. You were already dripping as his fingers ran up you slit to make sure you were ready for him.
"Please Ronnie." You moaned, as he lined himself up with your entrance.
He looked to you for last second approval, you nod, pulling his body closer to yours by his tie, connecting your lips once more before he finally pushed into you. You both groaned at the sensation, he stretched you out until you felt the pleasurable burn spreading through your groin. Not stopping until your hips met and he was deep inside of you. Your walls clenched around him, missing the feeling of the burn he usually ensued.
He drew his hips back only a bit before slowly rocking himself into you. Your ass on the very edge of the table. Legs wrapped around his waist and he fucked into you. Lips still connected in sloppy slow sensual kisses that you dreamt about so many nights this summer. Your muffled moans filled the dead silence in the empty classroom the two of you were occupying. The sounds only encouraging his movements as his hips sped up in pace, hands down to grip your thighs to keep your legs apart for him. This wasn't the way either of you wanted to wanted to greet each other after 3 sum months, but it'd have to do.
"God, your so tight!" Ron moaned through the sloppily kisses. His voice made you clench around him once more making his hips stutter as he moved faster and harder.
"You feel so good baby."you moaned, voice in a high pitch and out of breath.
His lips moved from your to down your neck, arm wrapped around your back to keep you steady. You were trying to keep yourself quiet in case any stragglers in the halls happened to walk by. You let out tiny gasps and squeals whenever he hit a particular deep spot in your cunt that nearly drove you mad.
"F-fuck"
His hand moved from your thigh to your clit. Rubbing harsh circle on the bundle of nerves. Your jaw fell open as you tried to focus on a single point of pleasure to celebrate, with his cock hitting your g spot with every thrust and your clit sending pleasurable shocks through the rest of your body it was hard to focus on just one thing.
"M's-so cl-ose-" you choked out, unable to really forming words.
"I know, babe, cum for me, Princess." Ronald murmured, brain foggy with lust. Hips still rocking into
yours as you desperately tried to hold on for just a bit longer. It became harder to control to noises slipping past your lips. Uttering his name in your whines as he brought you over the edge, hips moving a bit slower as you clenched tightly around him, legs shaking a bit as he helped you ride out your orgasm.
“Oh fuck” you moaned, breathing heavy and hips still rocking into his.
“Almost forgot how pretty you are when you do that.” He smirks, your eyebrows furrowing a bit.
“When I do what?” You hum, he opened his mouth to respond but he just shut it back again before shaking his head.
“Nothing.” He shrugged.
“N- wait, did you..?” You peered down between the two of you.
“Uhm no, it’s fine- I don’t even have condom on me-”
“I can-”
“No, you don’t have to-”
“I want to.” You stated, smiling at the way it was so easy to read each other’s minds. “Really.”
“I mean... yeah, uhm okay.” He spoke, cheeks turning a bright red color. You nodded letting out a slight moan as he pulled out of you. He helped you off the table, allowing you to fix your skirt before sinking down to your knees. You looked up to him through your lashes basically causing his insides to melt at the sight.
You wasted no time in making sure he was satisfied. Your lips arm lips warming around him, tongue collecting all of your own juices as you took him further into your mouth. You let out a soft moan, sending the vibrations through his spine earning a groan from him. His mouth fell open as he felt his tip touch the back of your throat. His eyes glued on your lips as his cock disappeared in your mouth over and over. He fought the strong urge to see just how far you could take him in your pretty mouth before you couldn’t breathe.
“Bloody hell, just like that, y/n.” He moaned, hand finding its way to the back of your head, only pushing you into him gently. You didn’t mind it, you actually very often craved the way he usually took control. That ache between your legs returned, the one that usually made your mind foggy and made bad decisions seem not so bad in the long run.
The ground cold on your knees, skirt wrapped tightly around your body, boyfriend beginning to twitch as your push your limit in how far he could go. Tears polling in the bottom of your eyes, threatening to ruin the makeup you had done perfectly for the day. You felt his cock twitching in your mouth enjoying the noises coming from his throat as he neared his high.
“Fuck I’m gonna-” he moaned before spilling his hot seed into you mouth. Without think you swallow I’m around him, milking him for whatever he was worth before he had to pull you away from him. Both of you slightly out of breath before as he helped you to your feet. Your lips glossy from a mixture of spit and his cum, which he didn’t seem to mind as he pulled you in for one final kiss.
“We should skip next period and lunch, have some fun... I haven’t seen you all summer and I really missed you.” You emphasized on the really, as you pulled away from the kiss.
“And as much as I’m not opposed to that, you’d castrate me tomorrow for letting you skip the first day just to have sex.”
“Mm, you get me.” You giggled, watching as he fixed himself so he could the two of you could return to normal civilization. “Now we should go before someone tries to get in here.” You mentioned, fixing your own skirt once again, and making sure you had no remnants of Ron on your face or clothes. You helped fix his tie until you both looked as well as two people could after fucking in a classroom. “Do you think we could sneak out tonight? Have a picnic under the Stars somewhere?” You asked, earning a light hearted chuckle from your boyfriend.
“What about your party?” He asked.
“They’ll just have to miss us.” You shrugged, taking Ron’s hand in yours as you know lace your bag on you shoulder.
He didn’t respond but you knew the answer. He just smile as pulled the both of you towards the door stopping as you heard the quick tapping of someone’s feet’s along the stone floors. You both paused in the doorway, hearts beating before watching your dark haired best friend turn the corner. He spotted the two of you quickly with a smile, out of breath and not really in the position to stop but he did so anyways.
“Woah, mate, what are you doing?” Ron asked, confusion lightly his face.
Harry’s eyes flickered from you back to Ron before rolling to the back of his head out of annoyance.
“That thing we said we were going to do earlier. You disappeared so I did it myself... and well... I got caught, so if you will excuse me-" you’re eyebrows furrowed as you looked to Ron with a sudden pale and tense figure.
“What did you do?” You groaned.
“YOU’RE DEAD POTTER!” A familiar clump of voices called, echoing through the halls before you’re eyes went wide.
“Tell you later?” He offered before you rolled your eyes gripping your boyfriend hand as you both prepared to run along side your friend.

lover boy | n.jm
↳ na jaemin x gender neutral!reader
synopsis: jaemin’s best friend, donghyuck, overhears you and your best friend talking about your big phat crush on jaemin. and of course, hyuck just had to tell him.
genre: lowkey fluff and hyuck being annoying hehe
word count: 1,758
“god did you see him today?” i gushed over the boy, who i’ve been crushing on since middle school, to my best friend as we were walking down the school hallway, trying to find our way through the big crowd of students. “he just looks so good in that beanie.”
“y/n, when will you ever get over your crush on him,” my friend sighed. “plus, he’s too much of a fuckboy to treat you right.” i bit my bottom lip slightly while letting out a deep breath through my nose. “i know.” i replied.
it sucked. the crush started when we were seated next to each other in 6th period world history class in 7th grade. at first, i would dread going to that class because all jaemin did was doodle on my paper, ask me what we’re doing in class every five minutes, and step on my shoes just to annoy me. then gradually, i began to laugh with him and i was actually able to have proper conversations with him without rolling my eyes or scoffing at every other word that would come out of his mouth. my crush for him naturally unfolded but i was such in denial for the first couple months.
it wasn’t until i started to notice that he would sit with lonely kids at lunch even though his friends would tease him about it, he would just call them off and tell them to ‘fuck off,’ which was when i began to accept it. i then noticed that he did try in class even if he didn’t understand something, he wouldn’t feel ashamed to ask for help or stay after class just to fully understand the lesson.
he even asked me to tutor for him one time, but i thought he was joking so i made fun of him and turned him down. i mentally slap myself still for doing that to him. he must think i’m a bitch now.
well now, we’re juniors in high school and my crush for him has only gotten bigger throughout time. unfortunately, we don’t talk no more. we don’t even greet each other when we see each other in the hallways. i doubt he even remembers me.
“i just can’t help but believe he’s actually a sweet guy,” i tried to reason with my friend but it was no point.
“jaemin?! sweet?? babe, there’s absolutely no way,” my best friend said a little too loudly and laughed at me as if i was being delusional. and maybe i was.
“can you please shut up! i thought we promised to use code names when we’re in public.” i whispered harshly.
“pleeeaaasee, nearly everyone in this damn school has a crush on jaemin. you’ll be fine, y/n, you’re not special.” my friend tried to tease me to lighten the mood but we were interrupted by a loud intentional cough behind us.
i didn’t look back because why would i? my nosy friend did tho. they looked back for a millisecond then faced me with regret and fear written all over their face. mouthing the words, “don’t kill me.”
i didn’t have time to question them on what was going on since a tall boy with honey skin and brown parted hair made room for himself between us and hooked his arms around our shoulders.
“na jaemin huh, y/n?” donghyuck, one of jaemin’s greatest friends since childhood, faced me and his shit eating grin was so clear in broad daylight. “i did not expect that at all.” he chuckled at my red face.
“how much did you hear,” i asked him, now getting really irritated and was ready to deck him.
“literally all of it, you guys are really shameless talking about crushes so fucking loudly in this crowded hallway.” his arms still on us and he was walking sluggishly, of course his smirk was still there. “i can do you a favor, y/n, by telling your lover boy.”
“you better not!” my friend yelled at him for me. “look, this is my fault ‘kay. don’t do y/n like that.”
donghyuck fake pouted. “what’s the fun in that? i think jaemin would be fond of the surprising news honestly.”
my stomach churned at the last sentence but the feeling immediately went away when i remembered who was talking. donghyuck was infamous for being a teasing bastard so no one takes him seriously. “dude, seriously just get out of here.” i said.
“if you please, babe.” he snickered and took his arms off of us and walked away.
“oh my god, i am so sorry y/n. oh my god, i’ll treat you lunch after school. please forgive me. i should’ve kept our promise. are you mad? please don’t be mad, but you have every right to be if you are.” my friend rambled on as we finally made it to our class.
“y/f/n, it’s fine. really, it’s fine. you didn’t know and honestly, i don’t care anymore. maybe, this will help me get rid of my crush on him.” i shrugged it off like it was nothing to avoid worrying my friend, but inside, i was losing it.
what if donghyuck actually tells him? will jaemin makes fun of me? is he going to give me dirty looks now? at least now, he’ll notice me. ugh, he’ll be confused as to why the girl who was a bitch to him in middle school likes him. karma.
i took a deep breath in attempt to calm myself down. he wouldn’t act that way. he’s a nice guy, i know he is deep down.
the conversation me and my best friend had with donghyuck earlier in the day still stayed on my mind all day. i avoided all the routes i’d take around the school where i’d usually see jaemin walking around. i kept my head down while walking down the halls. i tried my best to avoid him, even though on regular days, i’d try my best to ‘bump’ into him.
the last class of the day was near. i was walking up the flight of empty stairs peacefully, trying to get to class even though, i’d rather be at home under my bed sheets trying to forget today.
“y/n,” a painfully familiar presence was behind me. jaemin stood a couple stair steps behind, his hands in his pockets of his baggy pants. i turned around slowly and admired him the second i saw his figure. his beanie fitted his head so well, a couple hair strands were sticking out. i could see his silver chain that stayed beneath his orange hoodie slightly. he stood there with confidence radiating. “hey,” he avoided eye contact but he was wearing a smile.
“hi,” i couldn’t keep my eyes off of him. he was just so nice to look at. his cheeks slightly tinted pink and i could see his fingers fiddling in his pockets. i decided to suck up my pride and just be straight forward as i couldn’t handle the painfully awkward silence no more. “if.. you’re here because of donghyuck then just forget about it please. i’m sorry about that.” he finally looked me in the eyes after i finished talking and i was surprised that i was able to maintain the eye contact. my face grew hot immediately.
“why are you apologizing?”
i honestly didn’t know. i just can’t imagine how awkward he feels right now because of me. “i just hope you don’t feel obligated to talk to me because of what happened. it was stupid. i’m just. sorry. i guess.” i was preparing myself for the rejection but jaemin’s puppy eyes made me second guess that.
“god you really are oblivious.” he sighed. “i know hyuck can be an asshole at times but he wouldn’t embarrass anyone like how you think he’s done to you by telling me about- uh.. your crush.”
i was so confused. my mouth was open but nothing came out.
my breathing hitched when he slowly started to walk up the stairs and was now so much closer to me. “tell me, is it true?” his voice was a lot quieter and softer. “you’ve liked me for that long?”
i gulped. not knowing if i should lie or not. but god, he already knows because of donghyuck so might as well just go for it. i nodded.
a big smile creeped onto his face. my eyebrows furrowed. is this entertaining to him? my misery and embarrassment is entertaining to him? i was just about ready to get out of there and flip him off for making me feel like this but he trapped me between his body and the wall behind me.
“y/n, have you not been noticing how i look at you? since 7th fucking grade, i’ve always been putting an effort to just see you for even a second outside of class.” his breath fanned my face. “i like you too if it wasn’t obvious enough.”
clearly it wasn’t.
before i could even process anything, he gently put our lips together. his slightly chapped lips fit so perfectly with my soft lips. he hummed as he tasted the strawberry flavored chapstick on my lips. his hands were placed on the wall, while mine were gripping his purple pullover tightly.
my mind and heart were racing. what the hell is going on? is this real?
he didn’t move his lips at all. it was a simple but meaningful kiss. “i like you too.” i whispered, looking into his brown eyes, slowly releasing my grip on his pullover.
he laughed at me. “you’re cute.” he walked back, allowing me to have room to move. “how about i take you out this friday?” he smiled at me. “only if you want to.”
“of course i want to.” i rolled my eyes playfully and smiled back.
his smile grew bigger, i didn’t know that was possible. “perfect. i’ll see you later.” he went closer to me and cupped my jaw and kissed my heated pink cheeks. his other hand placed something inside my tan cardigan pocket.
he pulled away and right before he left, he had to say, “also, can you change your chapstick flavor? i don’t really like strawberries.” he flashed me a bright smile and left.
i shook my head smiling uncontrollably, not believing what had just happened. i put my hand into my pocket and saw what he had slipped in there.
a note.
call me when you get home. 283-xxx-xxxx <3 we should catch up :)
-your lover boy

oh yes, tell me more about this beautiful lesbian slowburn. I’m a sucker for a good love story
Okay so to start off, My sexuality fluctuates greatly throughout this story, but as of now I identify as a Bisexual lithsexual lesbian, which means that I am attracted to lots of people but lose attraction when the feelings are reciprocated, and I'll only date girls.
The story starts off August of 2018. I was starting 6th grade (middle school) and didn't really have any friends aside from a few people that I had last talked to in 3rd grade.
It's important to know that I'm a GT kid and so I almost always have the same group of about 20 kids. This started when I changed to an all GT class for 4th grade.
While it's nice to have a comfortable learning environment, it also means that there's no escape from any drama, and you get to pick friends from the very small pool of kids that you'll spend the rest of your education with.
This is a pretty long story as well and I'm not sure I'll be able to accurately retell many of the things because dates get mixed up and stuff. Anyway, I'm gonna try my best to explain but these are really only the things from my point of view and I don't remember a lot of the things. (This is also gonna be written like a fanfic because that's all I know how to write, I apologise)
So start of sixth grade, I don't really have any friends, I'm kind of this awkward nerd, there's 2 people in my class (we switch classes like normal middle school, but I'm with the GT kids for most of the day so that's what I'll refer to them as) that I've known for years, a few I've met before, but mostly new people.
I sit by some old friends from volleyball at lunch for the first few days but begin to feel unwelcome. One day I decide to sit by these two people that I know are in GT but haven't talked to before. I don't say anything, but I sit and they don't mind.
The next day we get new seats in English. I'm behind a boy named Owen, Inara, who is one of the girls I sat with at lunch, is to my right, and in front of her is a girl named Emilyse.
Inara and I hit it off immediately.
It's kind of crazy because we're both crazy anxious introverts, but we gel nicely. I'm a boyband-obsessed 11 year old and she's a mature and mysterious 11 year old.
She's a lefty. I'm a righty. The way we've been placed makes us bump arms everytime we try to write anything.
We have every class together. Somehow, we sit next to each other in every class as well, even in the ones where we didn't pick our seating chart.
It's September. I cry over boybands. She watches curiously.
For the next couple of months we casually talk. She spends every lunch period in the library. We text occasionally.
I have another friend who takes priority. His name is Logan. We got introduced by his friend Lennox when she asked for my phone number to give to him.
Lennox and I don't talk. Logan and I text nonstop for months. We discuss possibly dating in the future. I identify as bisexual and biromantic at this point.
I've been in this position before. Having mainly guy friends growing up puts me in a lot of awkward friendship/relationship situations. They always end the same.
I have an issue with dating in middle school. You're not dating if you don't go on dates, hold hands, kiss, or cuddle. But you can feel like you are.
In December Logan starts being mean. We start a game where we step on each other's shoes at lunch or in the hallway. It's fun.
Eventually, he recruits his friends to do it to me, too. It's a joke a first, but eventually there are 10 middle school boys chasing me and trying to hurt me.
I get kicked in the hallway and fall. Someone steps on my arm and people laugh. Logan watches. I tell Inara and she steps on his shoe for me.
Logan and I stop talking. Inara and I hang out more. By early January, Inara has stopped going to the library at lunch. We hang out with Emilyse in the field instead.
I text Logan one day in mid January and ask why we fell out. He says that I told someone that I was going to punch him in the face.
The person he said I told, only talked to me at the bus stop, and he didn't ride my bus. I had never said it in the first place, but his logic made it even more frustrating.
I tell him I got scared because I had a crush on him and didn't want to make things weird. It was a lie.
In February I came out to someone for the first time. They asked if I was bi and I said yes.
By March I had accepted that coming out didn't really make a difference. Inara and I hung out at school but not really anywhere else.
My birthday's in April. I invite her, Emilyse, and Rebekah. We paint rocks and draw on a table cloth. Emilyse feels distant.
Emilyse is homophobic. We find out in English one day. I don't remember how. Inara and I look at each other. We know we're both queer but haven't come out to each other.
I ask Emilyse if she would hate someone in GT for coming out. She says yes. Inara and I stop talking to her.
By May I've become obsessed with Marvel. Inara's interested in it and I decide to be, too. We talk about the movies. It gets awkward. She's not as interested when I get in on it.
By June we're best friends. We hang out fairly regularly, have all our classes together, and text all the time. Logan is forgotten.
School lets out at the start of June. We keep texting regularly. We make plans to see the new spiderman movie in early July with one of our other friends.
I have a complicated relationship with said friend. They're non-binary, although I didn't know it yet, and I've known them since Kindergarten. Inara met them in an advisory this year. I get jealous easily.
The day of the movie I shop at Kohl's. I buy the two of us matching shirts. We meet at the movie theater and it's awkward. I pay for popcorn and sneak in snacks that we share. Our friend's dad is there, but Inara and I don't have parents present.
We sit next to each other during the movie. At a certain scene, I start to get anxious. My stomach hurts and I can't breathe, I start to get sweaty.
I get up and rush out of the theater. I get to the women's bathroom and sit down on the floor of the very last stall. I'm panicing, dry heaving into the toilet, and trying not to cry. I try to text my mom that I'm having a panic attack but don't have reception.
I go back into the theater room after a few minutes. I'm still anxious, but better. Our friend is highly concerned, Inara just glances at me worriedly.
It's my first panic attack, and it sucked.
We leave awkwardly after it ends, trying to avoid the obvious elephant in the room. My mom is concerned when she picks me up. We don't talk about it. My dad and brother are watching it illegally when I get home.
We don't see each other until August of 2019, but continue to text through the rest of the summer.
When 7th grade starts, I'm still into Marvel. I've seen all the movies at this point, but there haven't been any new ones (even now) since FFH. Inara's interested, but not fully.
In late August/Early September we take BuzzFeed quizzes for fun and text each other the results. I take one about soulmates. I get her initials. I send her the link. She gets mine.
We take more and they all point to us being soulmates. We propose by sending pictures of rings over text. The wedding date is set for September 28th, 2019.
The time comes. It's Saturday and my brother has a double football game. We've planned to pick her up and take her there. It's a Christian league, so the games are at a church.
We go to the garden. There's a small white bench in some rocks, surrounded by flowers. We joke that we've had our ceremony. We wander around for a while longer.
My dad suggests that we go to the taco bell across the parking lot. We do. When we're done, we walk back to my house. Its not far, but we're alone. I carry her halfway back.
When we get to my house we pick things from my garden. We're barefoot and I'm wearing overalls. I joke that we're gonna get a farm one day when we're older.
She picks things while I stand back and watch. The sun hits her dyed-red hair just right. I vividly remember smiling at thinking "holy fuck she's pretty" you would think I'd put together my crush by then.
October rolls around and she cancels plans to go trick-or-treating with me. I'm upset but understand.
We "work" on a school project at her house. We don't actually get anything done before cuddling up on her bed and falling asleep to black panther.
In November, it's Emilyse's birthday party. We've gotten distant but still talk occasionally. Inara and I both go to the party.
We're watching Spiderman Far From Home because that's what Emilyse wanted. I've seen in twice, Ianra has too.
We're given candy and popcorn and then curl up on the couch. Inara and I sit next to each other.
(I forgot to mention this but at some point she stayed the night at my house. She slept on the floor in her swimming suit even though I asked if she wanted to sleep on the bed. Swimming was fun though. We also go to an arcade. We mini-golf and play laser tag. We also danced in the rain together at some point that day.)
Once we're no more than 15 minutes into the movie, I'm cuddled into her chest. It's important to mention that at this point I'm 5'6 and she's no more than 5'0.
We cuddle the entire movie. We share candy and pretend no one else is there. It feels great.
We don't talk about that night for months. Nobody brings it up. I come out to Rebekah around this time, saying no more than that I like girls. I still haven't told Inara.
By December, I've brought her to church a few times. I don't enjoy going to church, but my parents always encouraged it.
(I'd like to say at this point as well that I have been raised Christian and identify with the faith despite the fact that I despise Church and disagree with many of the common teachings. If I ever had to choose for some reason, my sexuality matters more to me than my religion. Regardless, I respect your beliefs if they differ from mine :) )
Inara's birthday is in mid December. Her party consists of us making gay jokes with our enby friend despite not being technically out to each other.
My church youth group plans ice skating. I invite her and she accepts. I'm worried about it. It's essentially a date. Neither of our parents will be there.
We carpool with the youth leaders, who are actually pretty cute for a hetero couple. Inara and I share awkward glances the whole time.
When we get there I learn that Inara took ice skating lessons as a child. She's much more confident than I am, but pretends she doesn't know what she's doing. I skate about once or twice a season, but also rollerblade.
There's a wet, sloped, melty part of the rink. I get nervous and grab her hand. She holds it until we're out of the melted ice.
Every lap around I grab her hand at that point. Eventually, we just keep holding hands for an entire lap.
By the end of the night, we've both fallen a few times but held hands the whole time. We drop her off and I say goodnight.
That night, I rant about the adventure to one of my (ex)friends, who excitedly listens to my talk about holding hands with a girl.
There's a GT Christmas party at Hannah's. Inara and I carpool there. It's an all together boring party with the exception of a few interesting truth-or-dare questions.
(side note, remember Owen? Well he's one of Inara and I's best friends and we were actually close enough that the three of us were basically cuddling on the couch during part of the party. Also the whole class knows about Inara and I's wedding and calls us wives.)
Paislie asks me if I wanted to "marry" Inara before we got "married". I mumble an answer that nobody hears. I don't repeat it. When it's time to leave, Inara and I have our legs intertwined on the couch. We don't mention that, either. We drop her off and I say goodnight.
January is good. There's a night, the 4th I believe, that we really connect. We officially come out to each other for the first time on that night, and it gets really real, really fast.
She says she's pan, I say I'm bi but confused.
In mid January she texts me that she's crying because one of her favorite YouTubers finally hit a million. She cries for hours but never tells me who. I pay it no mind.
A few days later, she mentions a YouTube channel called Unus Annus and tells me that it's super interesting. I text back but don't look it up.
A few more days pass and I'm randomly on the trending page for YouTube, which I never do. I see a video trending called "Mark and Ethan go casket shopping". The thumbnail is interesting enough that I check what the channel is. I notice it's the one Inara told me about.
I watch the video and subscribe within 5 minutes. I text Inara quotes from that video, Ethan Finally Becomes a Man, and the Lie Detector test videos, until she responds and is surprised that I found the channel.
I obsess quickly and depend on her to know the new video at 1pm everyday. She gets annoyed and we drift apart slowly.
In February things get rocky. We fight often. If I win a small argument she doesn't talk to me for hours. She gets pissed at refuses to tell me what the Unus Annus video is called if I ask too many times.
At some point I get fed up and confront her. I don't remember what about, but we stop talking all together.
Friends pick sides. I'm left alone. We don't talk for a month. She tells me that she pushed me away because she thought I'd react badly to her telling me she loves me.
I confess my crush. She tells me she feels the same.
We finally make up at about 8:30 on a Sunday night in March. It's not fixed but we plan to talk. And 9:00, the school district announces that it's shutting down until least after spring break.
We stopped trying to communicate, but eventually, slowly we started talking again. We text a few times a day now, mostly about UA and anxiety, the best combo.
We haven't seen each other since. We're probably going back to school in person in about a month, but I'm not sure. Nobody is.
I've called her my girlfriend on here before, simply because I don't know what we are. I joked the other day about how the youth leaders would react if I said I was texting my girlfriend.
Here's how that went:
So we're just jokingly married for now! It's a confusing pile of garbage but we both came out as lesbians the other day so that's a new development.
I don't know if any of that makes sense but I'll answer any questions anybody has :)

Best Beloved: Chapter 1
A/N: Hey y'all! This is a PM AU I’ve been working on. It’s a bit different than my previous fic series and I’m really excited to try something new. I hope y’all enjoy it. This story is told in dual first-person narrative, from Kaia (F!MC) and Damien’s POV. The first half of this story takes place during Kaia’s freshman year and Damien’s senior year of college. The second half is two years after Kaia graduates. There will be sprinklings of canon in this fic, but we’ll try to step out of the box for the most part. Thanks for reading, and please leave feedback, and/or if you would like to be tagged.
Synopsis: What happens when you find yourself crushing on your best friend? For years, Damien and Kaia have been friends, while secretly harboring feelings for one another. Everything changes one night after a little too much alcohol and years of pent up feelings. Can they control their emotions and salvage their friendship, or will the feelings they hold for one another destroy everything they have?
All characters are the property of Pixelberry Studios. Thanks for allowing me to borrow them.
Chapter Summary: It’s the first day of classes at Hartfeld University and that means meeting new faces.
Kaia
Six Years Ago
I raced across the courtyard of Hartfeld University, tugging my backpack higher on my shoulder. It was the first day of the new school year and class started in less than five minutes. Except I was all the way on the other end of campus. Whose bright idea was it to hold college classes at 8 a.m.? Way to make a good impression on the first day, Kaia.
That’s what I got for staying up until 2 a.m. the night before binge-watching episodes of America’s Most Eligible. In my defense, my roommate Victoria and I spent most of the evening getting to know each other. We discovered that we both love the show and are huge fans of Jakenzie. (That’s Jamie x Mackenzie for all you old folks out there.)
We also learned that we were both valedictorians of our respective high schools. So we spent most of the evening sharing stories of our childhood and teen years. We might have also played a few rounds of Truth or Drink. Hence why I was running late that morning. I didn’t even have time to stop at the campus coffee shop for caffeine and eye candy. What? The barista was a total babe.
I eyed the big clocktower near the library and saw that I only had two minutes left. I was pretty sure I wasn’t going to make it. I still had to make it to Clark Hall and climb the ninety-million stairs to the third floor.
After finally arriving at Clark and climbing the Mount Everest of staircases, I sucked in several deep breaths and burst through the doors of Professor O'Keeffe’s Composition 101 classroom at 8:03 a.m. The whole class turned and the professor eyed me exasperatedly as I slinked to the back of the room, waving a silent apology as I took a seat. She shook her head and continued going over the syllabus. I pulled my MacBook from my backpack and started taking notes, stopping occasionally to scan the room for signs of anyone I might have met at freshman orientation.
I spotted a girl who sat next to me. I think her name was Sloane. Looking like she just stepped off-campus at a prestigious prep school, she wore a blue long-sleeved turtleneck sweater with a plaid skirt and a gold necklace. I focused my attention between her and the professor, watching curiously as she dug around frantically in her laptop bag, pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose every time they slipped down. I spotted an empty seat next to her, so when the professor had her back turned, I gathered up my things, rose from my seat and moved over to the other side of the classroom.
“Hey!” I whispered as I took the seat next to her. She looked up from her bag and grinned when she noticed me.
“Hi, there! Kaia, right?” she asked, extending her hand. I nodded and shook it. “I’m Sloane. How’s your first day going?”
“Well, I was late for my first class and I haven’t had coffee. How’s yours?”
“I can’t find my phone charger. I know I packed an extra one, but it seems to have grown legs and walked off.” She continued shuffling through her backpack, her brows pinched in a V. Her unruly curls fell in her face and she brushed them away frustrated.
I dug through my bag, pulling two different phone charges from the side pocket. I held both of them up to her. “Which one do you need?”
Her eyes widened as she examined both chargers in my hand. Reaching for the Samsung charger, she mouthed a thank you and plugged the USB end into her laptop before plugging the other end into her phone. She glanced at my iPhone sitting face-down on my desk, then turned to me. “I gotta ask. Why do you have two different chargers?”
“My cousin Nadia is always losing hers, so I keep a spare on me just in case.”
She nodded and turned back to the front of the classroom, focusing on the professor. The rest of the class passed by uneventfully. When Professor O’Keeffe dismissed us at 8:50 a.m., Sloane and I gathered our things and walked out of the classroom together.
”Where are you off to next?” she asked, adjusting the strap on her bag.
“Intro to Sociology. You?”
”American Government. Gotta love those Gen Ed courses, ” she said with a laugh. “Wanna get lunch later? I have a free period after 11 a.m.”
“Sure. I’ll text my cousin and see if she wants to join us,” I said, pulling out my phone and shooting Nadia a text.
My cousin Nadia is quite the character. Our dads are brothers, but she and I are so close, people often asked if we were sisters. We grew up together, living three houses down from one another. Since we’re only six months apart, we were lucky enough to be in the same grade from kindergarten all the way through high school. Now, we’re privileged enough to attend the same college. I glanced at her text and shook my head.
Sloane and I exchanged phone numbers and I waved goodbye as we took off in opposite directions. I pulled out my campus map, trying to find Alexander Hall as I made my way across the courtyard to my next class. I wasn't looking where I was going when I accidentally slammed into a brick wall. Except it wasn't a brick wall.
“Whoa! Watch where you’re going!” a deep voice shouted as I immediately went flying backward onto the pavement, my phone and backpack crashing to the ground with me. The sound of breaking glass made me cringe. Well, shit. That’s going to be expensive.
“Are you okay?” his velvety voice probed. “You fell pretty hard.” He hooked his arms under mine and helped me to my feet, checking me for injuries. I released myself from his grip and bent over to pick up the rest of my belongings. I nodded a thank you and dusted off my black skirt, frowning when I saw the run in my pantyhose. I huffed as I picked up my phone and examined the shattered screen. I just got this damn thing in May. It was my present to myself for graduating from high school. Now, I have to pay to have it fixed.
I shoved it into my backpack and took a moment to study him. It only took a few seconds, but I immediately recognized him as my old friend Damien. My eyes widened as I realized who I had just crashed into. “Oh. My. Gods! It’s really you!” I said as I flung myself into his arms.
“You always were clumsy,” he laughed and squeezed his toned body against mine.
It had been four years since I saw him last. Damien and I were next-door neighbors and although he was four years older than me, we spent nearly every day hanging out. I had the hugest crush on him, even though he only saw me as a sister. After years of pining for him, I decided I was no longer going to hide how I felt. I stole two of his dad’s beers, chugged them in rapid succession, and went in search of the boy I’d loved since 7th grade.
We snuck away from his party and hid out at the playground down the street from our houses and about how much we would miss each other after he went away to college. There, under the jungle gym, I drunkenly confessed my feelings for him. That was also the first time I kissed him. After he gently pushed me off of him, he told me that he cared about me, but that I was only 15 and it was inappropriate for a guy his age to pursue me. I was so embarrassed, I ran away from him and hid out at my house for the rest of the night.
He came home for Christmas that winter but we didn’t get to see much of each other. Now that he was here in front of me after all this time, I realized how much he had changed since then. My eyes traveled the length of his denim-clad legs, past the black t-shirt stretching across the muscles of his broad chest, up to his face. He had the softest chocolate brown eyes, wavy brown hair, and warm tan skin. Just a hint of stubble peppered his chin and his defined jaw tensed as he watched me. His intense gaze made my cheeks tint pink.
“Yeah, sorry about that. Are you okay?” I replied. Of course, he was. He barely flinched when I all but plowed into him.
“I’m more worried about you. I’ve never given someone a concussion on the first day of classes before and I’m not looking to start.”
I rapped my knuckles against my temple. “You know me. I’ve got a thick skull. My phone on the other hand, well R.I.P.,” I said, miming pouring out a 40-oz for my now-broken handheld device. He chuckled and his brown eyes bored into mine, making me feel suddenly self-conscious.
“How have you been? How’s your first day going so far?”
“Well, I overslept and was late for my first class, I still haven’t had caffeine, and I bulldozed into a random guy with reckless abandon. So, I’d say it’s going well.”
He laughed again, the sound warming my insides. My eyes scanned his face, taking in his strong features. He was so pretty, I could cry. “So, where are you off to in such a hurry that you’re Miley Cyrusing people?”
“Oh, I’m trying to get to Alexander Hall. I missed out on the campus tour during freshman orientation, so I’m trying to find my way around.”
He took my map from my hand, his fingers brushing mine in the process. The sensation of his touch coursed through my entire body and I had to remind myself to breathe. He retrieved a pen from his backpack, pulling the cap off with his teeth. I’ve never wanted to be a pen cap so bad in my life.
“So, you are here,” he said, marking an “X” where we currently stood in front of Clark. “You’re going to want to keep on this path and head past the library, then take a left at the fork,” My eyes followed the line he drew along the paper. “And then you’ve reached your destination.” He circled the building in question and handed the map back to me, before capping his pen and slipping it back in his backpack.
I opened my mouth to ask him if he wanted to hang out later when a female voice pierced the air, interrupting us. “Babe, hurry up. We’re going to be late for Social Psych.”
Babe? I looked over his shoulder to see a woman with dark brown hair, full lips, and piercing brown eyes making our way toward us. She narrowed her eyes at me, then turned back to Damien, slipping her hand in the crook of his elbow and pressed a kiss to his jaw. He glanced at me apologetically as she pulled him toward Waterfield Hall.
“Be careful out there. And have fun this year. We'll get together soon,” he winked and gave me a wave as the two of them walked away toward their next class.
“Who was that?” I heard her ask, their voices fading with every step.
“Just an old friend,” he replied. My stomach sank. No matter how much I wanted us to be more, we never would be. I glanced at the courtyard and noticed the crowd thinning out, meaning the next block of classes would be starting shortly. I hitched my backpack on my shoulders and sighed deeply as I made my way to Alexander.

Damien
Alana’s nails gently scraped up and down my bicep as we sat in the lecture hall, listening to Professor Henderson drone on over the syllabus for this semester. Just two more to go and I’d be done with this place. Don’t get me wrong, I’d enjoyed my four years at Hartfeld, but I was ready to graduate and GTFO already.
Sophomore year was particularly hard. I almost dropped out halfway through fall semester after Dad passed away. Except Mom wouldn’t let me. She begged me to stick it out and made me promise to graduate. I couldn’t say no to her. Call me a mama’s boy if you must, but she’s the most important woman in my life and I couldn't bring myself to let her down. If we’re being honest here, I was doing it for me too. To be the first person in my family to graduate from college was a pretty big achievement.
I struggled to listen to the professor’s lecture, jotting down notes in my notebook. I should have been paying attention, but I had too much shit on my mind. Mainly my schedule for this semester. I needed to meet with my advisor after class and get my internship shit lined up. That’s what you get for waiting until the last minute, Dames. I pulled out my phone and shot a quick text to my advisor, asking if she had a free period this afternoon to get my paperwork filled out.
I looked to my right and saw Alana jotting notes in her notebook as her left hand still stroked my arm. I watched her for a few moments, taking her in. Alana and I met spring semester during our freshman year. We sat next to each other in Western Civ and our class discussion on long-standing issues in Western history turned into a full-blown shouting match. The professor pulled both of us out into the hallway and calmly explained to us that she would not allow that kind of behavior in her class. She then decided the best form of torture was to pair us up for the semester research project.
The first few weeks were hell. Alana and I disagreed on everything. Including the topic for our project. About halfway into the semester, she and I were studying in the library, when she asked me why I was — and I quote — “such a moody little bitch.” I told her she would be too if she had a pain in the ass like her for a partner. She laughed and told me how lucky I was to even be in the same vicinity as her. We exchanged jabs for a good ten minutes before she leaned over and kissed me. When I asked her what that was for, she replied that it was to shut me up.
Not going to lie, I was intrigued. She had a level of snark I had only seen from the women in my family. I knew I was in trouble, but there was just something about her that drew me to her. We began dating a week later and have been nearly inseparable ever since. Being that this was our senior year, I found myself wondering what would happen to us after graduation. I raised the topic of marriage once or twice over the last year, but she was always quick to shut me down. She insisted that she loved me, but didn’t think marriage was “for us.” I shook the thoughts from my mind and peeked at Alana from the corner of my eye. She was still focused on the professor. Good thing she couldn't read my mind.
My thoughts wandered to Kaia. It felt like a lifetime since we saw each other. She had grown up since then. I remembered the last things we said to each other before we parted the night of my grad party. She got drunk and told me she was in love with me. As much as I wanted to return her feelings, she and her cousin Nadia were like little sisters to me, which made the whole situation weird. Plus the whole age thing. I sighed and dragged my hand across my face, trying to clear my head. Before long, the hour was up and our professor released us. Alana and I gathered our things and linked hands as we made our way out of the lecture hall.
“I’ve got some free time before my noon class, so I'm going to head back to the dorms. You wanna come with me?” she said, batting those long lashes my way. My dick screamed yes, so I wrapped my arm around her shoulder and pressed a kiss to the spot behind her ear as we walked.
“As long as we’re back in time for my Interpersonal Comm class.”
She rolled her eyes. “I can't believe you, a senior, are taking a 200 level course. Why didn’t you take that class sophomore year?”
I shot her a look. She knew why. She was the one who stood by me during Dad’s illness. I was lucky I was able to finish most of my classes that semester. Interpersonal Communication is the only one I had to drop. So, here I was retaking the course so I could graduate with my full 120 credits.
“It is what it is,” I said as we walked back to the dorms. A few minutes later, we arrived at Richmond Hall where Alana lived. I waved to some guys I recognized from one of my classes last year and followed her inside, checking out her ass the entire time.
When we arrived at her room, she dropped her bag off at her desk and disappeared into the bathroom. I moved around her dorm, looking at the pictures of us on the wall. All the memories we shared in the last four years. The Winter Formal sophomore year. The summer before senior year at the Cape. Our trip to San Francisco junior year over Spring Break.
I rubbed the aching spot in my chest, remembering proposing to her on that trip. She looked like she wanted to throw up when I dropped to one knee in front of the Golden Gate Bridge. She covered her face in embarrassment and begged me to stand up. Confused, I asked her what she meant. She pulled me away from the gawking tourists shooting me sympathetic looks and explained that while she loved me, she wasn’t ready for marriage. I felt like the biggest idiot.
I was still looking at the photos when the bathroom door swung open and Alana strutted out, wearing nothing but a silk bathrobe. Ho-lee-shit. Pretty sure I died and went to heaven. She sauntered up to me and wrapped her arms around my neck, peppering my jawline with kisses. “Is this what you brought me to your dorm for?” I whispered in her ear, taking her lobe between my teeth.
“Mmm...This one is my favorite. Look how hot you are in your board shorts,” she said pointing to the photo of us at Cape Cod. She examined the photo wall while she casually slipped her hand down my pants. I snaked my arm around her waist and slid it down to her ass, which the robe barely covered. My eyes widened when I noticed she wasn’t wearing panties. I turned her around to face me, then grabbed her by the waist and tossed her on the bed. She squealed and reached up to grab my t-shirt, pulling it over my head. I dipped in and began to kiss her neck when my phone went off.
“Ignore it,” she panted, raking her fingernails up and down my back. I licked a trail from her earlobe down to her collarbone, peeling the robe open to expose her breasts. I kissed my way down the swell of her left breast when my phone went off again. I groaned and rolled off her, grabbing my phone from my back pocket, and saw two missed calls from my advisor.
“Shit. I gotta take this babe. Gimme a sec.”
“Are you fucking serious?” she huffed and pulled the robe closed. I grabbed my t-shirt off the floor and slipped it on before stepping out of her room into the hallway. I pulled up my missed calls and hit the redial button. Dr. Griffin picked up on the first ring.
“Mr. Nazario. I’m glad you called back. I have a free period now if you’re available to go over your internship paperwork.”
I sighed and raked a hand through my hair. I really needed to get my internship taken care of so I could get credit for my work, but my girl was on the other side of the door, half-naked and waiting for me. Waging a war with my thoughts, I decided that I’d have to make it up to Alana tonight.
“I’ll be there in ten minutes,” I told her, then hung up the phone. I steeled myself for the difficult conversation I was about to have with Alana and made my way back into the dorm room. She sat on the bed, a scowl on her face as she looked at her phone.
“Hey, babe. That was Dr. Griffin. I need to go get my internship paperwork taken care of.” Alana rolled her eyes and muttered under her breath. I moved in front of her and leaned over until we were at eye level. “I promise I’ll make it up to you tonight. Okay?”
She glared at me, not saying anything. I gripped her chin between my thumb and forefinger and pressed a kiss to her lips. She didn’t pull away, so I knew she wasn’t that mad. I kissed her once more before I turned and headed out of her room.
I made my way out of the dorm and shot her an apology text as I headed across campus to Dr. Griffin’s office. The grey text bubbles popped up, then disappeared a few times, before she replied, “K.” I sighed and slipped my phone in my jeans pocket. I couldn’t blame her though She was mad because she felt I hadn't been the most reliable boyfriend, but if I knew her like I thought I did, she’d get over it. Either that or I’d have blue balls for the next week.

Crushed.
I’d been dating Marcus Simmons since before either of us were actually allowed to date. We met in first grade when Mrs. Donner’s seating chart placed us next to each other since my last name is Simmons, too. Throughout elementary school we sat next to each other and because boys were eww until 7th grade I barely talked to him. Well, that’s not completely true. I regularly told him to shut up since he teased me relentlessly. As I learned later, teasing is an elementary school boy’s way of flirting. And apparently the more annoyed someone is about the teasing, the more they do it. Needless to say, he teased me a lot.
When junior high came around we moved classes every hour and with the exception of Mr. Gill’s Advanced English class, we didn’t have alphabetical seating charts. I had three classes with Marcus every day but only sat next to him in English and when that class arrived at the end of our first day in the new school I found I was actually excited to see him. I’d missed the familiarity of him being next to me and weirdly, I’d missed his teasing.
“Hey, Monica,” he said as he slid into the seat next to me at the table.
“Marcus, hi!” I knew immediately that I was too excited but if he noticed, he didn’t let on.
“How’s the first day been?”
“Good I guess...weird...you?”
“Same I guess...it’s nice to see a friendly face.”
I smiled and felt warm all over, which was a new feeling that I didn’t know if I liked.
When the first dance of the year arrived a month or so later we’d been talking a lot more, walking together to our lockers after English and doing a lot more flirting than teasing. We met at the gym after being dropped off by our respective parents and danced most of the night together. That’s the night he kissed me for the first time, and while it wasn’t anything to write home about, just a quick peck on the lips, it’s a night I’ll never forget.
We were boyfriend and girlfriend from then on and while there were ups and downs and times we both thought we should call it quits, we actually made it to our senior year. I hadn’t seen Marcus since early in the summer because we both had family vacations and various camps and programs, not to mention jobs, that kept us busy up until the first day of school. Sure, we’d talked on the phone and via text, but I hadn’t seen his face in over two months and I was giddy as I waited by my locker, which I assumed was next to his, as it had been since junior high.
The first bell rang to alert us that class was starting in five minutes, and I couldn’t understand why I hadn't seen him yet. I’d sent him several texts but he hadn’t responded so I figured he’d left his phone at home or in the car, something he’d been doing more and more of late. When the second bell rang I had to sprint through the halls to avoid being late to my first class of the last year of high school.
We’d planned our schedules at the end of the prior year and I knew Marcus wasn’t going to be in my first period History class. I was disappointed that I hadn’t seen him yet but knew he was in second period Calculus with me so I tried to focus and count down the minutes until I saw him.
I said hi to other friends as I got seated, with two full minutes to spare, but noticed that several people were looking at me through their side eye and I couldn’t imagine what was going on. When my best friend Lisa walked in everyone looked at her then me and back at her. I waved at her and pointed to the seat next to me but she looked away and took a seat up front. “Okay, what the hell?” I said, a little too loud. A minute later a stranger walked in and thankfully everyone began staring at him as he walked to the only empty seat in the room, the one next to me.
“Okay, everyone,” Ms. Paul started as she walked in. “Do you like who you’re sitting by? Good. Because that’s your study and project partner for the year.” I’d been looking forward to doing my projects with Lisa but when I tried to get her attention to switch seats she turned away and I sunk down in the chair and tried not to cry.
“Sorry, did you want to sit with someone else?” The stranger’s voice was gentle and soothing as he whispered near my ear. I turned and looked into his eyes, his gorgeous blue eyes that sparkled as I stared. A few seconds passed before I shook my head and wiped a tear that escaped down my cheek. “Are you okay?”
“Fine,” I lied.
“I’m Nick.”
He smiled and put out his hand and I swear his eyes got even brighter as his dimples appeared. “Monica,” I breathed as I took his hand.
“It’s nice to meet you, Monica.”
My hand fit perfectly in his but I pulled it away quickly as it seemed like I was feeling far too much about a person I didn’t know and as far as I knew, I was still very much in a relationship with Marcus.
“Um, nice to meet you, too,” I rambled.
“Okay, so I’m passing around the syllabus and by the end of the week I want to know the topic of your first project, which will be due in six weeks.” A collective groan rose throughout the room but it was shut down quickly by Ms. Paul when she told us to pull out our books then started lecturing.
I felt another tear find its way out of the corner of my eye and just as I was wiping it away, Nick glanced over. I turned quickly but a few seconds later he pushed his notebook toward me and tapped it with his pen. I looked down and saw that he’d written Are you okay? then put Yes and No check boxes underneath. I couldn’t help but smile as I picked up my own pen and added another box underneath. I’m not sure but it’s sweet of you to ask. I drew a happy face then pushed the notebook back to him. He smiled then wrote something else.
I’m a pretty good listener...
We’re in class...
We could walk to our next class together...I’ve got calc, you?
I turned and tilted my head as I looked at him. He raised his eyebrows and shrugged his shoulders, as if to ask me what my deal was.
Okay.
I pushed the notebook back then refocused on Ms. Paul and jotted down some brief notes before the end of class. It wasn’t easy, as all I was thinking about was what was going on with Lisa and why everyone had been looking at me with weird faces. I was also still trying to figure out why I hadn’t seen or heard from Marcus.
When class ended I tried to get to Lisa but she moved quickly and when I realized I couldn’t reach her I sat down and shook my head. Nick sat down across from me and that’s when I felt my phone vibrate. “Marcus,” I whispered as I pulled it from my pocket. I smiled when I saw his name.
Marcus: We need to talk.
Me: Where were you this morning? I thought we were meeting?
Marcus: Couldn’t. Meet you by the gym at lunch.
Me: I can talk now, before calc.
Marcus: Schedule changed. Lunch.
Me: What? Why? What’s going on?
Marcus: Lunch, okay?
Me: Okay.
“We should probably go.” I looked up and saw Nick standing next to me with my bag in his hand. I felt like I was in some sort of shock. I nodded as I stood then took my bag and slung it across my body. “At the risk of sounding redundant, are you okay?”
I blinked my eyes and shook my head as the tears fell.
“Good listener, remember?” He smiled as he pointed toward his chest and I smiled as more tears fell.
The next period’s students started coming in so I started walking and Nick followed quickly. I didn’t say anything because why was I going to bare my soul to a complete stranger. He didn’t push, which I appreciated, and it was actually nice to have someone to walk with since everyone was still staring at me and very few people were saying hi. Their eyes looked at me with sadness or something that I could only define as pity.
The next two periods moved slower than the calendar when Christmas is getting close and I was actually thankful that Nick was in both the Calculus and Chemistry classes with me. During Chem I told him that I had to meet someone for lunch then gave him my number so we could check in later about our History project. He shared his number as well and I thanked him for being so nice. We’d already figured out that with the exception of choir in the afternoon we had the same schedule. I had a free period where I worked in the office when he would be singing tenor with our award-winning choir.
As soon as Chemistry ended I bolted toward the gym so I could figure out what was going on with Marcus and maybe figure out what was up with Lisa at the same time. When I got to the gym they were huddled together looking a little bit too cozy for two people who weren’t dating. I watched for a few seconds before I cleared my throat and startled both of them. It was so cliche, my boyfriend and my best friend betraying me together.
“We didn’t mean for it to happen,” Lisa explained. “But you know, we were in that program and...”
“And you just felt like you could betray me by hooking up with the only guy I’ve ever loved?”
“It wasn’t like that,” Marcus interjected.
“Says the cheater,” I snapped and crossed my arms in front of my body.
“We didn’t mean to hurt you,” he continued.
“Oh well, since you didn’t mean to hurt me...” I took a few deep breaths as I glared at them then continued. “Neither of you speak to me ever again.”
“Monica,” Lisa pleaded, but I’d already turned around and started walking away.
“Let her go.” His whisper made me cringe and while I knew I shouldn’t have looked back I couldn’t help myself. He’d pulled her into his arms and was comforting her as she cried.
“Unbelievable!” I cried. “You could at least wait ‘till I’m out of sight.” I wasn’t paying attention as I walked sideways and backward and ran right into the door jamb, which made my nose bleed and my head hurt like crazy. “Perfect,” I grumbled and didn’t wait for them to get to me even though I heard them both ask if I was okay.
I ran to the nurse’s office and nearly knocked Nick over in the hall. “Hey, are you...?”
“If you ask me if I’m okay one more time...” I turned to him and his wide eyes told me just how bad I looked.
“Oh god, Monica, what happened?”
As I stared at him I started to feel woozy and a moment or two later I was falling toward him. When I came to in the nurse’s office, thanks to some old-fashioned smelling salts, Nick was sitting next to me and the nurse was calling my mom.
“No, I’m not okay,” I said even though he hadn’t asked me again.
“I can see that. How can I help?”
“I just need to get home.”
He nodded but didn’t make any kind of move to leave. “Did you get any lunch?” I shook my head and he reached into his backpack and pulled out an apple. “An apple a day, right?”
He smiled and I couldn’t help but do the same as I took the fruit from his hands. “Thanks.” I took a bite and honesty, it was the best apple I’d ever tasted in my life. “Why are you being so nice to me?”
“I’m a nice guy,” he grinned and I was going to continue the conversation but the nurse turned back toward us.
“Right, so your mum is on her way, love, and you can rest here until she arrives.” Nurse Lynn was more like a British nanny than a nurse, which is why I adored her. “Now, young man, are you staying or going?” Nick looked at me and I shrugged my shoulders, not knowing what more to do.
“Staying? I think?”
“Right, so I’ll get you a pass into your class once Miss Simmons’ mum arrives. Now I have to go to a quick meeting with the vice principal; can I trust you two to behave?”
“Yes, ma’am,” Nick answered and I nodded as I felt that same warm and fuzzy feeling come over me again.
Once she was gone Nick looked at me and smiled. “No pressure, but like I said...” He put his hand on his chest. “Good listener.”
I sighed and nodded my head. “Fine.” He was clearly pleased with himself based on how his smile got bigger. “Apparently I’m a complete fool. My best friend - the girl from History this morning...” He nodded. “She's apparently been hooking up with my boyfriend all summer and I was the very last person in the entire school to know.”
“Well that’s not entirely true,” he said, his eyes filled with the same pity I’d seen in my friends earlier. “I mean I didn’t know.”
“Very funny.”
“I’m just saying, if you’re going to throw out things like ‘entire school’ you just need to be clear.” He was funny and I needed to laugh more than he probably knew.
“Who are you and how did you happen to cross my path today?”
“I am Nicholas Vance Young, Junior, son of Nicholas Vance Young, Senior and Marilyn Louise Atkinson Young. I have one older sister who lives in France and twin cousins who share my birthday. We moved here because of my dad taking over Western Bank, and being the new kid in senior year absolutely sucked until I saw you.” I felt the blush on my cheeks and wondered if he was some sort of angel. “And you are?”
“Monica Louise Simmons.” We both turned as my mother walked in, grinning as if she’d walked in on something. Nick stood up and walked toward her then introduced himself and shook her hand.
“I better get back to class,” he said as he turned back toward me. “Can I call you later?”
“I’d like that.” He nodded and winked. “And thanks again.”
“My pleasure.”
He seemed like an angel, someone God purposely put in all my classes to save me from the pain of being cheated on by the boy I thought was my soulmate. I didn’t know what future was out there for me, for Nick, for me and Nick, but I knew it was a little brighter because he was in it.
