I'm not an artist so I don't know how to give you the best constructive criticisms. All I can say is may be increasing the side of the legs to make them look more stables (Especially the feet). May be some kibbles in the back to make mecha have the angle wings...
For You, I Want to Sing, but I Have No Mouth
A ShockOp plot outline/scenario ideas using songs based on @keferon Mech Pilot AU
This pairing has been eating me alive so I decided to write so I don't have to bottle it up any longer. Enjoy this New Year's gift 🎁
DISCLAIMER: The characterizations are mainly based on collective and selective headcanons and personal views and understanding. Some OCs will be included. Don't take them too seriously.
Also, some songs I skimmed from my playlist will be referenced for scenarios that are brought to mind, not in order of events. I just love the 'what ifs' and what happened in between for this pairing. If there's nothing after a song, then the scenario(s) is self-explanatory.
Using music just helps the creative process you know. There'll be more additions as I straighten my thoughts out.
Est-ce que tu m’aimes - GIMS (the translated lyrics speak for themselves)
Look Around - Under the Boardwalk (it’s a cute song and it could be akin to the Open Arms scenarios)
Run to Me - Clarence Coffe Jr.
Oh My Love - The Score (Orion’s POV)
Would You Fall in Love with Me - EPIC: The Ithaca Saga (Odysseus as SW, Penelope as Orion; probably when they meet in the afterlife or something)
LET THE WORLD BURN - Chris Grey
We Become We - Journey to Bethlehem
Raise This Barn - My Little Pony (A big stretch but this is where the imagination and headcannons comes in. Shockwave was an orphan for a while til he was adopted by a pair of farmers, Leonard and Tommy [their names are a reference to real life things and people pertaining to TF]. The farm was his home, even when he went off to pursue his studies in the city, he might not be big on people but he holds his family close enough. Rebuilding after a certain natural disaster brings him home, which knocks out having a family gathering for the next decade cause that’s a lot of relatives he won’t remember but to help his dads is all that matters, especially in their old age)
Can't Help Falling in Love - Kina Grannis
To Build A Home - Patrick Watson (during some quiet moments on the farm when he brings Orion for some fresh air from the that place, Shockwave taking a moment to breathe too, maybe showing his dads’ cows too, Fluffy Ears hitting it off with Orion, watching from the side sending looks at him, oh does his heart get lighter when he returns the same look through eyes that cling to all the hope in the world for the both of them, he pitied and envied for those eyes, at least in a way they were his)
Die With A Smile - Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars (there was no way either of them could, this world doesn’t allow such a luxury, but maybe in another universe, another life)
More Than You Know - Axwell /\ Ingrosso (for the both of them)
Open Arms - EPIC: Cyclops Saga (could symbolize their contrasting outlooks, open arms for a more optimistic future in spite of their situation even for a moment, cause what’s the point if you don’t stop to smell the flowers and admire the stars)
Fix You - Coldplay or Danny Olson & Jadelyn
We'll Meet Again - maruwhat
A Million Miles Away - Belle (from Orion's ghost to Shockwave)
Yuri on ICE - Taro Umebayashi
Magic - Sia (stargazing outside of the mech or outside in the wilderness, where for now the world consists of him Orion and the stars above, but it goes unsaid that they’re each other’s whole world, for better and for worse)
The Line - Twenty One Pilots (they feel JayVik coded to me, like if Viktor survived but couldn’t revive Jayce or something like that)
Happy Ending / Sewer Home - TMNT Mutant Mayhem (some form of happy ending, it feels out of place but they're together at last, somehow)
Wu Ji - Xiao Zhan & WANG YIBO (the YEARNING)
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - Scarlett Johansson & Bono
DREAM BOY Album - Morgan Clae
Count Me In - Liv and Maddie
Fantastic - King Princess (iykyk)
Until I Found You - Stephen Sanchez
KISS OF DEATH - Mika Nakashima (pilots with giant mechs, codependency stuff and romance and angst in and out of the cockpit)
Great Balls of Fire - Miles Teller (rare moment of Shockwave singing in the hometown bar, Orion was there singing along with his arms around him, a little bit drunk; Orion might not be able to sing as well later on down the line from deteriorating lung damage, doesn’t mean he won’t get to hear Shockwave sing to him every now and then)
Beautiful Things - Benson Boone
I Think We're Alone Now - Tiffany (that one time they fooled around in the cockpit, luckily no one was there to witness, or not)
More Than Anything (Reprise) - Hazbin Hotel (moments of comfort and reassurance after a trying test or battle)
Good Old Days - Macklemore & Kesha (reminiscing)
Classic - MKTO (Orion’s POV again)
Independent Together - Caleb Hyles & CG
Carnaval Del Barrio - In the Heights (morality at a low but a musical number does wonders, even to progress their relationship)
Accidentally In Love - Counting Crows (Orion’s POV again, cause he fell first and hard)
Had I Not Seen the Sun - Robin, Chevy (post-battle moment, surviving another day, )
~~~~~
Headcannons and scenarios (I know most of these are not as angsty but the lot of you can make it up tenfold so how about some more soft stuff):
- For living in civilization for all his life, Orion isn’t up to date with the ‘pop culture’ but at least he has Shockwave to show him the good tunes, like classical and synth
- That one time when Orion got him a stuffed cow teddy with a recording of Fluffy Ears’s moos for his birthday. Since when did he have the time to acquire he still doesn’t know
- In their mech, they’re a beast on the battlefield. It might not have been amazing compared to the current mechs and pilots, but they’ve lasted this far with just the two of them for a reason. Got a marksman’s eye and the strength to rip the faces off those tentacled fuckers. Sometimes Orion forgets to take it down a notch outside the battlefield.
- Afters years of piloting evolving mechs, it takes a toll on the both of them, especially for Orion. Fatigue and back pains riddle him, along with a certain accident that caused him to wear a mask to not further damage his lungs. It also made his voice more deep with a certain timbre that gives Shockwave a soothing feeling compared to Orion youthful and lighter voice before.
- When Shockwave isn’t in piloting, he’d be in a lab overseeing the other operations on mech tech and poking at the Quintesson corpses. Orion had Ironhide to converse with and try as he might, he hasn’t had a chance to successfully evade Ratchet hawk like supervision. When Shockwave was working on the down times from attacks, there would be a myriad of medical tests and checks that would be at best tedious and “unpleasant” at worst. Post-medical exam cuddles are mandatory for them, behind closed doors of course.
===
I’ll add more when I’ve gathered my thoughts and straightened them out. You have other songs for them or any other headcannons for Shockwave and/or Orion Pax, share what additions you have for these tragic old gays.
Hey, thank you for checking out my art commission post!
Commissions and Patreon and Ko-Fi are my only source of income right now, and every dollar helps me pay the rent, keep the lights and internet on, and (very important!) keep coffee pot full. ♥
First, a very important announcement:
Commission prices and guidelines have been revised as of 2/6/2020. All previous versions of my art commission guidelines are outdated, and will not be honored*.
*I want to make the changes here as fairly as possible, so anybody who contacted me about a commission before 2/6/2020 will still get the old prices for that commission, even if I haven’t responded to you yet. All commissions I am contacted about on or after this date will adhere to the new guidelines and pricing.
Why The Changes?
It’s become an annual thing for me to review and update my art commission guidelines, because after a year I can see that some items never get ordered and some prices are too low for the amount of time I’m spending working on them.
The prices haven’t changed much this year, and anything that has gone up, it’s because I’ve been doing commissions that involved those things and took me much longer than I thought they would. Price changes are not done to gouge anybody, but to try and be fair to myself for how hard I’m working.
As ever, I’m so grateful to everyone who has ever helped support me and my work – sincerely, thank you! ♥
Without further ado, onward, to the art!
Commission Conditions
Commissions provided in digital form only. I post commissioned art on my art blog and on Twitter with the name of who commissioned it – if you don’t want to be tagged by name or need to hold off the posting (say, for surprise birthday present art), please let me know. High-res file copies of commissioned art are provided on request, no extra charge. Payment is required before I begin to work.
I retain the copyright to my work. Under no conditions are you to sell it, print it to sell, repost it without credit to me as the artist, or claim it as your own work.
Revisions will be done within reason if you aren’t absolutely happy with the work (but that’s what I’m aiming for on the first try. ♥) If in doubt, please message me and we’ll work it out!
Payment Info
All prices are in US dollars, and I accept payments through PayPal. All I need is your PayPal email address, and I’ll send you an invoice of what commission item(s) we discussed, the price, the date and other important information in minutes. Once the invoice arrives, you can use PayPal to pay it in a few clicks.
I switched to invoices because it helps me track my earnings/tax info, as well as being a proof of a commission agreement between us. It protects everybody involved. ♥
How to Contact Me:
If you’re interested in an art commission, you can contact me any of these ways:
Send me an email at [email protected] with the subject line “Threshasketch Art Commission”
Toss me a Tumblr ask / messenger message
Send me a direct message on my Twitter
I’m usually around and will get back to you as quick as I can. Actual art-making turnaround time is pretty speedy, but really depends on whether the commission is complicated or simple.
I usually have a queue of commissions lined up, and I work on them in the order they were paid for. Please expect several weeks at the minimum for me to reach your place in the queue and create your art. Let me know if you have a specific time frame you need me to work within, and I’ll be sure I can meet that requirement before taking the commission on!
Think This Post Is Long Enough? Cripes.
If you’d just like to support my work and don’t have a specific art request in mind (fhdsfkdhdsk), you could buy me a Ko-Fi as a tip or become a Patron on Patreon as a monthly type of thing. (If you’re already a Patron, bless you and I love you to pieces!)
Congrats, you made it to the bottom of the post! Thank you for your interest in my art, hope the rest of your day is awesome! ♥♥♥
EVENT REPORT ~APCC Shoji Kawamori's Workshop: THE CREATION - Songs, Transformation and Deculture Shock-
AsiaPOP Comicon Manila 2017 brought a lot of special guest and I was really thrilled that they invited Shoji Kawamori as one of their guest. Fans were able to meet him personally and have their merchandise signed at his booth at the Hall of Fame area. I was lucky enough to have my Macross items signed by him on Saturday morning because the line grew longer and longer the whole day and even on Sunday! The highlight of his visit in Manila was his workshop which happened on last Sunday, August 27th. I'm glad to share some highlights of this workshop.
The workshop started with an image of Megumi Nakajima. Kawamori-san mentioned that the artist has Filipino lineage and praised her for being a great artist. With the help of a translator, he gave us a brief biography of himself. He was born in Toyama, Japan. His father was an engineer and deeply influenced him. As a child, he nurtured his creative mind by playing Fischertechnik or German Block. He also showed a photo of the design he made as a kid.
He started drawing pretty late and sometimes have difficulty in drawing. Character designer, Haruhiko Mikimoto is his best friend since high school. He said that Mikimoto was the one who made Lynn Minmay's design. He also shared this college experiences. Kawamori said "When I was in college, during lunch time, we (with Mikimoto) always talk about Macross and have a meeting with what we will do with it in the future. Eventually, my professor found out what we were doing and kicked my ass out." He also mentioned that he worked part time for animation studio during high school and college and it help him stay in the industry for 40 years. Aside from mecha designing, he also do concept making, story writing and other multiple job.
After that, a short media presentation was shown as an introduction for Kawamori's past works and projects. Kawamori-san talked about how to make concepts and applying it. He mentioned that the important detail of this creation is it's originality. There are 2 things to remember in concept creation: first is Inventive Originality, which is creating something out of nothing and second is Unique personality. Changing your point of view is important as well. He mentioned, "Sometimes you need to see things in different angles to create". He said that it's like going up on the tree where your view changes every time you go up and your view is also different when you are looking at the tree itself. He also showed how he turned a tape dispenser into a space ship.
youtube
Kawamori also mentioned that he and Kazutaka Miyatake were colleagues before and had competition in animation. Miyatake worked as a mechanical designer for Space Battleship Yamato. Kawamori-san said that he challenged Miyatake but he was defeated for a year. So, what he did was he asked for a vacation from his company and went skiing where he got inspiration for creating Gerwalk. (his main inspiration was how people bend their knees to ski and how you slide in the snow).
Upon creating Gerwalk, he presented the design to his company, at the same time, Miyatake-san presented a new design, similar to what he has. The only difference was Miyatake's design has 4 legs. Kawamori-san said that in animation, simple designs are needed. Since Miyatake-san has 4 legs and Gerwalk has only 2, he won that round. He also mentioned that it was hard to sell his design before because it was the era of humanoid robot designs. Even his company said, they need to make humanoid robot. Creating Diaclone Car Robot was his first 6-month project, which became the design for Transformers the first generation. He mentioned that he found it funny that when robot transforms the chair, the interior and even the machine is gone. So in his next design, he wanted it to be realistic where the cockpit and engine were still there.
He looked back on the manga he created with his friends back in highschool. He mentioned that it was the first creation of Macross, where there was a robot with multiple forms and functions.
His father also took him to military bases and Aircraft f14 became his favorite. He said that while observing the aircraft, he noticed that there are some space in between the aircraft and maybe he can put some arms there. At first, he designed the arms above the aircraft then later placed it in the sides. For creating designs, he used to work on papercraft but now he uses lego to create new designs.
People always tell him that aircrafts won't sell but his motto is "When someone disapproves your idea, it means there's a big chance in it!" So, whenever his boss, tells him no, he still push with his idea. When he heard Lynn Minmay singing in Super Dimension Fortress Macross TV series, he got an idea of "solving war using songs". The only problem was when he present this idea, they (his bosses) immediately said no and said singing songs will not solve the war. But he still pursued his idea and will take full responsibility for it. Since he was still in university when making the anime and took all the responsibility with it, they kicked him out.
He also mentioned he feels bad for professionals copying work of others that's why he created animation that no one will copy. So, he taught "What If I design a pilot who is also singing? He just there singing but not fighting." Thus, Basara Nekki (Macross 7) was created. Basara's guitar was the mecha's maneuver and he sings while moving the mecha. He also mentioned a fan who told him that "why is your pilot singing, you idiot!" and after couple of months, he let Basara shot a missile and that fan said "Why is he shooting missiles now?!"
He also shared his experience riding an aircraft. He said that the experience was very different when you are playing a pilot game. Inside the aircraft, you can see everything and in time, the gravity goes to your neck. What he experienced and saw, he applied it in Macross Plus. She also talked about Sharon Apple. His director told him that a computer cannot sing and make music. But today, we got Miku Hatsune, he said. He also mentioned the projection mapping idea he used for Macross Plus and after couple of years, projection mapping became reality. After Macross Plus, he showed visuals for his other works like Macross Zero, Macross Frontier and Macross Delta. He also announced the upcoming Macross Delta film and his upcoming next project. Kawamori said that further details and official announcement for the new project will be announced this October. The teaser trailer was showed to the audience as well and told everyone that this is just the 2nd time he showed this.
youtube
He also gave the audience a chance to ask questions. I'm glad that someone did ask if he's going to make a movie/anime about the fate of Megaroad 01 and it's location. He answered that he still thinking about it and what will happen but eventually he will work on it. Someone also asked about Lady M's connection to Lynn Minmay and if she will be there in the upcoming Macross Delta film, he didn't give a definite answer but he loved how fans are creative in ideas about the series. The workshop ended with a group selfie with everyone making the Walkure sign. It was a fun workshop and everyone had a blast! Thank youso much APCC for bringing the master here.
