Etiquette Lessons
@writingmask Hope you enjoy your gift!
Alfred Pennyworth has a lot of jobs in the Wayne Manor—some stranger than others. One that falls to him with each new addition in the house: etiquette training. As a butler, this shouldn’t be a difficult lesson. Because this is Wayne’s brood, it is an…experience.
“Master Richard, flipping off the stairs to make an entrance is not acceptable at a Gala. Nor is using the chandeliers as a trapeze; you are not the dinner entertainment.”
“Master Jason, kindly return the silverware to the table instead of your pocket. I am happy to find you something else to…hold on to rather than my silver dining set.”
“Master Timothy, this is an informal event. While proper manners are a sign of good breeding, the formality is laying it on a bit thick.”
“Master Damian, knives are for cutting your food. You will not need to assassinate your dinner partner.”
“Master Duke, simply ignore anything else your family does at the dinner table and you will do just fine.”
And now there’s a new teen sitting at the dining table, being instructed on etiquette for formal events.
“Master Danny, you do not need to spear your meatloaf as if this is a jousting match. Try adjusting your hold to wrap around the handle like so, instead.” Alfred holds up his own utensil to demonstrate.
Danny Fenton, the most recent addition hanging around Wayne Manor, does not look convinced.
“It is not going to come alive and bite you,” Alfred tries again.
“Shows what you know.”
The grumble is low enough he’s not supposed to hear it, so Alfred lets it pass. It’s certainly not the worst thing grumbled at him during family lessons.
Danny stabs his meatloaf with the correct grip while massacring it with the accompanying knife.

THE RONNIE ECKER MOTHERFUCKIN BREAKDOWN (fast and dirty version)
for @mopeymopeymouse and anyone else who hasn't read flight of icarus + fair warning, my ronnie is a little canon divergent probably? a touch more chaotic than what we're given in FOI anyway
so okay, here's the official backstory
ronnie is obviously no durrr a resident of forest hills trailer park who befriended eddie when they were eight years old. she moves to the trailer park after her dad passes away and her mom gets institutionalized. she lives with her granny, a woman that's hard as nails but soft in the middle (see: keeping wayne munson in turkey casseroles), a woman that loves a goddamned M*A*S*H rerun (baby don't we all).
ronnie is a lot like her granny in that way; a touch more on the goofier side of toughness, but that doesn't stop her from putting eddie munson in his place when she needs to. especially after the time in seventh grade when he'd tried to kiss her, like fucking gross dude what the fuck was that! a little noodling on that made ronnie realize she didn't have crushes the way other people had crushes. she might not even have them at all.
a little more on the official side-- she's corroded coffin's first drummer (that's right, gareth emerson, you're filling some big motherfucking shoes), she's a founding member of hellfire club and in 1984, she gets a full ride to NYU. she's tall as shit. she wears overalls and baseball caps (looking like, quoth eddie munson, 'the ghost of a tiny farmer' when she was a kid). she's ride or die. she's cool as hell. she's going places.
ronnie ecker is also scared as all hell to go places because, yeah, she's got the smarts and she might even have the nerve but does she have the wherewithal to hold it all together? she doesn't fucking know! there are a lot of nights she spends freaking out in the bathroom mirror, wondering how close of a genetic scrape her mom's mental illness is. wondering how much the fact that she's from a trailer park will help or hinder her progression in, like, the real world. wondering if she can stay upright if she makes a break from this town without her twin pillar, her brother in bullshit, eddie munson next to her. wondering, y'know. just... wondering.
she's got this facade of nerdy anxiety that drops pretty quickly once she's a) got a set of drumsticks in her hands or b) at that hellfire table or c) fucked with and then you'll see that, yeah, she is all nerve. white hot and wicked, goofy and gorgeous and cool as the moon, with a huge mouth and a stupid, dirty sense of humor.
it might be ronnie ecker vs the world. but she is gonna make it in spite of all that.

21 Batman Facts For The Die Hard Fans
No doubt that there have been a lot of fictional characters that sparked our imagination. And, some of them became very popular for decades, as different generations have been following them. One of the best examples is the character of Batman.
Millions of viewers and readers became addict fans who regularly checked every bit of information about the ‘Bats’. But, other than information about Bruce Wayne as the secret identity of Batman, and that he doesn’t own any superpowers, here are some interesting facts that perhaps you may not know about Batman or his background.
  en.wikipedia.org
Batman Followers Killed Robin
In the storyline “Death in the Family”, Robin was tricked by his biological mother by turning him over to The Joker. However, both the mother and Robin were captured by The Joker, and held them as bait so that Batman would come to save the day and rescue them. This spine-chiller scene encouraged the DC comics to ask the audiences if the sidekick’s outcome, should he die or stay alive. A count of 5,343 fans voted to get Robin killed in that scene. Furthermore, he reappeared in the 2005’s episode to take revenge against The Joker.
Frank Sinatra Wished To Have The Role “The Joker”
Batman TV show had prospered during 1960’s so much that even the famous singer Frank Sinatra asked to play the role of The Joker. Unfortunately, the role was already given to Cesar Romero. This was a bit of a disappointment to Frank, but say the saying goes; ‘the show must go on’.

Batman Used A Machine Gun
Part of Batman’s character he does not use real guns and bullets to kill people. But, in the 1939 original Batman comic, he killed some of the henchmen of Hugo Strange using a machine gun. Check this out in the Batman comic issue #1 for this scene.
It’s Not True That He Doesn’t Kill People
Same as in 1939 original Batman comics, Batman had killed a number of criminals. One specific scene is when he broke the neck of the Cossack by kicking his head through a window.
  Robin Supposed To Appear Once
Supposedly, Robin should only be in an issue as a market strategy trial of Bob Kane. As a matter of fact, editor Jack Liebowitz opposed to this idea, thinking that Batman is way better without a sidekick kid. But surprisingly, the sales of the comic issue where Robin is introduced, doubled. So, the character of Robin stayed in the following issues.

Batman Got To See Hitler
Fighting against the Nazi had been common to the superheroes during World War II. Though Batman was able to fight Nazis when they came to Gotham City, but he only got to meet Adolf Hitler once. On the cover of World’s Finest#9, Batman and his friends are throwing tennis balls at Der Fuhrer.
  en.wikipedia.org
The Director Of The First Batman Film Was Andy Warhol
Even without DC Comics’ consent, a non-sound black and white film of Batman Dracula had been aired as part of an exhibition in 1964, before the 1966 Batman film. It was produced and directed by Andy Warhol. It was not publicly released but some scenes were used in a 2006 documentary film.
Batman’s Cape Was Inspired By One Of Da Vinci’s Creations
While some parts of Batman’s costume were based from the radio character The Shadow, his wings’ design was ideally taken from the Ornothopter flying vehicle of Leonardo Da Vinci.
  www.amusingplanet.com
Batman Really Exists
Though it is not pronounced as the “Batman” character, in marvelous Turkey, there exists a town called Batman. Huseyin Kalakan, standing mayor of the city Batman, almost filed a case against the Warner Bros. for not asking permission for using the name.
Bruce Wayne Was Named After The Names Of Remarkable Men
Bruce Wayne originated from the names of two significant people. The name Bruce was from the national hero of the Scottish people, while Wayne was taken from the Americans’ hero Mad Anthony Wayne. No doubt this is why Batman is a total badass superhero, right? With such great names comes great responsibility.
Gotham City Was Taken From A Jewelers
Naming characters and places of Batman Comics is definitely challenging. It took passion, time and artistry. Believe it or not, Gotham city was unexpectedly created through scanning a phone book? Bill Finger took it from the name “Gotham Jewelers”.
  www.smosh.com
Batman And Wolverine Combined
In 1996, Batman was merged with Wolverine. The merged created a character called Dark Claw or Logan Wayne. After seeing his parents murdered, Logan Wayne was sent to an orphanage run by nuns in Canada. He was then given to the Weapon X project where he became a mutant.
Bruce Wayne Has A Shocking $7 Billion
Based o Forbes (The Fictional 15), the Waynes of Gotham City have $7 Billion. Bruce Wayne inherited this amount from his parents.
Ben Affleck Became Superman And Batman
To wear the suits of Batman and Superman is an awesome thing. This is one thing Ben Affleck has experienced that no other actor has. He once played the role of Superman in the fictional 2006 movie Hollywoodland while he also played as Batman in the 2016 Batman vs Superman movie.
  www.geekologie.com
You Can Take Up A Batman College Course
If you want to learn The Science of Batman, you can take the course at the University of Victoria in Canada. They absolutely offer a real Batman course. But, of course, you need to be an official student of the university first.
Batman Has An Online Screen Name
You wouldn’t think that Batman has an online Screen name, right? Well, he does, and it’s JonDoe297.
  Batman’s Mother Is The Joker
In the version of Flashpoint, Martha Wayne is The Joker. It started when she wasn’t able to cope with the emotions of her son’s (Bruce Wayne) death. She then created a fake smile by cutting her face and becoming The Joker.
Bruce Wayne Is The Top 46th Sexiest Male

Ever Wondered Where Gotham City is On The Map?
Here is a look at where Gotham City lies on the map. Look how close it is to Metropolis so no wonder we now see the Superman and Batman crossovers.
Lots of references place Gotham City as being in New Jersey. This map gives the Gotham City and Metropolis positions from across a bay. One map showing Gotham City in relation to Metropolis, the home of Superman, published in New Adventures of Superboy #22 (October 1981), placed Gotham City and Metropolis on opposite sides of a large bay. In Swamp Thing vol. 2, #53 (October 1986) the geography of Rhode Island was the basis of another map of Gotham City. The current definitive maps of Gotham City are those based on the ones produced for the “No Man’s Land” story arc. (source: www.ifi.stackexchange.com)
That being said, it is debateable as to the exact location of Gotham City. There has never been a definitive location but we thought the above fact was super cool and needed to be discussed amongst the ‘Bat’ fans.

Wheeling's Brochu a Brick Wall in 3-1 Komets Win
Tumblr media
For the second time this weekend, the Wheeling Nailers put a shooting gallery on an opposing goaltender, but were unable to get two points to show for their efforts. Wheeling poured 43 shots on rookie goaltender Brett Brochu, who was only beaten in the second period by Tanner Laderoute. The Fort Wayne Komets also succeeded in the special teams department, as Ture Linden scored two power-play goals, while Fort Wayne blanked Wheeling's six power plays in a 3-1 win for the home side at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. The Nailers dominated the first period with a 13-4 shots advantage, but neither squad was able to turn on the red light during the opening 20 minutes. However, both sides wasted little time in getting on the board in the middle frame. Fort Wayne struck first at the 1:26 mark. Wheeling attempted to clear the puck on the penalty kill, but William Provost made a steal and promptly set up Ture Linden, who zipped a wrist shot into the right side of the net. The Nailers answered 22 seconds later on a 2-on-1 break. Dillon Hamaliuk saucered a pass across the slot to Tanner Laderoute, who slammed in the feed as he crashed in on the right side. Although those were the only two goals in period two, there was an enormous save with 2:41 remaining, as Taylor Gauthier denied a penalty shot attempt by Jack Dugan, who led the Komets with 12 points. Wheeling's power play struggled to dent the twine for the second time on the weekend, and at the 6:43 mark of the third period, Fort Wayne capitalized on its man advantage. Goaltender Brett Brochu launched a pass ahead to Jake Chiasson, who then connected with Linden for a tip-in at the top of the crease. 2:10 later, Alexis D'Aoust collected a key insurance marker for the Komets, as he squirted a shot through from along the goal line. Fort Wayne took 11 of the first 12 shots in the first 8:53 of the third period, but the rest of the stanza belonged to Brochu. The Nailers took 15 of the final 17 shots and finished with 43, but were unable to cash in again, as the Komets prevailed, 3-1. Brett Brochu was incredible in his ECHL debut for Fort Wayne, as he stopped 42 of 43 shots to earn the victory. Taylor Gauthier made 21 saves on 24 shots for Wheeling. The Nailers will have three home games in the coming week, starting with Thanksgiving Eve on Wednesday at 7:10 against Toledo. That night will feature live IWC Wrestling, Turkey Bowling, $2 Beer Specials, and a Twisted Tea Special. First Responders Night is later that week on Saturday, November 25th, which will feature the Guns vs. Hoses Game following the Nailers match against Iowa at 7:10. The next Big Six game is Wheeling Wonderland on Saturday, December 9th. Season memberships and other terrific ticket plans for the 2023-24 season are available now by calling (304) 234-GOAL. The Wheeling Nailers, considered one of the top things to do in Wheeling, West Virginia, provide affordable family entertainment for fans throughout the Ohio Valley. Read the full article

Using Book Four of De Doctrina Christiana as exemplum of a rhetoric that requires the rhetor to submit to “the will of God” through prayerful hermeneutics, this paper demonstrates that Emerson transforms Augustine’s idea of submission through interpretation into a sense of resignation to higher law and makes it the foundation of his rhetoric From :  Roger THOMPSON (Virginia Military Institute, USA; [email protected]) “Emerson and St. Augustine: Hermeneutics, Submission, and the Efficacy of a Spiritualized Rhetoric”

[...] this paper plumbs the rhetorical character of the Exercises: their explicit engagement of “intellect in reasoning” (logos/docere), acts of the will (ethos/movere), and movements of feeling (pathos/delectare); the resemblance of some exercises to heuristic topoi (cause and effect, comparison, contraries); their aim of moving exercitants from visual “composition” to formulation of petition to communication (colloquy) with God; their kairotic adaptability to exercitants as audience; and their urging of meditative amplification to maximize effect. [...]  This analysis in turn presents a valuable historical context for grounding theoretical work, such as that by Kenneth Burke and Wayne Booth, on the religion of rhetoric. From :  Stephen MCKENNA (The Catholic University of America, USA; [email protected]) “Loyola’s Rhetorical Exercises “
My key observation is that recent books in popular piety--in particular, prayer- -may be profitably understood as falling within a rich rhetorical tradition under the heading of artes orandi, that is, instructional texts devoted to the practice of prayer.[...]  My proposed objective is to read several contemporary exemplars of this “how to” genre through the lens of history and tradition to better understand how rhetorical pedagogy and practice are intertwined in the context of religious devotion.  My summary claim is that artes orandi, while typically overlooked in our accounts of the rhetorical tradition, nonetheless remain a significant domain of rhetorical activity, one meriting further attention, as does, of course, the rhetorical activity of prayer itself that artes orandi seek to promote.
For more than twenty years, rhetorical scholars have been arguing that Aristotle’s distinction between deliberative and forensic rhetoric and epideictic rhetoric is problematic because it creates an artificial distinction between argument and aesthetic and because it ignores the serious work that epideictic rhetoric does to affirm shared values (e.g., Bradford 2006; Poulakos 1987; Sheard 1996). Instead, modern scholars argue that epideictic rhetoric should be seen as useful in defining situations (Dow 1989) and as useful for reaffirming or challenging traditional values (Sheard 1996). Manchester City host Liverpool in Saturday’s curtain-raiserGettyWhich Liverpool and Man City stars will make our combined XI?PA:Empics SportBoth clubs reinforced heavily during the summer transfer market and are both unbeaten in three Premier League games so far. But which, if any, of those new faces make our Manchester City–Liverpool combined XI? Find out below… GOALKEEPER Ederson ARGUABLY the shakiest position in either club’s ranks, Ederson marginally gets the nod here. Up against the inconsistent Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius, the City new-boy was the logical choice… if for no other reason than he’s not made too many errors, yet. Walker and Mendy - both one-time record signings - both start on the flanks, while team-mate Kompany starts in the middle. He's joined by Liverpool's Matip - arguably a more stable option than John Stones, Nicolas Otamendi, Ragnar Klavan or Dejan Lovren. HOLDING MIDFIELD Jordan Henderson, Emre Can Jordan Henderson and Emre Can nail down the holding midfield berthsReutersIN the holding midfield ranks, it's Liverpool twosome Henderson and Can nailing down the starting berths. The pair are a dynamic, all-around force in the centre of the park, full of running and both offensive and defensive ability. They easily trump the likes of Fernandinho and Yaya Toure to the starting line-up. ATTACKING MIDFIELD Sadio Mane, Kevin De Bruyne, Philippe Coutinho Sadio Mane gets the nod alongside Philippe Coutinho and Kevin De BruyneEPAPOTENTIALLY the toughest part of the starting XI to decide, TWO Liverpool men make it... Mane and Coutinho. Mane beats the likes of Bernardo Silva and Leroy Sane to the right-wing spot after a phenomenal start to the 2017-18 season. Coutinho - still in Liverpool exile - makes the left-wing, with De Bruyne nailing down the No10 spot. STRIKER Sergio Aguero Sergio Aguero narrowly earns the starting spot in the combined XIGettyANOTHER tough call with the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Roberto Firmino to contend with, but Aguero gets the nod here. The Argentine forward would walk into any starting XI on the planet on form. Teaming-up with Mane, De Bruyne and Coutinho in attack would be utterly terrifying for any defence. MANAGER Jurgen Klopp Jurgen Klopp holds the better head-to-head record with Pep GuardiolaGOING into Saturday's game, Klopp and Guardiola have squared up ten times. The Liverpool boss has won five, the City chief just four, with a sole draw rounding off proceedings. Based on that, Klopp gets the nod here... but which way will things go this Saturday?
