VENEER TECH CAREER
Tumblr media
Were you the child who gave their parents makeovers they didn't have the heart to tell you were bad? Do you want to feel as important as a doctor but don't want to waste your time on boring topics like gum disease? Are you a sadist?
If you fall into any - or all - of these categories, you'll love being a veneer tech.
Just because you ain't on some board doesn't mean you can't make board money! All you really need is some glue, gloves, and Invisalign, anyway!
Hell, if people cared about taking advantage of people, half the businesses out now would be closed. Shops shut all the way up. You deserve to get your bag too, right?
...maybe your first investment should be a lawyer.
This is a base game-esque career with four levels and two branches. Y'all know I am very new, and I couldn't find a tutorial on how to make active careers, so I apologize in advance for it being so bare. :(
I do hope y'all enjoy though!
Levels:
Tumblr media
You just got your online certificate from the 6 hour seminar your favorite TikToker hosted and are now ready to service the streets with your dental expertise. The only problem is you don't have no expertise and are not a dentist.
But if that didn't stop your "mentor", why should it stop you? Try and make something shake for a little while. Worst comes to worst, you gotta flee the state... or the country...
...you really should look into that lawyer, friend.
Shade Room Famous
Due to the rampant amount of horror stories you have, your face is now plastered all over The Shade Room, the largest urban gossip blog in all of the US.
But to your surprise and mine tool - it seems like the saying about all attention is true, because people are now lined up your block waiting for the Smilez special.
Guess all you can do now is make sure your career lasts longer than your teeth.
Viral on TikTok
Fame looka nice on you, doesn't it? At least online fame does. After getting some shine on Shade Room, Hollywood Unlocked, The Neighborhood Talk, and even more, you've managed to rack up one million followers on TikTok. You're almost ready to release your own seminar!
Be careful, though, newfound fame brings newfound opposition. And with your multiple medical and ethical violations it won't take much to get unplugged.
The Plug
After all of the hours of hard scamming you put in, you've done it. You've got the fame, the fortune, the mid-tier rapper/influencer connections, and about 21 different YouTube videos about your crimes.
The only thing to do now is sit back, count up, and not get indicted.
And hey, if that doesn't work? At least you're making enough for a one way to Jamaica.
Branches:
Celebrity Scammer
Now, about that mid-tier clientele you had...
They are all big time now. And so are you! You've 'hustled' and 'grinded' your way to the big leagues.
No more barbershops. You're doing Future's teeth in the back of your mansion. Their teeth may decay, but your star certainly isn't!
It doesn't even matter how many people say you scamming. Or how many horror stories have turned into full on nightmares.
You're the Dr. Miami of teeth now. Can't nobody say anything about that!
Seminar Leader
Now, about that seminar you said you were gon start...
You did. In fact, the only two options on your website are to book and to, well, book.
In doing so, not only have you managed to stack up even more, but now you look wise and charitible to 5% of Instagram users. Win win!
It doesn't matter if most people think you still scamming. Or the fact you don't send out all the invites to people who signed up.
You're a business person now. Can't nobody say nothing about that!
HALANI HAYNES
Tumblr media
(romantic- self assured - hot headed)
Only one outfit is done, the rest are an underwear set!

Let's talk about this song:
youtube
I love it & I'm GLAD it was made.
SADLY, the uptight, upperclassmen especially the ones in Parliament will not just ignore it but also not listen to it. There is a HUGE value that they'd miss from not watching it.
Which like my post on "hustle" culture they read but took the WRONG thing from it.
Yes, I'm not supporting any form of thieves no matter if they feel they must. But the problem is NOT the people trying to "hustle" & ultimately thieving. It's the income themselves. How many of those people are kleptomaniacs, stole as a child or has been stealing from a long time? That's the question you should be asking. In fact, I know 90% of them aren't those and if you awaken them to the reality, would adjust.
So the bigger question is. Why do they do it? And the answer is in the same post and the song they'd avoid:
Income is too low.
I hear far too many Jamaicans complain (but don't do anything to fix it) about poor working situations.
THAT IS WHY I SUPPORTED THE TAXI MEN PROTESTING. MORE PEOPLE SHOULD BE PROTESTING AND HOLDING THE GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABLE!! THE JOB WAS GIVEN TO THEM BY THE PEOPLEM SO WHEN THEY NOT WORKING RIGHT DEMAND MORE OR REMOVE THEM. ITS YOUR RIGHT AS A CITIZEN. DO NOT LET THEM THINK OTHERWISE.
So, whether overworked but not paid the value of it, under paid or more but feel they can't fix it. So they take liberties to make themselves comfortable or bring ease to their work experience until they can do better or just survive. Which pours into the poor customer service experiences, late starts or "hustle" culture.
Plus THEY ARE NOT LAZY. If you give those same people a foreign work visa and a ticket. They would work 10 jobs if they could. Because most of those jobs their time equal money. So they see what they put in come back to them.
So I don't wrong them for doing what they feel they can to even the scales. But I DO NOT like it. This is because it affects the businesses experience and more. The question though is, who's supposed to look out for the working man? Who's going to make sure they get proper wages?
Obviously NOT the government. Because, instead of looking at the possibility or raising the minimum wage. They made a news report about how an investigation on JUTC shows that the workers have been taking the equipments and supplies. I'm sure the Government felt like they did something. They felt like they got the thieves.
Funny story: apparently it's commonly known to be the case from the inception.
So once again another PERFORMANCE. But NO fundamental change.
But here's an hypothetical. IMAGINE:
Jamaica with a livable minimum wage. A wage that can help each Jamaican young or old. Someone with 10 subjects or none. Live, grow, thrive and feel like a HUMAN being. Don't you think those people, especially if they realize what they're doing is stealing will stop? Or gunmen who are afraid of police and DEATH would choose a different path? Wouldn't that be a fucking fundamental change that those left doing the bad things are REALLY the bad bunch and not the ones just trying to survive. You don't have to call the men on the road digging out their hand middle as waste youths, but simply men relaxing on their day off.
So as someone who was sheltered or raised like the uptown youths. I KNOW how they'd respond to people like them or the workers at JUTC or just the "everyone else" mindset. That they're the thing that's causing problems in Jamaica. That they should stop wasting time or get subjects or do something with their lives.
You may not want to watch the video but now that I'm inevitable & y'all can't stop watching me or try to prove me wrong or make a performance. Do this:
WATCH THE DAMN VIDEO
(put aside your pride or the fact that he called you out, whoever, and TRY to CARE. Just this once. Take my idea too and increase minimum wage. Try and fight the people funding y'all because they like the profit margins of low wages and ever increasing price for products and/or services. To keep them RICH and special. Just do that. AT LEAST STEAL MY IDEA AND DO IT RIGHT THIS TIME. Unlike the other times where you ran off with it without pausing, thinking, doing some research and ACTUALLY Problem solving. Not the performance you like to do. Take it. While you continue to ignore me and secretly attack me. I'll take it for the team because THE PEOPLE NEED IT. But THINK. But if you fuck it up. That's on you. Because I already thought it through, planning and just waiting to execute it. Y'all going to be HELLA embarrassed when I do. I WON'T CARE.)

Michelle
I dont think of myself as a nice guy, I prefer to be a good guy. I strive towards this as I think nice guys just get shat on.
So, in 2013 I went to Jamaica and met Michelle. I actually stayed at her place and we shared an appreciation of alcohol. During my time there, Michelle took me to see her friend at Hart training which I think was a government body. A waste of time as the woman there asked me to send my CV and ideas when I got back to UK, which I did and am still awaiting a reply some 8 years later.
Anyway, Michelle wanted to use her place, Michelles Great House, for training in the area that I work in, Management, CPD etc. So there have been a number of false starts and last time I thought if this doesnt happen then I'm not bothering. It didnt
However, I went back on that as the new idea involved her sister and a new venue which she had recently built with her husband, John.
So, I was asked to put something together which basically was like a job application to show what I can bring to the table. So, once again, I bit and produced this:
How to be part of it
The two areas that we discussed:
Customer Service
Change Management
A little about Coaching too
We discussed Taster Sessions to provide Management buy-in; so, like a sales pitch. These sessions might be of 2hrs max. duration. They may have to be a Loss-Leader to start with until we become the Partner of Choice for organisations. It then becomes arguable whether we would need them.
Briefly discussed follow-up sessions; for example, Basic to Advanced or maybe better phrasing would be Practitioner to Master Class?
So, the H/W set was:
How can I be part of it?
Do I want to be part of it?
Yes, I want to be part of it, after 8 years of planning; I think this might be the time when it comes together.
So, the ‘How’ really comes down to what you need and can I provide that. So, the next section is going to read like a CV [Resume for any Canadians readingJ].
I am internationally mobile; I’m not tied to any one country; so, Jamaica and Canada pose no problems. I have an Irish [EU] passport so I can easily access those countries if ever we needed to
I have experience of writing courses to Awarding Body standards and to bespoke guidelines
I have experience of working with Awarding Bodies to create accredited courses and conform to their quality standards
I am skilled in writing for self and for other trainers to deliver
Experience in many sectors:
Government [UK and internationally]
Work-Related
Management
Offender
Initial Teacher Training
Experience of planning class / training room layout to optimise learning experience
I have an Assessor Qualification which allows me to perform graded observations on other trainers [if needed] and ensure quality of provision
I can oversee the physical provision:
Hardware
Need to have / nice to have
Training room layout
The intellectual provision [offer]:
To write and resource courses
Delivery to a high standard
Ensuring quality and standardisation between events and trainers
To perform course interviews
To coach participants
Money:
The profit is in repeats as there are no R&D costs
Value-Addedness or better Enrichment activities shouldn’t cost a lot. So, in-house activities more than field trips? If we thought that these could be an option when booking probably managers would not take them up to keep their costs down; so, they should be just ‘what we do’ our USP if you like.
So, what are we going to pay ourselves? I remember researching this some years ago and I found that top trainers were commanding a daily fee of £1000+ [about 1700 Canadian]. Please don’t think that’s what I want but we have to come to a figure that we can all live with whilst supporting a healthy company.
Further Thoughts:
Since the meeting I’ve been thinking about Train the Trainer courses of various duration Note, I have 2-day courses, 3-week courses ready to run [both C&G courses but we can adapt]
Coaching Skills might be an avenue worth exploring as a short course
Crucially, for quality purposes at least, everyone that is client-facing should receive training in Presentation Techniques, so we are all singing from the same hymn sheet. There can be nothing that undermines a company more than a client talking to one of us and then getting a different answer from someone else in the company. So, professionalism really.
Is this what you wanted?
Questions:
How long do you want the courses to be?
Group size [ultimately this will determine cost to individual / organisation]
What will our commitment be timewise? We talked a little about this but it’ll probably remain a grey area until we know how successful we are
Consider creating an organisational chart
“If it’s not fun, it’s not worth doing” – some Irish guy, 2024
So, I sent it to them and waited. Then I asked whether that was what they wanted and I got back 'Partially'. She said she wanted to start in January
So, we had a few more meetings and I told her that my lease was coming to an end mid-October and I need to know whether we're going ahead or what as I could put my stuff in storage or find a new place here in Thailand
12th September I was told that her sister was coming to Jamaica and they would talk and come to a good decision. The weekend came and went, my birthday [16th] came and went without any message. so I left it for 2 weeks and still nothing. So, I found a new property and put a 22,000 baht deposit on it to move in 15th October.
I'm not angry with Michelle, I'm just disappointed in me falling for it again. Hope will kill you. But, I'm retired. I was coming out of retirement for this project. I dont need it
But I really wont be falling for any of this again. I'm sure I'll get a call in December asking me when I'm coming. Oh, well.

What are the benefits of hiring a real estate agent to purchase property?
Tumblr media
We all know that searching online for your dream properties in Jamaica can be fun, but having a real estate agent by your side can significantly assist you when making a real estate purchase. A buyer's agent will put in the time to assist you in finding the ideal property for sale in Jamaica and starting to become a homeowner. With millions of real estate agents actively working in the country, you can choose the right one who matches your personality and assists you in acquiring precisely what you want in your next (or first) residence.
The following ten benefits will show you why working with a real estate agent is best.
They'll Help You Avoid Wasting Time
You are already aware of how long this can take if you have ever sat at the computer to start your property search. Finding a property in Jamaica for sale can be a challenging and time-consuming game. A real estate agent will be able to filter out properties that don't fit your criteria once they clearly understand what you're looking for in a property. To save their buyers time, agents also frequently attend functions and open houses on their behalf. Engaging with a real estate agent is the most effective method to avoid viewing properties that are just inappropriate for your needs.
2. They'll Get You a Better Deal
Hiring a real estate agent throughout the buying process will allow you to maximize your financial resources. They are there to determine whether a house is priced appropriately, excessively high, or even too inexpensive, given the neighborhood in which it is located. Your agent would like you to be capable of enjoying the financial advantages of homeownership by making your purchase price an excellent investment. A real estate agent is educated about the value of particular features and how they will affect your long-term financial situation. The best part is that your agent ensures the price you pay for your house and its neighborhood is reasonable.
3. They Have Inner Professional Networking
The professional network for real estate isn't like any other business network you might be familiar with. Real estate agents constantly exchange information about properties and come across undiscovered treasures. Access to this inner network of people will significantly benefit your home-buying endeavors, as you are unlikely to travel in the same circles with them. Asking your agent about their possible affiliations with professional real estate associations within their industry is courageous.
4. Their Expertise and Ethics
The two big "E's" of working with a Realtor are expertise and ethics. These are the fundamental benefits of working with a Realtor. Just as doctors take the oath of the Hippocratic tradition and attorneys swear to a code of ethics, realtors voluntarily hold themselves to a higher standard, and that's important. As professional fiduciaries, realtors are bound by principles, obligations, and codes of conduct that uphold the respect and dignity of real estate as a profession while placing the client's needs first. Finding properties that usually meet particular needs and wants, pricing and valuation, familiarity with building codes, drafting legally binding contracts, cool-headed negotiation, and the coordination needed for a seamless closing are just a few examples of how expertise is shown. Having an experienced Realtor by your side is essential when making what is often the largest purchase of your life. If your representation is accurate, you should be able to sell for more, buy for less, and steer clear of gravely damaging errors.
5. They can access MLS
One of the best communication channels for those buying and selling properties is the Multiple Listing Service. Unfortunately, unless you're working with a real estate agent, you don't always have access to it. You should not be confused with many online tools for searching for a home, as they may not always have all the available listings, which could hinder your search. The Multiple Listing Service (MLS) is a potent tool used in the real estate industry to put agents in the right place at the right time. It is intended to notify agents of events such as open houses, new listings, and other helpful information.
Read More: How to Sell Your Properties in Real Estate Market: Tips and Tricks
6. Their Market Knowledge
The real estate market is vulnerable to changes every week. Some modifications are more significant than others, such as changes in interest rates; minor changes in neighborhood prices are an example. Beyond what is happening nationally, each state, city, and small municipality has its real estate market. To help you buy your new home at the best possible time, real estate agents closely monitor these changes for their clients. This way, you are always informed of all these volatile details.
7. They are Motivated to Find You a Property
Real estate agents are highly driven as their success depends on their ability to find you an ideal property. Simply put, they skip meals if they can't assist you in purchasing the house of your dreams. Typically, real estate agents operate as independent contractors with complete financial autonomy, not receiving any salary. Real estate agents are driven to find you a home so you can genuinely live happily ever after and you can feel secure in their efforts.
8. They Understand Complex Transactions
Real estate agents are knowledgeable about every complex step involved in a real estate transaction—for example, the property inspection and your ability to effectively understand unfamiliar details. In addition, an agent can interpret correspondence from underwriters and loan officers, which will assist you in feeling well-informed and in control of the facts surrounding your real estate transaction. Your agent can promptly advise you on obtaining necessary information when problems arise, allowing your purchase to proceed smoothly.
9. They are aware of the Topography.
Working with real estate agents is excellent because they know about the city they operate in. They translate into information about the market, the history of the neighborhood, and real estate insights that you might not otherwise have. They will be helpful if you have specific preferences regarding the kind of neighborhood you want to live in, the distance you want to travel to work, or the schools your children should attend. For instance, you may come upon a house you genuinely love; an agent can provide additional information about the neighborhood, including school quality, statistics on crime, and any impending commercial development.
10. Nothing is at risk for you!
You are not making investments when you work with a Jamaican real estate agent to assist you in finding your next (or first) residence. Before putting a single dollar on the offer table, a knowledgeable professional will represent you; the seller will cover all costs upfront. From the time you sign an agent contract until you receive the keys to your house, this individual will put in a lot of effort on your behalf.
Conclusion
We want to motivate you to find the ideal real estate agent who can help you with your upcoming real estate transaction. Finding the best real estate agent for your personality or property may require online research and asking friends and family for recommendations. Depending on the type of property you're looking for, some real estate agents operate in specific niches that could be beneficial. Century21 Jamaica is a Real estate Marketplace covering Sales, Rentals, Leases, Property Auctions, and Property Management if you are looking for the best Jamaican real estate agents. They also provide a comprehensive and integrated suite of affordable services to individuals and organizations. With Century21's guidance, you can find and list your properties in Jamaica for sale or rental.

Earth Overshoot Day: Why investors should be concerned about resource depletion
Tumblr media
Research shows that by August 2, the consumption of the Earth's natural resources will have exceeded the capacity for annual regeneration. As investors, however, we are in a position to contribute to pushing back this date, by supporting the transition towards a more sustainable future.
Everyone knows today that humanity uses the Earth's natural resources at a rate that does not allow them to be regenerated. The result of a scholarly calculation, “Overshoot Day” corresponds to the date on which, each year, the consumption of resources exceeds what can be regenerated in 12 months.
According to the latest estimates from the National Footprint and Biocapacity Accounts report, Earth Overshoot Day is August 2, 2023 this year.[1]  In other words, our use of natural resources seems to be better controlled[2]. Lately, the situation has tended to get worse year on year, except in 2020, where COVID-19 related lockdowns pushed back the Overshoot Day date by about a month (August 22).
This report points out, however, that while the calculated date has been pushed back five days this year compared to 2022, the actual improvement represents only one day, the remaining four days being due to the integration of new data series in the calculations.
Each country has its own Overshoot Day: developed markets with higher living standards are usually at one end of the spectrum, while developing countries are at the other end. For the United States, the threshold was reached on March 13 of this year, which means that if the world's population consumed at the same rate as the United States, resources would be exhausted by that date. Qatar's Overshoot Day is the earliest (February 10), while Germany, France, Japan and the UK reached this point in May. Jamaica brings up the rear with a date set for December 2023.[3]
These indicators show that the way we use natural resources is unsustainable and that governments, businesses and investors need to act.
How investors can help push back the date
The Global Footprint Network identifies several key areas to limit our use of natural resources, including protecting biodiversity, decarbonising the energy sector and more efficient food production associated with lower waste. These areas are at the heart of responsible investing and we believe investors can make a difference, while still aiming for long-term financial returns.
More than half of the world's GDP depends on healthy biodiversity, and ecosystem degradation costs the global economy more than USD 5 trillion each year. Also, the collapse of pollinators and timber and fish stocks could weigh on global GDP by 2.3% by 2030[4].
As investors, we can seek to protect biodiversity in a variety of ways, including allocating our capital to companies active in water treatment, precision agriculture (which, while producing crops at higher yield to feed a growing population, reduced use of harmful fertilizers and pesticides) and sustainable forest management in the paper and packaging industry.
Switching to renewable energy and moving away from fossil fuels together are a crucial step towards reducing carbon emissions and using natural resources more efficiently. Also, the fact that a growing number of countries are reducing their dependence on fossil fuels generates, in our view, a multitude of investment opportunities, whether they are renewable energy players or companies supplying technologies and services to the sector.
A circular approach
The “take-make-throw away” model on which the global economy is based is partly responsible for the overexploitation of the planet's resources. Instead, we should focus on “repair-reuse-recycle” – the approach that underpins a circular economy model – to keep materials and products in circulation, eliminate waste and regenerate nature.[5]
The Circularity Gap Report 2023 published by think tank Circle Economy and Deloitte[6] suggests that shifting to a circular economy model would meet needs using only 70% of the raw materials we extract today – otherwise said, without exceeding the limits of earthly resources. But there is still a long way to go, as this report estimates that the global economy is currently circular for only 7.2%.
However, the dynamic is positive. In 2020, the European Commission adopted a Circular Economy Action Plan, including measures to ensure products are designed to last longer, be easier to recycle and use recycled materials in their production when possible[7]. In March 2023, the Commission also proposed a directive on the “right to repair”[8], to make it easier and cheaper to have products repaired than to replace them. [9]
Circular solutions can solve some problems related to the way we use the Earth's resources, but also promote the reduction of carbon emissions, the protection of biodiversity, etc[10].
Potential benefits for investors and for the planet
As an asset manager, we can invest on a large scale and support companies active in key areas – biodiversity, energy transition, food and agriculture, circular economy – but also governments through sovereign bond issues.
Companies at the forefront of the transition could experience strong growth, while competitors lagging behind risk seeing demand for their goods and services erode and their cost of capital rise, while they remain under threat of change. regulations or policies such as increases in taxes or tariffs.
Changemakers and their investors are therefore well positioned to take advantage of the situation financially, while contributing to the fight against climate change and reducing our ecological footprint.

immigration story pt3
Tumblr media
His advice for other immigrants was to, “ not ever be comfortable and continue to work hard; have motivation for yourself throughout your journey, if your young go to college or some type of schooling to further your knowledge and experience. Don't come to a new place to waste time and pass up opportunities.” Regarding the politics which exist back home and the US; he felt both government systems are pointless and corrupt because they won't fully uphold their duty of upholding the people's needs before profits and power. When he first came to America he was interested in the new updates about immigration laws that were aired. During that time Bill Cliton was in office; the immigration policies he was enforcing worked out in my dad's favor. Which had influenced  him to be more lenient with democratic party. His future plans are to visit back home to Jamaica in a year's time hopefully and soon to open his own personal business. The ideas he had mentioned for his own business was a laundromat service,  vending machine with Caribbean snacks and maybe a Caribbean restaurant or even a t-shirt customized printing workshop. Another thing to call his own while making a side hobby with earning money on the side. I'm very proud of my dad and all the things he has accomplished as a person; also raising me and my siblings with the consistent discipline and nourishment of education he has instilled in each of us.

■ Matthew McNulty, 38, on catching Covid while filming Domina in Italy, stripping off for Running Naked, and apparently picking his own damn accent at age 10
(Interview behind cut, originally posted in Metro News, interviewed by Sue Crawford)
Your new film is called Running Naked — did you?
Yes! It was in an area of the hospital we had full control over, so it wasn’t too embarrassing, and we filmed in the summer so we weren’t too cold. It was liberating and nerve-wracking at the same time.
It’s been described as a film that will make you laugh and cry…
There are sad moments but it’s uplifting more than anything else. It’s about two cancer survivors, Mark and Ben [played by Andrew Gower], who are friends from being teenagers. The title comes from the fact that when they were younger they streaked through the hospital naked. It’s also a metaphor for being free — running without the things that weigh you down.
Does it have a happy ending?
I play Mark, who’s now a doctor, while Ben is in a dead-end job and has obsessive tendencies. Ben is afraid of hospitals so Mark takes the blood into hospital for him when they have their annual check-ups. The cancer comes back for one of them. It’s a changing point in the film. They’ve both lost their way and this diagnosis jolts them back to life.
Have you lost work due to the pandemic?
I was filming in Italy for Sky drama Domina when it first burst on to the scene. The job got cancelled. We’d shot half of it and we managed to go back last year to shoot the rest so I’ve been lucky. However, at the end of the job I tested positive for Covid, so I had to isolate in Italy for nearly three weeks. I wasn’t majorly ill, I just felt rundown.
At least you could tuck into some lovely Italian grub…
The production team got me some shopping but they sent so much pasta. I know I was in Italy but there’s only so much you can do with pasta and tins of chopped tomatoes and tuna! I ate it for ages and then got very well acquainted with Deliveroo. It cost me quite a bit but there was more variety.
What was your first TV job?
I was on Corrie. I don’t think my character had a name, just Local Scally. It was with Bruce Jones, who played Les Battersby. Les was doing community service, and me and this other lad threw stones at him from an island. He rowed over to the island to get us and we nicked his boat. It was quite a funny storyline. Even though it was literally only one episode, people remember it.
Have you ever been starstruck?
When I was in Return To Cranford I worked with Judi Dench. It was early in my career and my mother-in-law told me Judi had lived in the town next to us and that her father was a doctor. She said I’d got to ask her about it so I felt I had to. One day there was just her and me together and I blurted it out. She smiled and said, ‘Sorry?’ She hadn’t a clue what I was talking about — she’d never lived there. Afterwards I was like, I could have had a proper conversation with Judi Dench but I wasted it!
Why did you pick Matthew as your stage name?
For the simplest reason, it’s two syllables and it begins with M. I didn’t want to change my name but there was already another Michael McNulty registered with Equity. As much as I was tempted to think of a cool name, I knew it wouldn’t be cool 20 years later.
You were born in Germany so how come you have such a strong Manchester accent?
My dad was in the army so I lived in Germany until I was ten. I adopted this accent when we moved to Wigan because everyone went, ‘God, you’re well posh, you!’ I didn’t fancy a Wigan accent, it was the 1990s and Manchester was cool, so I chose a Manchester one.
Do you find accents easy for different roles?
I was always good at copying them — I guess it is part of the reason I became an actor. I did a north-east accent for The Paradise and a Cornish accent for Jamaica Inn. Even if the script doesn’t ask for a particular area, I tend to try to take it away from my own accent.
Would you like to make it big in the United States?
I’ve done one job in America. My character was a sheriff and when they saw me they decided to make me a deputy because I was so young and skinny. They said, ‘Oh right, we’ll have to rewrite it because you don’t look as authoritative as you do on your self-tape.’
What do you enjoy away from work?
I read children’s stories. My wife used to have a social inclusion company. I’d go round schools and read stories and then I started putting them on YouTube. Literacy and stories are important to me. People like me, from the school I went to, don’t really get encouraged to be artistic or to tell stories. The channel is called Books Alive! I’ve got 50 stories on there.
