New Year, New Beautiful Homes of Instagram

  Hello, my wonderful friends! How are you in 2019? Did anything happen? Did a switch turn on, bringing more Light into your heart during this first week of this New Year? It’s been terribly cold, gloomy and dark out there. The weather is miserable and it’s easy to feel the winter blues insistently knocking on my door, but I am not opening it… instead, I decided to take a small break during the Holidays to do what I love the most in life; which is spending time with my family and work whenever I feel inspired. I took a small break and I am finally feeling like myself again… nothing makes you feel more centered than being able to slow down and hear your own thoughts, and that was exactly what I did.

During this New Year, I certainly hope to continue to listen to what’s inside of my heart and that goes to what I want to share with you here on Home Bunch. I have to be completely honest with you guys. I am tired of cold homes, everything looks the same these days. Although I will always bring the latest trends to my readers, one of my main goals this year is to share homes that feel more like real homes, homes that have character and feel loved, and that starts with this year’s first “Beautiful Homes of Instagram”.   Hi, my name is Erin @theheartandhaven and I’m a home renovator, home décor enthusiast and mother. I have always enjoyed staring at all the pretty things, but I never realized how much joy I would find in creating them until my husband and I bought a 1950s fixer upper about five years ago.

My husband and I are high school sweethearts from the Jersey Shore. We dated long-distance throughout college and upon graduation, we decided to move across the country to start our life together in Los Angeles. I worked in television before deciding to become a stay at home mom when I had my first son. I now have two boys, ages 7 and 4.

After getting married, we purchased a newly-built, builder-grade condo in Los Angeles and while the finishes were not exactly my taste, I was excited to just have a place to call our own and honestly never thought about changing anything. Two years after having my son and really craving some private outdoor space to have him run around, we searched our neighborhood to find a house. We found a corner house only a few blocks away on a beautiful, wide tree-lined street. It was custom built in 1950, and nothing had been updated since then. The house was head- to-toe covered in orange wood (floors, ceilings, walls, you name it!). The bathrooms had parquet linoleum, the staircase had scrolling wrought iron and each room had ceiling fixtures hanging so low that it made the 8 ft. ceilings feel much smaller. Having no reno experience under my belt, I still felt that this 2400 sq. ft. house had potential. Thus began our renovation journey, and we lived through all of it! I don’t think I knew what my style was when we started renovating our home and decisions often had to be made quickly. There are some things I would change, but I have learned so much throughout this process. And five years later, I think I have found my casually modern, beachy-boho style through decorating it , and it has truly become a passion of mine.

Our kitchen was the last major renovation. After living in what felt like a wooden cave, I wanted our new kitchen to be light and bright. We took down the wall that separated the kitchen from our playroom to open it up. I had always wanted an island but, due to building codes, the island would have been very small. So, I adjusted my vision and was able to have the counter space and seating area by making it into a peninsula instead.

Peninsula measures 6 ft x 4.5 ft. and counters are Salt White Marble.

When choosing the pendants over our peninsula, I didn’t want to compete with the chandelier in the nook. These cone pendants with their antique brass interior echoed the glam of the chandelier without overwhelming the space.

Breakfast Nook

I loved the idea of a breakfast nook and wanted to make it feel special, so I went with wallpaper and a statement chandelier. I think the wallpaper adds so much personality to this otherwise all white kitchen. I then paired it with a more rustic feeling table and chairs to contrast the crisp, geometric design.

Playroom

After taking down the wall between the kitchen and the playroom, this is now our view.  Since this is the room my sons hang out in the most, it had to be functional for them but also flow with our kitchen.

Paint Color

The barstools had to become part of the design for the playroom because of the open concept, so going slightly more coastal in this room with the oversized beach print and using blue accents in the room helped tie things together.

Some might think a white sofa and children do not go together. And they would be right! However, I love the crisp look of a white sofa so I chose a slipcover that can be removed and washed.

Living Room

Our sectional is actually a recliner and the chaise lifts up for hidden storage.  I love how functional it is for our family. 

While there is still updating to do to this room, we recently removed the metal stair railings and replaced it with a wooden banister.  Painting and staining the banister was a beast! But it was well worth it.

This was a fun IKEA hack that I did for my 7 year old’s room.  I took the IKEA Kallax shelf unit, chose two different color doors and then spray painted the letters. Wall color is Valspar Ghost Ship.

Reading Nook

These fern decals make this reading nook a lot of fun for my four-year-old.  And while I would have loved a hanging chair, I didn’t think it was practical for my boys so I opted for this caged freestanding chair instead.

This small bathroom was the first major renovation we did when we moved in. There was literally a treasure chest inspired toilet box in here and, much like the rest of the house, tiles and walls were orange-brown. Having no prior design experience, I went with timeless marble and this little bathroom still makes me happy.

A Day In The Life Of Courtney Act (Witney) - Cressie

AN:Hello!I watched Love,Rosie the other day and got really inspired??So here’s a fluffy!Witney + family time

Courtney Act has a perfect life

She has a lovely wife,and two children

She has a great job and an even grater house

“Morning princess”

Were usually the first words she heard every morning,sleepily said by her wife Willam.Willam is beyond this world gorgeous,she was beautiful when they first met but ever since they got married she became even more gorgeous.

Courtney loved to cuddle,Willam liked to seem though and would pretend not to enjoy their cuddling time,but they still did it almost every morning.They would exchange pet names such as princess,love,sweetie,honey,baby with a lot of kisses and blushing.Even though they’ve been married for some years now,Courtney will still blush when Willam would call her by a pet name like when they first met.

And then Willam would have to go,while Courtney worked from home Willam had to spend her day in an office,and drive their older daughter Farrah to high school.Farrah is Courtney’s biological child,she was a teen mom back when TLC’s i didn’t know i was pregnant didn’t exist,but that was a past she didn’t wanna remember.Willam loved Farrah and treated her like her own,they would have their won mother-daughter field trips that included fast rides in Willam’s Lexus GX and buying cute things that were maybe a bit too much revealing for Farrah but Courtney loved that they were bonding.

On some special days Courtney would do Willam’s makeup.Willam loves doing her makeup,it is like a ritual for her,unfortunately Courtney loves it too.She loves watching Willam’s face as she makes it even prettier,and keeps telling her how beautiful she is and how she wants to kiss her.

Farrah would get dressed,put enough highlighter to blind a room full of people and get down to the car waiting for Willam.Courtney would wish her beautiful wife the best day at work,tell her to tell Farrah that she wished her one as well and Willam was on her way to drive Farrah in her ‘cool AF’ car as Farrah called it.Courtney would be left home to wake little Blair up and play games and talk or do whatever her wonderful daughter wanted to do.

Before she woke Blair up Courtney made some waffles and ate them as she admired her kitchen,she was a sucker for good interior design so when Willam and her bought the house she was all over Pinterest looking at gorgeous kitchens and other rooms.

Their kitchen had dark walnut floors,exposed white brick walls,'white wooden whatever the fuck they are called’ cabinets and high cupboards around square windows,with a gorgeous black oven with a exhaust hood and a modern white sink that reminded Courtney of marble,their fridge was big and silver with magnets and Farrah and Blair’s drawings.While a sucker for interior design Courtney was also a sucker for little trinkets,both decorative and those of use,so in the kitchen they had knife holders,towels,cups for spices,a coffee maker,a toaster,those hangers for cups,tea boxes,vintage looking coffee and drink menus on the walls and a framed white picture that read Kitchen in those swirly Pinterest letters.Courtney loved it,almost as much as the loved Willam.

She was sitting on a comfy bar chair on the drop counter,it was wooden with a white top,like everything else and it had a little vase with a little bouquet of artificial flowers,and if she looked on her left she would see the 'formal dinner table’ that was reserved for lunches and dinners and when friends and co-workers came,it also had it’s own little bouquet with fake narcissi.

After breakfast she would wake Blair up,and while Blair ate her breakfast,Courtney would watch whatever FOX show was on.

As any parent would Courtney loved Blair,so much in fact that the living room could be renamed “The gallery of Blair’s pictures ft.baby Farrah pictures and wedding photos.When she was pregnant with Farrah she was too freaked out to coo over her daughter and had only taken a few pictures,and then went mad with Blair’s,Willam tried to stop her but Courtney was and still is unstoppable.

Blair was an adorable but shy little girl,she looked like one of those priceless porcelain dolls.She liked makeup,pinks,blues and purples and basically the whole Sugarpill palette Willam bought her for her birthday,even more she liked painting her mommy’s face with it.After their makeup sessions Courtney looked like a lovechild of Lisa Frank and Picasso’s paintings,she didn’t love it but it made Blair smile.

Courtney also liked listening to Blair talk about her dreams and short stories about unicorns and rainbows and sparkles.Blair would always say that her dream was to be either a ’'beautiful sparkly princess with beautiful magical hair who lived in a castle with animals”,or a hairdresser.Blair like Courtney loved to cuddle.She would always ask her mommy to cuddle with her while they had one of many Disney Marathons and make her sing backup vocals to every Disney song expect the villain songs,those were Courtney’s.While Farrah kind of admired Willam for being the 'cooler of them two,i mean mom you’re cool too but mom has a Lexus GX ’,Blair was all hers,for now at least.Courtney knew that soon Blair would grow up and wouldn’t like to cuddle and paint her mom’s face anymore.It was unavoidable,Courtney knew that,the only thing she could do is hug her daughter tighter and cherish every single moment they have together.

Then Farrah would come home.Sometimes she would watch Disney with them and sometimes she was just too cool for it.

When Willam would come home Courtney would be all over her,asking her how work went,kissing her and all that.Willam liked it too,it made coming home even better.Courtney would cook dinner and Willam would talk to Blair and Farrah,and catch up on which Disney song is Blair’s new favorite,and when Christina Aguilera’s new album is coming out.

Dinner was the family gossip time,Willam would gossip about her co-workers trying not to curse,and Farrah would talk about her friend Eureka and how sad she was that she popped her knee,how pretty she was and that she was going to go to Valentina’s tomorrow.And Courtney was listening to it all dropping comments about how she and Willam absolutely need to go to their friend Adore’s concerts.Courtney would put Blair to sleep and Farrah would go to her room advised by Willam to go to sleep.

At the end of the day Willam and Courtney always had a glass of wine,laughing and starting every sentence with fucking.

And then they would go to sleep,they lay in their white soft bed cuddling as they fall asleep.

Homemade food gifts

Some of the best gifts are homemade food gifts! Everyone likes food, so get your appetite ready and whip up something delicious to delight your friends and family!

* Colorful Holiday snack mix: In a large bowl combine red and green M&Ms, raisins, butterscotch chips, mini twist pretzels, Golden Grahams cereal, and dry roasted peanuts. Mix thoroughchrily and put into clear jars. Cover the tops of the jars with pretty fabric and secure by tying a ribbon around the top. This is a Christmas gift idea that is especially well-suited for the kids' teachers and casual acquaintances.

* Nut bark: Making homemade nut bark is easy and makes an impressive gift. Use one kind of nut, or a mixture. Mix 12 ounces of semi-sweet or white chocolate and spread it evenly on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle with 2 1/2 cup of nuts and chill until firm. Break into pieces.

* Infused Vodka All you need to make your own fancy infused vodka is: a bottle of vodka; glass bottles with tight seals; and flavorings such as halved and seeded jalapenos, vanilla beans, or cherries. Divide the vodka and flavorings between the bottles and refrigerate 3 to 7 days. Remove the flavorings and keep refrigerated for up to two months.

* Candied Nuts This sweet treat is easy to make, but so impressive looking that no one but you will know how easy they are! Toast 2 cups of mixed nuts on a cookie sheet in a 400 degree oven for 6 - 8 minutes until fragrant - do not burn! In a skillet mix 3/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 tsp. salt and 2 Tbsp. water. Simmer this mixture and occasionally swirl the pan until the liquid is amber colored - about 12 to 15 minutes (do not stir the mixture - this will cause it to crystallize).

Stir in the nuts and spread them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper - let cool.

* Stuffed Fruits Delicious as candy and full of all the good nutrients of fruit and nuts AND it is quick and easy to make! Stuff dried seedless prunes with walnut halves and seeded dates with whole almonds. Arrange on a plate or in a pretty tin lined with waxed paper.

* Cocoa Mix: Cocoa mix is a homemade food gift that is a welcome treat for kids and adults of all ages! Create a homemade gift basket with cocoa mix and a pretty mug, or simply tie a festive ribbon around the container.

Packaging tips for homemade food gifts:

* Over-sized coffee mugs make good reusable containers for food gifts. Fill to a bit overflowing and place the filled cup on the center of a large piece of colored cellophane, gather the ends at the top and secure with a ribbon.

* Baskets are always a favorite, and can be decorated with paint or lined with a pretty napkin - paper or cloth.

* Pick up orphan plates and platters at yard sales, flea markets, thrift stores, or store bargain bins to use for giving cookies and cakes. Cover them with plastic wrap, foil, or cellophane.

* Save empty potato chip cans (such as Pringles and Stax). Wash insides and let them dry thoroughly. Use decorative contact paper or glue on gift-wrapping paper to cover the outside of the can and stack cookies or fill with spiced nuts or candies; seal and top with a fancy bow.

Teacup Candles: * If you have (or can find) mismatched or odd teacups (or small cream pitchers or sugar bowls), you can make easy homemade candles tailored to your recipients tastes and decor. Flea markets, garage sales or your grandma's cupboards are great places to look for odd but pretty teacups.

* Decoupage Trinket Box You can buy inexpensive boxes made of lightweight wood or heavy cardboard and easily transform them into attractive trinket boxes. This is an excellent Christmas gift idea for kids who want to make their own homemade Christmas gifts. The boxes can be covered with fabric or decorated with stickers, cut outs from magazines or photographs and covered with Mod Podge (available at craft stores).

* Tile Trivets Find some beautiful tiles at your local home-improvement store. Look for clearance-priced tiles (left overs that are not enough for a large job) and you can get them at a greatly reduced price. Attach a layer of felt to the back of each tile (at least 6 by 6 works best) to create a useful trivet and a lovely homemade gift!

* Cork Trivet If you have a bunch of corks that you have saved from wine bottles, you can make a cork trivet. If not, you might be able to get some from a bar.

1. Find a picture frame that's large enough for your project. You can use a frame you have or get an inexpensive wooden one at the dollar store or a yard sale. It needs to be as deep as the corks are wide so they will fit inside it.

2. Remove the glass and any wire or brackets from the frame.

3. Put a piece of heavy cardboard on the back of the frame and glue it into place.

4. Arrange corks inside the frame - move them around until you come up with an interesting design that you like. You can put a champagne cork upright for a different look (you will probably have to cut some off of the bottom of it so it won't be too tall.)

5. Once you are happy with your design, glue the corks in place using the hot glue gun.

* Herbs in a Cup Buy vintage floral pattern teacups at secondhand stores and plant chives, oregano, rosemary, or basil in them. Decorate with a bit of ribbon and a card describing how to care for the plant.

Homemade gift baskets

* Favorite recipe: For someone who is a particular fan of one of your recipes (or a dish served at a local restaurant) - print the recipe, purchase all the ingredients, and package it all together in a basket. Include a wooden spoon or nice new dish towel for an added touch.

* Movie time: For the movie lover, create a basket with a coupon for movie rentals or a movie or two on DVD. Add either homemade pre-popped and seasoned popcorn, a package of microwave popcorn, or other crunchy movie-time snack. For additional items, think of things you would want when watching a movie at home - drink coasters? a bottle of gourmet root beer or other beverage? Be creative!

* Car care bucket: Buy a plastic bucket and fill with chamois, car wax and car soap. If you want to add something more, what about a car accessory such as a CD case, steering wheel cover, or cup holder?

Gorgeous Minimalist Interiors That Bask In The Purity Of White & Wood

These pure white and wood interiors belong to an unique apartment, designed by Echo Design + Architecture. Light decor, combined with minimalist furniture and layout create a peaceful retreat from New York’s busy city streets, and the owner’s entrepreneurial lifestyle. Utilitarian ideals and a peaceful aesthetic connect as one ‘cube’ in the centre of the interior. Each face of the cube serves amenities and storage to the three defined spaces of the home: The lounge & dining room, a bedroom with office, and the kitchen. Twelve foot high ceilings and original 1846 crown molding have been preserved, which bring wonderful old New York moments to Scandinavian inspired minimalism and Japanese interconnectedness.

The renovated space expands the original single bedroom apartment from a half floor to the entire third floor of the building. The client desired a place to wind down after a long and taxing day, so the cornerstones to the home design became wellness and efficiency. The living room is a fresh space with a pared back furniture layout. An Eames wood lounge chair, a grey modern sofa and an additional lounge chair edge a plain rug. A wooden dining set gently melds with natural plank floors. The high pile rug and window curtains reduce the infiltrating hum from the Flatiron District.

An oval coffee table pairs up with the modern sofa. A teapot has been carried over from the adjacent kitchen that’s set just around the corner of the ‘cube’.

The home entryway is marked by a simple bench seat and an oval wall mirror.

The minimalist dining room design is devoid of wall art or family photography, but an elegant orchid adds just a touch of decoration.

Novelty cushions dress the entryway bench, extending its height to close the gap between the wall mirror.

We get our first 3D glimpse of the centralised cube design here, and some of the storage solutions it offers.

The cube’s flat white panels, along with the Douglas Fir plank floors, provide a continuity throughout each space in the home.

The simple look promotes calm and tranquility, building a sanctuary within a tourist hotspot of New York.

Minimalist design foundations are combined with an understated focal point in each room. In the kitchen, grey backsplash panels are recessed into a flat white wall to create a modest moment of interest.

Uncomplicated furnishings allow the original decorative crown molding to really shine, which dates all the way back to 1846.

Warm oak and walnut pieces were introduced into the scheme to contrast with the white washed wood floors, without adding undue distraction.

Efficiently organised space avoids unwanted distraction, and allows peaceful recovery from a working day’s challenges.

The doors that conceal storage areas on the cube run flush to the floor, avoiding added lines from baseboards.

Interior doors sit flat within the white walls.

Recessed handles streamline the installation.

In the minimalist bedroom, the wardrobes are designed in the exact same aesthetic as the flat fronted white cube. For the first time in the apartment, a piece of art is used to add interest to one of the white walls. Its wooden frame brings an element of added warmth.

Each room consists of a loose collection of furniture but commonality makes links between them. The bedroom chair is a repeat of the lounge chair, and the end of bed bench is the same as the entryway. You can find a cheaper alternative here.

Within the basic palette of white, wood and grey, key elements are highlighted without causing over-embellishment.

A small bedside table, with a mini decorative vase and a candle holder, is just enough to make the spot look homey.

An understated throw softens the wooden bench and tones with grey accent pillows on the bed.

Stark windows let in maximum daylight, though a sheer screen obscures the pane of glass closest to the bed.

Books simply rest on the floor by the comfortable reading chair, avoiding any unnecessary over-crowding from an extra table or bookshelf.

Two shower rooms are concealed within the central cube. One is accessed close to the entry door of the apartment, whilst this one is located just off the hallway by the bedroom. Contrasting graphite and stone coloured tiles line the walls and floor of the room to play with its modest proportions. A small floating vanity unit has a towel shelf underneath, which is currently being utilised as a nook for spare toilet rolls.

Next door to the bedroom there is a dedicated workspace. A white and wood modern home office desk is paired up with a black desk chair in the light of the window. A pale grey contemporary couch takes up the other half of the room. A small floor lamp and a side table makes the sofa into a comfy spot for reading through paperwork or just taking a well deserved break.

Infinite white walls rush up to meet more of the beautiful classic coving. A monochrome pouf adds tribal inspired spice to the plain minimalist decor.

New Year, New Beautiful Homes of Instagram

  Hello, my wonderful friends! How are you in 2019? Did anything happen? Did a switch turn on, bringing more Light into your heart during this first week of this New Year? It’s been terribly cold, gloomy and dark out there. The weather is miserable and it’s easy to feel the winter blues insistently knocking on my door, but I am not opening it… instead, I decided to take a small break during the Holidays to do what I love the most in life; which is spending time with my family and work whenever I feel inspired. I took a small break and I am finally feeling like myself again… nothing makes you feel more centered than being able to slow down and hear your own thoughts, and that was exactly what I did.

During this New Year, I certainly hope to continue to listen to what’s inside of my heart and that goes to what I want to share with you here on Home Bunch. I have to be completely honest with you guys. I am tired of cold homes, everything looks the same these days. Although I will always bring the latest trends to my readers, one of my main goals this year is to share homes that feel more like real homes, homes that have character and feel loved, and that starts with this year’s first “Beautiful Homes of Instagram”.   Hi, my name is Erin @theheartandhaven and I’m a home renovator, home décor enthusiast and mother. I have always enjoyed staring at all the pretty things, but I never realized how much joy I would find in creating them until my husband and I bought a 1950s fixer upper about five years ago.

My husband and I are high school sweethearts from the Jersey Shore. We dated long-distance throughout college and upon graduation, we decided to move across the country to start our life together in Los Angeles. I worked in television before deciding to become a stay at home mom when I had my first son. I now have two boys, ages 7 and 4.

After getting married, we purchased a newly-built, builder-grade condo in Los Angeles and while the finishes were not exactly my taste, I was excited to just have a place to call our own and honestly never thought about changing anything. Two years after having my son and really craving some private outdoor space to have him run around, we searched our neighborhood to find a house. We found a corner house only a few blocks away on a beautiful, wide tree-lined street. It was custom built in 1950, and nothing had been updated since then. The house was head- to-toe covered in orange wood (floors, ceilings, walls, you name it!). The bathrooms had parquet linoleum, the staircase had scrolling wrought iron and each room had ceiling fixtures hanging so low that it made the 8 ft. ceilings feel much smaller. Having no reno experience under my belt, I still felt that this 2400 sq. ft. house had potential. Thus began our renovation journey, and we lived through all of it! I don’t think I knew what my style was when we started renovating our home and decisions often had to be made quickly. There are some things I would change, but I have learned so much throughout this process. And five years later, I think I have found my casually modern, beachy-boho style through decorating it , and it has truly become a passion of mine.

Our kitchen was the last major renovation. After living in what felt like a wooden cave, I wanted our new kitchen to be light and bright. We took down the wall that separated the kitchen from our playroom to open it up. I had always wanted an island but, due to building codes, the island would have been very small. So, I adjusted my vision and was able to have the counter space and seating area by making it into a peninsula instead.

Peninsula measures 6 ft x 4.5 ft. and counters are Salt White Marble.

I loved the idea of a breakfast nook and wanted to make it feel special, so I went with wallpaper and a statement chandelier. I think the wallpaper adds so much personality to this otherwise all white kitchen. I then paired it with a more rustic feeling table and chairs to contrast the crisp, geometric design.

After taking down the wall between the kitchen and the playroom, this is now our view.  Since this is the room my sons hang out in the most, it had to be functional for them but also flow with our kitchen.

The barstools had to become part of the design for the playroom because of the open concept, so going slightly more coastal in this room with the oversized beach print and using blue accents in the room helped tie things together.

Sofa

Some might think a white sofa and children do not go together. And they would be right! However, I love the crisp look of a white sofa so I chose a slipcover that can be removed and washed.

Living Room

Our sectional is actually a recliner and the chaise lifts up for hidden storage.  I love how functional it is for our family. 

While there is still updating to do to this room, we recently removed the metal stair railings and replaced it with a wooden banister.  Painting and staining the banister was a beast! But it was well worth it.

This small bathroom was the first major renovation we did when we moved in. Having no prior design experience, I went with timeless marble and this little bathroom still makes me happy.
