Intel Health Guide - Head First Into Home Health Monitoring
Tumblr media
After over three decades of research, development, and market research, Intel announced the introduction of the Intel Health Guide, an Intel-branded apparatus for remotely monitoring and managing patients with chronic illness in the home.
By Intel's demo one can see that the unit is a notebook computer no keyboard and a reversed touchscreen. Patients may join and upload blood pressure monitors and other medical devices to communicate results with distant health care providers. Along with vital sign data collection, the health tracking software also provides individual reminders, surveys, educational content, and other communication tools.
Health Hero Network. It'll be interesting to see whether or the improved functionality like video conferencing and multimedia content are the key to promote adoption.
The actual barriers to adoption of remote monitoring and other chronic care plans may be less about performance compared to about institutional incentives and business models ingrained in our health care system. The health care marketplace with Medicare from the guide still rewards health care providers much more for treating the complications of chronic illness than it does for proactive monitoring and management aimed at preventing them.
The incentive systems that determine the viability of new models of health care empowered by devices such as the Intel Health Guide and the Bosch Health Buddy could be about to change, however. With positive results from the Medicare chronic care improvement demonstration project currently underway from Health Hero Network in Washington and Oregon, Medicare coverage for health care providers to provide home health monitoring services might be around the corner.
Steve Brown is an entrepreneur and active board member in advanced software and Internet businesses. He's the founder and former CEO of Health Hero Network, a pioneer in health and remote health monitoring, acquired by Bosch in 2007.
Health Guide - Understanding How the NHS Works
The National Health Service (NHS) was set up by the government to offer healthcare for all residents of the UK and is funded by general taxes. This support is based on people's need for healthcare rather than the ability to pay for it. Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland have their own different NHS services.
This guide will explain in simple terms how the NHS is structured, so you can better understand how to get the treatment that you or a member of your household need.
Department of Health and Its Authorities
The NHS is conducted by the Department of Health, which reports to the Secretary of State for Health.
In total, the Department of Health is in charge of NHS and social care delivery via the Strategic Health Authorities.
Strategic Health Authorities (SHAs)
These Authorities oversee the Trusts that operate NHS services in their regional areas. There are 10 of these in complete and their responsibilities include developing in addition to integrating plans to increase health services.
The main Trusts the Health Authorities watch over are as follows:
Primary Care Trusts (PCTs)
These are your first port of call in providing care when you've got a health problem and need to go to a physician. PCTs make sure that there are sufficient health services for people in their regional area. In total, their services include providing hospitals, dentists, opticians, mental health services, screening, pharmacies, NHS walk-in centers and patient transportation.
Acute Trusts
These Trusts have the responsibility of managing hospitals to make sure they're of high quality and effective at spending money. This may also include such services like training health professionals in universities and providing health centres, clinics or care at home in neighborhood communities.
Hospital and Foundation Trusts
Overall, there are 290 NHS Hospital Trusts who oversee 1 600 NHS hospitals and specialist care centers.
Foundation Trusts, which total 83 at present, are a new kind of NHS hospital especially tailored to local needs.
Ambulance Trusts
There are 13 Ambulance Trusts in England, while Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have different versions. These Trusts provide emergency access to health care - their emergency management room prioritises calls for an ambulance and determines what sort of reaction to send. They also offer transportation for patients needing to get to hospital for treatment.
Care Trusts
Care Trusts are a consequence of the NHS and local governments agreeing to work in partnership to create a closer relationship between health and social care.
Mental Health Trusts
In accordance with their name, these Trusts provide health and social care services for those who have mental health issues. These include health screening plus counselling and psychological treatments
Special Health Authorities
Unlike Strategic Health Authorities who concentrate on local services, the Special Health Authorities offer an NHS health service to the whole of England or the United Kingdom.
Their branches include the following. Agencies:
Medicines, Healthcare Products and Regulatory Agency (MHRA)
The MHRA grants licences for medicines so that they can be sold and modulates both medications and medical devices in the UK to make sure they meet certain criteria of safety, quality, functionality and effectiveness.
National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE)
NICE provides national guidance on the prevention and therapy of poor health. Additionally, it generates the guidelines on whether certain treatments are available on the NHS in England and Wales.
National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA)
NPSA is made up of three divisions which are specifically designed to help enhance patient safety in the NHS throughout the UK.
Health Protection Agency (HPA)
The HPA has three centers which protect the UK against infectious diseases and other dangers to public health like radiation and chemical risks. This includes providing expert training to help prepare emergency services nationally for major incidents.
Conclusion
The above overview on how the NHS is structured can help you know precisely who to contact for your particular healthcare and safety requirements. To make your research even easier, use Health Guides to find contact information for the various centers that can provide you with the perfect treatment.

my mum is getting annoyed that I dont want to join in on the streets’ whatsapp quiz and bingo this week, like of course I’m not going to join in on it I’m annoyed as fuck like just yesterday I had to fish out several of my clothes from the fucking bin because she decided they were “done”, she complains all the time that I’m eating her out the house, and a whole load of other shit that you could look through my tags for. Yet she expects me to just be all cool with it now and go back to “normal” like no, that’s not how this works, she’ll yell at me for pointless shit and then the next day or even later that night she’ll be fine and try to act normal and internally I’m just like “yeah no, I’m still annoyed, fuck off and leave me alone, everything isn’t all better just because you cooled off or some shit”
Nothing ever gets fucking processed in this house, like I haven’t trusted her with my mh ever, and I haven’t trusted her with anything serious since before I was 14, she doesn’t know shit about the stuff I’ve gone through like;
The depression causing me to miss school coupled with the anxiety of returning and having to explain and catch up on work, which turned into her yelling and hitting disciplining me instead of yknow getting me help so that became anger issues when I was 13-14, but then she would stop hitting me when it turned out I could hit back, and yet she didn’t think to get me professional help So she get my uncle a couple houses down to “help” her out but that never worked, so she got my now brother in law to “help” and when it turned out that she took me to his and my sisters house and left me so I would stay there and they would take me to school but I left my shoes in my mums car I decided to walk miles barefooted to go back to my house because that’s so normal and yet she didn’t think to get me professional help
That was when I knew I could never trust her with anything, In my 3rd year of highschool I had 30% attendence. And then I found a coping mechanism in self harm and that rose to 70% in my 4th year, she never knew about it because I would keep my arms hidden all the time and I still do to this day. She just thought I was “behaving” more now. and so she didn’t think to get me professional help.
Then in february 2012 I tried to kill myself, I failed and no one outside of my tumblr knew about it. I couldn’t tell my mum or ask for help because well, I couldn’t trust her and all the yelling and screaming had done nothing to change that over the years.
Ever since then it’s just been self harm for periods of time then stopping and thinking i’m doing better only to get worse and go back to it. My family would make comments on everytime I ate or made food and it got so bad for years that I would “eat my feelings” and I just got fatter and fatter, and now here I am the heaviest I’ve been and I have a fucking eating disorder. But that doesn’t stop my mum from constantly making me feel bad for eating
I got better with my long term girlfriend A, I was happier than normal and depression was less of a constant thing, but my anxiety was still super bad. We got together and it was great, I was in school more, I was happier, I had regular friends. And I had someone/where to escape to when I wanted away from my mum. But my anxiety never lessened and things fell apart and she broke up with me because she thought I was using her as a safety net and didn’t need to try. Now I think she’s dating the dude she kissed at the party we went to just before we broke up, nice. All our friends obviously stuck with her, one was her childhood friend fair, one was my best friend but he was in love with her sucks but understandable, and the others stayed with the group. nice
So now I’m in my 20′s,but in the years before I tried going to college for engineering bc I was pushed into in by my mum, did a year and didn’t wanna continue. So I did a year of computer science, dropped out halfway through but made a connection that became a good friend a couple years later. then I went to electrical engineering which I was forced to do, and I dropped that instantly. A year later, gf breaks up with me, and I’m starting my frist year in accountancy, still depressed, still anxious, still kinda decent weight but now i’m getting fatter and fatter since my teenage motabilism is slowing and I’m becoming an alcoholic to deal, self harm has been on and off, I’ve been threatened with homelessness more times than I can count,
This one is quick, after the split with A I became super alcoholic-y and eventually this girl I used to know from my pokemon days hit me up on twitter we got together for a little over a year, I even spent a month in vegas living with her during the summer, and a few days before new year I broke up with her. There was so much fighting in our relationship and she would emotionally manipulate me, and she’d say things like if we broke up she would never date again and all this other shit. But then my friend got me into playing siege which is how I met my current friend group of 2years now, but early on there was this discord server for all of us who played and met on the game to hang out on, there was a girl I started to like, and I brought a friend into the discord so we could all play together. She and I get super flirty and a couple months go by and we start dating, all is good but about a month goes by and my gf at the time and my current bestfriend plan to roadtrip from texas to arkansas to visit the friend I brought into the server for his birthday for a couple days, fair enough, I can’t visit but I hope they have fun, seems all good until a month later on my birthday a good friend of mine tells me that my gf and the friend I brought into the group fucked while she visited, the other friend knew nothing and was blackout for most of the partying, but it took a month to get to me. So I confront them, she admits it but is more concerned about how I found out. I confront my “friend” and he starts being apologetic until I lay into him for being a shitty friend, then he says that I should’ve expected it since it was long distance, and that he wasn’t the only one she cheated with, so that was a whole fun chapter. oh yeah, I figured she was acting sus when she hung out with guys irl so I developed paranoia for the first time and that shit sucked!!!!
I did 2 years of accountancy and I struggled at the end of the second, depresso and anxiety hit hard and I was missing classes and almost got kicked out, I stayed behind to make up work and finished a few days later than everyone with an A grade. I knew I wouldn’t be able to do a 3rd year, not that I even wanted to I was forced into this, so I tried telling my mum that I was gonna look for work and not do the third year yet, she didn’t like that and threatened to make me homeless or send to down to fucking england to livfe with the dad I text once a year. So I ssigned up to the course and got accepted, I went for a decent amount of time, but then I’d miss days, and it would get hard to catch up, so I missed more, then in december I stopped going and eventually was removed from the course. I pretended I was still going while I would just leave for hours and sit in a car park because I couldn;t take the abuse from her finding out. Eventually she did and it was a shit show, I went on benifits and then the summer I started working as a night porter.
Work was okay for the most part, except when I would set up continental breakfast buffet how the previous manager instructed me but then the morning manager would come in and I would get told off, this happened a few times before I learn to just do it for the person coming in and how they like it. Then I would deal with shitty customers who don’t know I can’t serve them booze or anything, or dealing with drunk customers pissing on the chair in the reception, or dealing with customer who get aggro when I can’t help them. Then I went on a fire safety course that taught me almost nothing about proper procedure and order of events that I should follow. Then one morning a steamy shower set off the fire alarm, I was in the restaurant which is seperate from the lodge and I couldn’t hear the alarm nor did my little buzzer go off even though it should’ve good fucking system huh and the manager evacuated the lodge, I panicked and did what I could to help. Then the GM came downstairs and said that’s why I went on the course so I could know what to do and made me feel like shit. A couple weeks later I quit becasue I couldn’[t handle that responsibility. I had some savings that I was gonna use to visit friends in america so I lived off that, but not before my family all asking me why I quit and as we know I can’t trust them because it’ll get back to my mum and I especially can’t trust her. Then my brother in law tries asking and I can’t tell him bc it will get back to my sister then to my mum, couldn’t tell my boss bc it would go from him to my other sister to my mum.
Then in january my savings are almost done, december 31st and my tooth is aching, I hopped it was rotten so I could get an infection straight to my brain to kill me, but 3 days pass and I’m in so much pain that meds don’t work, I’m over safe doses, I can’t sleep and I get super headaches that I almost pass out from. I cry in pain and eventually tell my mum who after some convincing realises how serious it is, she stays up the night, helping me phone emergency dental places or the NHS to try and get it removed. It was bad but it wasn’t infected and had no chance to kill me that way if any. She gets me a cold press and some ice to help with it and although I couldn’t get a dentist appointment until the morning she helped with it until then. I was finally feeling like this is how a mother should be, her kid crying and writhing in pain and her helping out, and I was starting to feel some trust for her for helping me when I needed her but she couldn’t help herself she had to make a snide comment that it’s because of all the fizzy juice and energy drinks that I drink. Just when I was hopeful she tears it all back. My back right top and bottom teeth get pulled, dentist was a great guy, and life went back to the same shit. I went to my benifits appointment and got signed up, I asked for an advance payment bc my mum was hounding me for money, so now my benifits are a bit lower than they should.
Then she argues with me about being late with payments even though I show her when I get paid and how much. and now we’re here, during this pandemic where the top part of this post was today. This is a good grasp of all the shit I’ve went through, it’s not everything but it’s the big stuff that I remember.......minus the whole ///R/// situation which I will likely never talk about, and now a quote from my mother which sparked me ranting instead of just about today but about my whole life
“All you do is cost me money”

NHS Dentist 111 Milton Keynes
NHS Emergency Dentist Milton Keynes
Sadly its not easy.
Calling NHS 111 usually results in being told that the patient needs to wait till their own dentist is open, which at weekends is very distressing.
  Urgent Dental Problem Milton Keynes
When a patient has a problem they usually want an appointment straight away.
The next choice is an appointment before or after work, and the third choice is on their day off.
At the same time the patient wants to decide if they can get an urgent appoint. We allow the patient to chose.
The NHS define need and most of the time they decline to treat patients even when they are in pain or have an urgent problem
Call 01908 690326 24 hours a day.
When We Are Closed?
We never are closed because we always answer the phone, and its almost always a dentist who can offer advice or an urgent appointment within a couple of hours.
Why choose The Milton Keynes Emergency Dental Walk In Service?
Quite simply we are the best!
Every day we have at least 3 very experienced emergency dentists who are available to do emergency dentistry. This is in addition to the other dentists providing general and specialist dental care everyday, 7 days a week.
We have designed our schedules so that we can see 96% of emergencies within 10 minutes of arrival 7 days a week.
We don’t squeeze patients in, we have dedicated emergency appointments all day.
The NHS Emergency Dentist Milton Keynes is another matter.
Everybody knows that NHS dentistry is under funded and overwhelmed by the needs of a growing city
NHS Dentistry in Milton Keynes have long waiting times, usually months, for dental patients in pain and requiring hospital treatment
The single biggest reason for admission to hospitals for children is a dental problem.
Children are refused NHS orthodontic treatments that they and their parents feel they need and being told that they must pay privately
Adults needing to see the hygienist for a cleaning are told told that they must pay privately
Patients requiring white filling are told the must have mercury fillings (that are banned in many European countries) or being told that they must pay privately
Patients requiring crowns are told that they must have metal crowns or that they must pay privately
Nervous patients who want sedation are told they have to wait months and NHS treatment options often involve long journeys.
Patients who require root canal are often given little choice but to have an extraction.
Patients who require specialist treatments are shunted down to London, only to be then told that there is no guarantee that they will ever be seen
Options for filling gaps between teeth exclude most of  the best options.
The local dental service for high needs patients is underfunded and overwhelmed by need.
Patients who think they are an emergency are told that the DO NOT MEET THE NHS REQUIREMENTS and must wait.
Many NHS dentists refer even the most simple dental extractions to the hospital services. (extractions that 20 years years ago would have been readily carried out in most general practices.)
Parents are often told that they can only register their children as NHS patients if they are registered as private patients themselves

Getting a little self-indulgent
I often see that post going round about women being misdiagnosed because Drs don’t listen to them or think they’re being hysterical and I add bits to it but I kinda just want to talk about my experience here. This is going to be kinda graphic and teeth related.
So when I was 7 I’d had some headaches/toothache for a little bit but not really done or said much about it and then one day my top gum started leaking pus and blood. A lot. Mum took me to an emergency dentist who said I had an infection and gave me some antibiotics. A few weeks, maybe even only a week later it happened again, a lot. So mum took me to the dentist who said it looked like some sort of cyst or something in the gum area, but sent me to the hospital to check. X-Ray or two later and it was diagnosed as a cyst in my upper maxilla with an adult tooth that had grown up instead of down and was pressing on the nerves around my eye .The orthodontist shortly before slipping and sending the anaesthetic needle through the front of my lip rather than into my gum used this exact phrase to a 7 year old “if we don’t remove it you’ll go blind” so I had it removed through a Caldwell-Luc operation (don’t google this when eating or about to have one), they removed some jaw bone and removed the cyst and tooth.  Boom all fixed.
At 13 I wanted straight teeth, so I went to the orthodontist who took an x-ray and told me I couldn’t have a brace (I already had a retainer) because there was a gap in my jaw bone and I’d have to have a bone graft from my hip. So I declined this. I wanted straight teeth but not that much, this will very much come back to bite me in the arse later.
I felt lethargic, unwell, sore, headachey, nauseous, tired, angry, achey, tight in the jaw for a while, through uni, and early work days. It got worse and worse, my jaw started to get stuck so i couldn’t open it, my neck would start burning, I’d feel like my shoulders were on fire, I’d feel so impossibly exhausted. I started going for tests it was not: thyroid, cancer, a tumour on my adrenal gland, kidneys, diabetes, ME, CFS, Fibromyalgia, hypoglycaemia. Ferritin stores result came back very low. Took iron tablets, this didn’t fix it. Was referred to Maxillo-facial (henceforth macsfacs) who deemed it to be temporomandibular joint disorder. The consultant who diagnosed me also had TMJ and said on a bad flare up he’d rather get booted in the balls. Well that pain level seemed to tally with the pain I was feeling. So I took the tablets and hoped I’d learn to live with it. I did not. The pain got worse, I missed days and days of work. I would have attacks of pain for no reason, nothing would trigger them, or there’d be a draft at work and all of a sudden I’d lose three days due to pain so bad I couldn’t speak. I’d forget how words worked, I told someone I liked their sheep - I meant shoes. I’d start trembling, and lose feeling in my hands and feet, I start slurring my words, I’d pass out. Then I’d be mostly fine, sore and achey but fine really. But I kept going back to my doctor, and off for the next round of tests. I finally went to see macfacs and I saw an old, white male consultant, who sat in front of me as I cried hysterically and explained to him that the pain was so bad that I was going to step in front of a bus because it was intolerable and I will never forget what he said to me “well, I think you’re probably exaggerating, it’s not that painful or you wouldn’t be able to do half the things you do” I sort of gold-fished, and he said he was standing by the junior consultants diagnoses of TMJ and that I’d “get used to it eventually”. A few months later I was sitting outside my BSL course when I had one of my fits, I couldn’t feel my feet, I couldn’t say anything, I couldn’t ask for help. I was terrified. It passed, I was exhausted but I got through the class. I walked home.
I called my mum at 2am the next morning, screaming down the phone that I was dying and didn’t know what I was doing, I kept asking her for help but gave her no instructions or anything, largely because I didn’t know I’d called her and left a voicemail on her machine. I think somehow texted my housemate with just the word ‘help’. She came bounding upstairs and helped. She tried asking me questions but I was out of it, I was just screaming, and she called my Mum who was already panicked trying to get a taxi after being woken up by her only child screaming into her answerphone that she was dying. I guess my dad was in respite at this point I don’t know. Eventually my housemate called an ambulance and they did the usual questions and determined I was probably having a stroke. Spoiler alert: I was not. The ambulance came, and the little man on the bike, and the slightly smaller ambulance - it felt unnecessary for 4 people to come out but they did and it cost me not a penny BECAUSE THE NHS IS FUCKING INCREDIBLE!!!!, and they took me downstairs whilst I flailed about and reassured my other housemate whom I worked with that I’d be ‘in tomorrow just a bit late’. I don’t really remember too much except a) gas and air is fucking incredible! b) i kept telling my mum and the man with the bleeding face next to me that I’d left my keys at home and I wasn’t wearing a bra. I eventually got seen and by this point the pain was subsiding and I kept apologising profusely but the A+E doctor pointed out that I’d experienced pain severe enough that a dispatcher and 4 paramedics (one of whom really thought I should have been admitted for a brain scan not put through A+E but it was 3 am so...) thought I was having a stroke. Not to worry but here were some lovely drugs.
A few weeks later I saw my doctor again who this time thought it might be ME as nothing else was tying in but wanted to just rule out anything neurological so referred me to another Dr who as I described things listened and then sent me for a different scan. I got a referral through to ENT because it turned out there was a piece of bone in my face that shouldn’t be there. Basically the boney part of the cyst from when I was 7, they’d only removed the soft tissue. So I had an operation and they removed that. Some of the pain stopped. I didn’t have the same issues but it still didn’t feel right. I ended up seeing a locum as my doctor was off with their own medical issues. I kept saying it feels like there’s some swelling in my face and so I got two courses of antibiotics because eventually they referred me back. Another scan. Then an appointment out of nowhere with macfacs.
Turns out macfacs has done a lot of reshuffling because everyone is new and when I mention the old guy they all go ‘ah yeah, he’s gone now’ with the strong implication that he was a cunt - possibly my inference but whatever. Turns out I had a tumour in my face. It’s benign in almost all cases, mine included thank god, but it’s rare 3% of the population get it, and almost always men, and it’s aggressive it’s main deal is that it recurs. I had one when I was 7, in 2012 and in 2015. It gets into bone and takes over. It’s why after my first operation my bone didn’t heal and I have a hole in my jawbone now. Like I said... shoulda got that brace! They’d have seen what was going on then. So I had another operation at Xmas in 2015.  I had the bone inside my upper maxilla, removed and sanded down, the nerves scraped or removed, and painted with essentially embalming fluid, I lost a tooth because the fluid touched it. It was a joint op between ENT and macfacs. I have to go back every year for 10 years and there’s something lurking but it seems to be just the weird shape I’ve healed into but I’m not taking it for granted. I still get some pain and flare ups because my bone is still regrowing. I can’t feel my top left lip at all or a lot of my cheek either. I have a permanently damaged shoulder because of hunching with the pain. I know now because they told me that I had trigeminal neuralgia as a symptom of this tumour, which it’s rare that it would have a tumour as an underlying cause but I did. It can flare up from eating, from the wind on your face or from nothing at all. I explained to person after person what I was feeling and it took so long to get a diagnosis and a fix. The only reason I got it was because of my Doctor who listened and persisted. She’s a female doctor. There are three other female medical professionals in this story. The paramedic who thought I should have a brain scan, the A+E doctor who told me my pain was valid and the neurologist who listened and thought to send me for a different type of scan. They all listened to what I was saying, or slurring. My doctor kept trying, she didn’t abandon me, she really did everything she could. Including handing me copious amounts of tissues whilst I hysterically sobbed at her. So many of the male doctors I saw and see regularly now are lovely and so kind but I had to fight to get them to listen, they had to be shown evidence before they’d believe me.
I am so grateful that this whole debacle was on the NHS it didn’t impact me financially, I was able to work, I am very aware of the privileges I have but it’s only now as I start to feel fully better (well, the iron is still an issue), and have a friend experiencing migraines so look up things for her that I start to realise how much shit I went through and how angry I am that something that should have been solved when I was 13 was only solved when I was 29. If you know something isn’t right with your body keep persisting, get someone to come in with you - preferably a man, change doctors if you have to and you have that luxury, ask for a second opinion.
And finally, if one more person says ‘oh it’s like having a wisdom tooth out’ I am going to fucking put pressure on their trigeminal nerve!!!!
