ch. 2 - love food critic m.list

    atsumu shuts his car door, pushing up his sunglasses so they're sitting on his nose properly. he looks both ways in the parking lot, ready to walk past once the last few cars pass by. as he stands there patiently, he finally notices the shop to onigiri miya's left. it's colors look beautiful, the paintings on the windows clearly created with a lot of love. 

  however, the thing that he notices most is someone standing in the front, assisting customers. he can notice her with an apron on, clay smudged on her like it's a daily occurrence. atsumu starts walking across the road but he can't seem to keep his eyes off of you or the shop. something about her draws him in, even if he's never cared for pottery or creating it. 

  for a second, he considers popping in for just a moment and buying something just to see what it's like. to see what you're like. the only thing stopping this magnetic pull is osamu's promise of free food for him to taste test. atsumu grabs a hold of onigiri miya's handle, opening the door while still taking a peek at the mystery woman's shop.

  for some reason, in all the construction and want of food, he never noticed the shop next door. the entire building completely wiped from his memory. now though, he can't imagine forgetting it...

  finally entering onigiri miya, he can already smell the intense savory flavor of his food, the pork frying and sauces being added. raising his hand, astumu waved to the cashier, making his way to the kitchen. it's fairly empty this time of day, only the morning stragglers are sitting around with small bits of food on their plates.

  "'samu! you have any free food for me?" he rests his hands on his hips, watching as osamu forms some onigiri.

  osamu looks up at his twin, an unenthusiastic expression smeared across his face, "no, not unless you're paying. the cashier does tell me when you convince him to give you free food. you're only getting samples by the way."

  "he's a liar, just so you know. like a big fat liar," atsumu steps up to one of the counters, resting his hand on the corner as he watches osamu wrap some seaweed around the rice, "but beyond that, when'd ya get the hot neighbor?"

  without skipping a beat, osamu looks up at his brought, nearly dropping the onigiri in his hand. never had atsumu seen his brother act like this. his immediate attention, the fumbling on air when he's made it onigiri a million times. "do you mean at the pottery shop?" he takes in a breath, turning back to the food. 

  "yeah! ain't she pretty? if it weren't for this taste testing thing, that sounds like a scam since it's just 'samples', i would've said something to her."

  osamu bites the inside of his cheek, setting the onigiri on a plate and handing it off to the server. he hardly looks at his brother as he tries to imagine you and atsumu going out. getting married, possibly even having kids one day. and all osamu could do is watch from the sidelines in disbelief. 

  "mmmh yeah, she is. but she doesn't really like the business or so it seems.. so she probably wouldn't like you due to association," he shrugs his shoulders, finally looking up at his brother who has his eyes wide.

  without saying anything else, atsumu walks up to his brother, slapping his shoulder, "you've got a crush, don't ya? on the pottery girl?"

  "no! no i don't!" osamu pushes atsumu away from him, shaking his head belligerently. 

  "ohh suna's gonna eat this up! but i'm totally right about this. it's the whole twin intuition thing, y'know? that's why i wanted to meet her, to set her up with ya!" atsumu reaches to grab his phone, eager to tell their friends all about the crush his brother has seemed to gain. 

  osamu rolls his eyes, knowing he's unable to stop his brother's rambunctious behavior. sure he likes to see you when you both get deliveries. or when he sees you come in for the morning before your classes. but the idea that he has a crush completely goes over his head, running wild through the wind. 

  instead of focusing his mind of what won't be, he grabs the food that he wants atsumu to try. it's a tray of different onigiri flavors and some different glazed pork examples. it looks beautiful and tender, hopefully wonderful enough to pull atsumu's mind from the supposed high-school type crush that osamu doesn't have.

  "set down your phone, would you?" osamu sets down the tray, raising an eyebrow at his brother, "tell me which ones you think are the best."

  "so what doesn’t she like about it? every girl likes a guy that can cook,” atsumu completely ignores osamu’s indignation, grabbing a piece of pork and popping it into his mouth. 

  biting his lip, osamu shrugs, bringing his hand up to scratch the back of his neck. he knows exactly why you don’t like it, the crowds and loud noises that come from the nearly finished construction, “i think she enjoys the quiet more, but a new restaurant is anything but that.”

  atsumu grabs another piece of pork, letting osamu work out his thoughts externally. as he talks, atsumu immediately thinks to himself that osamu cares for the girl next door. his voice softens as he discusses the idea of paying extra to have them finish construction early. even if it isn’t love or some strong emotion, something about her brings out another side of osamu. 

  “ya totally have a crush on her.”

  “just eat your food and write down which ones are best!”

“we’re a little bit early don’t you think?”

it’s late september and you’re pushing your little wheelbarrow into the green fields. this thing on wheels is a little worse for wear, having gone through years and years of autumns — from childhood and being pushed around it in while you could barely walk, till now, more than ten years have passed since then.

kiyoko smiles, jutting out her chin towards the empty patches of land, ���earlier the better might be the move.”

“true, everyone and their grandma’s gonna be here the closer we get to halloween.”

there’s no one around early in the day, and maybe because it’s just touching the cusp of october, it’s still warm enough for a pair of shorts and a cute brick orange sweater for the mood, the air not quite brisk enough for chills just yet. it’s perfect.

“oh look they have the blue ones too!” you excitedly point into the near distance, speeding up your pushing and jogging up past the sign to peer down and get a closer look, “they call these the zombie looking ones!”

crouching down and poking at a firm one, you dust off the dirt and soil, musing to yourself how this one’s solid, and when you try picking it up by the stems and have it just snap, drop and roll away, kiyoko's soft laughs float through the wind like a nightingale’s summer song, filling the air with a warmth akin to a scarf tucked neatly under your chin.

as you let out shocked squeal and laugh at the ridiculousness of it all, kiyoko thinks this is one of the times she finds you most beautiful — with crescents for eyes and a wide toothy grin despite the dirt between your fingers and nearly a broken toe if the pumpkin did in fact land on your foot, a gentle breeze combing through your hair as you flip it up and away from your face with a jerk of your neck.

bending down to pluck a wildflower from it's roots, she steps closer to push a loose strand behind your ear and tuck the little flora in it's place with it, not missing the way your smile widens ever so slightly and a pretty pink dusts your cheeks.

she takes a second to soak it all in and captures the scene with her eyes, secretly regretting not bringing along her camera to immortalise this moment.

I hit 30 tags bc I started yapping again right after putting my "ness' favorites" tags BC THIS WAS SO GOOD AAAA!!!!!!!

☼༄ ch. 2 - the second screw up m.list

    rain pours onto the roof, pattering down in a sporadic pattern. wiping your face with your hand, you listen to the sound of yachi snoring beside you. it’s soft, matching that of her kinder side, however, it’s just loud enough that it lingers in your mind. buzzing like an incessant fan that just won’t turn off no matter how hard you push the pillow against your ear.

  standing up, the bed creaks, yachi stirring as she flips around. for a moment, the room is quiet besides the soothing rain. the moment ends quickly as she starts back up again, situated in a similar situation that her airways just barely let out the irritating noise. biting your lip, you slip on your slippers, heading for the door.

  the balcony, from what you could remember, was covered. perfect for gazing into the storm and relaxing before the next long day. twisting the handle, you slowly open the door to hopefully not wake yachi. the door inches open as you look out at the night sky covered with a blanket of clouds. the only thing ruining the situation is oikawa leaning against the railing. 

  his arms are crossed in front of them, elbows leaning against the wood. his foot is crossed over the other one, head turning to look at the foreign noise. oikawa’s eyes meet yours and you realize there’s no turning back now. “hey,” his voice is silent compared to how it normally sounds, not as grating.

  “hi,” you step out of the motel room, shutting the door behind you. 

  walking up to the railing, you stare out at the rain, feeling a light dusting of mist on your face. you can’t bear to look at him this close, the stress probably killing you. “didn’t expect anyone else to be out here,” you purse your lips, looking down at the pool. 

  the lights inside look beautiful under the moving water, splashering effortlessly. “yeah, hinata’s killing me.. he-”

  “kicks in his sleep? we’ve had enough sleepovers as kids for me to know that,” you finally look over at him, seeing a look of surprise across his face, a slight smile hiding beneath his opened mouth.

  oikawa nods, bringing one of his hands up to run through his hair. a cowlick forming from him laying down for the past few hours. you look back out at the sky and take in a deep breath, smelling a mix of his cologne and the fresh air of night. compared to earlier, it has a softer smell, more natural. “well at least someone understands,” he just barely nudges your shoulder.

one of my favorites bc it's basically a self insert 😭😭 it's honestly helped me realize so much about myself and is such a comfort fic for me!! i've read a few fics that seem to capture this feeling of like looking back on a time long ago, which is sort of like fond nostalgia? sort of like if you were married and think back to how you married your spouse, or sitting on a rooftop with your best friend and thinking about how you guys were in your younger days if that makes sense. i love that feeling of it being like your reading a story that happened some time ago, and isn't happening currently, and that's what try again feels like to me. the therapist-client dynamic and messy characters is so important to me, AND U GUYS HAVE NO IDEA WHAT KIND OF SELF INDULGENCE TRAUMA DUMP IS COMING SOON <3 (sorry this sounds so aggressive omg)

yes but to an extent. we do really enjoy pda and are very much attached to the hip, but we arent very overt with it. think more hand/arm holding, arms around each other when sitting, legs touching but not as much kissing or touching or anything like that. we're both on the shyer side with that stuff but can't stay away from each other lmfao

veryyy often. it took us a while to actually say it, we both had felt it for a while but didn't want to be too forward, so once we realized it we had to make up for lost time. i am really big on having it be intentional though, and not becoming a habit thing and he's very good with that. its both quality and quantity bc he is perfect

i was the one who admitted i had feelings for him first, bc i always am. i had convinced myself he wasn't aware of how much i liked him since he hadn't done anything, but i was obsessing over him so much i knew i had to do it. was shitting myself, he just looked at me with a little shit eating grin and was like 'yeah, i know. i like you too.' and then returned to the movie and i punched him in the face

however, he was the one who said i love you first and i was in hard core denial. like i knew i loved him, but i once again convinced myself someone as perfect as him couldn't love me the same way and then he just popped it out of the blue and yeah i cried. made him repeat it like a billion times just to get it through my head
