You can consider this one an unofficial addition to tisfan's Also Prey story, since that's the 'verse I was thinking of while I wrote it. You don't need to have read it to read this, though.

Shapeshifters AU / Marvel - Winteriron / Ornament

Tony enjoyed the winter holidays, for the most part. More, since the team had moved in with him. There was always an enormous tree in the lobby of the tower, and smaller trees in the public areas of every floor, and a couple of them in his workshop. There were professional decorators who put up the decorations in most of the tower, but on the Avengers’ floors, Tony did the vast majority of it himself.

Sam theorized it was because all the shiny lights and sparkling baubles were irresistible to Tony’s cat. Steve thought it was because all the trees provided convenient hiding spots for the cat when it was feeling jumpy about being surrounded by so many larger predators.

Bucky didn’t really care why, as long as his boyfriend was happy. He went out and bought ornaments for the tree in the Avengers’ common space -- there were already several of the official ornaments on it, but the city was full of people selling bootleg varieties of varying quality that looked nothing like the staid, marketing-approved ones.

He hung them on the tree and watched as the others noticed them, one by one, exclaiming with delight or laughter.

The next day, Bucky stumbled over a shop that sold ornaments in animal shapes, and for a small extra fee, you could have them painted. Most people probably got paint jobs that matched their own natural markings, or those of their loved ones. But Bucky stood on the sidewalk for a good ten minutes, looking over all the examples, before finally giving up and yielding to the impulse.

A week or so later, he carefully hung ornaments on the tree that matched each of his teammates’ wyr forms -- and which had been painted to look like they were wearing versions of their hero costumes.

Those got even bigger reactions. Steve had done one of those whole-body laughs, his hand over his heart like he thought it was going to burst out of his chest with joy. Natasha had eyed hers from every angle before taking it down and re-hanging it in a different spot -- a little more shadowy, but, Bucky noticed, well-placed to be perfectly visible from her favorite spot on the couch. Sam had demanded to know where Bucky’d gotten them, and gone off to commission more for his family.

Tony, on the other hand... He walked all the way around the tree, several times, peering into the branches like he expected something to jump out at him. Then he’d blurred into his wyr and wriggled up under the lowest branches and started climbing the tree.

Bucky watched cautiously -- the trees were all well-braced against climbing creatures, but Tony frequently thought he could disobey the laws of physics in both of his forms.

Bucky was so careful watching for him that he almost missed it when Tony’s ornament fell off the tree to the floor, batted by one delicate paw.

“Hey,” he complained.

The branches rustled and Tony jumped to the floor, then delicately took the ornament’s hook in his mouth and padded off with it.

“Hey,” Bucky said again.

Tony ignored him, tail high and twitching, as he stalked out of the room.

Maybe Tony hadn’t found them quite as amusing as Bucky had.

The next day, Bucky came into the room to find Tony sitting on the couch, reading on his tablet. “Hey, babe,” he said.

Without looking up, Tony tossed something at him; Bucky fumbled a bit, catching it. It looked like a ball of bubble wrap and tissue paper. “This seems more your speed than mine,” Bucky said, grinning.

“Open it.”

Bucky turned the ball over and found a bit of tape holding the whole thing closed. He peeled it loose, then carefully unrolled everything to reveal... Tony’s Ironwyr ornament. Bucky blinked at it, then looked back up at Tony.

Tony turned off the tablet and dropped it onto the cushion beside him, then held up another ornament. A wolf, dark-furred, dressed to match Bucky’s black-and-silver costume. “You forgot one,” Tony said.

“Oh.” Bucky shrugged uncomfortably. “I’m not--”

“Don’t say whatever you’re about to say,” Tony advised. “Go on and hang it,” he added, gesturing to the tree.

Bucky looked at Tony, then at the tree, then at the ornament, and back to the tree. “Okay...” He stepped over to the tree and carefully hung the little Ironwyr on a central branch.

Tony stepped up and hung the Winter Wyr next to it, carefully twisting the cord until the two ornaments were lightly bumping, nose to nose. Almost like they were kissing.

“Much better,” Tony said, and threaded his arm through Bucky’s. “Mine was lonely without yours there.”

it’s the funniest thing to me that everyone supports an underdog driver till they actually perform exceptionally well.

take lando for example. he was the fan favourite when he had the midfield car, and was still consistently getting podiums or finishing in points. the second he got his first win, so many people switched and forced an egoistic attitude personality on him without even knowing if he’s got such an attitude or not. and then, everyone ran with it. so it became that when he celebrated his wins, he was egoistic, and when he didn’t celebrate his wins, he was ungrateful.

franco is one of lando fans’ fav, because franco reminds us of lando a lot. while he is loved right now, other fans would switch up on him soon and then force an image on him because it fits their narrative.

people hate on lando because of an image they added themselves, but not because his driving, because his driving is actually good. it’s beautiful.

and till the time, people were happy with their fav winning and their fav loving this little underdog dude. now that this underdog dude is defeating their fav and their fav still loves this little underdog dude, people can’t handle it, as if it’s a crime committed against them.

i have so much to say about this issue.

branching off of this post, which captures the entire saga perfectly, i think max fans see lando an inferior, lesser than. granted, lando doesn't have as many wins, doesn't have a wdc yet, but i'm talking 'he must always stay beneath max because that's where he belongs'. it very much boggled me when people started liking lando all over again when the contention (that wasn't even contention since mclaren weren't aiming for it in the first place; lando just so happened to be that good that he was crawling his way up and suddenly the were fighting not only for the wcc, but half-heartedly for the wdc too) was over in las vegas.

this is why i do not take any max fan seriously. i watched them batter this man to pieces in every post they made, wish death upon a man that didn't even do shit, just for them to do a whole 360 and claim they 'like him again'.

saying that he bottled the championship, which is genuinely the most deranged, degenerate thing i've heard because to bottle something, you actually have to be in the advantageous position (read: p fucking 1). which he never was. so this definitely told me that a) people were very much not smart enough to know the meaning off the word 'bottle', and b) they were all just leeching of what each other had said and posting it because they have no competent bone in their body to be independent.

ruined him so bad just for it all to be over something so stupid, for all of his antis to hop off the hate train only because he's not challenging max; it's like they forget the fundamental of this sport, which is competition. max is not always going to dominate, seeing as how many strong prospects are now coming to the grid (and are also having their time to shine after being in the dark for so long). and they need to find some other way to manage that frustration because it's irritating to watch them take lando's words out of context just villainise him.

now, could you argue that all of is this due to the fact that lando had been in a midfield car for so long, that now he has a competing car for basically the first season, people are outraged that someone with no winning experience placed so high? maybe. very much all ifs and buts, but i'm leaning more towards the idea that they just can't believe someone who doesn't act like your sterotypical 'wdc' can contend, or even win it.

proof is in the pudding (twitter, tumblr, instagram). they will yield lando's mental health, the fact that he's so self-critical, the fact that he practised sportsmanship and gave oscar the sprint win, to call him unready, soft, 'mentally weak' to quote some. but then they'll switch up when lando's finally confident about his performance calling him stuck up and egotistic.

max fans are the biggest cowards when it comes to accepting that their fave is, in fact, not untouchable, not the weird god they make him out to be. so they find the need to result to lying about lando to deal with it, and since everyone just acquiescents to it all, other drivers' fans that aren't even affected but just need to hate someone, end up joining the bandwagon as well.

and i fear the same will happen to franco. i've always had it nipping at the back of my mind, because everyone loves him right now. yes, he's in a shit car, and there's nothing he can do about that, but the second he'll starting showing up and properly competing, the fabrications people will hold against this man are inevitable. so many fans do not realise that because you're in a shit car, does not mean you're a shit driver, and that that your results are very limited depending on how inert the car is. hence, they're clouded by that image they've already got about the driver. when franco gets into a team with a better car, they'll still see him as the underdog and think he's unworthy how high he'll place (like we all know he will).

kiyoko smiles, jutting out her chin towards the empty patches of land, “earlier the better might be the move.”

there’s no one around early in the day, and maybe because it’s just touching the cusp of october, it’s still warm enough for a pair of shorts and a cute brick orange sweater for the mood, the air not quite brisk enough for chills just yet. it’s perfect.

“oh look they have the blue ones too!” you excitedly point into the near distance, speeding up your pushing and jogging up past the sign to peer down and get a closer look, “they call these the zombie looking ones!”

crouching down and poking at a firm one, you dust off the dirt and soil, musing to yourself how this one’s solid, and when you try picking it up by the stems and have it just snap, drop and roll away, kiyoko's soft laughs float through the wind like a nightingale’s summer song, filling the air with a warmth akin to a scarf tucked neatly under your chin.

as you let out shocked squeal and laugh at the ridiculousness of it all, kiyoko thinks this is one of the times she finds you most beautiful — with crescents for eyes and a wide toothy grin despite the dirt between your fingers and nearly a broken toe if the pumpkin did in fact land on your foot, a gentle breeze combing through your hair as you flip it up and away from your face with a jerk of your neck.

bending down to pluck a wildflower from it's roots, she steps closer to push a loose strand behind your ear and tuck the little flora in it's place with it, not missing the way your smile widens ever so slightly and a pretty pink dusts your cheeks.

she takes a second to soak it all in and captures the scene with her eyes, secretly regretting not bringing along her camera to immortalise this moment.

Dragos Takes a Holiday

Manic pixie dream babies tend to annoy me. This child is 3 months old. Even if he is meeting six month milestones, what do you mean he’s responding to English like he understands it? He never goes on a crying jag until you just can’t handle it? Or cries, like, ever? He takes four hour, predictable naps during the day and you have the energy to do anything other than sleep? Plus no mention of copious drooling (he’s teething!) or spitting up (babies are gross for a long time). Although I do adore that Liam has Pia’s ability to get through any lock. They will really have to oay the babysitters more. Oracle’s Moon was a much more realistic picture of early parenthood. Also, ma’am—I am side eyeing the sheer amount of alcohol you are consuming while nursing. Maybe baby dragon Wyr metabolism is different? Yeah, yeah, it’s fantasy. But constantly being turned on for sex on a regular basis at this stage? While breast feeding? Nah. My suspension of disbelief only goes so far 😊.

That said, I really like how Pia’s version of going on vacation with Dragos is to go somewhere he can explore his solo hobby on his own, and she’s completely non-fussed that he expects to spend hours away from them. It’s true love that recognizes a family vacation doesn’t mean everyone has to love spending every minute of vacation together. Pia and Dragos are a good couple. And the kid is actually kinda cute.

Bottom line: it stretches credulity, but for a silly little dragon-going-treasure-hunting story it’s pretty fun.

Pia Saves the Day

Rich people porn is always a trip. Amnesia! It’s a classic trope for a reason. What could be better than a love story, except for a new love story with the characters we love? Amnesia-Dragos being jealous of nonAmnesia-Dragos over Pia is so tragically beautiful. The fact that he almost immediately recognizes her as the real treasure to hoard. And yeah, Pia is the best.

Bottom line: the peanut remains a manic pixie dream child, but otherwise this was surprisingly sincere and lovely.

Peanut Goes to School

Manic pixie dream child is still manic pixie dream child. And a prodigy, of course. Yeah, he’s also adorable and kinda grows on me, but could he throw an tantrum or something normal from time to time? Anyone ever bullied by a teacher at school will appreciate the outcome of this story.

Bottom line: this could be the plot of basically any kids PBS show.
