We The Kings : Strange Love Review
We The Kings are an American rock 5-piece from Florida. Band members include: Travis Clark on lead vocals, Hunter Thomsen on lead guitar, Danny Duncan on Drums, Charles Trippy on Bass and Coley O’Toole on keyboard. Releasing their debut self-titled album in 2007 with the platinum single “Check Yes Juliet”, reached over 250,000 sales. 6 studio recorded albums later and they are currently on their 10 year tour around America and UK. Strange Love starts with the track “Love Again”. It’s very upbeat and a song you’d want to hear at a party of festival. It’s catchy vocals mean you’ll most definitely get this song stuck in your head. The second track “Howl At The Moon” is one of my favourites on the album. It has a different sound than the rest of the album and is one that will catch your ear when the drums and guitar kick in during the chorus. “Completely” is a great song to but on an upbeat love song playlist. The lyrics are dominated by love but much like “Love again” the heartening feel of the song is something you can’t miss. “Heaven So Close” is another one of my favourites from this album. I find myself having this song stuck in my head quite a bit. With a continuous positive feel, this love song is perfect for you and your friends to jam out to. “Xo” is another different style of song on the album. I have very mixed opinions on this one. I love the dynamic of the chorus but I’m not too keen on the style of backing music. However, the help of vocals from Elena Coats, helps the album have a completely different twist. Her vocals strengthen the song a lot. The next song “From Here To Mars” brings back the We The Kings sound back into the album. The lead guitar in the bridge makes the song feel very energetic, I think this is the song that describes the album for me. “All The Way” follows on “From Here To Mars” and allows the album to feel flat out lively and perky. The 8th song on the album “Jenny’s Song” slows down the album as we reach the end but it’s a song you’ll catch a tear to. The dedicated song pours out emotion and makes your heart throb. Similarly the song “She” follow an alike meaning. “She” is much louder and really makes a statement from “Jenny’s song” The last track on the album “Runaway” I think is my favourite from the album. It slows right down, to end the album. The love song rips out every piece of emotion and the addition of an orchestra behind really adds to the emotion running behind this song. It’s a powerful song to end this album. ***Best of the 1st Half of 2021: SONG EDITION***
Six months into 2021 and since 2020 wrapped up...some things in the world have changed, while other things remain the same (for better or worse). Folks, it’s time to talk about rap music in 2021...
Tumblr media
One trend definitely has continued well into 2021: the underground rap world - I’m talking the artists, the aesthetic, the sound, the full projects, every box you can think of - continues to kick the mainstream rap world’s ass. There are already signs of the two imaginary separate worlds intermingling more and more, and we will have to deal with the pros and cons of that down the line...but one thing is for sure: rap music runs deeper, and more sonically diverse than ever before, and as long as there is an internet to enlist the ears and talents of artists from all over the world, the art form will continue to divide, change shape, borrow from the old and add some new, again and again. And we will all be better for it.
So let’s dive right in. As usual there are about 1,000 more songs that I would love to cram into this list, but there are only so many spots...and I’m married with a toddler, so even though I am listening to rap music for a concerningly large portion of my day, it takes a lot of extra coffee and less sleep to keep these posts going (but it’s still worth it, I love connecting with folks over the same under-discussed but ridiculously dope songs and artists).
There are many lists but none quite like this one, here is THE RAP PUNDIT’S LIST OF THE BEST RAP SONGS FROM THE FIRST HALF OF 2021....hope you find some joints you never heard before and really enjoy.  And to all of the MCs, Producers, mixers, singers, curators, readers, writers, critics - anyone that contributes something to this music I love....thank you, as always. 🙏
[Bonus joint] 55. “GANG GANG” - Polo G feat. Lil Wayne
https://soundcloud.com/polo-g/polo-g-lil-wayne-gang-gang?in=polo-g/sets/hall-of-fame-675200176
[Bonus joint] 54. “Furious Styles” - Illa Styles feat. Nickelus F https://illastyles.bandcamp.com/track/furious-styles-ft-nickelus-f
[Bonus joint] 53. “Box of Churches” - Pooh Sheisty feat. 21 Savage
https://soundcloud.com/ceo-mrpooh/box-of-churches-feat-21-savage
[Bonus joint] 52. “Beating Down Yo Block” - Monaleo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnMPEfV0bSA
[Bonus joint] 51. “BUZZERBEATER” - Rahiem Supreme feat. Al.Divino & Estee Nack
https://franksvinylrecords.bandcamp.com/track/buzzerbeater-feat-al-divino-estee-nack
50. "A Man Apart” - Rx Papi
https://soundcloud.com/rxpapi/a-man-apart-prod-by-noisy?in=rxpapi/sets/100-miles-walkin
(Face it: you’re either feelin’ the Rx flow or you’re not. The endlessly quotable MC is not always taken seriously, but similar to how the saddest clowns are most adept at masking their pain behind a smile, Papi needs to be taken seriously as a talented rap artist.)
49. “Moving On Up” - Evidence feat. Conway The Machine
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5F35OOXvQ4c
(Evidence, Babu, Daringer and Conway all joining forces on a record feels like a timeline altering reach between two completely different generations of elite underground hip-hop artists, but in the case of “Moving On Up”, it’s not just a “hey wouldn’t it be dope if” fantasy, it’s a sweet reality. Ev has connected with the Griselda camp before and of course the results are dope. Add this one to the list, one of the many fine moments off of Unlearning Vol. 1.)
48. “Gordon Ramsay Freestyle” - Remble
https://soundcloud.com/remble2/gordon-ramsay-freestyle-prod-by-laudiano
(An attention grabbing MC if ever I heard one, Remble clearly hails from the same camp as Drakeo The Ruler - Stinc Team - but with that flow and sense of humor, he may develop a lot more than just a strong following out on the West Coast. Look out for Remble, he is knocking on the door of blowing, he’s just one key feature away...)
47. “The Shifts” - maassai feat. AKAI SOLO
https://maassai.bandcamp.com/track/the-shifts-feat-akai-solo
(If you haven’t checked out one of 2021′s most quietly impressive albums, I cannot recommend With The Shifts enough.)
46. “BOXINABACK” - Bris feat. Alphie Blood
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3ai7WYivGo
(The career of Sacramento’s Bris was really beginning to pick up momentum in 2020...sadly, he was killed the same year. I cannot pretend to be an expert in the Sscramento rap scene, I just know that it’s been bubbling for a while, and this song really captured my attention as soon as I heard it. RIP, Bris.)
45. “Last Day Out” - Rio Da Yung OG
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sB51CUUod1w
(Right before Rio Da Yung OG entered the penitentiary, he dropped “Last Day Out”, a song that perfectly captures what the rap game will be missing while he’s gone - and more brutal honesty than we are accustomed to hearing from Flint, Michigan’s punchline killer.)
44. “Thousand Miles” - MAVI
https://mavi.bandcamp.com/track/thousand-miles
(The whole EP is impressive, but I think this joint most actually captures MAVI’s rhyme skills, flow and song writing ability. With young talent like this bubbling up from the underground scene, the future of rap music is as strong as ever.)
43. “Appletree” - Valee & KiltKarter
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPO2AXgZMSc
(Not necessarily a vibe that everyone will be into...but one that if you are into it, you will reap the rewards in abundance. It’s so enjoyable to hear Valee applying his unpredictable cadence to new music once again, made that much more enjoyable by the fact that he has already dropped THREE mixtapes in 2021 and it’s only July!)
42. “Next Chamber” - Peter Rosenberg feat. Method Man, Raekwon & Willie The Kid
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1amHQefki98
(Admit it: this is the type of production we have all been wanting on Wu-Tang albums for years. We won’t get it, but this is closer to the sound that they represented....and of course let’s not forget about the always welcome WTK feature, who does more than hold his own over the NY legends.)
41. “St. James Liquor” - Skyzoo feat. Aaria
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWC_tFzqUz8
(Pen game’s don’t come much finer than Skyzoo’s. The Brooklyn MC put a lot of work into All The Brilliant Things, and the final result was a collection of thoughtful rap songs like this one: descriptive, autobiographical rhymes over beautiful instrumentation that conjures memories of classic Roots records, and the headspace that only the greatest early 90′s East Coast lyricism could provide. Great song, great album.)
40. “10″ - Drakeo the Ruler
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIRJoQFyS6c
(One of the best stories in 2020 rap music was when Drakeo hit the street once again, after a painfully long stretch of time in prison. He really hit the ground running in 2021, dropping one quality track after another...but then again, he never really stopped making dope rap in the first place, be it in the studio or over prison phone.)
39. “MASSA” - Tyler, The Creator feat. DJ Drama
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vGz0bFutZs
(When folks were saying that Tyler was RAPPING rapping on his new album, this is what they were talking about. Not since Kanye West has a polarizing rapper-producer excelled so well at spilling his guts all over a track, and moments like this "MASSA” make Call Me If You Get Lost the standout project that it is.)
38. "DARTGUNZ” - Chuck Strangers
https://soundcloud.com/chuckstrangers/dartgunz-produced-by-samiyam
(Chuck Strangers remains low-key one of the best MC / Producers in the game, but Chuck is merely flexing his bar-work on this Samiyam produced gem.)
37. “Messy” - Nappy Nina & JWords
https://nappynina.bandcamp.com/track/messy
(Big shout-out to Pitchfork for putting me on to Nappy Nina within their rap song of the day section, The Ones. I love her music, and when paired with the incredibly gifted producer JWords - who I was only somewhat familar with thanks to previous terrific collaborations with MIKE and maassai - the result is a dope ass album like Double Down.)
36. “Nobles” - The Alchemist feat. Earl Sweatshirt & Navy Blue
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQoKO_v93g0
(The instrumental sounds as a triumphant as you could expect music from this trio to sound. My only complaint about This Things Of Ours was that it wasn’t 10-50 songs longer.)
35. “Nothing Like The Sun” - Tree feat. Roc Marciano
https://mctreeg.bandcamp.com/track/nothing-like-the-sun-feat-roc-marciano
(Okay so for the past few years, I had been pressing Tree, Closed Sessions, and just about anyone that would listen that a less than a minute clip from an old Tree promo featured an unreleased Tree & Roc Marciano joint. So finding out that this joint would *finally* being released on Tree’s Soul Trap album, it felt like Christmas morning. Now the world finally gets to hear two of the finest rap artists from the past decade plus!)
34. “nine lives” - maassai
https://maassai.bandcamp.com/track/nine-lives
(A great example of a song that seems to get better and better as it goes on, maassai & that horn sample are undeniably good on here.)
33. “Lemon Pepper Freestyle” - Drake feat. Rick Ross
https://soundcloud.com/octobersveryown/drake-lemon-pepper-freestyle?in=octobersveryown/sets/scary-hours-2-1
(This one really radiates, “YES, you have heard this before”...but when it works so well, that’s not such a bad thing. Drake came ready to rap, and it will propel this joint to the top of many lists you will find on those other web sites.)
32. “triboro.” - Remy Banks feat. Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire, Wiki & A-Trak
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwSJ-DtZRBk
(I dig this in a big way. A few of NYC’s finest, flexing over what feels like blasting Kraftwerk out of a boombox on the L Train? I’m so on board.)
31. “Safe To Say” - Good Gas, Fki 1st & Band Gang Lonnie Bands feat. Band Gang Biggs & Glockboyz Teejaee
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aykhcv625u0
(Of all my favorite projects that dropped in 2021 thus far, I don’t know if any have been as inexplicably under-discussed as the Good Gas, Fki 1st & Band Gang Lonnie Bands banger, Street Dream Team. I stumbled upon the project completely by accident one week while thumbing through all of the new joints that dropped from Detroit MCs one week, and I have kept it in heavy rotation ever sense. While not necessarily a spot-on snapshot of Band Gang Lonnie Bands’ typical sound, for a Michigan outsider like me, it makes for a great entry level intro to one of my favorite rappers out of the Motor City right now.)
30. "Early Exit” - Lloyd Banks
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BUofKVrb-A
(Yeah the Roc Marciano verse sounds like it was recorded over an old radio on cassette tape, but as someone from the real mixtape era, I’m not going to let shaky sound quality distract from the fact that every other part of the song is fantastic. The bars are there of course, but the beat and hook are all spot-on, and sound quality be damed it’s just great to hear Banks & Roc together.)
29. "Yonkers” - Wiki & NAH
https://wiksetnyc.bandcamp.com/track/yonkers
(Rife with experimentation and half-freestyles, and sonically living somewhere between Company Flow and Ratking, the subterranean metro sounds of Wiki and NAH’s Telephonebooth might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you have been checking for Wiki’s music prior to this point, chances are you are going to be feeling this collaboration with NAH, a producer that I was previously not familiar with, but became a huge fan over night thanks to cuts like “Yonkers”.)
28. “John Wick” - AKAI SOLO & Navy Blue
(Whether you still believe “lo-fi” rap is a legitimate sub-genre or not, there’s no denying the abilities of these two gifted writers/artists. The wind is blowing in this direction my friends, I just hope you get on board soon and stop neglecting all of the great rap music rising from this corner of the underground.)
https://akaisolo.bandcamp.com/track/john-wick-prod-navy-blue
27. “Let It Roll Interlude” by IAMNOBODI feat. Phonte & BeMyFiasco
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVA1hXEnwnE
(Hard to believe that arguably the strongest rap verse of 2021 would be so under the radar, but here we are...)
26. "Taylor Made Suit” - Evidence
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qLIuc3z7KQ
(Perhaps the thing I love most about this new Ev - both the song itself, as well as the entire album - is how incredibly effective he sounds over minimalist production throughout. “Funeral suit, same as my wedding suit”...shout-out to the legendary MC and producer, both for everything that has has endured in his personal life and his ability to turn his pain into art.)
25. “GOOFIEZ” - Mother Nature and Boathouse feat. Valee
https://mothernaturebarz.bandcamp.com/track/goofiez-featuring-valee
(When Chicago talent gets busy on a record, not many can hang with them. Be on the lookout for more and more big things from the likes of Mother Nature, Valee, and Boathouse.)
24. “Peach Cobbler” - Navy Blue
https://navybluethetruest.com/
(I’m not sure if there is a “chosen one” right now, someone destined to reach such levels of success and/or respect that Drake & Kendrick-esque waves are felt over a generation...but if there is, the mega-talented producer/MC/skater/whatever he wants to be Navy Blue might fit the bill.)
23. “Rose Gold” - 42 Dugg feat. EST Gee
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhmKfKZr-PQ
(There are more than a few songs off of 42 Dugg’s Free Dem Boyz that belong in my Top 50, but “Rose Gold” gets the nod off the strength of the menacing beat paired with 42 and one of the most scorching hot rappers walking the earth right now, EST Gee)
22. "MANIFESTO” - Tyler, The Creator feat. Domo Genesis & DJ Drama
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnDXCoHRl4o
(The Selena Gomez/Justin Bieber bar will garner most of the hype around this joint, but don’t let it distract from the fact that this song is one of the best collaborations between former Odd Future members since the collective’s creative peak.)
21. “What’s Next” - Drake
https://soundcloud.com/octobersveryown/drake-whats-next?in=octobersveryown/sets/scary-hours-2-1
(Pay attention to this Drake guy, I think he has a shot of making it. He makes it seem so easy, yet he has no peers at his level right now. There’s the growing underground elite...then there’s Drake, and little competition to duke it out with him when it comes to smash rap hits....assuming that is still supposed to be a thing?)
20. “MOMENTZ” - Mother Nature and Boathouse
https://mothernaturebarz.bandcamp.com/track/momentz-2
(You would be hard pressed to find a more enjoyable, high quality tape than SZNZ. The Chicago MCs rock a beat that sounds like a Camp Lo leftover - and I mean that in the best way possible - and show a natural penchant for earwormy choruses that should serve them very well in this biz.)
19. “Grace Jones”  - maassai
https://maassai.bandcamp.com/track/grace-jones
(Somewhere between spoken word and where Lyricist Lounge-era Rawkus resides, you can find the warrior poet that is maassai: quite simply one of the most impressive MCs in rap right now.)
18. “How It Feels” - Lil Baby & Lil Durk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAsRTTO8L2k
(I know how it feels to care relatively little about a collaboration project between two of the game’s more revered Lil’s, then be blown away by both of them rapping their asses off for like 20 songs.)
17. “Falling Out the Sky” - Armand Hammer & The Alchemist feat. Earl Sweatshirt
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctmTme9cG74
(There’s wavy, and then there’s wavy in the hands of The Alchemist, Earl Sweatshirt and Armand Hammer. One of Haram’s many standouts, this one is probably not what fans expected when they first saw the album’s tracklist, but it might actually be more special than we expected.)
16. “Capitol 1″ - EST Gee
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ng7Sg1_RTM
(Mark my words: by the time we reach the end of 2021, EST Gee will be in the top 10 of every reputable rap site’s best MC list. At least I know that he will most likely be on mine.)
15. “LUMBERJACK” - Tyler, the Creator feat. DJ Drama
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WOjaYotX1c
(Who knew we needed Tyler to join forces with DJ Drama to rap over a Gravediggaz joint? Never one to do what everyone expects, when this cut dropped about a week before his new album was released, it was clear that he was ready to pick up where he left off with his impressive bar-work on a flurry of features in 2020. Now that I think about it, after “Something To Talk About” and “327″ maybe we shouldn’t be surprised that Tyler dropped one of the hardest joints of the year.)
14. “The Stellar Ray Theory” - Mach-Hommy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3GWJrL2ht0
(The single that Mach & Griselda stans were terrified to hear, at the risk of revealing their no-longer-a-secret project to be a painful example of how far the parties had drifted since their over-publicized fallout, only to find the opposite: Mach & Gunn didn’t just find their chemistry once again, they improved upon it.)
13. “Sandra” - MIKE
https://mikelikesrap.bandcamp.com/track/sandra
(With his new Disco! album, MIKE managed to step outside of his typical lane of delivery, showing how nimble he truly is as a MC, and even takes his skills to another level as a producer, delivering what might be the most enjoyable album of his career thus far.)
12. "No Time” - Your Old Droog feat. Wiki
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Y8Ozq9tMLE
(The new YOD album sounds so painstakingly written and executed, you would never believe it just casually dropped out of the blue one evening. Few are better at crafting themes without compromising the joy of listening to the music, Droog delivered once again.)
11. "What The Money Taught Us” - Skyzoo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JV2QEbxMYgU
(This new Skyzoo album has so much beauty to unpack, please dig in if you have been keeping it on the back-burner for some reason.)
And now the Top 10...
10. “Folie Á Deux” - Mach-Hommy feat. Westside Gunn & Keisha Plum
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LF1-VvJsbqI
(Conductor Williams does it again, putting his own unique touch to one of Pray For Haiti’s standout cuts. The song is almost beautiful sound if it wasn’t for Westside Gunn, Mach and Keisha Plum pumping their own unique rawness into the beat. This one represents everything going right with Griselda right now.)
Tumblr media
9. “Hallways” - Peter Rosenberg feat. Roc Marciano & Flee Lord
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrDrvozDzo4
(Superior to anything on last year’s Mt. Marci, Disco Vietnam really blessed Flee Lord and Roc Marciano with the type of late night loungin’ in New York banger that Roc knows how to knock out the park better than anyone. “Hallways” screams late night underground radio in a way that feels both nostalgic and fresher than just about anything out right now.)
Tumblr media
8. "Seeing Green” - Nicki Minaj feat. Lil Wayne & Drake
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diUcHDlCqMo
(Many have tried to recapture the skill, swagger, and star power of The Roc in the early 00′s, but most have not been able to come close. Leave it to the diamonds in Young Money’s crown to come through and capture the pomp and circumstance so successfully, it’s amazing that Just Blaze wasn’t somehow involved. If you aren’t feelin’ at least one of these verses, time to join a hater support group.)
Tumblr media
7. “Prayers Over Packages” - DJ Muggs & Rome Streetz & DJ Muggs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r2AYxN20ZI
(Most underground artists must be so excited to have the legendary DJ Muggs lace them with a full project, and I’m sure Rome Streetz was honored. But while Muggs delivered another strong performance on Death & The Magician, it’s Rome that elevates the material to truly masterful levels.)
Tumblr media
6. “Wants and Needs” - Drake feat. Lil Baby
https://soundcloud.com/octobersveryown/drake-wants-and-needs-feat-lil?in=octobersveryown/sets/scary-hours-2-1
(Yes Drake still has the touch, one of rap music’s few legitimate hitmakers left....but hot damn, it’s Lil Baby coming through to turn the joint to ashes that carries “Wants and Needs” to song of the year caliber levels.)
Tumblr media
5. “S.R.D.” - Peter Rosenberg feat. Styles P, Ransom & Smok DZA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tzSrIZ8tso
(Don’t overthink it: the watery boom-bap backdrop provided by Buck Dudley is exquisite, and all three MCs go in. I think it’s time to admit that if it wasn’t for the like him or passionately hate him aura around Peter Rosenberg, a lot more folks would. be praising this compilation as one of the finest since peak DJ street tape era.)
Tumblr media
4. “Black Sunlight” - Armand Hammer & The Alchemist feat. KAYANA
https://armandhammer.bandcamp.com/track/black-sunlight-featuring-kayana
(What more can I say about this union by now? Al dipping into his breezy bag to bless the lyrical onslaught of billy woods and ELUCID was not something that I thought I needed, but after hearing them cook together I don’t know if I ever want Armand Hammer to go back to the bleak soundscapes they’re often know for. The contract in style was so effective throughout Haram, bringing out the best from all parties, in my not-so-humble opinion...hopefully even more to come from this alliance.)
Tumblr media
3. “TV Dinners” - The Alchemist feat. Sideshow & Boldy James
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuUGrlVivic
(A slick, seemingly harmless little head nodder from The Alchemist, Boldy and the rapidly ascending main-stage level Sideshow. I felt this one right from the jump the day Al’s This Thing of Ours EP dropped, and it’s remained high on my list of 2021 favorites ever since. Give me a bunch of chill MCs doing deceptively slick pen-work over a jazzy but simple loop, and I’m set.)
Tumblr media
2. “The 26th Letter” - Mach-Hommy feat. Westside Gunn
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7jcjW8h230
(Forget the albums that go for thousand of dollars. Forget the mysterious aura around him, forget the Twitter stan-dom and those that loathe them, and forget the flames of Griselda gossip that are fanned by both fans and doubters....and just imagine you never heard this MC rap before and you have just pressed play on “The 26th Letter”. )
Tumblr media
1. “Kill All Rats” - Conway & Big Ghost LTD. feat. Ransom & Rome Streetz
https://bigghostlimited.bandcamp.com/track/kill-all-rats-ft-ransom-rome-streetz
(Whenever attempting to wrangle my favorite songs into one tidy list, there is one ex-factor that can elevate a collection of bars to an elite song: execution. You already know that when punchlines kings the caliber of Ransom, Rome Streetz, and Conway The Machine get on a record together, it’s bound to be a bar-fest....but to the extent of “Kill All Rats”??? Not expected. The name of the song itself invites a certain degree of redundancy, but when three great MCs jump on a track and write verses near the top of their skill level - and when a producer like Big Ghost sounds equally incensed with the instrumental that he brought to the table - even a straight-forward posse cut can end up being the best rap song of the year thus far.)
Tumblr media

From B.A.P’s Daehyun To Baby Hyun: An Interview With K-pop’s Newest Solo Artist
Jung Daehyun debuted in 2012 as part of the idol group B.A.P, but these days, he is embarking on his official career as a full-time solo artist. Although he released his first solo single “Shadow” in 2017, he is now working under the name Baby Hyun and getting a fresh, new start with a brand of music that is uniquely his own. He has a lot in store that he wants to show fans and will soon be doing so with the launch of his first solo mini-album.
What The Kpop was recently able to interview this talented artist and chat about both his past and his future. From serious music questions to fun questions about his favorite things, read below to learn more about Baby Hyun.
WTK: First of all, thank you so much for agreeing to do this interview. Do you have anything to say to your fans before we get started?
BH: Hi, this is Daehyun. It’s been such a long time. Thanks for reaching out, and I do feel regrettable about how long it has been. I want to tell you guys a lot of stories as a solo artist. Please send me lots of love and support during this journey.
WTK: You were a member of B.A.P since 2012. Now that you are pursuing your solo career full time, what are the things you feel have changed the most? Are there any challenges you’ve been facing on your own?
BH: Before I was a member of B.A.P, I had vocal training for 10 months. After I became a trainee, I did about four more months of training, then I became a member of B.A.P and we debuted. Becoming a solo artist hasn’t changed things too much, but I do have to be on stage alone and do everything by myself. The biggest change I experienced at this point after becoming a solo artist is… everything feels new and different as I start afresh. It’s difficult, but it’s a rewarding experience each time I take a new step.
WTK: I’m sure you and the other members of B.A.P are really busy right now as everyone is starting their own solo careers and companies, but have you been able to meet up recently?
BH: I haven’t seen them much since the 2018 tour, but we still keep in touch and support each other from distance. I don’t think B.A.P separating has changed much with that. I still love, support, and miss everyone.
WTK: Do you have any plans for a solo fan meeting or tour overseas? I know so many fans would love to have you visit their countries.
BH: I can’t really go on an international tour right now because of my current circumstances, and also, I have some issues with my passport which makes it difficult. I do wish that I could meet and perform for them in order to make some great memories with my international fans. But as of now, I don’t have other ways than social media, so I’m trying to use that to return the love.
(Editor’s Note: Daehyun will be going to Japan in April for a joint fan meeting tour with fellow B.A.P member Jongup. You can click here for more information.)
WTK: You are primarily working on your own right now. Are you enjoying the challenge and freedom right now? Or do you find it difficult to do everything by yourself?
BH: Right now, it’s a process of building things up one by one. I plan to work as a single-person management company. I’m in the process of going through all of those procedures and setups. I can’t give this up or become too complacent and get lazy about it. Although the process is tough, I want to get to a certain point with it. I don’t know when that will happen, but I won’t stop or give up. It’ll be great if I had my fans’ support.
WTK: Everyone is so excited for your upcoming mini-album! Apart from the album, however, do you have plans for any additional activities like musical theater?
BH: I’m planning to show a lot of new and different things starting with this mini-album. However, musicals would be great as well if I get the opportunity. When the time comes, I hope a lot of the fans will come to see it!
WTK: Since you already have experience with acting through musicals, would you ever consider acting in a K-drama as well?
BH: I’m planning to get closer to the fans through music at the moment, but if I get an opportunity, I want to try acting too.
WTK: You have accomplished so much in your career as a singer. What’s the most memorable accomplishment to you?
BH: I did achieve a lot of things through my work and all, but I don’t get very attached to my past achievements. I get more motivated about the achievements to come in the future. One thing that never change though are the fans. No matter what the circumstances are, being with my fans is always so rewarding, precious, and dear to my heart.
WTK: Let’s talk about your upcoming album! What kind of songs will it include?
BH: All of the songs on the album have never been released before. It’s a way of declaring my brand new start as the solo artist Jung Daehyun. At the same time, I think I can show the fans a sound that’s more uniquely mine. Concerning other details, it’ll be great if you can check it out when the album comes out!
WTK: If you could collaborate with any artist, who would you choose?
BH: Since I just began as a solo artist, I want to show the people and my fans just my own music for a while.
WTK: Speaking of singers and music, what’s your favorite song these days?
BH: I listen to Luther Vandross a lot nowadays. He is a great artist. You can learn so much from him.
WTK: Do you have any new genres or concepts you would like to try as a soloist?
BH: When I’m somewhat satisfied with my music, I want to try jazz later on.
WTK: We’re really excited that you have a YouTube page now! What kind of videos and content do you plan on uploading?
BH: I plan to share a lot of things that I haven’t been able to share before— like my daily life and what goes on behind the stage. At the moment, I’m working on my videos. From now on, I plan to share a lot regularly through YouTube.
WTK: Your departure from TS Entertainment was very recent. Have you thought about taking a vacation and just enjoying some free time for now? Where would your dream vacation entail?
BH: I don’t think now is the best time for me to take a break. There are so many things I want to do and a lot of things I still need to improve on first. I plan to show a lot through music. My dream vacation would just be something like the sense of relief and relaxation that comes after a performance is finished.
WTK: Recently, a group of BABYz got together and wrote a song for B.A.P, even making a music video. Did you see it already? (Readers can click here to watch it.) If so, do you have a message for the fans involved in the project?
BH: I saw it on YouTube. I was so moved. It is because of the fans like this who show support and love that I don’t give up when things are tough and I’m able to stick to music. I want to tell them that I truly am immensely grateful. I want to say this more than anything— while I’m alive, I will sing for you guys. I truly love you guys.
WTK: Since so many fans sent in questions, we would like to ask you a series of quick, silly questions for fun. Try to keep your answers to one word if possible. The first one is— spring or autumn?
BH: Autumn.
WTK: Favorite book?
BH: I don’t have one.
WTK: Chinese food or Japanese food?
BH: Japanese.
WTK: If you could travel back in time, which person would you like to meet?
BH: Luther Vandross.
WTK: What is your biggest goal for 2019?
BH: I don’t have a set goal. I am just going to work hard and be consistent. I just want to meet fans more.
WTK: Do you still love cheesecake?
BH: No.
WTK: What makes you happiest these days?
BH: Singing.
WTK: Favorite place in Busan?
BH: Sajik-dong.
WTK: Thank you! That was a lot of questions (laughs). We held a game recently and the winner was able to submit a video question for you. We’ll show it to you, but our readers can click here to watch the video. The question was, “How do you deal with art block/being exhausted creatively?”
BH: (To the fan) I think that no matter what you do, there will be tough times and slumps. Often they will be repeated too. Even if you attempt to overcome it in your own way, it’s difficult to overcome it completely. The important thing is who is beside you at that very moment. When I was in a slump, sometimes it was because of people. But when I got over slumps, it was also because of people. I couldn’t overcome it completely on my own no matter how much I tried. The people who are by your side in a challenging moment are really important.
WTK: It’s been seven years since you debuted and many things have changed. Where do you think you will be in the next seven years?
BH: For sure, I will be doing music.
WTK: Whether about life or music, what is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
BH: Experience was the best advice. I still need so much advice, but I know that it will come through life’s experiences.
WTK: I know all fans want you to know how much they love you and how special you are to them, as well as how they will always support you in all that you do. Do you have any last words to your fans?
BH: I want to say thank you to all the fans for all the support and love that were given in the past seven years. And I hope you guys love my music as a solo artist too. I think nothing has changed. I’m still Jung Daehyun, and I love singing. All I want is to be remembered for that. I am truly grateful, and I love you guys.
Thank you so much to Daehyun/Baby Hyun for participating in this interview with us! He is so kind and was happy to answer every single question we included. In addition, he is working hard with English to be able to communicate more with fans. Whether it’s through music, YouTube, acting, or more, we wish him the best of luck and will be rooting for the success of all his solo activities!

Hello bb <3 You're a musician, we all know this! So lemme hear all of the 35 music questions 😇
oh lord sjkgfjfjgd
oki so this list tries very hard to confine its answers to contemporary pop music, but you know I'm just gonna ignore that
*****
1. an album you can’t stop listening to lately
the score to the Disney Fairies movies and games. Movie score by Joel McNeely, games by various composers who I often haven't been able to trace. I know these are multiple albums and loose pieces, but deal with it
2. an album you wish you could hear again for the first time
Tryptich for Brass by Philip Sparke. Heard that piece for the first time during an orchestra masterclass and it really sent me on my path to becoming a conductor cause I wanted to be able to lead such music too
3. a song you really like by an artist you otherwise don’t listen to very much (whether that’s because you usually don’t like their music, or just because you haven’t listened to the rest yet)
Maurice Duruflé's Requiem
4. name 1-3 LEAST favourite songs off one of your favourite albums (bonus: if the person asking knows what some of your favourite albums are, they can suggest an album OR you can just choose one yourself)
oki I'm trying very hard to come up with an album and have eventually settled on Cryoshell by Cryoshell? I guess? And then Come To My Heaven would be the least favourite for me there, though it's still pretty good
5. name an album you feel is perfect
Johann Sebastian Bach's Das Wohltemperierte Klavier, both bands. The sheer musical genius is astounding. We should all strive to be Bach
6. from the album you feel is perfect, what three songs would you choose to eliminate if you absolutely had to?
sdljkfhsdkljhfsdjk are you kidding me?!? I can't do that??? Apart from all of it being perfection, the sheer structure of the album doesn't allow me to, it's a prelude and fugue in each of the twelve keys, both major and minor, so taking any piece out would completely disintegrate the WTK and I will not perform such blasphemy
7. do you have any concert tickets right now? if so, whose concert is it?
Does StEx count? Otherwise lmaoooo it's corona times, concerts have been deemed unessential ripppp
8. name an artist/band that isn’t touring at the moment who you’d really like to see in concert
so many, but for now let's say the Metropole Orchestra. They're an inspiration to any orchestra who wishes to play more pop/jazz styles, they're so good
9. name a musician who is no longer living who you wish you could see in concert
Franz Liszt or Niccolò Paganini, if only to see the fangirling on them firsthand. Otherwise Igor Stravinsky, specifically during the premiere of Le Sacre Du Printemps, cause I like drama sdkjfhsdjf
10. what was your first concert?
hmmmmm as a toddler my mother used to take me along to evensongs all around Cambridge, specifically King's College, so I guess those? But prenatally I was at her choir concerts so guess we could count that too
11. what’s a song that your favourite band doesn’t perform live, but you really wish they would?
I... I don't think I have a favourite band?
12. if you could hear any album performed live in its entirety, which would it be?
damn again with the albums, this is such a hard thing to think about. You know what, imma go the 2000s music route. Maybe Right Where You Want Me by Jesse McCartney?
13. if you could talk to any musician, who would it be? what would you want to say?
*fear of making decisions setting in* Claude-Achille Debussy? About his innovations in Western classical music, and what his motivations and ideas where in the composition process? I guess I could have a similar conversation with Richard Wagner, but he was even more of a dick than Debussy and if I want to know his thoughts I could just read his wildly antisemitic book I guess
14. is there any band/musician who you really strongly dislike? if so, why?
I try not to actively dislike any music, but I tend to gravitate away from music that's very simple from an analytical point of view, bad performances (intonation troubles, orchestra out of sync, kicksing horns, squeaking clarinets, etc.), or strongly Christian music (bad experiences rip)
15. have you ever travelled outside of your area to see a concert? if not, would you want to?
What does 'area' entail in this context? Does me giving a performance at the other side of the country count? Going to England for evensongs? Seeing an opera in Prague?
16. have you ever been in the first row for a concert? if not, what was the closest seat you’ve ever had?
Yep, multiple times. The most memorable one was definitely a military orchestra performance lead by my conducting teacher when me and my other conducting teacher (both of them are pretty much my dads) sat down front and centre, literally five metres behind the conductor's podium. I will never forget the look on first teacher's when he walked on stage and saw as there, realising that we would be breathing down his neck the entire concert. Also me and second teacher ended up in a little wrestling match during Mambo and the entire saxophone section was dying with laughter the entire time.
17. if you could go back in time and attend any artist/band’s concert that you were unable to attend, who would it be and when?
Probably the premiere of Le Sacre Du Printemps from Igor Stravinsky. I love drama (see 9)
18. what decade do you think had the best music? is there any particular year that you think was the best?
I don’t believe in one period of ‘best’ music, because all music is connected and influences each other. But personal favourites are the Impressionist style, and in pop music the 80s.
19. who is your favourite member of your favourite band?
Ehm… no idea
20. who (if anyone!) is your least favourite member of your favourite band?
Also no idea
21. what is a song that you like, but that you don’t listen to very often?
Pretty much any piece, but you know what, for funsies let’s say Richard Wagner’s Die Walküre. I mean it’s a four hour opera, of course you don’t listen to it often.
22. name a song that reminds you of one of your best memories
Philip Sparke’s Tryptich For Brass. See 2
23. name a song that you associate with being sad
Owl City’s Silhouette
24. name a song that you associate with being angry
I don’t think I have one?
25. name a song that makes you think about someone you love
Divndivndivnd the entire StEx soundtrack? I guess? Or maybe the BIONICLE soundtracks
26. name a song that makes you think about someone you don’t like
Saxophone concerto Fellini by Johan de Meij
27. name a song that you wish was longer
Lmao literally the first thing that comes to mind is the intro of FRIENDS, would have been fun if that would have been an entire song lol
28. name a song (or a few songs) that would need to be included in a movie about your life
C.B. lmaooooooooooooo
29. is there any song that you mostly like, but there’s one specific part of it that you don’t like as much? if so, what is it?
James Barnes's Fantasy Variations on a theme of Paganini. There is one variation that is obviously him trying to bring his own style into the otherwise pretty nicely Paganini-stylised composition, and it doesn't fit at all, it's jarring
30. name an album you really love that you haven’t listened to in awhile
Jesse McCartney’s Right Where You Want Me
31. name an album you’ve wanted to listen to for a long time, but you haven’t gotten around to it yet
Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar
32. what is a band/artist you really wanted to start listening to, but you just really couldn’t get into it?
Maurice Ravel. For some reason I’m more of a Debussy slut
33. do you wear a lot of band t-shirts? if so, do you like it when strangers comment on them?
I only have two music shirts, from Jesse McCartney and Ariana Grande. The Ariana one is a bit nsfw so I don’t wear it very often, but I should wear the Jesse one more, it’s really nice. And yeah, I would like strangers to comment on it (apart from being shocked cause talking to strangers isn’t really a thing here)
34. pick one of your favourite bands/artists and choose a song by them that you associate with each season
Tchaikovsky’s twelve seasons, next
35. name two musicians who haven’t already collaborated on anything who you think would sound great together
Do they have to be alive? Cause I am living for a Josquin Desprez/Claude-Achille Debussy cross-over

11:11 💋🤟🏼👑
““Okay, okay, I can see you get what you want, especially when you ask like that,” I said looking up at three snarling giant kitties.  ““Look, I need water and to use the restroom, I just woke up right before you all so graciously entered my life, then I will tell you everything I know about…did you say Commander, I mean, like some kind of military rank, or…”   ““Quiet human, we ask the questions and you tell us what we need” said the gruff one, then continued “get your water and use the restroom…go, now, hurry”.   The water I had put out to drink before they arrived was still sitting on the counter, think, think, is all this hazy brain could could come up with, this situation was not what I had for today…then, it all hit like a lightning bolt or one of those 💡over the head.   Noticing that each one had these google glass kind of sunglasses, I could see the two nicer ones watching cat memes and trying not to laugh, the gruff one seemed to speaking to a higher authority figure, and there it was, my phone, sitting right in reachable range.   Chink, clink went the bowls in the cupboard as I laid out three of them and grabbed the heavy cream from NYE pie from the fridge and poured it out.  It seemed to make O extremely under the influence last night, “it’s the secret no one knows is what she said, heavy cream is like catnip x 10″.   So I poured the three bowls and laid them out in the larger than you’d expect kitchen floor.  Grabbing a spoon, I tinkled the bowls and yelled ““here Kitty, Kitty…heading to the bathroom, back to answer your Q’s, here’s a refreshment”.   As I walked by, I surreptitiously grabbed the phone as the sweet smell of the cream wafted to the giant felines.   I stepped inside the bathroom, the clothes for the day already sitting hung up.   The moment I closed the door I hit the reply button, “WTK(what the Kitty), this is the guy from last night, there are three giant cats sitting in my house demanding to know about a commander B, from the HKCBD”, hitting send to wait for a reply, I used the restroom and got dressed.        Ding, came the reply, which coincided with the lapping sound of cats drinking milk on the floor stopping, ““hey, what was that?”  came from the kitchen.  ““Oh, I dropped the razor in the sink,” is all I could think as I looked down at the phone…”“run as fast as you can…go swiftly”
Oh, dear reader those words have changed my life forever and ever.
To be continued
This is one of those old timey cereal box tales from the newspapers, releasing one plot piece at a time.
I love you always and evermore.❤️‍🔥
Blessings and love to the family.💐
✨🤟🏼👑🍯💋🌈🥰💘🤗☮️😍🌎🔥
eternal love,

300+ TOP J2ME Interview Questions and Answers
J2ME Interview Questions for freshers experienced :-
1 . What is J2ME ? Java 2, Micro Edition is a group of specifications and technologies that pertain to Java on small devices. The J2ME moniker covers a wide range of devices, from pagers and mobile telephones through set-top boxes and car navigation systems. The J2ME world is divided into configurations and profiles, specifications that describe a Java environment for a specific class of device. 2. What is J2ME WTK ? The J2ME Wireless Toolkit is a set of tools that provides developers with an emulation environment, documentation and examples for developing Java applications for small devices. The J2ME WTK is based on the Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) and Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP) reference implementations, and can be tightly integrated with Forte for Java 3. What is 802.11 ? 802.11 is a group of specifications for wireless networks developed by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). 802.11 uses the Ethernet protocol and CSMA/CA (carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance) for path sharing. 4. What is API ? An Application Programming Interface (API) is a set of classes that you can use in your own application. Sometimes called libraries or modules, APIs enable you to write an application without reinventing common pieces of code. For example, a networking API is something your application can use to make network connections, without your ever having to understand the underlying code. 5. What is WTP ? Wireless Transaction Protocol (WTP) is WAP's transaction protocol that works between the session protocol WSP and security protocol WTLS. WTP chops data packets into lower level datagrams and concatenates received datagrams into useful data. WTP also keeps track of received and sent packets and does re-transmissions and acknowledgment sending when needed. 6. What is CDC ? The Connected Device Configuration (CDC) is a specification for a J2ME configuration. Conceptually, CDC deals with devices with more memory and processing power than CLDC; it is for devices with an always-on network connection and a minimum of 2 MB of memory available for the Java system. 7. What is CDMA ? Code-Division Multiple Access (CDMA) is a cellular technology widely used in North America. There are currently three CDMA standards: CDMA One, CDMA2000 and W-CDMA. CDMA technology uses UHF 800Mhz-1.9Ghz frequencies and bandwidth ranges from 115Kbs to 2Mbps. 8. What is CDMA One ? Also know as IS-95, CDMA One is a 2nd generation wireless technology. Supports speeds from 14.4Kbps to 115K bps. 9. What is CDMA2000 ? Also known as IS-136, CDMA2000 is a 3rd generation wireless technology. Supports speeds ranging from 144Kbps to 2Mbps. 10. What is CDPD ? Developed by Nortel Networks, Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) is an open standard for supporting wireless Internet access from cellular devices. CDPD also supports Multicast, which allows content providers to efficiently broadcast information to many devices at the same time.

J2ME Interview Questions 11. What is cHTML ? Compact HTML (cHTML) is a subset of HTML which is designed for small devices. The major features of HTML that are excluded from cHTML are: JPEG image, Table, Image map, Multiple character fonts and styles, Background color and image, Frame and Style sheet. 12. What is CLDC ? The Connected, Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) is a specification for a J2ME configuration. The CLDC is for devices with less than 512 KB or RAM available for the Java system and an intermittent (limited) network connection. It specifies a stripped-down Java virtual machine1 called the KVM as well as several APIs for fundamental application services. Three packages are minimalist versions of the J2SE java.lang, java.io, and java.util packages. A fourth package, javax.microedition.io, implements the Generic Connection Framework, a generalized API for making network connections. 13. What is configuration ? In J2ME, a configuration defines the minimum Java runtime environment for a family of devices: the combination of a Java virtual machine (either the standard J2SE virtual machine or a much more limited version called the CLDC VM) and a core set of APIs. CDC and CLDC are configurations. See also profile, optional package. 14. What is CVM ? The Compact Virtual Machine (CVM) is an optimized Java virtual machine1 (JVM) that is used by the CDC. 15. What is Deck ? A deck is a collection of one or more WML cards that can be downloaded, to a mobile phone, as a single entity. 16. What is EDGE ? Enhanced Data GSM Environment (EDGE) is a new, faster version of GSM. EDGE is designed to support transfer rates up to 384Kbps and enable the delivery of video and other high-bandwidth applications. EDGE is the result of a joint effort between TDMA operators, vendors and carriers and the GSM Alliance. 17. What is ETSI ? The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) is a non-profit organization that establishes telecommunications standards for Europe. 18. What is FDMA ? Frequency-division multiple-access (FDMA) is a mechanism for sharing a radio frequency band among multiple users by dividing it into a number of smaller bands. 19. What is Foundation Profile ? The Foundation Profile is a J2ME profile specification that builds on CDC. It adds additional classes and interfaces to the CDC APIs but does not go so far as to specify user interface APIs, persistent storage, or application life cycle. Other J2ME profiles build on the CDC/Foundation combination: for example, the Personal Profile and the RMI Profile both build on the Foundation Profile. 20. What is Generic Connection Framework ? The Generic Connection Framework (GCF) makes it easy for wireless devices to make network connections. It is part of CLDC and CDC and resides in the javax.microedition.io package. 21. What is GPRS ? The General Packet Radio System (GPRS) is the next generation of GSM. It will be the basis of 3G networks in Europe and elsewhere. 22. What is GSM ? The Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) is a wireless network system that is widely used in Europe, Asia, and Australia. GSM is used at three different frequencies: GSM900 and GSM1800 are used in Europe, Asia, and Australia, while GSM1900 is deployed in North America and other parts of the world. 23. What is HLR ? The Home Location Register (HLR) is a database for permanent storage of subscriber data and service profiles. 24. What is HTTPS ? Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure sockets (HTTPS) is a protocol for transmission of encrypted hypertext over Secure Sockets Layer. 25. What is i-appli ? Sometimes called "Java for i-mode", i-appli is a Java environment based on CLDC. It is used on handsets in NTT DoCoMo's i-mode service. While i-appli is similar to MIDP, it was developed before the MIDP specification was finished and the two APIs are incompatible. 26. What is IDE ? An Integrated Development Environment (IDE) provides a programming environment as a single application. IDEs typically bundle a compiler, debugger, and GUI builder tog ether. Forte for Java is Sun's Java IDE. 27. What is iDEN ? The Integrated Dispatch Enhanced Network (iDEN) is a wireless network system developed by Motorola. Various carriers support iDEN networks around the world: Nextel is one of the largest carriers, with networks covering North and South America. 28. What is i-mode ? A standard used by Japanese wireless devices to access cHTML (compact HTML) Web sites and display animated GIFs and other multimedia content. 29. What is 3G ? Third generation (3G) wireless networks will offer faster data transfer rates than current networks. The first generation of wireless (1G) was analog cellular. The second generation (2G) is digital cellular, featuring integrated voice and data communications. So-called 2.5G networks offer incremental speed increases. 3G networks will offer dramatically improved data transfer rates, enabling new wireless applications such as streaming media. 30. What is 3GPP ? The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) is a global collaboration between 6 partners: ARIB, CWTS, ETSI, T1, TTA, and TTC. The group aims to develop a globally accepted 3rd-generation mobile system based on GSM. 31. What is Java Card ? The Java Card specification allows Java technology to run on smart cards and other small devices. The Java Card API is compatible with formal international standards, such as, ISO7816, and industry-specific standards, such as, Europay/Master Card/Visa (EMV). 32. What is JavaHQ ? What is JDBC for CDC/FP ? The JDBC Optional Package for CDC/Foundation Profile (JDBCOP for CDC/FP) is an API that enables mobile Java applications to communicate with relational database servers using a subset of J2SE's Java Database Connectivity. This optional package is a strict subset of JDBC 3.0 that excludes some of JDBC's advanced and server-oriented features, such as pooled connections and array types. It's meant for use with the Foundation Profile or its supersets. 35. What is JSR ? Java Specification Request (JSR) is the actual description of proposed and final specifications for the Java platform. JSRs are reviewed by the JCP and the public before a final release of a specification is made. 36. What is KittyHawk ? KittyHawk is a set of APIs used by LG Telecom on its IBook and p520 devices. KittyHawk is based on CLDC. It is conceptually similar to MIDP but the two APIs are incompatible. 37. What is KJava ? KJava is an outdated term for J2ME. It comes from an early package of Java software for PalmOS, released at the 2000 JavaOne show. The classes for that release were packaged in the com.sun.kjava package. 38. What is kSOAP ? kSOAP is a SOAP API suitable for the J2ME, based on kXML. 39. What is kXML ? The kXML project provides a small footprint XML parser that can be used with J2ME. 40. What is KVM ? The KVM is a compact Java virtual machine (JVM) that is designed for small devices. It supports a subset of the features of the JVM. For example, the KVM does not support floating-point operations and object finalization. The CLDC specifies use of the KVM. According to folklore, the 'K' in KVM stands for kilobyte, signifying that the KVM runs in kilobytes of memory as opposed to megabytes. 41. What is LAN ? A Local Area Network (LAN) is a group of devices connected with various communications technologies in a small geographic area. Ethernet is the most widely-used LAN technology. Communication on a LAN can either be with Peer-to-Peer devices or Client-Server devices. 42. What is LCDUI ? LCDUI is a shorthand way of referring to the MIDP user interface APIs, contained in the javax.microedition.lcdui package. Strictly speaking, LCDUI stands for Liquid Crystal Display User Interface. It's a user interface toolkit for small device screens which are commonly LCD screens. 43. What is MExE ? The Mobile Execution Environment (MExE) is a specification created by the 3GPP which details an applicatio n environment for next generation mobile devices. MExE consists of a variety of technologies including WAP, J2ME, CLDC and MIDP. 44. What is MIDlet ? A MIDlet is an application written for MIDP. MIDlet applications are subclasses of the javax.microedition.midlet.MIDlet class that is defined by MIDP. 45. What is MIDlet suite ? MIDlets are packaged and distributed as MIDlet suites. A MIDlet suite can contain one or more MIDlets. The MIDlet suite consists of two files, an application descriptor file with a .jad extension and an archive file with a .jar file. The descriptor lists the archive file name, the names and class names for each MIDlet in the suite, and other information. The archive file contains the MIDlet classes and resource files. 46. What is MIDP ? The Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP) is a specification for a J2ME profile. It is layered on top of CLDC and adds APIs for application life cycle, user interface, networking, and persistent storage. 47. What is MIDP-NG ? The Next Generation MIDP specification is currently under development by the Java Community Process. Planned improvements include XML parsing and cryptographic support. 48. What is Mobitex ? Mobitex is a packet-switched, narrowband PCS network, designed for wide-area wireless data communications. It was developed in 1984 by Eritel, an Ericsson subsidiary, a nd there are now over 30 Mobitex networks in operation worldwide. 49. What is Modulation ? Modulation is the method by which a high-frequency digital signal is grafted onto a lower-frequency analog wave, so that digital packets are able to ride piggyback on the analog airwave. 50. What is MSC ? A Mobile Switching Center (MSC) is a unit within a cellular phone network that automatically coordinates and switches calls in a given cell. It monitors each caller's signal strength, and when a signal begins to fade, it hands off the call to another MSC that's better positioned to manage the call. 51. What is Obfuscation ? Obfuscation is a technique used to complicate code. Obfuscation makes code harder to understand when it is de-compiled, but it typically has no affect on the functionality of the code. Obfuscation programs can be used to protect Java programs by making them harder to reverse-engineer. 52. What is optional package ? An optional package is a set of J2ME APIs providing services in a specific area, such as database access or multimedia. Unlike a profile, it does not define a complete application environment, but rather is used in conjunction with a configuration or a profile. It extends the runtime environment to support device capabilities that are not universal enough to be defined as part of a profile or that need to be shared by different profiles. J2ME RMI and the Mobile Media RMI are examples of optional packages. 53. What is OTA ? Over The Air (OTA) refers to any wireless networking technology. 54. What is PCS ? Personal Communications Service (PCS) is a suite of second-generation, digitally modulated mobile-communications interfaces that includes TDMA, CDMA, and GSM. PCS serves as an umbrella term for second-generation wireless technologies operating in the 1900MHz range 56. What is PDAP ? The Personal Digital Assistant Profile (PDAP) is a J2ME profile specification designed for small platforms such as PalmOS devices. You can think of PDAs as being larger than mobile phones but smaller than set-top boxes. PDAP is built on top of CLDC and will specify user interface and persistent storage APIs. PDAP is currently being developed using the Java Community Process (JCP). 57. What is PDC ? Personal Digital Cellular (PDC) is a Japanese standard for wireless communications. 58. What is PDCP ? Parallel and Distributed Computing Practices (PDCP) are often used to describe computer systems that are spread over many devices on a network (wired or wireless) where many nodes process data simultaneously. 59. What is Personal Profile ? The Personal Profile is a J2ME profile specification. Layered on the Foundation Profile and CDC, the Personal Profile will be the next generation of PersonalJava technology. The specification is currently in development under the Java Community Process (JCP). 60. What is PersonalJava ? PersonalJava is a Java environment based on the Java virtual machine1 (JVM) and a set of APIs similar to a JDK 1.1 environment. It includes the Touchable Look and Feel (also called Truffle), a graphic toolkit that is optimized for consumer devices with a touch sensitive screen. PersonalJava will be included in J2ME in the upcoming Personal Profile, which is built on CDC. 61. What is PNG ? Portable Network Graphics (PNG) is an image format offering lossless compression and storage flexibility. The MIDP specification requires implementations to recognize certain types of PNG images. 62. What is POSE ? Palm OS Emulator (POSE). 63. What is PRC ? Palm Resource Code (PRC) is the file format for Palm OS applications. 64. What is preverification ? Due to memory and processing power available on a device, the verification process of classes are split into two processes. The first process is the preverification which is off-device and done using the preverify tool. The second process is verification which is done on-device. 65. What is profile ? A profile is a set of APIs added to a configuration to support specific uses of a mobile device. Along with its underlying configuration, a profile defines a complete, and usually self-contained, general-purpose application environment. Profiles often, but not always, define APIs for user interface and persistence; the MIDP profile, based on the CLDC configuration, fits this pattern. Profiles may be supersets or subsets of other profiles; the Personal Basis Profile is a subset of the Personal Profile and a superset of the Foundation Profile. See also configuration, optional package. 66. What is Provisioning ? In telecommunications terms, provisioning means to provide telecommunications services to a user. This includes providing all necessary hardware, software, and wiring or transmission devices. 67. What is PSTN ? The public service telephone network (PSTN) is the traditional, land-line based system for exchanging phone calls. 68. What is RMI ? Remote method invocation (RMI) is a feature of J2SE that enables Java objects running in one virtual machine to invoke methods of Java objects running in another virtual machine, seamlessly. 69. What is RMI OP ? The RMI Optional Package (RMI OP) is a subset of J2SE 1.3's RMI functionality used in CDC-based profiles that incorporate the Foundation Profile, such as the Personal Basis Profile and the Personal Profile. The RMIOP cannot be used with CLDC-based profiles because they lack object serialization and other important features found only in CDC-based profiles. RMIOP supports most of the J2SE RMI functionality, including the Java Remote Method Protocol, marshalled objects, distributed garbage collection, registry-based object lookup, and network class loading, but not HTTP tunneling or the Java 1.1 stub protocol. 70. What is RMI Profile ? The RMI Profile is a J2ME profile specification designed to support Java's Remote Method Invocation (RMI) distributed object system. Devices implementing the RMI Profile will be able to interoperate via RMI with other Java devices, including Java 2, Standard Edition. The RMI Profile is based on the Foundation Profile, which in turn is based on CDC. 71. What is RMS ? The Record Management System (RMS) is a simple record-oriented database that allows a MIDlet to persistently store information and retrieve it later. Different MIDlets can also use the RMS to share data. 72. What is SDK ? A Software Development Kit (SDK) is a set of tools used to develop applications for a particular platform. An SDK typically contains a compiler, linker, and debugger. It may also contain libraries and documentation for APIs. 73. What is SIM ? A Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) is a stripped-down smart card containing information about the identity of a cell-phone subscriber, and subscriber authentication and service information. Because the SIM uniquely identifies the subscriber and is portable among handsets, the user can move it from one kind of phone to another, facilitating international roaming. 74. What is SMS ? Short Message Service (SMS) is a point-to-point service similar to paging for sending text messages of up to 160 characters to mobile phones. 75. What is SOAP ? The Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) is an XML- based protocol that allows objects of any type to communicated in a distributed environment. SOAP is used in developing Web Services. 76. What is SSL ? Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a socket protocol that encrypts data sent over the network and provides authentication for the socket endpoints. 77. What is T9 ? T9 is a text input method for mobile phones and other small devices. It replaces the "multi-tap" input method by guessing the word that you are trying to enter. T9 may be embedded in a device by the manufacturer. Note that even if the device supports T9, the Java implementation may or may not use it. Check your documentation for details. 78. What is TDMA ? Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) is a second-generation modulation standard using bandwidth allocated in the 800 MHz, 900 MHz, and 1900MHz ranges. 79. What is Telematics ? Telematics is a location-based service that routes event notification and control data over wireless networks to and from mobile devices installed in automobiles. Telematics makes use of GPS technology to track vehicle latitude and longitude, and displays maps in LED consoles mounted in dashboards. It connects to remote processing centers that turn provide server-side Internet and voice services, as well as access to database resources. 80. What is Tomcat ? Tomcat is a reference implementation of the Java servlet and JavaServer Pages (JSP) specifications. It is intended as a platform for developing and testing servlets. 81. What is UDDI ? Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI) is an XML-based standard for describing, publishing, and finding Web services. UDDI is a specification for a distributed registry of Web services. 82. What is UMTS ? Developed by Nortel Networks, Universal Mobile Telecommunications Service (UMTS) is a standard that will provide cellular users a consistent set of technologies no matter where they are located worldwide. UMTS utilizes W-CDMA technology. 83. What is VLR ? The Visitor Location Register (VLR) is a database that contains temporary information about subscribers. 84. What is WAE ? The Wireless Application Environment (WAE) provides a application framework for small devices. WAE leverages other technologies such as WAP, WTP, and WSP. 85. What is WAP ? Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) is a protocol for transmitting data between servers and clients (usually small wireless devices like mobile phones). WAP is analogous to HTTP in the World Wide Web. Many mobile phones include WAP browser software to allow users access to Internet WAP sites. 86. What is WAP Gateway ? A WAP Gateway acts as a bridge allowing WAP devices to communicate with other networks (namely the Internet). 87. What is W-CDMA ? Wideband Code-Division Multiple Access (W-CDMA), also known as IMT-2000, is a 3rd generation wireless technology. Supports speeds up to 384Kbps on a wide-area network, or 2Mbps locally. 88. What is WDP ? Wireless Datagram Protocol (WDP) works as the transport layer of WAP. WDP processes datagrams from upper layers to formats required by different physical datapaths, bearers, that may be for example GSM SMS or CDMA Packet Data. WDP is adapted to the bearers available in the device so upper layers don't need to care about the physical level. 88. What is WMA ? The Wireless Messaging API (WMA) is a set of classes for sending and receiving Short Message Service messages. See also SMS. 89. What is WML ? The Wireless Markup Language (WML) is a simple language used to create applications for small wireless devices like mobile phones. WML is analogous to HTML in the World Wide Web. 90. What is WMLScript ? WMLScript is a subset of the JavaScript scripting language designed as part of the WAP standard to provide a convenient mechanism to access mobile phone's peripheral functions. 91. What is WSP ? Wireless Session Protocol (WSP) implements session services of WAP. Sessions can be connection-oriented and connectionless and they may be suspended and resumed at will. 92. What is WTLS ? Wireless Transport Layer Security protocal (WTLS) does all cryptography oriented features of WAP. WTLS handles encryption/decryption, user authentication and data integrity. WTLS is based on the fixed network Transport Layer Security protocal (TLS), formerly known as Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). 93. What is AMPS ? Advanced Mobile Phone Service (AMPS) is a first-generation analog, circuit-switched cellular phone network. Originally operating in the 800 MHz band, service was later expanded to include transmissions in the 1900 MHz band, the VHF range in which most wireless carriers operate. Because AMPS uses analog signals, it cannot transmit digital signals and cannot transport data packets without assistance from newer technologies such as TDMA and CDMA. Można też będzie spotkać Hannę Pustułę-Lewicką, która przetłumaczyła „Ulicę Wiecznej Szczęśliwości” Roba Schmitza i Katarzynę Tubylewicz, tłumaczkę „Strzałów w Kopenhadze” Niklasa Orreniusa. To wyjątkowa edycja Dnia Reportażu, związana z podwójnym jubileuszem - zarówno Targi, jak i Nagroda obchodzą w tym roku 10 urodziny. Właśnie z tej okazji zaproszono gości specjalnych -  dwukrotną laureatkę Nagrody Swietłanę Aleksijewicz (w 2011 i 2015 r.) i laureata pierwszej edycji Jeana Hatzfelda.

Akcje czytelnicze
