A thought has occurred and it refuses to leave me.
In stories set in a world with a secret magical societies that live amongst the world unaware. (jjk, HP <ew but a well known example, the magicians) what happens to the “normal” people in the character’s lives when they die?
And I don’t necessarily mean they’ve been keeping it a secret from people close to them, I mean what about that one barista that worked at the cafe they always got coffee from. The crossing guard they waited at the light with as they got to a school zone. The one corner store clerk that’s so used to their face they stared giving them a discount because they refuse to sign up for a membership card, but no chocolate bar should be more than $2 with tax.
Cause these are the sorts of connections that can easily be broken by a change in routine, but like if you said something happened to the barista at the BN cafe I used to hang out at after work I’d be genuinely worried. And from the shocked gasp she made the first time she saw me use a cane, I’d think she’d be at least a bit worried about me to.
Cause on the one hand, you wouldn’t say that these people are “close” they just exist in a similar time and space so often that they’ve become familiar, but also these are people who could know something weirdly specific about you too.
Idk man, just… idk
#wurds#I think part of what caused this is how jjk ended#Gojo’s dead. and people don’t like that#but it was an understandable conclusion to his arch#but also I’ve seen posts not liking the fact there was no mention of a memorial or funeral#and like I get it. a conflict he had was with how the society of sorcerers treated sorcerers as disposable#but I feel like him getting a proper memorial at least would be a good top off to his story#he changed the world for the better and while he didn’t get to see it he’ll still be recognized for it#WTF does this bother me so much I haven’t even read/watched jjk#jjk gojo#gojo satoru#jjk#jujutsu gojo#jujutsu kaisen
