Everything but 4x03 was about Will. They have a compilation on Netflix's YouTube up from season 4 and even THAT has an entire section dedicated to Will.

Airport kiss? Awkward hug with Will.

Roller rink? Will correcting El for lying and overall "moping and rolling his eyes" (he even stole the scene for Mike)

Arguably, it's even influential that their fight takes place as a result of Mike leaving WILL at the breakfast table, and it's SHOT TO REFLECT THAT.

Reunion? Will reunites with El too, standing between their reunion in the camera even. (And Mike looks at him weird while he gets up)

Pizza scene? *Almost* but actually let's cut to what Will's doing: oh, he's watching them sadly.

"I love you"? Will urges Mike on and it cuts to a shot of him being sad as Mike says that admitting your feelings hurts.

MikeWill are Soulmates - Complete Theory

no, like ... like actually.

so i have been noticing a lot of similarities between carl jung theory and the themes of the show. one of the first ones i noticed was the way the concept of a soulmate is described by carl jung vs how byler has been written.

the duffers seem to be doing it in a way that falls in line with the rest of their themes - where a relationship grew into love over time as opposed to a rushed "love at first sight" storyline. they became soulmates because they chose each other. i don't think the term 'soulmate' will be literally stated in the show but it will likely be represented in some other way related to trust.

to add to this belief, here is some more evidence:

in s2, nancy mentioned vonnegut. (i have more thoughts on this specific sequence, but for the sake of this theory we will just focus on vonnegut.)

this means the duffers are drawing at least some inspiration behind the author. now i wanted to point this out because ever since the concept of a psychic link was brought up in-show, i've been heavily suspecting byler is extremely fairytale-coded. which also means a lot of metaphysical concepts from fairytales apply to them as well. and the concept of a soulmate is one of them.

i recently read about the concept of a karass from vonnegut's novel Cat's Cradle.

the party in general fits this concept, however there is also another concept known as a duprass. a duprass is a special kind of karass that exists between only two people.

atp in the story this concept could apply to multiple couples, BUT ... the way my jaw dropped after i not only discovered that inception is in the inspiration board (which i will discuss in another analysis because that one is the 'inverse' of this. that is, UD byler and what i believe is what vecna's ultimate plan for byler is) but i also realized that What Dreams May Come is here too.

now i want to draw your attention to how this movie treats the concept of soulmates. specifically because there's a PAINTING involved ... annie and chris are a happy couple. chris is a doctor, and annie is a painter. she painted an idyllic scenery for the two of them - a place where they would grow old and live out the rest of their days. when chris dies, he goes to his version of 'heaven', which is basically a shared creation of their soulmate bond.

the parallels are ... pretty clear. up to this point we could argue that this concept might be used for another couple in the show, or not at all if you don't Believe, but considering that these narrative elements have already been established for byler ...

watch the painting be a 'life line back to reality' to one or even both of them because insert inception theory here + 'crazy together'. i am normal i am so normal about the implications and what this could all mean what if this is what the duffers meant when they told finn that byler will "pay off" oh my lord.
