Heath does not know Lloyd Reed as a person, but he is a colleague and a friend of a friend. That's simplifying things dramatically and leaving out the "former enemy" designation, but it does not mean the man is exempt from Heath's duty of birthday compensation.

Books on wyvern care are few and far between in Fodlan, Heath has found. Just like in Elibe, there's just one place they live in the wild, but Garreg Mach has the financial and political means to import them at least. Still, he finds what resources are available outside of the library rather lacking.

Thus, Lloyd will find himself with a handwritten series of notes on wyvern care, not terribly detailed, but from a practiced hand. Next to them, there's a nicely-wrapped package of "wyvern nip," with a note to use it sparingly. It should be obvious who it came from, but it just feels...weird, to give it in person. So it's left alongside the other gifts from his fellow knights, a miniature sea of appreciation for the White Wolf.

Heath wonders, what situations have some of his other knights come from? How many of them are also fugitives? If he thinks too long about it, similarities between him and Lloyd are hard to ignore.

(Maybe that's why Legault...nevermind.)

Strange as it is to think, Lloyd has been with the knights of Seiros long enough now that he's made a few comrades within their ranks -- dare he say it, even friends. He's still not the most social man out there -- never will be -- but he's warmed up enough by this point to have made some connections to those he works alongside.

He'd been admittedly hesitant to do so when he first came here, the loss of what he'd had before in the Black Fang looming heavy in his mind.

But, fighting and living alongside people, it was inevitable that bonds would form. He'd been here roughly two years now, and though he would never fully recover from what had happened in Elibe, he was in a much better place to allow himself the simple need of human connection.

So it was less of a surprise to him when some of his fellow knights offered him little gifts or acknowledgement of his birthday. Most were utilitarian, others offers to get a meal or a drink together, but one stood out: a handwritten bundle of notes, and a package of dried herbs that are purported to be wyvern nip. Lloyd shakes his head a little in amusement at the warning, flipping through and skimming the notes that have been gifted to him on wyvern care and training.

"Hm, interesting fellow...," he murmurs to himself, "Suppose I should thank him, if he doesn't avoid me on sight, that is."

I've been seeing a lot of crusty little dog positivity lately and I respect it. More people should get them, they're really the only genre of dog genuinely bred for companionship. But let's be real; they are hideous. I'm so sorry but shih-tzus look like a rug someone left bunched up soaking wet in a corner to grow mildew, but with bulging goopy eyeballs and a brachycephalic wheeze. I don't mean when they're elderly, they look wretched as soon as they leave puppyhood. Great personality, they're good little dogs and all, but it can't be denied that they're ugly as sin.

edit: "Only companion breeds" is hyperbole. You don't need to list every companion-bred dog to me. Peace and love.
