Only Murders in the Building 3:5
Sazz! I told you not to date Jan! I don’t care if you think Danger is sexy!
And Charles Hayden Savage you better get Joy back! You better be crawling on your hands and knees Buster!
Okay now that THATS out of the way…Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote “When you have eliminated all which is impossible then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."
That’s how I think the writers are going about this show. They show you all the obvious suspects and eliminate them one by one until we get the improbable truth. So here’s a rough timeline of events I think happened based on what we know.
Ben knows he has a stalker
He thinks it Loretta because of her scrapbook but she’s actually Dickie’s biological mother and Dickie is in the background of all those pictures hence why she complimented Dickie.
But when Ben confronts Loretta the night of the play, she lets it slip that Dickie is her son. Ben gets rough with her, Charles punches Ben
Ben panics because of his face and Howard calls in Joy to cover it with makeup, which Kimber witnesses in the hall
Tobert’s camera records Ben talking with a plate of cookies because of his issues with food, and he uses joys misplaced lipstick to write on the mirror.
Ben faked his death by getting some kinda drugs from Dr. C to promote the show
Now here’s where the theories split Arconiacs.
Theory 1: Dickie killed his brother when they get into an argument about Dickie wanting to stop being Ben’s manager so he can help Loretta with her career. It’s possible since he was feeling guilty about something related to Ben. But it seems too obvious.
Theory 2: the Nobody killed him theory. It would be a nice twist. And it’s possible after fighting with his brother upstairs that Ben, still woozy from the drugs Dr. C gave him, accidentally fell down the elevator shaft.
Theory 3: this one is the reach here. My theory is the producer Cliff was trying to make money off a flop but Ben’s publicity stunt got too many people interested in the play. Maybe it started as Donna’s scheme but Cliff killed Ben to protect her. Either way after Ben’s fight with Dickie, Cliff confronts Ben and pushes him down the elevator shaft. My only evidence thus far is a bad play with a miscast leading man, and a director with a reputation of producing a legendary flop (sorry Oliver, at least you got lucky!)
Time will tell Arconiacs.
