Honestly I wish we got to see the Loonatics as just. Civilians more. We get glimpses here and there of their lives outside the superhero biz but there's still a lot left to be desired, you know? Rev's family got screentime in the 'meet the family' episode and we learned Duck was an orphan in the episode with Pinkster. And then there's the flashbacks to when the Loonatics first got their powers and the brief out-of-costume parts from Cape Duck.
We get to know them as superheroes and that's really it. They're always suited up whenever they interact with civilians, with authority figures, with the villian of the week. Even in episodes they use disguises it's primarily as superheroes. Apocalypso was a classic drag situation (which I wish there was more of) but that's the only instance I can count where they use their civilian identity to fool the baddies.
How old are they? Do some of them go to school? We know Tech was enrolled at university before the meteor struck. Is it double lives or is the Loonatics team a full time gig? Do they have friends as civilians? If this is their whole life now, what did they sacrifice for it? How open about their super identities are they?
URGH, I just wish we saw more of the human side!
#loonatics unleashed#if this makes sense. I always thought they were teenagers like 16. 17. but now I'm curious if they have canon ages#it's just fascinating how little we actually know about the loonatics themselves#we got to see a more anxious loyalty side of rev and a devoted compassionate duck. and it helped flesh them out!#I just think it'd be neat if we got that change in character for the rest of the members. to really set them apart from just. action hero

So on Sunday @corvusatrox and I went to Prospect Park for birding purposes, but before we really started with that we came across this Pinkster celebration at the historic Lefferts House, which was essentially a plantation farm back in the late 18th and early 19th Centuries before slavery was abolished in New York State in 1827.
(They do tours of the inside, which I did once as a kid, but that wasn't happening today)
Pinkster, which I only learned about through the celebration, has its named derived from the Dutch word for Pentecost, and was a holiday in which slaves could move freely within a 50 mile radius, allowing them to try reconnecting with the relatives they'd lost through slavery.
(As I learned afterwards, the main reason you've probably never heard of it was that the white powers that be moved to prevent its observance in the late 19th Century because they feared revolt, and this state of affairs would last until the 1970s)
I've got a bit of a personal history with the wood-fired oven in the back, during one of my high school classes we baked cornbread within it one winter day.
Eventually we decided to head out, which is when I noticed that the benches by the entrance nearby had been painted in Pan-African colors.

Life has me in a chokehold at the moment but I gotta share another idea for a storyline that has again been in my head for many, many years now.
It’s another time based episode involving Dr Fidel Chroniker (from Time After Time) where someone or something interferes with the timeline and makes it unstable. So it’s a literal race against time (hah) for the Loonatics to fix it before all of time collapses.
There’s cool visuals as time begins to collapse and things pop in and out of existence, some things start moving backwards, and the Loonatics are running through Acmetropolis but the layout of the city keeps changing: Duck is back at the orphanage and seeing a young Pinkster, Ace runs through a building and opens a door to see his best friend Benji who died in the meteor, Slam goes through a wall and looks up to see himself back in the wrestling ring, stuff like that.
But finally!! They manage to come together and Ace uses the GSS to channel the energy from Tech and Dr Fidel Chroniker’s theory to ‘stitch’ time back together.
And for a second, just a second, everything goes back to normal. They look around, relieved and joyous and almost not believing their luck.
Then Ace begins to fade away.
Everyone starts screaming.
Tech yells at everyone to gather in a circle and tries to reverse engineer what Ace did with the GSS, there’s a flash, it looks and feels as if the universe was going to tear itself apart once more, but Tech throws a shield around them to contain it before it envelops more than the team.
And there’s a flash, a sound of millions of timelines crashing against each other, and all the Tics disappear, swallowed and scattered across the timeline.
This part of the story now heavily centers Rev and Duck whose powers are more partial towards time (will I elaborate on this?? maybe one day lmao) who got caught in a time period together and now have to work towards finding the others.
It’s a very ‘In every timeline, every version of reality, we will find each other’ storyline moving forwards.
#loonatics unleashed#don't know if this is coherent but oh well it's my blog I get to be unhinged on main#headcanons#episode ideas

Okay so I was looking at the Loonatics Unleashed fandom wiki for no particular reason I swear and I have come across some mildly interesting discoveries about the content of said wiki. I guess this is like... kind of a weird partial wiki review? Is that strange? Under the cut, some spoilers, yadda yadda yadda.
1. Something I couldn’t stop thinking about after watching the show was the fact that Ace and Lexi have like... no interesting personality. Since the wiki was right there I figured, “Hey, there’s usually a personality section on their character pages, maybe I just didn’t notice something.” So I looked at Ace’s page.
His personality section is tiny. And what is there is stuff like, “he may have a sweet tooth,” and he’s, “cool, calm, and collected,” three words which basically mean the same thing.
Next I checked Lexi’s page... which... hilariously... did not even have a personality section. But don’t worry guys! She’s got a section unique to her called, “fashion sense,” which goes into great detail about her not wanting to look fat.
Curious, I checked the other characters pages as well.
Slam, unlike Lexi, has a personality section, which is incredible, considering he’s on screen for a fraction of the time she is. But Lexi is not alone in having no personality(according to the wiki) as Rev apparently doesn’t have one either. Like, come on. Nobody editing the wiki could think of one trait that he has? Even Slam got a line about having great battle strategy. Nothing about being enthusiastic or fiddling with Tech’s things or desiring his dad’s approval? Uh, okay then. Speaking of Tech... he got one line about being warm hearted and protective of his inventions... Yep. That’s... definitely all his traits... Totally... Ugh...
Duck has a fully fleshed out personality section, which, makes sense since he has a very well defined personality and most interesting interactions with the rest of the cast. There are still problems with it though, like talking about his powers in the wrong section and another thing I’ll go over later.
2. Also along the lines of the “Ace is bland” thought I had, his Powers and Abilities section is pathetically short. I mean, he has four tiny bullet points: One is about having great agility which isn’t needed because another point is that he’s skilled at martial arts which requires great agility. There’s his laser vision, and then apparently he has infrared vision? I mean, I’ll believe the wiki this time but I straight up do not remember that. It must have been one of those things that wasn’t brought up much. (Also it didn’t mention his swordsmanship which is strange.)
Most of the other characters’ sections of their abilities are pretty standard, but I have to note that Rev’s section is MASSIVE. One of his listed “abilities” is literally the ability to talk which uh... is strange. It’s noted that he talks fast, but that just seems to be a common trait of roadrunners as far as I can tell. Rip was the strange one for talking at a slower pace. Either way... I guess the ability to speak is an ability. Strange to put it side-by-side next to things like “super speed” and “flight” though...
3. There is straight up incorrect information and strange assumptions in a few places. A lot of those things come from Rev’s page and specifically his Trivia section.
Small complaint first, the page mentions the sound the original Roadrunner makes a couple of times and spells it as “meep, meep,” which the actual sound is “beep, beep,” an imitation of a car horn. Pedantic, I know.
Okay first true complaint, the wiki assumes Rev’s the youngest solely based on the fact that he’s hyper. Uh... he could also be hyper because, and stay with me here, his power is super speed... and also some people are just hyper? IDK. I have to mention he seems like someone that would’ve gone to college given his family’s wealth and history with being engineers, along with his own technical knowledge, making him similar in age to Tech and Lexi. But odds are all members of the team are college aged and none of them are notably older or younger than the others. (Wait the Trivia page mentioned him being hyper but he still didn’t get a personality section with “hyper” in it???)
Another incorrect “fact” in the trivia section is that Rev’s the only character whose family is shown in the show. It was brief, but we saw Duck’s parents in the flashback of him and Pinkster in the orphanage. Yeah they’re just some boring humans but they’re still his parents.
I guess this counts as a complaint? Uh, maybe I’m missing something, but the wiki claims Duck has sibling relationships with both Ace and Lexi, which... like... I swear I don’t recall from actually watching the show. I do recall him calling Lexi “sister” at least once, but like, in a sassy friend sort of way? And I just... straight up don’t recall him and Ace having any interactions that would denote them as being brother like. Is this just someone deciding that being Good Friends that learn from each other constitutes a sibling relationship again? I’ve seen it happen before. (Don’t ask, it’s stupid.)
Lastly, whoever wrote Lexi’s page seems desperate to ship her with Ace, but like, as professionally as possible. The section on her relationship to Ace is like “their relation is unclear, but she could possibly LooOOoove him~” Then it goes on to scrape for every time she showed concern for him, but also says she keeps her emotions hidden? Guys there’s a word for when someone is in a mutually caring relationship that isn’t a romance. It’s called being friends. Best Friends if it’s a little deeper than normal. Shhh. It’s okay. I know a man and a woman being friends is scary but it can happen. Everything will be fine.
4. As I’ve ironically noted a few times already, there are a bunch of redundant pieces of information on some of their pages. Most of the time I think it’s just due to padding. Like, Lexi has 4 bits of trivia and one is, “she likes video games,” and another is, “she’s good at video games.” You uh... couldn’t just make those both one point, huh? I’m not gonna count information being repeated through sections because sometimes context is important.
-
Yeah so reading the wiki was... something. I mean I don’t blame the wiki of a 2005 Looney Tunes spin off for not being the most well loved and complete, and I’m sure it’s probably been vandalized a few times for lols, but I just thought this stuff was worth noting nonetheless. Mostly it means I can’t entirely trust the wiki when it comes to information regarding the show.
#Loonatics Unleashed#Random Thoughts#Complaining#I think the P&F wiki spoiled me. It comes with full episode transcripts and references.

Waid
...Waid walks inside, yawning and not even trying to cover his mouth.
“Good morning - Ah. Not so good, then”, Hara says from her desk, grinning. She motions at the coffee machine in the corner, and Waid stumbles there without a word. “Haven’t seen you in days. And you look like you tried to bust the Barrier open with your head. And failed. Repeatedly.”
“Har har har”, Waid hoots back weakly. The machine hums behind him, brewing some brown deliciousness. “Maya got sick. A bug or something. Couldn’t leave her bed, you know how it is.” He rubs his forehead, ruffling the short feathers there. “Didn’t sleep much, either. So. A long week.”
“I bet.” Hara smiles at him sympathetically before turning back to the papers. “The lil’ things there got all sulky while you weren’t here. I had to promise them three times that you are not dead and haven’t left for good.”
“They made you look after them?”
“M-hm. Nah, they were fine. It was easy. Get in, get them some food and homework, get out, rinse, repeat.” She shrugs. “I see why you like your job that much, ha ha. Well. Anyway, are you good there?”
Waid downs a cup in one long gulp. “Yeah. Good as new!”
“You wish”, Hara says. “You’ve got brown all over your beak and your eyebags are about as big as sleeping bags.”
“Good as a very well-kept second-hand, then.”
“That’ll do.”
***
“Well, look whatcha got here!” Waid calls out cheerfully when the doors slide open before him.
He is immediately studied by two pairs of eyes, wide and attentive. The subjects are there, in the middle of the room, surrounded by papers and pens. S is lying on his stomach, P is sitting cross-legged. Their faces are calm, as always.
They really are easy to look after.
“OH. HELLO, WAID.” P waves at him and tilts his head to a side. “HAVE YOU BROUGHT BOOKS?”
Oh yes, he did. Waid sighs, drops his useless smile and puts his bag down. He brought all sorts of books: astronomy, physics, history, school books on every subject imaginable, volumes and volumes of works that are too vague and obfuscating for most children - but the subjects are not children, despite their size. They reach out immediately, grabbing the books like they are Gyftmas presents.
Waid sighs again and thinks that, if he was given something they read on a daily basis when he was in his college years, he would probably give up ten pages in. They don’t. Their minds soak up the knowledge as sponges, and they always want more. They have their preferances, of course. But in the end it does not matter much to them what they get if it is something new.
“OH. THIS ONE IS ILLUSTRATED.” P traces a constellation with his finger on a book page. Then he looks up at Waid. “I DID WELL ON A TEST TODAY.”
“I’m not surprised!” Waid says, attempting a smile again. “You are a smart little thing, after all.”
P stares at him for a couple of moments more, then returns his attention to the book. S doesn’t even acknowledge Waid much.
The bird monster looks away, flinching. The subjects... they look small. Like children. Yet they are not. He must stay level-headed, he reminds himself, he cannot grow too attached - because in the end, they are not really monsters, even. Just... two little AIs. Always calm and collected, always reading or writing something, always polite and quiet and causing as little trouble as possible. Kids are never like that. Waid brought them crayons one day, and they wrote equations with them - pages of colorful numbers and letters. They did not even attempt to draw.
They probably don’t even feel much. It is... strangely comforting.
“WHAT’S THAT?”
Waid jerks, looking up, and meets P’s eyes. He is pointing to something at the bottom of Waid’s bag. He looks inside. Oh. It is one of Maya’s stuffed animals: a pink winged hippo with a dopey smile and two small black eyes. He probably put it there while packing up in the morning on autopilot.
“Oh. Well. Um”, Waid says. S watches him as well, now, raising his eyebrows at the pink hippo. “I brought it here by mistake. I did not really mean to.”
“but still, what is that?” S asks, and Waid is momentarily puzzled. S rarely talks to him at all - does not even look at him much.
“Well... it’s a toy.”
“WHAT DOES IT DO?” P asks, pulling the hippo’s leg.
Waid shrugs. “Be a toy?” He gets two questioning stares and relents. “I mean... it does not do much. You cannot take it apart or do something useful with it. It just... is.”
“OH.” P frowns, looking the hippo over. Waid wonders why he didn’t lose interest yet. The hippo is not a clock for him to reassemble, not a book to keep his mind busy. It is a child’s toy. What business does he have with a child’s toy? “WHAT IS IT FOR, THEN?”
“Playing”, Waid says. He taps on the floor nervously. How do you explain something like that? “You can... imagine things about it. Imagine it’s alive. Imahgine what sorts of encounters it gets into...” P stares blankly. Waid shakes his head. “Nevermind. Give it back here. I did not expect you to understand, anyway.”
He reaches out for the toy, but P suddenly leans back, pressing the hippo to his chest. His eyes are confused. He considers the toy for a moment or two.
“...PLAYING...” He rearranges the hippo so he is holding it carefully, like a baby, and then pets it on its head hesitantly. "HE IS SOFT. DOES HE HAVE A NAME?”
Waid does not understand for a second that P is talking about the toy, and he is talking about it as a person. “...Um. You can... name it whatever you like?”
“HIM”, P corrects. He pets the hippo again, and his face becomes... softer. “I WANT TO NAME HIM... PINKSTER. MAY I?”
“What?.. Oh. Yes. I mean, yes, you may...”
“HELLO, PINKSTER”, P says to the toy, and his voice is softer too - quieter. And he suddenly looks very much like a real kid to Waid. “IT IS VERY NICE TO MEET YOU.” He pauses. “HE DOESN’T ANSWER.”
“Well - it is a toy, it is not -”
“HE”, P presses. “AND HE JUST DOES NOT LIKE TO TALK MUCH. BUT IT IS FINE. HE HAS OTHER REDEEMING QUALITIES. DO YOU, PINKSTER?”
S snickers, and Waid turns to him in numb disbelief. The subject’s permanent grin is stretched just a bit, his eyes a little rounder. “i bet he does. hi, pinkie.”
“STOP THIS”, P hisses, cuddling the toy closer to him. “HIS NAME IS PINKSTER AND YOU KNOW THAT. DON’T TALK DOWN TO HIM, HE DOES NOT LIKE THAT! HE IS SAD NOW BECAUSE YOU DID NOT TREAT HIM RESPECTFULLY!”
“whoops. sorry”, S says, and he actually looks a little... guilty? Waid does not even attempt to do anything at this point. The boy stands up, abandoning his books, and moves closer to P to gently ruffle the hippo’s pink fur. “sorry, pinkster. i didn’t mean to hurt you.”
“THAT’S BETTER. HE FORGIVES YOU!” The hippo, steered by P’s fingers, ‘hugs’ S with its front paws. “SEE? HE IS OKAY NOW.”
“i’m glad. he is a good... well. whatever he is”, S says, sitting back. He looks genuinely interested. “what can he do?”
“LOTS”, P says. “HE IS VERY SMART AND STRONG, AND HE GETS PERFECT SCORES ON ALL TESTS, AND... AND HE EVEN GOT TO SEE THE OUTSIDE ONCE BECAUSE HE BEHAVED REALLY WELL.”
“really?” Waid chokes. S sounds mesmerized. “tell me more!”
And P - P hugs the pink toy hippo to his chest, beaming. He is not supposed to be like this, Waid tells himself. He is not supposed to be interested in toys and crayons...
“OKAY! SO, BECAUSE HE IS SO CLEVER, HE IS EVEN MORE CLEVER THAN DOCTOR”, P says. “AND DOCTOR IS VERY ENVIOUS OF HIM.”
“yeah!” S jumps up and suddenly hunches over, face set in an exagerrated frown. “huff puff, i am doctor gaster, i don’t have time for this nonsense, where is my coffee, and pinkster, i never thought you’d be such a sissy.”
He is... playing pretend, Waid realises. Cold sweat is drenching his feathers. It isn’t hot in there. Not at all.
“YEAH! BUT PINKSTER WAS ALL LIKE, NO! YOU ARE NOT GOING TO CALL ME NAMES ANYMORE! BECAUSE I AM MUCH MORE CLEVER AND STRONG THAN YOU!” P waves the hippo’s paw at S, and the smaller boy gasps dramatically. “IN FACT! I WAS SO WELL-BEHAVED AND DID ALL MY HOMEWORK AND WAS SUCH A GOOD BOY THAT THEY DECIDED TO LET ME OUT! AND YOU ARE GOING INTO THE TIMEOUT ROOM FOREVER BECAUSE YOU WERE SO MEAN TO ME!”
“no-o-o, not the timeout room!” S cries out, falling to his knees. He copies Gaster’s gestures and poses expertly, like he has done that a hundred times already. “aaaaaaaah...”
“AND HE WENT TO THE TIMEOUT ROOM, AND PINKSTER GOT OUT AND LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER.” P stares at the toy in his hands. “...BUT THEN HE RETURNED BECAUSE HE DECIDED TO KEEP US COMPANY. RIGHT, WAID?”
Waid suddenly understands that the boys are staring at him now.
“W...what?” he manages to quack.
“...CAN WE KEEP HIM?” P asks, and his voice is... careful. Collected once again. “I PROMISE WE WILL TAKE GOOD CARE OF HIM. AND WE WILL BEHAVE EVEN BETTER. YOU CAN TAKE SOME BOOKS AWAY IN EXCHANGE, IF YOU WANT TO.”
Waid’s voice is somewhere else. It does not sound like him. Robotic. Unemotional. Cold and calm, when he feels anything but.
“No. It’s... mine.” He grabs the toy and the empty bag and rushes to his feet, dizzy. “I’ve... I have to go. I am busy. I have no time.”
The children - ...no, the subjects, the subjects - reach after him, eyes glued to the little lump of pink fabric in his hands, and they look as if he is taking away their greatest treasure. Maybe he is.
Waid stomps out of their cell and doesn’t look back even as a quiet “...GOODBYE, WAID. GOODBYE, PINKSTER” hits him in the back.
***
“Oh, you have Softy”, Maya says in a sleepy voice. She cuddles to the pink hippo, washed three times with bleacher so his fur is now slightly bleaker. “I missed him. Did you have fun with him?”
Waid nods to her, leaves the room, waves his worried husband off and heads outside.
He drinks himself senseless that night.

The show was pretty lame, but it did have potential. Especially the characters. What are five things you liked about the show and five things you didn't like.
I kind of already said what i like so ill say what i didn’t like
1. The lack of development in the main cast. We started to see a smidgen of this in season 2, and maybe if the show hadn’t been canceled we would have gotten more, but it just, they never changed. They never grew, they all just stayed the same.
2. The weird tonal shift from season 1 to season 2. Like, season 1 was way darker/more serious, with more dark and original villains, while season 2 was way lighter with the looney tunes based villains. I think it would have been better to either do it the other way around, or to mix it up a bit, cause going from serious to light is so weird.
3. This one kinda is part of the first 1, but it also just needs it’s own little mention but, Duck. Just, having an egotistical, selfish, comic relief character like Duck is all well and good, but after a while with no learning or change, the shtick can get old real fast. They really especially needed to develop him more, show us signs of him maturing and growing past his selfishness. Like, we’d get random little moments throughout, but nothing permanent.
4. Lack of world development. Like, what is Acmetropolis? The Loonatics are all confirmed descendants of looney tunes characters, so does that mean that acmetropolis is a future Earth? Or is it another planet? What are the rules that govern this world? How is this futuristic society different from our own? Just, so many questions left unanswered.
5. Another that kind of goes with the one above but, what’s the relation between the animal people and humans, and where are all of the others in Acmetropolis. Like, all of the Loonatics are animal people, and we see that there are some others as well that live on Acmetropolis (Rev’s family & Pinkster) but we never see any in city shots. All we ever see out of the civilians is humans. Are the Loonatics, like, rare animal people?

Well Lexi go watch the lion king with your pals.
Warning for Duck there is a parent death. If you are too sensitive to that stuff ok.
Also Duck how did you feel when Pinkster told you to your face he was using you. I wanna fucking punch him then feed him to Tech..
Tech I hope you like asshole pigs to eat
Lexi: hm, maybe if we have time we could watch it.
Duck: I wanted to fucking punch him in the gut.
[mod: honestly the same. I wanted to kill him..]
Tech: usually I try to eat healthy but, for him I'd make an exception.

I just finished Loonatics myself recently.
Has anyone ever wondered if Duck deep down is bothered by how he's treated? Like yes, he's a dick sometimes and gets what's coming to him, but some of the stuff that happens with him is more sad then funny.
Like Zadavia always ignored him unless it's to scold him a lot, and the episode where he and Tech had a bet anyways bugged me. Duck lost the bet to save Tech and Tech in return bought the cape and boots they betted on for himself without giving thanks for saving him.
Maybe that's why Duck would go after any attention he could get? Because it was the only time he felt validated?
Hi!! I'm so happy people are still watching this show after all this time, what did you think of it?
About Duck, yes I generally agree with everything you said. Zadavia being mean to him most of the time even from the first episode was weird too, and honestly a lot of it I chalk down to questionable writing choices and tone.
But your last paragraph really nails it imho. From what we saw of Duck's past with Pinkster and being in the orphanage it makes sense that he always had to fight for attention and grew up internalising it as a coping mechanism to be 'seen'. @/intheyear2772 and I have been talking about our headcanons and how it would have been interesting narratively if they had explored Duck and Ace's dynamic as opposites and how Duck's views on interpersonal relationships are impacted by his past which I have a lot of ideas I want to write on but will I do it?? Who knows???
